red marks on the wall of a restaurant

The last time we were at Chili's in Johnstown,PA we were surrounded by fruit flies flying on and around our table and food. After a long hiatus we decided to give the place another try. Good news: no fruit flies. Bad news: dead flies stuck to the wall behind our booth! I know it's hard to tell from the picture, but believe me, those are 2 dead flies circled. This will be out last visit! Disgusting!!

Chili's is a Vann family favorite. The menu is large and accommodates everyone's interest. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. We started with the bottomless chips and salsa - a must do! The chips are so warm and the salsa fresh. I had the margarita flatbread and my sister had the chicken fajitas. Both were super good and large portions. We could have shared one of the dinners. Over all a great experiences as usual.

    Real good margarita flatbread

Light lunch crowd here and they can't seem to handle it. I'd feel sorry for them if it was a booming metropolis. Disappointed since I grew up in this town.

The vegetables were not crisp and perhaps even frozen. Even their chips were unusually bland?!? The server was not proficient in English, making it a bit more complicated as well. The interior was nice, clean, alive and perhaps a bit too loud for dining. Would eat here again if in the area, but only because there aren't many other choices. Should really step up their game because the potential is there!

The restaurant is more of a open floor plan. Which I didn't really care for because it seems cheap and exposes most guests to others. But the food? Fantastic. Flavorful. Hot. Quick. Good prices. All of that. Their salsa is fresh and flavorful with the chips. I ordered the Quesabirrias. They were delicious. Crispy. Hot. And the meat was tender and the sauce and barria were good too. The Alambre was also very good and with fresh ingredients and sizzling. They have a very vast menu so it is difficult to make a choice, but you will not be disappointed. Service was okay. We waited quite a bit of time for our check, but food came out fast and we were seated quickly.

Service was slow, all of our dishes were served warm at best (mine was cold), only exception being the fajitas which were served steaming hot. I had enchiladas plus a taco. Not very flavorful and skimpy on the fillings. A lot of tortilla and sauce but very little meat. My wife had the chili rellenos and while deep fried on the outside the cheese inside wasn't melted. One friend had the dish that they serve flaming (can't recall its name and I didn't get a pic) and it was meh. The fish tacos also not a highlight. The steak fajitas were said to be pretty good. Also note, chips and salsa are not complimentary, they charge $3.50 for soda water and have a sign at the entrance notifying a 5% discount if paying cash (i.e. a 5% credit card fee). I'm not sure if this was just an off night for them or not but there are a few Mexican spots in the area that are consistently good (Plaza Azteca in White Oak and El Campesino in Monroeville). I likely won't try Madero again.
