We door dashed and the order arrived quickly. We ordered honey chicken honey shrimp, sweet and sour chicken, fried rice and lo mein as well as crab rangoons. The crab rangoons were EMPTY, they had no filling! So much so my son who usually eats around the filling ate all of them! All three mains had the same thick oily breading and just weren't good. The rice was actually inedible. It was crunchy and I couldn't tell if it was undercooked or overcooked. The one saving grace was the lo mein. That was delicious and was the only thing that had any merit. We usually give restaurants a couple chances but I don't think we'll be trying this one again. read more

Now the reviews of this place have been pretty negative lately and I just want to say they are incredibly unwarranted. First of all. The place was very clean and cozy. The staff was incredibly nice as well. I ordered 2 of the lunch specials to try because they're a great deal and I was curious. I got the chicken lo mein and the Chicken with Garlic sauce. Worst food in Cedar Rapids. Went for lunch early afternoon. Three guests total. Not a service style restaurant, no problem. Order your food and sit down. Not the worst conditions inside but heater was kicking full blast. Bathroom was appallingly dirty and smelled of warm urine (only experienced this after not eating the food... spoiler alert) I placed the orders for all three and paid plus a tip and sat. All lunch specials, with chicken fried rice and spring roll. One beef and broccoli, one shrimp and broccoli, one sweet and sour chicken. Food came quickly, was hot and decent portions for the price... that's where the complements start and stop. Serve brought out two beef and broccoli, no shrimp option, other dinner decided not to fuss and just eat the beef. The rice was grey and brown, sad slivers of steamed white chicken breast, and undercooked onions. Tasted like carbon buildup from flat-top grills. Not sure what was worse, the lack of flavor or the little bit you could taste after taking a bite. Beef and sauce bland and oily, carrots and broccoli hardly cooked and certainly not seasoned. Third guest had the sweet/sour chicken and that was fine, she swapped her rice for white rice. Still looked over cooked and little minute-rice. We complained and were refunded for the two meals. I can't remember when I paid so much for so little. I ordered a seafood combo with veggies and while the taste was ok, the amount of seafood ratio to veggies was zilch. The portion sizes are small, which would be fine if the food were really good but it's below average. Scarce and tiny little bits of meat seems to be their trademark. China Inn is one of those places that you usually see in a strip Mall that prepares mediocre tasteless substandard imitations of Chinese food. China Inn however takes the bland Chinese cheapfest one step above the rest. If you are selective, you will find many dishes that are very good. The vegetables and meat dishes are usually fine but I would avoid the breaded pork and chicken dishes. Like most cheap chinese take-outs and buffets, the meat is hard to find amidst the oil soaked breading. The Moo Shu dishes are very good as is the lo Mein, and their Egg Foo Young is very good as well . On some days the dishes are prepared better than on others. I think it all depends who is on the woks in the kitchen. Sometimes the spices are either too little or missing altogether making for bland tastes. The low prices however make China Inn a real bargain if you select right, you won't be disappointed. read more

Chinese is my favorite food so I get excited when I order. But they were nearly 20 minutes late on their expected delivery time and when we got the food it was cold. Which is impressive considering its 80 degrees out today. So we called them to let them know and they told us we would have to drive the food to them for anything to be done. But honestly I'm not upset about not going back to them, the chicken was questionable in my opinion and the broccoli wasn't fully cooked. By far my favorite in Cedar Rapids if want some fast eatable Chinese food. Lunch price is really good: $5.25 includes an entree with chicken fried rice and a can of soda. The downtown location is also convenient. Staff is friendly but sometimes I found it hard to understand the guy when placing order over the phone. Otherwise a great Chinese fast food restaurant, definitely recommend it over Panda Express and some other surrounding asian restaurants. read more

Terrible!!! I paid the same I would at better Chinese restaurants for chicken chow main. China Inns chow mein is a majority of what looked like cabbage with a few pieces of boiled chicken in it. I was skeptical at first but was coaxed into ordering delivery by my son who frequents China Inn. I was pleasantly surprised...the food is very fresh, and isn't extra greasy and heavy like a lot of chinese take out can be. Now when I say it isn't greasy...don't expect "health food"...it is the americanized version of chinese....but it isn't as heavy and nasty as other places I've tried, including a local grocer that is quite popular (MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN THEIRS...and I like theirs also...just...this is so much better!) It is apparent they use fresh ingredients and fresh vegetables, and service is always quick, friendly and very helpful! Online ordering is a breeze and they have called to check with me every time to make sure my order is accurate and that I did place the order. The orange chicken here is amazing. It's so well cooked and the zest of lemon peel in it is perfect. The food here has a lot of dimension in taste and the ingredients are not spared on at all. Vegetables, seasonings and the sauces are great. The spring rolls are good at all times of day, always fresh and the egg foo young is just perfect. It's hard to find a good delivery restaurant in Marion - so if you want Chinese food order from here. The prices are well worth the quality of the food. They do large orders too for more than 3 people. I also like the way they prepare their plain rice, it's clean and fluffy and holds together just right without being sticky. Service is degrading. A few years ago the delivery order would be at our house in 20 minutes. Lately it has taken an hour or more. Do not add a tip to the online delivery order. They have been adding the tip on the receipt hoping I will add the tip again doubling the tip portion of the order to my charge card.
