I usually order from China Cafe in Manlius, but this one opened up and I wanted to try it. I ordered delivery for an order of steamed pork dumplings and roast pork lo mein. The delivery service was good and my food came on time. The problem is the food itself; the dumplings were pretty good but not what I was expecting. I like dumplings with thicker skins, and these dumplings were thin skinned. The worst was the lo mein though; there are extra vegetables in the noodles that ruin the flavor, and the dish itself was very salty. I haven't tried their sesame chicken, but it'll be a while before i order something from here again. read more

I ordered the General Tso's tofu for take-out and I didn't like the tofu they used. It was the soft type instead of the fried tofu which taste way better...and the sauce was kind of watery instead of being thick. Overall, the General Tso was very average. The pork bun was $2 and didn't taste that appetizing. read more

To be honest I've always had bad luck at many Asian restaurants, either the food is not correct or it's very oily. Today I got Crab Ragoons and a small portion of vegetable Lo Mein. I was amazed at how good the ragoons were. Crunch outside and soft inside, none of them were soggy and I got quite a bit of them. The Vegetable Lo Mein was very good as well and the noodles were cooked perfectly and not oily. They also told me it would take 10 mins and it came out in less time. One star for delivering earlier than expected. Another star for large portions. It all goes down hill from there. I ordered General Tso's chicken. It was a huge order of the chicken with steamed broccoli. White rice came on the side. Surprisingly, the white rice wasn't the typical bad quality jasmine rice. It was actually decent. The actual General Tso's was not delicious. I asked for extra garlic, extra spicy. It was neither. The sauce doesn't have that familiar tang to it either. It tasted like sweet and sour sauce mixed with old onion odor/taste, without the garlic and spice. The chicken was over battered and the chicken inside was not moist. Overall, very disappointing. I wouldn't order it again. I also ordered the wanton in chili oil. This was okay. A lot more edible than the General Tso's but that's not saying much. If this was the only place opened, I'd think about coming again. Definitely won't be on the top of my list to return. read more

My experience with China Cafe is fairly limited, but also fairly good. The price-to-portion-size ratio ain't the best, but that's usually the case in high-rent districts like Armory Square. My benchmark for Chinese (the chicken with garlic sauce) has always been good here, thanx to consistently fresh-tasting ingredients and a light touch with sauces. This is some of the best Chinese in town. It's not at all greasy. I have ordered from just about everywhere in town, and only a certain place in Mattydale is better, and arguably it's too close to call. The food is excellent, there are many healthy options; my favorite is the health menu where you can pick 6 basic ingredients, a sauce, and then various add-ins. Tofu is included in the 6 basic items, so it's easy to get a good vegetarian meal, as well. I have recommended this place to many people. read more

Our office ordered from China Cafe last week. This was my first time trying their food, so was apprehensive. Was surprised at how much I liked it! China Cafe has lots of vegetarian options; I got sesame tofu. The tofu was cooked just right, not rubbery, as too many restaurants do it. It came with steamed fresh broccoli, rice and egg roll, all for $5.50!! (At that price, I had expected food that was memorable only for the wrong reasons.) First off, I searched for China Cafe in Manlius, NY and somehow this China Cafe came up in the middle of my real search results. Without realizing it I called and placed my order. I then arrived at the real China Cafe where the food is alway really good and they told me that I had ordered from a location downtown. Of course I thought she meant downtown Manlius and I left to find this location. I called and asked for the address and she said downtown and gave an address then hung up. I searched and searched didn't find it. I returned to the regular location and placed my order. These folks called two hours later repeatedly ( I didn't know it was them as we were watching a movie) I finally got up to answer and the guy wanted me to pick up the order. I explained I looked for them and the female was nasty when I called. He wanted me to pay, and the lady in the background was screaming her head off. We love this place. At first we thought the same that they seem rude but they turn out very friendly. You have to understand that their English is not perfect. Their food is awesome!!! Awful and oily! Honestly, we expected that it would be very hard to mess up fried rice but we were wrong. Further more, the Lo Mein and Chow Mein were barely edible. On the website they guaranteed to deliver within 4 miles. I called to place my order and they were very rude when I gave my address. They said they would love my service but no driver would want to drive all the way out there! I even took that into consideration before I called! If you looking for Chinese food, CHINA CAFE you have to try. I have tried a lot of restaurants and after all the insane stomach aches and weird headaches, this restaurant has really surprised me. Delivery is always on time, on top of the delivery man being nice and respectful. Their has not been a time my order was wrong. Note: I have ordered from them order 100 times and I have literally recommended to other people and they were happy. If you like bamboo house, you will leave them for China cafe. Very disappointed when my order came with NO WHITE RICE WHEN I SPECIFICALLY ASKED IF I CAME WITH WHITE RICE. Also the sauce had leaked through the bag and made a mess and to top it off they didn't even include napkins!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who puts giant mushrooms in lo mein?! Nobody likes mushrooms!!!!! Ordered delivery for two around 6:30. Didn't receive the meal until close to 9pm. Called three times, and the woman only kept saying "Ten more minutes!" The delivery guy was nice enough, but probably only because he knew he had screwed up. Not sure if it was the language barrier, or convenience, but we tried more than once to just ask for a refund, and forget about it. Ordered online with card, so there was little that could be done. The food was obviously cold once it got here, so we had to heat it up. Mediocre at best. Overall, I can say we'll never be ordering from China Cafe again. read more

This will be the only thing I miss from Syracuse. Their food is that good. Tip: Don't use delivery if you don't want to wait too long on a busy day (like Sunday night). The first time I ordered it took them one and a half hour for the food to arrive. And their service was bad. The second time it took them faster to deliver (within an hour). This the best Chinese food I have ever had. The proof is that I eat there every day. I have tried so many dishes and they were all great. People ask whats good here and I tell them everything, so what ever u order u will appreciate. The prices are also very good. I have not eaten Chinese food anywhere else since I started eating there. When I go there I feel right a home, the staff is so friendly. All of my coworkers from the federal build go there now. I live thirty mins away and on Saturday I drive to get there food if I want Chinese food. There so many other people that go there every day as well, i'm not the only one. China Cafe is the only place I order Chinese Food. They deliver put to the valley where I live in less than an hour. I love their bubble teas (they deliver that as well) and the shrimp broccoli and other shrimp dishes are great. They don't however put enough spice when you ask for something to be hot. It was horrible weather outside and I didn't realize it until right after I ordered it on GrubHub. I waited for them to call me and say it would be late and/or they weren't delivering - but they actually came with my food 20 minutes less than GrubHub predicted. Just happened upon this Chinese restaurant while seeking a place to eat early on a Sunday afternoon while in town for SU Parents weekend. All three of us ordered the same thing - Healthy Diet Combo for only $7.95. You could pick from a great selection of fresh veggies (as many as 6). Then add in chicken, shrimp or other meat/seafood (small additional charge). Pick a sauce and select brown rice as an option. What a great value! This has been my favorite spots for the last few months. I have enjoyed most of the items on the menu that i have tried but their General Tso is just delightful!
