This restaurant is close to home, but not our regular go-to, since they only do take out. I prefer to eat at the restaurant, so it took me a while to get over here to check out China Chef's. But recently, I wanted to stay in my jammies and take away food was just what I needed for such an occasion. You can place an order online, then go to the drive through to pick it up. There's a handwritten sign on the door that tells you to call a number when you arrive to pick up your order. When I did that, they told me to go to the window to pick it up. I'm not sure if you could go to the drive through window to order directly, but I bet they could accommodate that. When we got home, the food was piping hot and every last item was covered in plastic wrap. This helped not to spill and to keep the food hot, but it sure made the eco-friendly side of me shudder. The food was really good. My wife says that this may become our new go-to for Chinese and my son happily scarfed his down, leaving enough for the next day's lunch leftovers. read more

It's been a few years since I've been here and I forgot how good it is here! I've been back twice now in the last few weeks, the food is so good. I've ordered the pon pon chicken, general tso chicken, Mongolian style beef, cream cheese wontons, and the lo mein with soft noodles and all are delicious! I ordered over the phone and picked up my orders both times. They have you go through drive thru to pick up your order. I was a little hesitant once I pulled up and saw 3 cars in front of me but surprisingly the line went pretty quickly and I had my food in about 10 min. You get a lot for what you pay for, my orders have been accurate, fresh and hot both times. I am hooked! If you're looking for quick and delicious Chinese food definitely come here for it! read more

Food is decent but the best I can find in the riverton/herriman area. We usually get low mein, sesame chicken, and hot and sour soup which are all good enough for us. Service is quick and nice but nothing special since we mainly do take out. I do like that they have a drive through window. Haven't been inside so can't speak on the ambiance. read more

Dining room is most often closed. Call and pickup to go is the safest plan. Lots of good fresh vegetables. Fried rice is okay, add a bit of soy sauce. Broccoli Beef has a bit of a sweeter flare than other Chinese restaurants but tastes really good. Also ordered the House Special Noodle Fried Rice. It was very good, shrimp fresh, but the noodles were overcooked and bit hard to eat. Dinner comes with white rice and so I poured it over the rice and it was great. read more

I don't know what's happened to the China Chef. It used to be my favorite Chinese food and I came here often. But recently when I get sweet-and-sour pork or orange chicken or lemon chicken I get dried battered chicken and then a little cup of what looks like the sauce you dip your wontons in. Visited for lunch time and ordered the Kung Pao Beef from the lunch special menu. The portions were huge. The fried rice was really good, it had plenty ham, eggs and veggies. That's the way I like my fried rice. That's the way fried rice should be, and not what other restaurants served as fried rice. The egg drop soup was really good as well. The Kung Pao Beef was a little more salty than I like it but not bad, they forgot to add the peanuts on my plate but brought them in a separate bowl. I've been eating at this restaurant for six years now and have always enjoyed it until the scam Demić hit and all the wheels came off the bus for them. Now they're trying to Soli exist as a drive-through takeout Chinese restaurant and it is becoming an epic failure for them. Last night we ordered 2 orders of egg foo young (best egg foo young in the world) sweet and sour pork, egg drop soup, walnut shrimp, cashew chicken, low main, and loved everything. The food is spectacular. We "scheduled" a delivery time and they showed up within 6 minutes of said time. It's not cheap but I'll never get Chinese food anywhere else again. read more

This place is definitely our go-to chinese restaurant place. My wife and i have lived here in Utah (South Jordan Area) for over a year now and we always drive by this place and am shocked to see a restaurant the offers a drive thru service as well. Anyway, last night at around 8pm, we decided to order General Tso to go. We only ordered one order, just to see how it tasted like. I went in and its so cute how this place is so small but cozy. After the receptionist took my order, I sat in the waiting area and about 5 minutes later a little asian woman came out with my order bagged up and she was really cheerful as well. That was a plus. We got home and wow, I'm amazed and how much chicken they gave for the order, it was actually good enough for my wife and I. We had extra rice too at home (we're asian) and thats all this order needed since the rice it came with is good for one person. Anyway, I love how hot and fresh the chicken was and the amount of sauce/seasoning on the chicken is great! It tastes really good! I also like how the chicken pieces arent too big or too small. My wife actually is really picky when it comes to food and she loves it as well. So looks like this place will be on our list on the places that we will be going to to order food. read more

PLEASE, NO OFFENSE! Daybreakers, you let me down with the China Chefs recommendation. I have to rate it with "I hope I don't get food poisoning." 1. Arrives 20 min. late. I can forgive that every day if it's really good. Spoiler...it was disgusting. 2. Everything was cold or lukewarm at best. 3. Ordered two American-style Chinese classics S&S chicken and sesame chicken. Should be easy. 4. S&S chicken description, "Cantonese sweet and sour sauce , green bell pepper , onion , carrot , and pineapple ." There are no added veggies or fruit. It's just cold soggy chicken on a lackluster sauce. 5. Sesame chicken taste like it's basted in catsup with a hint if smoke and sugar. It was actually inedible. 6. The ham-fried rice was okay. 7. I used to love the food at China Chefs. I don't know what's happened! It was mostly inedible today! I ordered $70, including gratuities and tossed 3/4 of it. The wrapped 'chicken' was burnt and stuck to the paper - also, did not look or taste like chicken. On the appetizer platter, the chicken on a stick was tough and tasteless, as was the super thin, heavily breaded shrimp! The eggrolls were stale, old and greasy! Chow mein was in a thick, chunky base, no fresh vegetables - basically white - the entire dish. Just yuck! A total waste of money. Like I said, it used to be good - now nasty! read more

I usually don't leave reviews however the service tonight was really poor. I was always told I was in a free delivery area in the past and I ran the map quest it was under 5 miles. They asked me after waiting for 1 hour for my food if I wanted to pick it up because they didn't know when the driver would be able to make it. Not happy with service I received tonight. We have been going to the South Jordan location (now closed) and the Riverton location since their openings and have NEVER been disappointed. Sure, they have always ran with a barebones staff, but they have always been attentive. It is part of their charm. Pon Pon Chicken is their signature dish, but I also love their MooGoo GaiPan & Beef & Broccoli. Most of all, I love love love their Egg Foo Yung, which I crave on a regular basis. My only recommendation with the Egg Foo Yung is to get the Szechuan sauce on the side, since they tend to over sauce it and it is quite potent. I actually look forward to their Egg Drop soup, which is the best I have had (throw some of their starter fried won tons to make it extra good). Though it is not to my taste, their hot and sour soup is my wife's favorite. China Chefs is our family's favorite Chinese restaurant, bar none. Not bad, not great. The bar for Chinese food is generally pretty low for me, as it's getting to the point these days where these places almost provide a universal service rather than a unique dining experience. I've had some truly sensational Chinese takeout, but often places like these are just barely "passable". I may try this place again, but more likely I will seek a better place next time. We got the Sesame Chicken and General Tso's, and we both agreed that the Sesame was much better tasting (but had a weird bright fluorescent orange color). The Tso's kind of tasted like something you would get at a gas station (if you're brave). Overall, our biggest gripe was that the sauces were far too thick and cloying, and looked a little too heavy on the colors to be natural. My favorite part about the meal was the Cream Cheese Wontons, which contain nothing but warm cream cheese. Often they have imitation crab or hunks of onions, but these ones are just a fried shell with a creamy center. For some reason they were really addicting, and I could see myself returning just for another order of them. However, the sweet and sour sauce for dipping was pretty awful, so much so that I wouldn't ever order the Sweet and Sour entree. This place will do in a pinch, but I'm still searching for a better staple Chinese restaurant that I can eat at regularly. read more

We like it here. We try to go 3-4 times a month. The people are really nice (truly), the portions are big, the flavor is good. They serve their Chinese version of "chips and salsa" which is fun. When they are busy the service is slower than one would like but they are just such nice people doing such a good job that you don't care. We're lucky to live so close. read more
