I am pretty sure that I had been to China Chef before, but it was a long time ago and I didn't yelp it then. Tonight my husband and I had the dinner special. The dinner came with a cup of soup, fried wontons and egg rolls, an entree, and choice of rice or lo mein noodles. I had the hot and sour soup which was very good. For my entree, I had the chicken with vegetables and lo mein noodles. Both were very good. My husband had the Kung Pao Chicken for his entree. He enjoyed it although he thought it was a little bit too salty and not spicy enough. We paid around $44 for all of this including 2 Diet Cokes. The service was good - server was friendly, and food was brought out quickly. The ambiance was casual, but comfortable. China Chef satisfied the craving for Chinese, and we will definitely keep it in mind next time we have that craving!

The food was delicious. Portions humongous. Service is what I was expecting. Polite but not really warm fuzzy feelings. Ambiance is a bit lacking but we're here for the food. That said, it was clean and smelled delicious from the cooking. Food ordered; egg rolls, egg drop soup, bbq pork, bbq pork fried rice and chicken with vegetables. As I mentioned the portions were generous. Bring friends, lots of friends!

Yummy yummy! Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings! Not many places do these wings and they are done with a tempura batter, very good.

Still the best wings in the area! Always hella crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Seasoned well and perfect spice. Consistent and fresh. All these new wings spots popping up and but this is where the wings are fire! Thanks for feeding me!

NEVER coming here again. I can't believe there are so many places around here that are this bad and are still allowed to serve food, and that people love eating at these places with the rave reviews and high ratings. It was my first and last time here. I got the Salt and Pepper Chicken, which was pretty good/ okay. Very good if you're rating according to Temecula standards. The problem I encountered was with the Mapo Tofu. As soon as I tasted it, I concluded it was the absolute worst Mapo Tofu I've ever had. It didn't taste horrible, but it was nothing like Mapo Tofu I've had at a few Chinese places around here, and where I'm from anywhere in the Chicagoland area of many years of having it. It had to have been EGG DROP SOUP, mixed with a bunch of tofu, flavored somewhat differently as an attempt to remotely resemble Mapo Tofu, and it wasn't even spicy...maybe a 2 on a scale of 10. Mapo Tofu is supposed to be a spicy dish, and has never had the consistency and taste of Egg Drop Soup from any of my experiences. Plus, it was the color of a muddy Egg Drop Soup, yellow-brownish, versus a red-orange, peppery color as I'm used to having at every single other place I've ever had Mapo Tofu. BUT, what sealed the deal of me completely avoiding this place from now on, was finding a LONG, CRINKLY WIRE that resembled a long, undone staple while eating their fake Mapo Tofu. I have no idea what that was, as it was over an inch long if it were to be unkinked, and it was way more kinked than a staple, and too long to be one. WHAT IF I SWALLOWED THAT SH*T?! And it was completely empty with only 1 occupied table when I went in. The cooks weren't in a hurry, scrambling to meet a ton of orders. There's no reasonable excuse for this. I SHOULD'VE LOOKED AT OTHER CUSTOMER PHOTOS, as they have had NASTY, foreign objects in other people's food before, INCLUDING A COCKROACH. HELLO HEALTH DEPARTMENT! Disappointing because I thought I found a place where I might be able to get some at least halfway decent Chinese food with dishes akin to what I miss eating in Chinatown back home in Chicago. AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU HAVE ANY KIND OF STANDARDS FOR REMOTELY DECENT FOOD. I keep writing bad reviews, then taking the vast majority down because I don't want to be a "downer", but this area has some of the absolute crappiest standards in food, customer service, design, and ambiance...even just hole-in-the-wall places with character. It's SO DIFFICULT finding anything good, even halfway decent around here! I CAN'T STAND THIS PLACE AND NEED OUT. It is the absolute most depressing and heavy place I've ever had the misfortune of spending any meaningful length of time at. Absolutely threw that garbage out, not being the type to waste food. I WOULD LOVE A REFUND.

If you love traditional Chinese food, China Chef is the place to get it! No fancy mood lighting here, just really good food. Because they only stick to the real Chinese dishes, and not the "gourmet" or "cater to American" taste style of cooking, you get food straight out of a wok that tastes like it was cooked in a wok. Not everyone is as a proficient eater as I, so I'll make a couple mid-level (on the authenticity scale) suggestions to try to help ease your tastebuds in. Beef with Tofu in Egg Sauce (Slippery Eggs Beef w/ Tofu) - this is a lunch menu item that you can ask for as a dinner entree. If you've never tried this dish, do it at China Chef. They make it perfectly: silky ribbons of egg in a light sauce drenching tender beef and silken tofu. This is Cantonese comfort food at its best! Salt and Pepper Tofu - another classic dish done quite well. They use silken tofu that they batter and deep fry to produce a textural symphony in your mouth. The outside is light and crispy and the tofu inside disintegrates when bitten into. Combine the great texture with salt, garlic, and chili peppers and you have yourself a highly addictive "snack" food for dinner. Don't forget to use your check-in offer for the free cream cheese wontons (this is not Chinese food BTW). Even though they are a little out-of-place, they aren't half bad and are free, so you might as well help yourself. Just like the best Chinese restaurants, the staff won't exude Western hospitality. The fact is that they aren't there to feed you smiles, just really good food.

The food here is incredible! We ordered the salt and pepper pork chops, sautéed green beans, and combination fried rice--everything was fresh and full of flavor. Coming from LA and having experienced the food in Chinatown, I can confidently say this place is on the same level. The ingredients are high quality, and you can really taste the difference. Photos below are of left overs! Still enough to have a great meal at home.

China Chef just opened and had amazing Chinese food! Authentic Chinese food with great prices!! My husband and I were able to have a delicious affordable lunch for under $13 (for the both us!). They currently have lunch specials with a great menu selection. The Duck is the best! Amazing food, quick to serve, great prices and service with a smile. We had our family gathering here last night and everything was perfect. The food was top class amongst similar restaurants in the area, including San Diego where we are from. And this is coming from a Chinese who craves the Cantonese style. We ordered Peking duck, fish fillet, spinach stir fry, and salt and pepper chicken. Portions are huge for the price, taste was delicious, and staff courteous. Can't ask for more from a restaurant. read more

If they had 0 stars that's what I'd give them. Worst Chinese food I've ever had in my life, does anyone there know how to cook? I don't understand how somebody could make multiple plates of food with no flavor, but they did. Delivery took a really long time and the food ended up being cold also, broccoli beef had tons of broccoli and barely any beef, the orange chicken was dry and tasted like nothing.. literally nothing.. the fried rice looking like they just threw soy sauce on steamed rice on it and called it good, also had no flavor (not even salty). I really don't know how they could mess up something as common as chow mien either, VERY DISAPPOINTED! Will never eat this shit food again. read more

Awesome customer service!!! Everyone working there is very nice and friendly. We ordered Peking duck which is very authentic. Crispy duck skin with steamed buns is definitely beyond expectation. The separated duck meat is plentiful for two which we couldn't even finish. A very enjoyable dinner! I would rate 6 stars if I could! ;) Thanks! Had several different dishes and all were bland and very oily. Tasted like everything was cooked in the same grease (too much of it) and all the food had the same underlying flavor. Besides the bones and grisle in the lettuce wraps, everything was cooked and presented well, but the flavor really fell short. Staff was freindly and attentive. read more

Never thought I would ever plug any Chinese restaurant in Temecula but today my lovely wife Melissa took me out for a nice birthday meal at this new Chinese Restaurant called "China Chef" (formerly "Mings") on Ynez. We were shocked and pleasantly surprised as to how authentic and incredible the meal was. I can truly say that it's on par with many, many great Chinese restaurants out there. They say that they have been opened for only 3 months and business has been slow for them. You guys owe yourself a great meal there and support this local restaurant! We had the following 1) Peking Duck - Sooooo Crispy! comes with flat buns Hmmmmm 2) Live lobster cooked in ginger and garlic sauce (I will no longer drive out to OC for this 3) Garlic fried live Crab - Man of man, I say no more 4) Singapore Curry noodle - YUM and a final surprise a homemade sweet lotus bun made right on the spot for my birthday - An unexpected treat! read more

Just orderd take out from here. This food is awesome! So fresh and not over seasoned. Just the right amount of garlic/ginger/spice on everything. We hate having drippy slimey sauce that most Chinese resteraunts think we want. This place is legit! Going back this week to try the lobster and crap! read more

I really wanted to like this place, but it fell short of my expectations. The decor is lacking, but who really cares about that if the food had been awesome. The service was great! Very attentive waiters and we received our food quickly. We ordered 3 items: moo shoo pork, beef chow fun, and a filet Mingon dish. Everything was bland, and very oily/fatty. The best dish was the moo shoo pork, but even that was not great. We paid $50 for our meal! I felt cheated. High price and not great food. We won't be back. read more

This is some seriously legit Cantonese food. As soon as the guy knows you speak Chinese, he'll offer you anything you want even if it's off the menu. I loved that he was willing to customize certain dishes I liked a certain way and the dishes were not overly greasy. You know it's good when the chefs are Chinese. They have the typical Panda Express type dishes but also authentic Chinese food as well. Service was impeccable. He was very attentive and very friendly. I was here with my Filipino boyfriend's family and he knew what foods they liked and knew some Tagalog. Impressive! If I'm ever craving some authentic Cantonese comfort food, this would be my go-to spot. read more

Just ordered take-out from China Chef. The Salt and Pepper Green Beans were delicious. Crunchy and garlicky. My husband had the Twice Cooked Pork, and he was very pleased with it. The pork was tender and juicy, the cabbage nice and spicy. A great find. We will come back for more. read more

We go to try it today. The price is too high comparing with the price. And my son cried all the meal because the environment there is so oil. We can smell the cooking oil and the furniture is like at least 20 years. Good thing is the food is too hot and need to wait for 20 minutes to start eating. Lobster with noodle is 35 dollar and more. So we didn't order it. We paid 40 dollar for two dish, which made the boss a little unhappy because my son is crying all the time. I don't want to try that any more. I am sorry!! read more

Pork dumplings were soggy and the dough was falling apart and the flavor was okay. Chicken wings were the best thing we had. Crispy, hot, and flavorful. Singapore noodles had a curry flavor which was unusual but it was just okay. The roast duck was good but I've had better. The sesame balls with red bean were hot and yummy, a close second to the chicken. Atmosphere was clean but the overall dining experience could have improved if the host did not wear a tank top - it was just unappetizing. Overall, he was friendly and nice and good but not sure if we would come back for anything in particular. read more

I have been going to this place almost every week since under the new management, and my wife goes there with her girl friends very often as well. Foods are wonderful with reasonable prices and portion. Very personal service and accept special requests for dishes made to custom. Went at 6pm on a Saturday evening an we were the only people there. Food was made with poor quality ingredients. Salt and pepper wings were under cooked. Kung Pao chicken had raw vegetables. House fried rice made with short grain rice and was mushy. House fried rice was all busted up and looked like crumbs. We went to this place because of the high Yelp rating. I suspect that the previous reviews were submitted by friends of the owner or something. There is no way that this place is 4.5 stars. Maybe 2 stars on a good day. I must not have gone on a good day. read more

By far the best Chinese food in town. The staff is super friendly, knowledgeable and happy to make special items. Inviting atmosphere and immaculate. We continue to tell our friends about this place and get raves from them on the food and the service. We have tried most of the other Chinese restaurants in Temecula and feel this is the standard we use to judge. Try it! You will be glad you did! read more

Wow! Just walked out of China Chef and am still in awe of the amazing meal my boyfriend and I just enjoyed! The Peking Duck was perfection and the soup they made with the bones was even better! Delicious. I got Sesame Chicken and the boyfriend got Orange Chicken. The steamed rice was amazing and sticky, and we used the check-in offer for free cream cheese wontons so the whole takeout order came out to ~$25 for the two entrees + appetizer. They were fast at getting the order ready while we drove over. The portions were great sized and I loved the sesame chicken because it was only lightly breaded and nice and crispy, unlike some generic chain Chinese places! I was stuffed after eating half, as was my boyfriend with his orange chicken which he raved about as well. We will definitely be back! read more

Newly opened Authentic Chinese cuisine in Temecula. Food is Canton style, fresh, and delicious. I enjoyed the Hong Kong style noodles, vegetable spring rolls, and eggplant tofu with garlic. Owner was extremely courteous and welcoming, went over the menu with me and recommended most of the dishes I tried. All were extremely well prepared and well seasoned. The Chef and his brigade are directly from China. The decor may not be the most appealing, however this might just be the best truly Authentic Chinese food in the area hands down. read more

My family has been going here for at least 2 years. Definitely the go-to Chinese restaurant in town. I have never been disappointed with a dish. Our server has usually been the owner on weekend nights and it's nice to see such quality control/attention to detail. My Chinese American in-laws agree that this place is always a treat. Well, if this is as good as it gets (4.5 stars) for Chinese food in Temecula, then I guess I'm done trying for good Chinese food. I ordered a simple dish to make: beef with broccoli from the lunch special menu. Very bland. It came with soup. The soup was really spicy so I couldn't taste anything other than chili type spice. It also came with an egg role. Holy hell! It tasted like cardboard. I'm guessing it absorbed the taste of the frozen package it came in? Gross! Then the straw that broke the camels back... $1.95 for an 12oz. can of Coke. Seriously? Almost $11.00 for a really crapy lunch. Oh well. read more

Stumbled upon this place and I must say I was pleased with the food. They have a plethora of options to choose from which can be overwhelming; but they have a dinner for two special and beer special which was nice to have! Ambiance is quiet but nice, pleasant vibes and is definitely for a dinner date or lunch date with whomever you choose - friend or not. Recommended to try! You'll enjoy it. read more

If you are looking for the best Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings in Southern California look no further. Do yourself a favor and enjoy them in the restaurant as they come to you hot and freshly prepared. I went to China Chef with my daughter and granddaughter, specifically looking for this dish and in fact called ahead to verify that it was on the menu. This is my new favorite restaurant and I'm glad they are close to me. I promise no matter where you are driving from it is worth it. The food is excellent and the service impeccable. read more

I came here last year and the food was amazing, it sure what happened but when I came this week the food sucked. I ordered the garlic chicken lunch meal. Bland no flavor at all. I felt ripped off. My Daughter suggested Chef K due to their 4+ star rating, even though she had never eaten there before. Hidden in an outdoor mall it just looks like a glass front suite, but enter the doors and the interior is beautiful and clean with comfy upholstered booths and chairs. The young server greeted us with a strong Asian accent and took us to our seats immediately. We were the only customers in the room which made me a little nervous, but is was 2pm on a Thursday after all. We were presented with a hardbound colorful book of their offerings... pretty cool. We ordered and were quickly presented with: Spicy Pepper Beef: A medium spice level with a savory dark soy sauce, bathing ultra tender beef slices, married with thin sliced jalapeño and diced red and green bell peppers. Unbelievably delicious. Walnut Honey Shrimp: Mega large butterflied prawns quickly fried with walnuts and sweet glaze, crispy and crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Tangerine Chicken: Large delicate and tender chicken breast pieces deep fried in a fluffy batter and glazed with a perfectly sweet and tart tangerine sauce. Our meal came with individual bowls of perfectly cooked jasmine rice. Enough food to feed 3 hungry adults and still have leftovers. $63 Why 5 stars? Without a doubt, the best, cleanest tasting Chinese dishes I have ever experienced. More to come from this place I'm sure. If you are anywhere near Temecula, get off the freeway and reward yourself.

We've always had a good time but our server today Brando (I think that was his name- according to the hostess) is the reason I am finally writing a review. What can I say? The prices were good and the food was excellent! The server was very nice but there was only one server for the entire section we were sitting in. I can't stress enough how awesome the food was. Both the fried rice and salt and pepper chicken are superb! Just something to keep in mind, this is a sit down restaurant with shared dishes. Ordered from doordash and I will NEVER order again. Our orange chicken looks nothing like the menu pictures and tasted like soggy microwaved chicken. Panda Express has Better orange chicken then this place. Our cream cheese wontons had LITERALLY A DROP of old cream cheese inside . Such a rip off. We threw away all of our food. This place is really great. This is one of the few authentic southern Chinese food I have been to in SoCal and the lobster and the Peking duck here are fresh. The price of the Peking duck is reasonably priced and I have not found a better price for it in LA or San Diego. read more
