We tried this place mainly because they offer shrimp toast, which isn't very common around here. The shrimp toast was nice, crispy on the outside with a yummy shrimp paste inside. The egg roll was also nicely done with crispy wrapper, but I do wish they wouldn't cheap out and put pork in there. We also got the sesame and general tso chicken specials with pork fried rice and chicken fried rice. They screwed up the order though, and both had pork fried rice. The fried rice itself lacked egg, peas, carrots, and scallions. It was pretty plain but fine. The flavor of the general tso sauce was sweet but good, and the batter was inconsistently crispy and mushy depending on the piece. Reminded me of buffet fare. We also got the chicken lo mein which was also mid. It was fine, had better, had worse. Overall, I liked what I had for the deal I got on it via redacted delivery service. I paid $40 with tipping the delivery driver and fees. It would've been $50 without the deal, which would've left me less pleased. I would have them again but perhaps in better weather to pick it up myself. I would go with a spread of appetizers next time!

The menu has a great mix of familiar Chinese dishes alongside more traditional regional specialties, and it's clear the restaurant isn't afraid to lean into bold, spicy flavors. The ambiance is cozy. It looks like they turned an old Biscuitville into the dining space, which is quite charming. We ordered quite a few dishes, including the steamed soup dumplings, ox tongue and tripe with chili sauce, Singapore mei fun, intestine with chili pepper, mapo tofu, kung pao chicken, and the intestine noodle. Everything was well prepared, but the standout was how the restaurant balances more "American Chinese" flavors while also staying true to some more traditional chinese flavors as well. The chili-forward dishes had plenty of heat without overpowering the other flavors, and each dish had its own distinct character. The ox tongue and tripe appetizer and the intestine dishes were great options if you're looking to try something a little more traditional. The portions were generous, making it a great place to order several dishes and share with the table. If you're used to American Chinese food, this menu offers a chance to branch out and try something different while still having plenty of familiar options available. If there is a dish I would not order again, it would probably be the soup dumplings. They tasted just like the store bought frozen variety that you can steam at home. Nonetheless, New Sichuan Restaurant is well worth a visit if you're desiring flavors that somewhat lean towards more traditional Sichuan cooking.

The spicy wontons were room temperature, and I'm not sure if they're supposed to be, but they were the only thing we haven't loved. I ordered 2 lunch specials at $8.55 - Scallion Chicken and Beef in Garlic Sauce. Each came with Egg Fried Rice, Egg Drop Soup, and 2 small Spring Rolls. The Scallion Chicken was not a bad dish, but neither did it reach the level of a good dish. Why is it so hard for Chinese American restaurants to cook Scallion Chicken in a manner that does not result in gobs of gooey? And who decided that that particular cut of carrot was the right one for stir fries it is almost always overcooked! The Beef in Garlic Sauce was simply a flavorless mess, loaded with extraneous vegetables, including the particularly awful baby corn. I have had this dish at Jade Garden and China House, and both were very tasty! The baby corn is,in fact, regular corn that is picked while the corn is still immature, and has not yet developed the sweet corn taste most folks love - in fact, it has no flavor. It is loaded into stir fry dishes in Chinese American restaurants to make the dish seem larger. While it is used in China, it is not a staple. Most such corn is used in Thai, Indo-Chinese, or Chinese American dishes, mainly stir-fries. Most of the world supply comes from Thailand, and it is either canned or frozen, rarely if ever is it fresh. The Egg Drop Soup was very under seasoned, and the Spring Rolls needed a good amount of hot mustard. I may try some other items here, but certainly not these two!

Very disappointing experience…read more Our son has special needs and a very limited diet. The last time we were here, we were told something regarding bringing food for him, so this time I called ahead before coming to ask if we could bring his French fries in that he would eat. I specifically called because I wanted to respect the restaurant and avoid any issues. I explained the situation to the manager. I was told they have a kids menu, but none of the options on the kids menu are foods our son will eat because of his extremely limited diet. I explained that and asked if we could simply bring food that he can eat. The answer was still no. We weren't trying to get around the rules or avoid purchasing a meal. We called ahead, explained the situation, and asked for a simple accommodation so our son could sit with his family and eat. What was most disappointing was the lack of understanding or willingness to work with us. Saying "we have a kids menu" doesn't solve the problem when a child with special needs cannot eat any of those options. We made every effort to handle this respectfully. Unfortunately, that same consideration was not extended to our family. We will not be returning.

There's other serviceable Chinese food spots in the area, but they've always been consistent with their lunch service and as a sit down option, we prefer them over almost anyone else in the area. My wife got the General Tsos chicken with fried rice and wonton soup. I got the Szechuan beef with fried rice and it was delicious. Their beef is always cooked very well for thin cuts. Not chewy, very tender and flavorful. The veggies that come with it, the sliced celery, green peppers and carrots were cooked a little under to my liking, but it paired well with the beef flavor and the sauce its prepared in. Didn't get the chance to taste any of my wife's food but she was happy with it. Their food is always prepared very well anyways, so it was no surprise. Wasn't much of a lunchtime crowd, so the setting was quiet and we enjoyed it. I wish they'd bring their Sunday buffet back. Pre covid, we would visit them after church often and got to sample most of everything on their menu, which was also very good as well. That's the only complaint I have I suppose.

They are very friendly and accommodating. I normally go in to pick up my order that I called in and that's what I did the other evening when I realized that I hadn't reviewed this wonderful place. It is a very small place. There are no sitdown tables. It's mostly all kitchen and a front counter to either take your order or pay for same. There is a bottled beverage machine in the lobby area to pick up something to drink. The China House is nestled into a small shopping center off of Jonestown Road. If you live in the area it is very convenient and they're open on Mondays. There's one other place called China wok close by as well but it is not open on Monday so China House is my go to when that happens and I'm craving my Asian food. Both places serve yummy food. This evening it was close to their closing time at 10pm and I placed an order around 20 minutes before closing and they reminded me they were closing at 10pm and so I hopped in the car after ordering and got there 10 minutes before closing and the person at the counter told me they would've stayed open even if I hadn't gotten there quite in time to accommodate me which I really appreciated! They are happy to help their customers. The man at the counter was so nice with a great big smile on his face and it brightened up my evening! They had my order ready when I got there and asked me if I wanted sauces with it, threw a bunch of sauces in my bag and I was on my way! Quick and easy! I highly recommend this place as our food is always good but it's not a dine in place it's takeout only. You can pick up a takeout menu if you're stopping by or going in to pick up your next meal.

The last few times I've had take out from here, it has been much less tasty, differently processed, assembled, and sauced, than what I'd experienced for several years. In May, I tried their Singapore Chow Mei Fun, and it was very good, as good as the best I've had in the Triad. The next three visits were, at best, disappointing! The dishes I tried after that were Shrimp Lo Mein, Pepper Steak with Onions (twice), Mongolian Beef, Chicken Wings with Pork Fried Rice, and Shrimp in Curry Sauce. All of these are dishes I had before, at least once, most more often. Only the Shrimp with Lo Mein was above average, none of the other dishes rose to the level of quality I'd received here before, in fact all were very ordinary. And the Fried Rice which was loaded with cubes of pork, had little to none. I hate this has happened because I do very much enjoy certain Chinese American dishes. There are several others around - Mr Lu's, Great China, and East China - but none are as close, nor were they quite at quality level I previously saw here.

The center is one of those twisting/ turning ones that stays busy. There is no table service, you order at the register, pay up, and await your order. The service was ok, but not at all pleasant, no thank you! I ordered an egg roll ($1.75), chicken wings (4 for $7.75) and Mongolian Beef ($10.25). The order took just about 20 minutes. All the items were good to very good. The chicken wings were full wings, well sized, nicely cooked, and full of flavor. At the current prices for this item at most places, this is a bargain, and a tasty one! The egg rolls, there were 2 of them, were small compared with those at other places, but there were 2! The roll was nicely cooked, and had a nice flavor. The Mongolian Beef was a nice version with plenty of tender, sliced beef. The sauce was a bit heavy, but was not totally overpowering. There were a collection of veggies as you see at many places, which is not what the original dish calls for, and seems to make the dish appear larger than it would other wise be. All in all, this was tasty and a good choice for Chinese American fare. Ambiance - 1 Food - 4 Service - 3 Value - 4

China is located in the shopping center where Johnny B's is located on Stratford Road and was crazy busy which to me is always a good sign. We ordered crab rangoon, steamed dumplings, the beef with broccoli combo with white rice (also comes with an egg roll) and the chicken with mixed vegetables combo with white rice (and the egg roll). The crab rangoon was probably the best dish out of everything we ordered and some of the best we've had here in Winston Salem. The steamed dumplings were okay and would probably be better if they were eaten as soon as we picked them up and not after a 10 minute drive. Both entrees were good, however my husband prefers the beef with broccoli at our normal Chinese takeout place. The egg rolls were basic and glad they were part of the entree as it wouldn't be something we would order separately. All in all, we enjoyed our meal and would definitely get the crab rangoon here again while maybe trying some other entrees. I'm looking at you General Tso chicken.

The General Tso's chicken is spiced to perfection. My absolute FAVORITE though, is the teriyaki chicken skewers. I've never tasted anything so wonderful in my life. I could go there and only eat those and be more than happy. Egg rolls are always on point too.
