Phenomenal food!…read more We're in Syracuse for a conference, and didn't want to spend a fortune for mediocre food at the conference hotel, so we set out to find a good local spot via Yelp. Su Su Dim Sum came up at the top of the list, so off we went. I ordered a small (pint) of hot and sour soup and lamb with scallions. My wife ordered tangerine beef, and then we ordered red bean paste steamed buns to go for breakfast tomorrow. The soup was thick, full of chunks of tofu, plenty of vegetables, a little less peppery and a little less pungent than we like, but still better than typical Chinese restaurant fare. A bowlful of fried noodles came on the side. A great start! My wife, a veterinarian, suspected that the lamb was actually beef, but that question aside, the lamb dish was delicious, with plenty of meat, chunks of bell pepper, and abundant scallions, in a delicious sauce. The star of the night was the tangerine beef, lightly breaded and perfectly fried, in a savory and slightly sour sauce. A few broccoli florets, a handful of tangerine segments, and a wonderful thick sauce completed the dish perfectly. We packed up the leftovers, collected the steamed buns, and headed back to the hotel. We grabbed some menus to give to fellow conference attendees when they ask where we went out to dinner.

We love dim sum so we looked up the local places that served it & found Su Su. The space is simple & I believe it may have once been a diner at one point in time. The staff tried their best as there were a fair amount of to-go orders & walk-ins. (As I said it was Valentine's Day) We decided to order a few different things. Each one was excellent. The flavors & temperature of each item were fantastic. I really enjoyed the pineapple fried rice. We'll certainly be going back to try a few more things!

I have been craving some really, really good authentic Chinese food for a while now, and while I…read morewas in the area, I immediately checked Yelp to see what people were saying about this spot. The reviews looked promising, so I called ahead and placed my order. They told me it would be ready in about 10 minutes, which was perfect. I ordered wonton soup, orange chicken, and house fried rice (my favorite because you get the mix of chicken, shrimp, and sometimes pork). I completely forgot to take photos when I first got my food, so the pictures I posted are actually from the leftovers I brought to work the next day for lunch -- which also shows they give solid portion sizes, pretty typical and generous for a Chinese restaurant. The staff was very kind, and one thing I really appreciated was that they had utensils and sauces set out for customers to grab themselves. I feel like a lot of restaurants can be a little stingy with sauces or charge for every extra, so it was refreshing to be able to take what I needed without having to ask. For that alone, I'd give them five stars for customer service. As for the food, it was good -- not bad at all -- but I personally wanted a little more flavor and seasoning. I would definitely eat here again, but I'm still on the search for my go-to Chinese spot. If anyone has recommendations for a place with bold flavor and great seasoning, let me know!

Big portions that are reasonably priced and several tables for large groups. It's in a former Chinese grocery and the decor wasn't much of an upgrade. The spice level is milder than most Szechuan restaurants (it probably doesn't help that my Mandarin isn't very good). I had the boiled fish which was very good and the fried beef with cumin which was surprisingly sweet.

The ordering experience was one of the most bizarre and frustrating I've had in recent years. But the food itself was delicious. Since we were driving with young wailing kids in the backseat, we called the restaurant 20 minutes out to place our order. The lady who picked up the phone told me in Chinese that the restaurant was very busy, so I should place the order when I was 10 minutes away, or better yet, when I was at the restaurant. I tried to explain that the whole point of placing the order by phone was to avoid waiting, but she had put a male Chinese-speaking colleague on the phone, who told me to just order at the restaurant because he was too busy to take phone orders. With that, he promptly hung up on me. Ten minutes out, I called again and tried to order eggplant in garlic sauce and fish in chili oil. The same man I had spoken to before had tried to get me to just place the order when I arrived at the restaurant, but I again told him that we were trying to avoid waiting for our food since we had young children (now screaming) in the car. He reluctantly took my order (I was told that my third request--vermicelli with spiced minced pork--was not available). Frustratingly, when we arrived at the restaurant, they had not even started cooking our food, so we had to wait about 15 minutes. The food itself was superb. The eggplant is some of the best I've had. The fish in chili oil was also wonderfully tender, though there was a slightly higher ratio of Napa cabbage to fish than what I've usually experienced for this dish at other restaurants. The interior of the restaurant was modest and cafeteria-like. I can't comment on the service quality for dining in. If it weren't for the rough phone ordering experience, I would be keen on ordering takeout or dining in there again.
