Good pub grub and beer, a must stop every time we're in the Johnstown area. My wife's family is from the area (I am not) and they will tell you this long-winded spiel about how the wings here are like the original "Haven" wings blah blah blah.... the food here is good enough to stand on its own, extensive background story or no. Jumbo wings are a classic staple which my wife will eat here then take a dozen home to eat cold tomorrow. They are good and tasty and unlike wings I've had anywhere else. The Reuben sandwich is usually my go-to, it's large and flavorful with quality ingredients and really thick-sliced bread. Good selection of beers but no Iron City (kinda surprising?). Give this place a try it's worth it. I'm sure I'll be back next time I'm in the area. read more

We decided to try this place out while getting some Christmas shopping done. After all - it's right in the mall so worth a shot. What a pleasant experience it was! The place is packed with televisions which is great for sports minded people like me! The food is very reasonably priced and the menu offers great variety as well. My Wife had the fish sandwich which was huge & I had the Reuben which was also very large. The beer batter fries are a worthy add on and it was quickly served. We eat at Jake's often - the atmosphere is casual and the food is tremendous! My favorite is the Hawaiian burger with beer-battered fries. This is a place that asks how you want your burger done - so you know it's legit. They have great wings - regular, boneless and full wings to boot! I've had excellent salads here, too - love the peppercorn ranch dressing. We've always had friendly wait staff and solid service. I guess this is a simple review, but it's simply a great place! This is a pretty solid bar style restaurant! They had a lot of menu options and many things that looked great. The burgers and sandwiches were good, the fries were awesome and they can add different seasonings to them which were good. The salad was average, probably wouldn't get one again. Good food but terrible takeout service. I've had multiple occasions where the wait time is insane. tonight I was told 35 minutes and the food would be done at 6:15. At 7pm I left after waiting for 45 minutes without any food. I'll never be ordering takeout again and may never return. First off let me say that this particular location has been through many changes before settling on what it is now. It started out as a Ground Round when the mall first opened way back when, eventually becoming a Dingbats briefly and now we settle on Jake's. I have been to this mall on several occasions and would always walk past this location. You see, where it is located is kind of a dead zone in this mall. No stores particularly around this spot and Italian Oven right across the way from it always seem to draw me there making me forget about Jake's. Also it is basically a through way to the exit, so you kind of are either on your way out or rushing in. Also this mall is not known for it dazzling food court/food offerings, I was just there the other day and there are only three food places in the food court (four if you count Auntie Anne's hovering near the escalators). Anyway, it was a family outing day and the decision to come here for food was basically made for me, I wasn't going to argue because this would be a new place for me to try and you have to be open to those chances that come your way. Let us get the bad part about this out of the way right now, and this is the only reason I am dinging them, The wait time to be seated. There are two entrances for Jake's, one from the mall concourse and one from outside. We chose to come in the mall concourse entrance, but upon entry there is no sign to let you know whether to wait to be seated or seat your self. When we found out it was a seat yourself type of day that is when we ran into a little bit of turbulence if you will. At this time there was not a table available to accommodate us, so we had to wait until some were cleaned and rearranged. We also almost made the mistake of going into the adjacent room. Here is where it is weird. The adjacent room, for a majority of the time, sits unused. It is basically their banquet/party room. I have seen birthday parties and painting parties in there, but never just someone casually dining. To me this is a waste of usable space, if you are busy this should be used as an overflow area to seat your hungry guests. I know you rent the space out, but for a one-year-old birthday party you do not need the whole room. OK, end that rant and let's move on. When we were finally seated and menus in hand everything went smoothly. Our server, Candice (sorry if I am misspelling your name), was amazing. In our chit chat she had mentioned that she was a nurse and you could see that coming through by here taking very good care of us and remembering everything we asked for, she was delightful and made for a very good experience here. When I say that the portion size here is generous, I am not being generous by using the word generous. The portion size here is outrageous, but in a good way. I opted for a Southwest Burger meal and got a mojito to indulge myself. The mojito was spot on and I enjoyed it. But the star of the meal was the burger. A huge beef patty topped with cheddar, bacon, onion straws and barbecue sauce. The patty was juicy and seasoned perfectly, cheese melted over it nicely and the bacon cooked just right. The onion straws were like onion rings that didn't want to be connected, because they were thicker than your average onion straw, but obviously not round like an onion ring, it was more like an onion petal. Every bite was like having a southwestern party in my mouth. It was perfect bun to patty ratio, no excess bread here. I had asked for my fries to have a dusting of ranch on them, but I could not tell either way if they were actually seasoned or not. The other picture I have here is of the "kid's menu" grilled cheese. That thing was huge enough to make me full let alone a small child. Great options for them to pick from as well. Great experience here and we had not trouble splitting the check at the end. Definitely will be back here. read more

This place needs to re-evaluate it's Covid plans. We had a reservation for 5:30pm. It took 15 minutes for someone to even come to the hostess station to seat us. We sat for another 15 minutes until I had to call another tables waitress over to get us a waiter. She said they "forgot" about us. We placed our order as soon as the waitress came over after looking up menus online because we never got them. It took an hour and fifteen minutes to get our food. We never got refills. Half of the orders were wrong. 10/10 don't recommend. read more

I have eaten there twice. Very slow but friendly service. The food was decent with very large portions at a reasonable cost. Above average selection of beer on tap for this area. Dining area is slightly drab but does not feel crowded. Nearly every table was used during my visit. Could use better lighting and an updated "feel". No real identity about the place except huge portions. My first visit I had the Reuben which was above average. The second time I had the Cheese steak which was nicely done for this area. A decent place to relax and have a meal if you are at the mall but if you are looking to get your food fast...consider the food court. read more

And the the perfect compliment after a grueling workout. Love the craft beers and the specials. Of utmost importance is they have my Guiness on tap!! CRUCIAL!!!!! Love Friday happy hour cause its from 2-6. Can get your drink on early The food is the story here. They dont have a large selective menu but thats awesome to me bc what they do they do well!!!! Several of my go tos are grilled steak salad. The vegetables always crisp and fresh. And the steak is an actual steak not chipped or shaved steak of poor quality. Which i hate. The dressings are all homemade and that adds so much flavor and takes it to the top of my list. The wings are to die for here. My favorite grilled cajun buffalo are cooked to perfection and combine a grilled and fried technique to wing preparation. Love them!!!! And the pizza is like no other bc of its uniquely thin crust. Almost tortilla thin. The cheese and toppings are superior and the thin crust allows you to shave a few calories so you can drink more beer!!!! Have been to Jakes multiple times and almost as many times for takeout and all I can say is that its very consistent which is getting harder and harder to find these days. The food quality is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere is very clean and inviting. Everytime that I go there they are getting new craft beers on tap so there's always a nice selection. The staff is always friendly and will even change the TVs on request. Do yourself a favor and try the wings as they always come out perfect and then try the Reuben...its massive! read more

Came here a month ago and order the fried fish. It was absolutely delicious. The breading was very well seasoned and the fish itself was so moist. I also got a specialty mixed drink which was also done very well: it was a Irish hot cocoa I believe. Either way the whole experience was good here. Horrible dining experience. Where do I begin? Despite calling in a reservation, we were given THE most horrendous seat, in a cafeteria-style room, looking out at an empty mall. I'm out to enjoy myself and to forget about the world for a moment, but what do I find? A broadcast of the news about homicides and killings while I'm trying to enjoy myself. Our waitress was non-existant as I ended up relying on another waitress for all of our requests. Our appetizer came out without little plates. Our waitress was no where to be found so I had to ask another waitress for little plates. The appetizer required cutting, so once again, our waitress was no where to be found, so I had to ask another waitress for a knife. Our food came out, and they completely forgot my son's order. We waited and waited and waited. Finally, since our non-existant waitress wasn't around, I asked another waitress to follow up on my son's order. Much later, they brought out a DUPLICATE of MY order and not my son's order. My son was starving at this point so we said "fine, serve it." Not ONCE during our experience did the non-existant waitress come out and ask how our food was or how my son liked his messed up order that he was subjected to eat because he was so hungry. When my son's order was forgotten, they thought they forgot MY order, so they brought out a RUSHED, GREESY version of my order. I was NEVER once asked how we are doing or how our food was. Jakes is very good! We've been several times and always leave happy. However we have always had to wait for a table and I don't mean 10-20 mins.. normally 45 mins to a hour for a table especially on a weekend for dinner. Which basically means the place has great food! Just ordered the build your own burger special on Monday and it was very good. Burger cooked your way. I like medium. It was very juicy and humongous. The side of beer battered fries were crisp and tasty. Cannot beat the price for the amount of food you get. My buddy couldn't even finish his burger because he was too full. I would definitely go back to eat here and recommend it. Maybe next time for dinner so I could have a couple of the awesome beers they have on draft. read more
