The place was clean and the staff was very nice - but maybe we ordered the wrong food. The appetizers of vegetable and shrimp tempura and gyoza were very good. My wife ordered beef teriyaki and I had chicken teriyaki and it looked and tasted unlike any teriyaki that we have ever had. There were onions in the teriyaki and no teriyaki sauce at all. The beef teriyaki was little cubes and the chicken was very narrow strips. Both dishes had no flavor at all. The miso was cold and no taste. The hot tea was not hot and tasted like tepid tap water. The restaurant was aware that we were not happy with our entrees and removed some of the charges from our bill, but we just wanted some decent teriyaki! read more

We had to flag the server down once for a drink refill and then again a second time to get another menu. We were still hungry when we ordered our second round, but it was so slow coming, we lost our appetites by the time it finally arrived at our table. They tried charging us extra for every piece of sushi we were unable to eat, despite the terrible service. The service was so bad, it felt deliberate. The sushi is no better or worse than any other place in town. What used to set this place apart was the value of the all you can eat. While the outside of the building might seem unassuming and Central Illinois sushi seems like a misnomer, I assure you this is some of the top tier food in a town that loves its food. I ate at this place on 03/14 and I am finally feeling okay today after getting terrible food poisoning. But that is just the tip of the iceberg, I came with my girlfriend and we both did the "All you can eat" and while she didn't have any complaints about the rolls she got, mine tasted awful but I didn't want to pay extra for it so I finished it and got terrible food poisoning. The waitress never came back to ask us if we wanted more food even when our plates were completely empty, and we were the only ones in the restaurant. My friends and I (we are big fans of sushi) decided to check out Kochi for lunch. We heard good things, and we were definitely not disappointed. The restaurant itself is pretty simple. Basically a bar for the employees to make meals, and then a lot of tables for customers. We were kindly seated, and my friends and I decided what sushi we wanted to eat. Unlike other all you can eat restaurants, Kochi does not have a buffet line. Instead, when you are seated, you are given a piece of paper and pen where you can mark what appetizers/sushi/meals you would like. The waiter/waitress will then collect your piece(s) of paper and put in your order. After about 10-15 minutes, you should have your fresh sushi placed in front of you for your enjoyment. After you finish, you can get another piece of paper to start the process over again. We really enjoyed Kochi, and I would go here again over Kobe. read more

We took advantage of their AYCE grand opening special of 2 for $30 to see how it compares to other local sushi joints like Kobe or Yumz. Selection - appetizer, sushi, and hibachi. There are food for people that want to play it safe or be a bit more adventurous. Soup/salad and appetizer selections were small but good, definitely try their chicken gyoza. Their edamame was cooked perfectly, not mushy. For sushi choices, it ranges from simple vegetable and cooked rolls to raw fish and rolls with more bold taste. They have a lot of fried rolls and rolls with cream cheese in them, I stayed away from those, just personally too Americanized for me. I didn't get a chance to try their hibachi either, from my experience it is something I don't normally see on an AYCE sushi menu. Quality/service - food were fresh and made with care. Our sushi platter were presented beautifully and everything was served in a timely manner, also attentive service. Sushi rice itself was good, made to proper taste and texture. This place is an absolutely disgrace. First experience with this place we came in over 30 mins before they closed and they refused service. Change your hours, before turning away customers. The second visit sealed the deal. All you can eat for $22 per person, however, they never come back to serve you. This place wasn't even busy. And after waiting over an hour for a refill of food, we ordered a lot. We didn't finish maybe a roll worth and they charged us an extra $14. I've never had this happen at any all you can eat restaurant in my life. When we went to get the bill they spoke in mandarin "Don't forget to check their plates." Disrespectful! Terrible service, sub par "sushi" (the rice is overcooked and isn't flavored), and abysmal business practices. There is even a sign in the bathroom "No throwing away food." I've been converted to a non-sushi fan because of all the Mid-West Americanized sushi with astonishing calories and too much going on in one roll. So I'm not impressed by their sushi. But their fish options are satisfactory. You get can squid, octopus, and eel here that other sushi restaurants in town don't have. I'm more a fan of all of their appetizers! Seaweed Salad, Aged Tofu, Fried Dumplings and Crab Ragoons all tasted pretty good. However, like other reviews said, they can improve their service. Being the last table at their restaurant at 8:30 pm on Saturday, we felt obligated to not order the 2nd time, although we were not full. That is because no server was present to be found, and they seemd to be closing the kitchen. We didn't even get a chance to try their dessert. So, i was craving sushi and decided i needed to search around for a new sushi joint ...i came across this Kochi restaurant. I am a huge foodie so i am willing to try everything once and boy i did not regret this. i drove 45 minutes to come to this place and the first impression kinda made me nervous a bit because the design was more like a chinese buffet style. There's a nice sushi bar once you walk in, but other than that everything else is cooked in the back. their menu was similar to sushi gawa (if anyone is in the Peoria area you will know what im saying). The special of the night was 2 people for 35$ all you can eat sushi and whatever else they offered as all you can eat on a piece of menu paper. they had sooooo many options so i was really excited to began my food journey here. i started off with a seaweed salad and then i ordered the udon (shrimp) and also the volcano roll. my friend ordered a couple more things like: crab rangoon, chicken katsu, miso soup, and February roll, along with a thin noodle with steak. the food came out surprisingly very quick, it took maybe 10-15 minutes and everything was at our table. I tried the seaweed salad and i have to say, it was one of the best ones ive ever had. It didn't have the usual (too much seaweed juice) from it, it had a very good flavor. I then tried my udon with shrimp and that was also awesome! the flavor was really subtle at first, but as you continue to eat it, the flavors come pouring out. I then ate the Volcano roll and it was splashed with flavors. You get the fried taste from their tempura and then the sweetness from the eel sauce and a bit of spice and creamy flavor from the spicy mayo along with the cream cheez. i didn't get a WOW factor from the food, but i was not disappointed by it. I then tried the other food from my friends order and it tasted good. The chicken wasn't "gamey" like some places ive tried before, the sweet and sour sauce complemented it well. The miso soup wasn't too salty, thank goodness. The only complaint i have would be service was a bit slow and after my second order they took away the menu and the pencil LOL... pretty funny actually. Pointers: don't order too much fried stuff, it'll fill you up pretty quick and they wont allow you to order more if you didnt finish your last order. Apparently you also only have 2 hours to do the all you can eat, so order things that you know you can finish, and then order more later. I will return here for more of my sushi cravings. I have been going here since they opened great family and great food. Im just extremely frustrated. I order spicy mayo, and Pay for it Every Time. And they don't give it to me. Every. Time. I'm very upset. Weather I eat there or order it to go or delivery. It seems like a small thing but it's really important for my meal. And when its been more times than I can count, that's ridiculous. Patronize this restaurant on Sat 9/18 at 12pm. My daughter & I were given a table quickly enough but unfortunately that was the highlight of our experience. Waiter brought us our soup & salad with no utensils or water. I could see they were busy so I patiently waited another 20mins before calling out the same waiter who was SERVING another table that came AFTER us with water and utensils. I asked for water & utensils and he apologized. Utensils came soon enough, but still no water. Same waiter walked by my table at least twice ignoring the fact we have not even been served with water; by now this is probably 50mins since we have sat down at our table. Just before we finished our meal he apologized and brought us water; approximately 65-70mins after we sat down. This is one of the worst restaurants I've ever ate in. Firstly to all the negative reviewers, they didn't read the fine print about paying for the food you don't finish. Don't order more than you can eat in the $13 all you can eat. Don't be upset when you don't follow directions. Other people complain about things being different from other restaurants. Asian cuisine is not a chain. It's gonna be different. Just because it's different does not mean it's bad. It's just not what you wanted. Food is very good. 9/10. Hibachi fried rice is crazy lit. Volcano roll lives up to its name by being absolutely fire. Can't go wrong with shrimp tempura. Dab on the haters and come here. It's real good. I want to say this place used to be my favorite place for sushi in town.... unfortunately the past 2 times I have been, the service has not been good. The first time I received subpar service I didn't think much of it. However, today I gave it another try! First of all, we ordered miso soup and crab Rangoon for an appetizer, along with sushi. The soup came out in a timely fashion, but the crab Rangoon didn't come out until about 60 seconds before the sushi. I was more upset about the length of time to get crab Rangoon, than the fact they practically arrived with the same sushi. I do have to say the sushi here is amazing and that's why I'm giving it 3 stars. After our sushi came, our server didn't return to our table until I flagged her down while she was walking by. I asked for more water which she kindly brought, but there was no ice in the pitcher. :-( Hopefully service gets better, otherwise back to Yumz read more
