Food portions are big but lacks flavor on protein. I ordered the Kung pao chicken and the chicken didn't taste fresh and the sauce was just salty. The fried rice and egg roll were pretty good but I didn't eat 90% of the meal. Ordered egg drop soup and that was decent. Service was ok. Food came fast though and prices are pretty affordable ($20 for the meal plus a soda and tip). Super casual divey vibes, no one was dining in when we went at dinner, seems like a spot that does a lot of takeout. read more

I love chinese food and this place slaps. Their general tso's chicken is amazing, saucy and crunchy at the same time. I recommend their roast pork friend rice with it. The rice has this.... "smokey" or pan wan frying pan flavor to it; idk you gotta try it. I had their Shrimp Mei Fun (cuz i never had it before), it's really tasty and different, it's made with rice noodles so it feels lighter than Lo Mein. Food was decent and tasted alright. The crab rangoon left a lot to be desired. Instead of crunchy tasty treat, I got soggy, chewy, hard to break a piece off, but still tasty treat. Service was alright, as good as can be for a let me go up to the counter and pay for some to go food. Restaurant looked like something out of rush hour. We ordered from the China cafe. We ordered beef Lo Mein for my immune compromised niece who is on the Onocolgy floor in the hospital. The beef Lo mien had bugs in yes BUGS. I have pictures to prove. So we took the plate of food back to the restaurant with the bug on it. The lady did not seem to care that the food they cooked had bugs in it she actually examined the bug and was playing with its dead corpse. Do not eat thier if you choose to be enjoy the extra protein. I will also be calling the health board. read more

My girlfriend used to live in the area and said the food was good. Maybe in the past but as it is now, I would never go back. We ordered sweet and sour chicken, pad Thai w/ mild spice level, veg fried rice, and crab rangoon. Sweet and sour Chicken was okay, could have been cooked longer as the batter was undercooked (I think they need a hotter fryer) Pad Thai was awful. basically just a hot oil sauce with noodles, a tiny bit of veg, and a side of crushed peanuts. I only ordered mild for my gf as I can usually handle a medium to hot, this was almost unbearable for me and tasted nothing like pad Thai. Veg fried rice was disappointing to say the least, normal amount of from frozen veg but almost no seasoning, incredibly bland. Rangoon was okay, filling was good but very skimpy, and they needed to have more color and be crispier (did I mention they need their fryer up hotter?). This is my go to option for Chinese take-out. Their menu has typical Americanized Chinese food along with some options that I don't see elsewhere. Everything I've gotten from China cafe has been delicious, particularly their wonton soup, pork egg foo young (which is loaded with what seems to be very fresh veg as well), general tso's chicken & lo mein. Best Chinese food in the area! My husband and I have been going here since I was pregnant (it was the first food I could eat during my first trimester) and now it's the only place we order from. The food is always hot and delicious. Our toddler devours the lo mein. My husband always sees the same woman when he picks up our orders and she's so nice and remembers him when he comes in. This place may not be the most authentic Chinese, but it does come at a reaonsable cost, and with huge portions. Albeit oily and really spice infused. I have been coming to China Cafe regularly for a quick bite, for the past 3 years. I have had good and bad experiences, but mostly good. The good: I love the shredded pork with chilli pepper, mongolian beef, kung pao chicken, fish filet with tofu in chilly oil, and the most recent favorite is pork with Asian peppers. Oh my god! The caveat here is that the asian peppers are mind bogglingly spicy. I couldn't eat anymore than one before I looked around for something to calm down my burning tongue. But I loved the natural spice in this dish. Among other things tried and tested are the dimsums (decent), soups (depending on the time of day - great), hunan and szechuan chicken (nice), and many more. They are mostly popular for takeouts and deliveries, but I generally enjoy my conversations with the restaurant hosts. They are really nice people. Bad: if you are going at the end of the day, avoid the soup. I think they make it earlier in the evening, and by night the water kind of condenses into vapor and makes the soup way concentrated. Also, I do not like the general tso's chicken here. I wouldn't advise ordering that either. The environment is not exactly a typical dine-in kind. So if you want a quiet space for dinner, or plan to entertain, then don't try coming here. read more

I apparently like this place much more than everybody else, and I'm typically picky with my Chinese. The first great thing about this place is their fried rice. They have actual fried rice and not the bright yellow kind that's awful that some Chinese places have. The rest of their food is pretty great too for the area. I try something different every time I go and so far have liked everything. My girlfriend isn't big into Chinese food and this is one of the few places she will get it. They also have pretty good Thai ice tea which is rare for a Chinese restaurant. read more

I love their expansive menu! There is something on the menu for everyone. They have oodles of noodle options and a ton of lunch specials that are under $7! Their non-lunch specials are also affordable. I tried the boneless spare ribs for under $6, chicken ho fun noodles (wide flat rice noodle) for under $9, and a Thai iced tea for under $3. They have a $1.25 delivery fee (cheaper than most places in Syracuse) and a $15 minimum purchase requirement for delivery. I am looking forward to trying their scallion pancake and mu shu next time. Other than the Thai tea, they have other Thai cuisine too including pad Thai. Ho fun is one of my favorite noodle types. It is basically the same as chow fun noodles. Both are for sure fun. But ho fun likes to party a little more. The food came 30minutes earlier than their predicted time, which was great! The food came piping hot. The Thai tea was ginormous. I was confused when I saw it because I thought it was soup (it was in a soup container). The Thai tea was much less rich than your average Thai tea at a Thai restaurant (more watery, less half and half). It was less sweet too (which I appreciated). I probably wouldn't get the pork spare ribs against because it was too fatty (I should have already known this). The ho fun was packed to the brim. It was advertised as spicy but wasn't at all (no specks of peppers or red-colored anything in it). The chicken in the ho fun had a tendony/chewy texture. When I first got the delivery, I noticed the man smelled heavily of cigarette smoke. After I took the bag, I realized it wasn't him (or wasn't just him), it was the food bag. After 2 hours, the plastic bag and brown paper bag still smelled of cigarette smoke so I threw it away rather than recycle the bag. There was a sesame seed in my Thai tea. The fortune cookies tasted soapy. read more

I ordered garlic shrimp and it was loaded with vegetables cooked to perfection and so were the shrimp which were large and plentiful! This is the only place my husband and I will order Chinese food from, as it is consistently good and has excellent customer service. There were a few months when we first moved to Syracuse that Friday was dubbed "Chinese Food Friday", we were that addicted to it. However, our waistlines forced us to reconsider the weekly event after a few months. The crab wontons are very tasty and a must whenever we order. We've had a variety of their chicken dishes from spicy (chicken szechuan) to not at all (chicken and broccoli, sweet and sour chicken), and everything we've gotten has been good. I really like that (at least on grubhub) you can sub in lo mein or fried rice for the standard white rice at a very small added cost. I also absolutely love their wonton soup, especially when the cold weather hits. I find their egg rolls to be hit or miss, as sometimes they can be overly greasy. It can be a bit of a wait for delivery, depending on what day/time you order, but that is the same as most places around here that deliver. I've only ordered delivery so can't comment on eating in. All in all, I was happy to discover this place, and we still order from here every month or so. read more

Inside, you'll find a small, clean, brightly lit, and modestly decorated interior. The service is quick and attentive. A waitress/waiter always visits shortly after I choose my table. The same goes for delivery: after placing an order through Eat24 (on Yelp), it arrives at my door post haste. China Cafe is the perfect spot for when you're generally in the mood for Asian food, but aren't set on a particular style. The menu is huge, offering Chinese, Thai, and Japanese selections. And the food is good! In their generously portioned Chinese staples (i.e. Lo Mein, fried rice), China Cafe isn't timid about ingredients. Fresh chunks of broccoli, carrot, and big-baby corn fill the dish. An order of chicken nets you bonafide slices of breast, rather than your typical mystery meat. All dishes are made-to-order, and served hot and fresh. Particularly at their absurdly affordable lunch special prices (we're talking like $6 or $7 here people), I don't know why anyone would settle for less. First time customer. Ordered the small shrimp fried rice and the White meat chicken Pad Thai. Portions were adequate for 2 people. The shrimp rice was good but the chicken Pad Thai Noodle was below average. The chicken was placed on top of the noodles making for a shallow dish of mostly noodles. The noodles were covered in an orange/red sauce of undetermined origin. Had I been here before, I would have insisted on curry noodle and hoped for a better tasting dish. read more

General Tso chicken with prom fried rice- your regular run of the mill combo meal, but the rice was sooooo good. So much better than any other place I've been to. Crab Rangoon- I actually love how they make the Rangoon, making the wantons into a triangle shape instead of the little pouch. Fried Beef Dumplings - so good, like the pot stickers from PF Chang's but sooo much better! If getting decent General Tso for 7.25 including fried rice and an eggroll at 12:30 AM is any indication, this is easily the best Chinese takeout I've found since I've lived here. That said, the General Tso had an absurd amount of sauce on it, like three times as much as necessary, which made it slightly gross. Yeah, slightly gross will get you four stars in Syracuse. My girlfriend ordered the Pad Thai and it was not good, so be warned on that one. Still, anyone dumb enough to order Pad Thai from a delivery Chinese place kind of deserves a meal that tastes like nothing. It didn't taste bad, it was just bland as hell. Not entirely sure about the hours. We ordered from Campusfood, which says they are open until 2:00 on weekends and 1:00 on weeknights. They brought us a menu that says they're open until 10:30 on weekends and 9:00 on weekdays. I assume the hours on Campusfood are correct given that we got food well past midnight. read more

Ordered pork with broccoli, very good but I was waiting for the waitress for 10 minutes for the menu, the place was empty and the cook was sitting reading newspapers, he saw me coming in and said nothing. After a long period, he got up and went back. I was about to leave but the waitress came and asked if I want something. I said 'menu?' This is a small place that most people probably walk past and never realize it is there. Their food is delicious, but is just your general Chinese takeout/delivery. Highly recommend you order takeout or delivery and do not eat there. I ordered through grub hub last night and ordered General Tso's dinner combo. I ordered it medium hot. It had no heat at all and was totally bland. While it wasn't bad tasting it had absolutely no heat or real flavor . I notice that another review made the same comment. After a few bites I just threw out the entire meal. If I order from here again I will use the special instructions section to ask for some bite to the food. Will I tried the general tso's again but ordered it hot. Still was bland but not totally taste less. Just almost taste less. read more

After getting a hair in my mediocre-tasting food from a restaurant in the university area, and EXTREMELY slow delivery from another (they estimated 45 min.-1 hour wait, it took them an hour and a half) I have finally found a good Chinese takeout place in Syracuse! I can't speak for Joe's Szechuan beef of two years ago, but the Szechuan chicken I just got was stellar- it had some good/clearly fresh veggies, was decently seasoned, piping hot, and delivered fast. The dumplings were my real favorite though, I got a dim sum sampler. They were cooked up well, and the soy/vinegar sauce they came with had a little kick to it. I'll be ordering from here again, hopefully the food stays good even at a busy time of day (maybe it was good because I ordered on a Sunday afternoon, I'll have to find out). read more

Visiting from out of town and decided to order from here. My Crab Rangoon was chewy and tasted like it was pure cream cheese. The sauce on the General Tso's chicken lacked flavor and was almost overly sweet. I can't place it but there was an odd smell to it. Perhaps the chicken was fried with seafood or the sauce contained fish sauce? I'm not sure but something was completely off. I do like how the spiciness hits you on the back end but otherwise, this place was defiantly a "miss" in our book. read more
