We had a great experience at the Johnstown Inn. The atmosphere is open, welcoming, and the kind of place where you immediately feel comfortable relaxing and enjoying a good meal. One thing you absolutely have to try is their pierogi pizza--it's easily the best around and such a fun local twist on pizza. Every time we've been there, the food has been consistently amazing. Stopped in for early dinner today. Wife got smothered chicken today. She was rationed cheese mushroom (canned) and onions. Aunt got baked fish and baked potato. Fish was old and barely warm enough to melt any butter on it. Baked potato was only half cooked. Will not be returning here when in the area. read more

Over the holidays I finally had the chance to try Johnstown Inn out. My sisters and I got together and decided to have dinner here. I had no idea where this was located so I rode along with my sister and her boyfriend. It's very odd, just outside of downtown Johnstown you would think that it would be a nice looking place because of the proximity, but what you get in appearance is like a back road bar. Parking lot is mostly dirt/gravel and the building on the outside looks like one that has been standing there for an extremely long time and kind of under taken care of. But looks can be deceiving, you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover and all those cliches you hear. Once inside you are completely put off the notion that this is a dive bar. When you finally let the initial shock take over and the stimulation has finally subsided, you realize that you are in a sports bar that is well disguised. I can't tell you all that goes on in here, but the night that I attended was a hockey night and if the Penguins scored a goal you got a specific beer on tap for $.87, not bad if you ask me. It's rather noisy in here, I chalk that up to the fact that there is a very high ceiling and nothing to muffle the noise. Well, there is a half wall that kind of divides the seating area from the bar area, but it does nothing more than serve as a divider of sorts. After showing up we had our menus in hand and were on our way to finding out meals. I do have to say that some of the menus may need replaced. Mine that I had was water stained, at least I think it was, which made it hard to tell what some items on the menu were. Thankfully with five of use here I was able to figure out what I was missing. Typical bar food items to choose from from salads and appetizers to entrees and pizzas. It was truly hard to figure out what to pick. As I was looking over the menu I watched plate after plate come out from the kitchen and it made me question each time I thought I had the perfect meal picked out. If salad is your thing, come here, they are HUGE. I ended up going with a Bacon Cheeseburger. When you order this you get to choose the bread it comes on which is just between a seed topped bun or bread, which I am assuming is made in house. You also get to choose your toppings, nice touch. I went with lettuce, onion, pickle, and mayo. As a side you can choose from fries, house salad, coleslaw, steamed broccoli, baked potato, or applesauce. I, of course, went with fries. Now, we are going to slow it down. Not because I want to, that's what happened after we ordered our food. Our server kind of left us hanging for a longer than usual time. We were just sitting there, chatting, occasionally watching the games on TV, and wondering where our food was. My brother-in-law had ordered a fish sandwich. Instead of telling us that this was going to be the longest to prepare and would, in the end, cause our plates to come out of the kitchen later than expected, we were left there to wonder if our food was being made. Wouldn't be bad, but we were right next to the server station and the doors to the kitchen. You could have at least popped by sooner than the half hour it took you to do so. When the food did start to trickle out we hit our next hiccup. No silverware. Not just for us, but the entire restaurant. How do you run out of clean silverware? So as that was washed it slowly made it's way to the table. We also had no napkins. If it wasn't for the table of servers preparing to roll silverware, we probably wouldn't have gotten any. We did have a few hiccups, but overall the experience was good. There would have been more stars if we would have been checked on more often. As for the food, great. The burger was cooked perfectly and was juicy to boot. The toppings were exactly as I asked for, onions might have had a little too much of a kick, but I managed. The cheese melted properly and the mayo ratio to burger was spot on. The fries, they were some of the crispiest fries I have ever had. Great crunch, held up to the ketchup, mouth watering. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals, great experience in that sense. Pricing wasn't bad and kind of expected. ATM on site if you don't want to pay with card. Popcorn machine with fresh popcorn for the taking. Ample TVs, big and small. Decent selection of beers on tap. read more

My boyfriend and I were out on a Friday night and found this place on maps. Promising pics, and we hadn't had bar food in a while. We split the cheesy garlics sticks, which were amazing!! I ordered the philly cheesesteak without the toppings and it was delicious! So much flavor. My boyfriend ordered a mushroom cheeseburger, and I had never seen him so excited for a burger in his life. Exceeded expectations! Stopped in for dinner on a busy Friday night, there was a wait time for our party of 6. The team worked to minimize that time and got a table promptly. There was a young man (I'm sorry I didn't get his name) that went above and beyond to get us seated as quick as possible and it was greatly appreciated! Our server, Autumn, was great! We have been a regular customer here for roughly 4-5 years. The service tonight was subpar. We asked for 2 sets of a dozen wings to be inn style and neither set of them came out that way, as well as the french fries ordered were not fresh whatsoever. The "manager" came out to address the situation and came off as extreme rude and gave a snark remark about the bill situation and was extremely rude to us about the entire thing. This place could be great. The food is very good, there's a wide variety of drinks and the staff is great. The two star review is for the owner. I heard years ago he's a greedy jerk. Watching every single thing in the place go up in price every year is solid evidence of his greed. The last time I was there for carry out - which will probably be my last time there, period - he was barking orders at the staff. It wasn't busy, not like people were waiting and getting impatient, he was yelling for yelling's sake. Those folks don't have enough problems with the Corona limitations and you cutting their hours, you have to treat them like dirt when they are there? Decent pizza and good wings. I can't say I'm a real fan on any of their wing sauces, so I just get the hot wings and they are good. The pizza seems like a popular dish, maybe because it's cheap. It's pretty good though. Not the best, but definitely worth the price. The drinks are too expensive. I am still giving them 4 stars for the decent food. That and it is always clean, and the staff are friendly. It adds up to 4 stars. It's worth going to this place. But the drinks are expensive unless you get the beer on special, like miller lite or whatever it is. If you want cocktails, maybe go somewhere else, unless you're rich, then buy me one too. read more

So my boyfriend and I came home from CA to visit my family. My parents just bought a house in the area (I grew up about 1/2 hour away). My parents go here all the time, so one night for dinner we come here. I ordered the regular sized Stromboli and he ordered the Philly Cheesesteak with fries. Best. Stromboli. Ever. With generous helpings of unique and tasty sauces. Wings are crisp on the outside filling mouthfuls of tender chicken to be torn off the bones with your choppers. Im in heaven. The strombolis huge with tons of cheese and fresh toppings of your choice. The dough homemade fresh every day completes this non regrettable entree. Sigh.....a full service bar, I'm told by our server. Not a decent craft beer to be had, so I thought I'd get a cocktail. I ordered a martini. "We don't make frozen drinks". "A martini is not frozen", I replied. "We don't have the ingredients", says she as I'm looking dumbfounded, about to ask if they don't have vodka or gin. "We don't carry Vermouth." I was initially amazed. I can't remember EVER not being able to order a martini! Even the cheapest of bars. So, I ordered a bottle of Sam Adams. I ordered a sm white pizza. Not bad, but not great. Dough was mediocre & shrimp topping was out of a can. Service was mediocre also. This place was hoppin'. I wonder why? No one at our tabl e was crazy about their food. Stopped to order take away pizza and, since it was around 3pm, I was the only person in the place. Met the owner and some of the staff and was very taken by their welcoming attitude and focus on service. They made lots of suggestions and explained the choices in detail. Had fried onion rings while I waited and they were great. So, it was no surprise when I got my pizzas home, to discover the plain cheese (Mother's choice) and the perogi (all for me!) were wonderful too. And they do fried fish most nights! Johnstown Inn is a usually date night stop for my boyfriend and I. We love it's sports bar atmosphere and you get good food for a good price. Thursday nights are always packed so if you are in a hurry don't head there but it's because Thursday night is Wing Night. $7 a dozen and they have so many flavors! You can't bet it. Though I love the food and the wing deal the service can be a bit slow, understandable though with how busy they are. Definitely have to try it when you are in town! read more

If the option to not choose a star was available I would have chosen that. Service sucked and our waitress messed up our buffalo chicken sandwiches (simple sandwiches) and never apologized. When she finally came back to check on how our meal was (45 minutes later) I mentioned that I was unhappy with the unmelted American cheese (that I didn't choose for the sandwich) the unbreaded chicken (also didn't choose that) and the flavor of the sauce (I did pick that) she never apologized and walked away it took an additional 40 minutes for the check so that was my $27 meal. The Inn has great food and service my wife and I are Vikings fans and go to the Inn to watch our games. Steve is great and tries to accomodate us when ever we visit. Chicken wings are great and the fish will make you come back time and time again.the burgers are fantastic and sized for a healthy appetite. Johnstown inn is a sports bar, no doubt about it. The walls are filled with flat screen TVs that run several sports events constantly. The place is packed on Sunday with whole families coming in to have supper and to watch the Steeler, Pirate and Penguin games. I've been there when it was standing room only and wait till a table opened up. They host a lot of local bands in the evenings, pop, country, rock and roll, and a trivia night that is well attended. The food is pretty good. We are not talking foodie level, just plain home cooking. Pizzas are good, great wings, sandwiches of all kinds, strombolis, salads, finger foods, all served in large portions at fair prices. They have full dinners too - lasagna, spaghetti, fried or baked fish, all great. They tried hard to make something I could eat that was vegan -- I got a nice pizza there all veg no cheese and salad. Nice selection of beers too. The place is clean, air conditioned and the staff is quick and friendly. Never had a bad meal or experience here, and will continue to patronize this nice neighborhood place. read more
