I'm not the biggest fan of Applebee's, just look at my other reviews for them in different locations. I use to be a fan, back when they had a kicking barbecue menu, then they started to rotate their menu and never had the same items on it again. How I miss that amazing barbecue. Recently I stopped over to my sister's house and we decided to order in from Applebee's. I wasn't superly excited to do so, but I went along with it. Quick look at the menu and I decided on Classic Broccoli Chicken Alfredo. Simple dish, comes with a bread stick, should be a decent sized portion. I also decided to order a basket of fries, as a just in case. Food arrives and I am not surprised one bit to see that the portion size if kind of small. Definitely feel like this portion size is way smaller than what you would get in house. They also must of left this under a heat lamp for a bit before being picked up for delivery. The chicken was awfully dry as well as a good portion of the pasta. Honestly, the only good parts about this was the broccoli and the bread stick. And if you mess up a bread stick, there is something seriously wrong with your establishment. As far as the basket of fries, it's more like a small or medium fry from a fast food place with just a bit more salty flavoring on them. If it hadn't been for my family ordering from here, I would not have gone out of my way to come here. It's lackluster food from a struggling chain. read more

The service was fantastic and we always had drinks! Our waitress asked us if we wanted anything and was attentive.. which was awesome. I ordered a margarita which was fanatic, as well as our combo appetizer which was soooooo good. I ordered the stuffed ravioli and was disappointed. The pasta was hard and chewy.. not what I was expecting so I was sad. It seemed as if it was overlooked or sat too long. But the appetizer, margarita and good service made up for it. Not a hugefan of this slop food chain. Ive never gotten a meal here that was either finger lickin or memorable. Ive trued a few steak selections. Chicken meals and even salads. Never got a meal that i said ill get that again. The food is prepared quickly. And it shows. The bar is pretty sweet here and they have a great drink menu. Also great happy hour specials. Service is usually good. Unless i get agift card or some other special deal im not coming here to feed. That being said its a great social meeting place with a huge TV. Great joint to grab an after work drink or to meet some friends to watch a sporting event. read more

The A1 Steak burger was dry, bland and overall an embarassment to cows. The onion straws were burned which gave the burger a sour taste. I ordered 'pink' and got well done. FAIL. The one star rating is more of description of my own judgement than Applebee's. After all, I knew the restaurant was crap and I ordered food anyway. It was alright for an applebee's. I enjoyed the nachos. Rather pricey for what we ordered, nachos, 2 adults and a child, no alcohol was $55. Eek! should've gone to Lone Star. This is probably the worst restaurant in the area. We very rarely go here, and the only reason why we did is for my daughter's birthday meal. The kids' meals were decent. They looked better than mine and my husband's meals. My my was bland. The baked potato was over baked and awful to taste. My husband got the riblets and they were burnt. We had to wait to get refills. At the other Applebee's in Ebensburg, they sing to the kids and give them ice cream. None of that happened here. The customer service was poor as well as the food. If you're looking for a good place to eat around the galleria, don't go here. Waste of time and money. read more

The service is horrible - downright horrible every time we go. When you go in with a group of 10 and they have one waited and split you up on tables but that one waiter still treats you like you're a group it's ridiculous we waited 20+ minutes to order and 20 for our drinks. I've been eating at Applebee's for many years, mostly on weekend afternoons and I sit with my friends and we catch up. Over the years the service has always been first rate -- mostly local Pitt students all eager and perky. I rarely drink alcohol there but the times I did they seemed ok (I felt it so there was alcohol in it). The food has undergone radical changes over the years, some of them trending healthy/good, some absolute disasters. I've never liked their desserts. It seems the majority of them are some kind of hot squishy chocolate lump or cake or something drowned in liquid chocolate or some kind of pie thing with a lump of cow milk ice cream and more chocolate. The chocolate isn't very tasty and afterwards you feel greasy and regretful that you just paid 6 bucks for that hot mess. I dined there a few weeks ago and found their menu had completely changed to a total carnivore menu -- some kind of seasonal promotion. When I asked for vegan choices I got a blank stare from the server. After checking in the kitchen, the best they could do was another lonely plain salad and being treated like a two headed extraterrestrial because I won't eat meat eggs or cheese (which seems to be on just about everything on the menu). I looked in the kitchen once, and like Chilis and similar places the food is thrown in a line of microwaves and dressed with a few fresh things before being served. I spoke to the manager and he told me they are not allowed to make any changes to their menu because they are franchised and inferred I should go elsewhere (indirectly). I intend to take his advice and never eat at an Applebee's again. read more

Dear God - Why do I keep doing this?? I must be a closet masochist... We have visited this restaurant several times over the last few years, and every time it gets a bit worse. Had lunch from the 2 for $20 menu on this trip. Bride got the Fiesta Lime Chicken. It came with a great mound of nearly inedible flavored rice that she didn't make a dent in. The chicken itself was not at all good. Lacking both in appearance and taste. The shredded baked tortillas they put over it didn't add anything to the experience. She didn't finish it. I had the American Standard Burger. The patty itself was properly done and tasty. But it was completely lacking the bacon, onion and pickles as advertised on the website. Don't know what was up with that. The dried out bun it rested on was mostly discarded in favor of a knife and fork. The fries were frankly, like something out of a TV dinner. On a positive note - the shared nachos and spinach dip were just as tasty as ever. The waitress was very nice. (Unfortunately, she was at the mercy of the kitchen staff. Still gave her a nice tip.) And no painful aftereffects were experienced from the visit. Hence the extra, mostly undeserved star.. ;O) I worked in food service when I was young, and I honestly don't understand how these places stay in business... The food is the standard for every similar kind of restaurant. The staff is very nice and always changes the tvs to a games I like. It had one appeal that we enjoyed but he is gone now. Justin Garman would play music there and he no longer does due to a managerial decision. I know he is the reason so many people came to this Applebee's. With so many places going with a DJ or radio music, it is refreshing to go to a place with good live music. It's too bad Johnstown has one less place to enjoy that. Fiance and I went Saturday with my son and his GF. There was a little wait, But it is a chain and it was a Saturday. So it was expected. We got the 2/$20 and a 2/$25. I got the weight watchers recommended Chicken something or other. Chicken, rice, veggies..... Fiance got the big mac and cheese with chicken thing. We had the artichoke and spinach dip with tortilla chips. Our dip was good. Not amazing. The chunks of artichoke were pretty large.. but not an issue. I. He had the strawberry lemonade. Tasted it, it was quite yummy. Waitress was quick refilling. I think I had 5 diet pepsis. :) Kids had buffalo wings. They finished them. Fiance finished most of his meal. I enjoyed my chicken and veggies. I kind of cut everything up and mixed. Chicken was tender and not dry. We went because we were thinking we were hungry for some sort of salad...but changed our minds. I'd go again... the food was fine and again...as expected- it's a chain people! This is a chain restaurant ,food is average to below average. The chain over the last few years quality of food has been going downhill probably to try to keep prices down. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat at this restaurant the only way I went there was with a gift certificate .Sitting by the receptionists was a extra bonus as we got to here all the servers complaining about customers. With that going on they should have paid me to eat there. If you want average food that's over priced this is the place for you. 2 star might be a little generous read more
