Chili's is everything wrong with food culture in the US: corporatized, manufactured, soulless. And existing--even thriving--in all corners of the country. My to-go order was a "Cajun chicken pasta party tray," chips, red salsa, queso blanco, and garlic toasts--which I consumed over three days. Thus, I became scarily familiar to the freaky taste and made myself a lab mouse (for the good of all Yelp users, obviously). The chips, salsa, queso blanco, and toasts were passable. They added a star to this critique. Here's the most-appropriate way to sum up that mutant chicken pasta: Cajun; pasta; green onions; "pico de gallo styled" tomatoes. OR "French; Italian; Asian; Mexican." Hell, even the Frankenstein monster would've been envious! This was my first Chili's meal in at least a decade. But nothing had changed, and maybe things had degenerated further. This place is FILTHY. We walked in around 4:30. The place was almost empty. No hostess. Server came by a few times and told us she would be back to seat us. After about 10 minutes, she came and told us we could sit in the bar, and if we did, she would "just get to us whenever she could". In fairness, the place is understaffed, so I'll say that up front. On the other hand, I saw two tables of two people in the place, so it was EMPTY. We sat down where she seated us, to weigh our options. The table was filthy, sticky, gummy. We looked for some napkins at the bar, and there weren't any. We looked around and saw just how disgustingly nasty the place was and we left. WHERE IS THE MANAGER? Most important thing - is the place needs to be cleaned. We were there at 11:00am when it opened. The floors were dirty - hallway to bathrooms were nasty, and the bathrooms haven't been cleaned. Walked in shortly after they opened, and to wait a few minutes to be greeted. They didn't want to put us at a larger table for our party of 7 - but finally agreed to put tow table together. By far one of the best establishments I've been to in a long time. From the moment i entered the door I was met with friendly staff. The appetizer was incredible. The salsa tasted like it came straight from an authentic Mexican restaurant. We of course ordered the chili's special, the fajitas. They were chilicious. The skillet cookie was accompanied with THE best ice cream in town, rumor has it comes from a local farm called bell blue! Finally Chili's came in hot with karaoke! Ordered take out for dinner online. Texted the number when we arrived and the sign outside said a staff member would be with us shortly. After waiting almost 20 minutes we went inside to find our food sitting on the counter with the staff member standing there on her phone. Her reply was sorry we are under staffed didn't realize you were outside. Chili's with friends again. My approach to places such as this is that I simply do not go if I can help it. What this means is that the only time I ever do go to one of these chain restaurants, it is because I am with a group and they have decided to go there. It isn't that I think the food is bad, but I like to support the local places first, and with local places you tend to get more interesting dishes. Chain restaurants are "safe", but that also means "not interesting". So be it. They also have a place in the world, so I am not counting that against them. Suffice to say, in order for a place like this to get more than three stars they have to do something pretty spectacular. Anyways, that out of the way, let me regale you with my latest experience at this particular Chili's. The last time I was here, it was over a year ago, and that was not a pleasant experience. Let's get this right out of the way and state that this experience was much better! The food was better, it came out after an appropriate amount of time, and I enjoyed it a lot more. We were seated in a reasonable amount of time for the level of business going at the time. As a party of five it makes things a bit harder for them to seat us since larger tables are not as readily available, but there really was no wait at all. My group first ordered some drinks, and though I am not usually a drinker, I decided to give a shot with one of the specialty margaritas. Unfortunately, the waiter came back after a minute stating that they were out of the syrup used for my particular order (and another one of us). The other flavors were available, which was ordered by our other person, but I decided at that time to go with an Amaretto Sour. It was two-for-one drinks, so I got two of them, which was actually perfect for me along with some water. For my meal, I wanted to keep it light, so I ordered the wings. Others ordered other things, and once the food was prepared it came out, all at a reasonable time. One of the salads had onions on it when it should not have (kitchen's mistake) but otherwise it was all fine. My wings (at the hottest level) actually had a good kick to them (I like them insanely spicy), so I was pleased with that. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals, and we had a good time talking while we sat there. So all in all, this experience, after a year of not eating here, was significantly better than last time, and I will happily upgrade my rating. read more

Steaks smelled and tasted SPOILED. Chips were stale. Chicken texture was like mush. Black beans were cold. Flour tortillas were sticking together and very unpleasant. Have to say, we live near West Palm & have 2 Chili's to choose from, but never go because the food is meh & the service worse. This Chili's was spot on! We had an amazing waitress, who actually asked if I'd like another beer instead of me having to hunt her down to order one. Very refreshing! The chips & queso are our go to & were exactly as we love! I got the rib eye, medium, & when it came out, the waitress asked me to cut into it to make sure it was as I ordered! WoW! This has never happened at the Chili's by us! Very impressive! Held up to all the amazing standards that Chili's sets for itself. The 2 for $25 deal is always amazing and invites dining with friends and big groups. As always, the skillet cookie was delicious. Towards the end of our dinner, service kind of fell off a bit. Our server somewhat disappeared, and our check wasn't appearing on the tablet device, so we had to flag our server down to get the check. Once she was notified, however, we were quick to get it. I've stopped here twice since I moved to Gainesville, and I have not been disappointed. The waitress we had last night was attentive and fast. She was knowledgeable as well, which was great. We had a few questions and she didn't make us feel rushed or like we were being annoying. The food and drinks came out fast and were delicious. The 2 for 1 cocktails were a perfect 4th of July drink, and there were plenty of options. I tried the Southwestern burger, with fried onion petals and bacon. It was messy, but so satisfying. I asked for a medium rare burger and got exactly that. Bravo to the chefs! It's not often I ask for medium rare and get that instead of well done. My only complaint would be that the chips (We ordered chips and salsa) had batches that were stuck together and under cooked. However the chips that were done were salty and a perfect salsa pairing. The bartender/server in the bar section is responsible for way too many customers. When the bar is filling up, they have to make drinks for all the other servers and they have multiple tables of their own it's impossible to give good service. And then the hostess and food runner don't help out at all... (which may not be in their job description) but somethings got to change with how they run the front AND back of house. Our nachos came out without pico or sour cream so it was literally cheese chicken and jalapeños... no one checked on us (our server was way too busy I don't fault him) . Then, when the food runner/expo brings our entrees I finally was able to tell someone about our issue with the nachos but honestly it was too late. They were already soggy and my entree was here so... She really didn't offer any solution but removing them from the table (they were barely eaten) but we still had to pay for them. I doubt she even told our server what happen. Never saw a manager present either to ensure tables were being taken care of. A server needs to come off the floor and split the bar section with the bartender or this is what you'll get... We were also sat at a dirty table but that wasn't a big deal to me initially. Worst chilis service experience by far ! The server was very forgetful and "misheard" many items we ordered. Once receiving the bill we were charged for items not ordered and up charged for items without our knowledge. She had the tablet open to the pay part leaving us to not notice these things until after paying. I highly advice to make sure you double check your receipt before paying ! read more

Updated review: in the words of the late great Dr. Maya Angelou "When people show you who they are, believe them the first time". I should have never given Chili's a second chance. On Saturday, I checked the mail and saw that Chili's had mailed me a $20 gift card to apologize for my previous experience (noted above) and give the restaurant a second chance. I didn't feel like cooking so we went for dinner. This is where all of my best judgement goes flying out the door. My husband and I go there for dinner. Service was fine. We sat in the bar area, no poopy smell (albeit, it wasn't the end of the night like the time before and they weren't doing cleanup). The next morning, I woke up and my stomach is doing convulsions in church. Why did I trust a salad at a place that previously smelled like poop? The salad greens were likely tainted (one of the most common causes of food poisoning), meaning that they are not practicing sanitary kitchen conditions. I've had food poisoning in the past and recognized all the signs. I'm writing this on Monday because Sunday consisted of my body struggling to digest the salad, alternating between nausea, fever and chills. My stomach was torn up. The thought of food makes me nauseous. The smell of dinner makes me want to vomit. What a wonderful way to spend Mother's Day. Sick in bed and can't keep anything down. This place was horrible. I ordered a crispy chicken, bacon, avocado sandwich. The chicken was anything but crispy. More like it had been fried and then soaked in water. The bacon was almost non existant and there was no avocado. After I said something about it the waitress said the avocado looked bad so they didn't put it on. I should have been told that and I would have gotten another sandwich. It comes with fries but I never did get mine. She didn't come back to see if everything was ok. Went for lunch on a weekday at Noon. The place wasn't at full capacity but the service was terrible. The waitress kept bringing the wrong food, I never did get my 2nd item off the "choose 2" menu, and we had to beg another waitress for our checks. From start to finish was around an hour 15 minutes for a "quick" business lunch. I'd rate the food, but I only got half of mine and I had to get it "to go" so it was cold and stale by the time I opened the box at my desk to cram it down. I have been here twice (in two days), as well as a to go order a few months ago. The to-go order was pretty good, obviously the food tasted good but the temperature was off, as to be expected. However, this review was about the 2 seated occasions. Both of the times I was with my boyfriend. The service has never failed and I always had a nearly full drink. Both of the times we got chips and salsa (as per a free reward through the Chili's Rewards), and it was probably the best salsa I've had, since I do not like spicy food. And the chips were perfect both times, although a bit colder the second time. The first time I got the Caribbean Salad with Grilled Chicken, and my boyfriend got the Ultimate Bacon Burger. He was amazed with his food and thought it tasted absolutely wonderful with no complaints, although he wishes you got more fries. My salad was absolutely amazing too, the salad dressing was delicious, and I loved the pieces of manderin oranges, although I wish there was more pineapple in the dish. We did not have a long wait time, on a pandemic Friday night. My husband and I ordered salads. He had the chicken Caesar and I had quesadilla explosion. His was ok, but mine was disappointing. I put Chili's, Friday's and Applebee's all in the same category. If I have to pick 1st 2nd and 3rd It used to be Friday's 1st, but I've changed my order. I think Chili's has really improved their game. Just did lunch there and got the soup and salad special. What I really liked was their selection of soups. This place is hit or miss, but we have surely had more hits than misses!!!! Hit on dining in, Miss on take out. Favorite and must have meal: Honey-Chipotle Crispy Chicken Crispers. Service: 4 out of 5 The servers are very attentive and nice. Only once in probably 50 times going have we had bad service, granted it was incredibly busy that evening. They are very good about making sure you are happy with you meal and your drinks are filled, at the same time not over crowding you with "how is everything?" Environment: 3 1/2 out of 5 Very clean dining area, plenty of TV's to look at with multiple programs on, the bar has a separate dining area than casual dining. Interesting decor and warm colors throughout. Also clean restrooms. Like any other average sit down restaurant, sometimes you go and will be surrounded by other guest who want to sit down and have a nice chill meal, which in turn makes your meal with your family/friends more enjoyable. Other times, you are surrounded by guest who decided to bring their entire flock of small children in that have obviously never been disciplined in their life, which makes your meal hard to enjoy because you can't hear yourself think. I have children so I know how it is to have a toddler who decides to throw a tantrum at the worst possible time. I assure you, I handle the situation because it is disrespectful to be the reason another guest may not enjoy their experience. Dining in food: 4 1/2 out of 5 Not once have I dined in and had a bad meal here. They always make the food how I have asked it to be prepared. It's always warm and taste very good. The portions are perfect for any appetite. Only once I have gotten a cold corn on the cob, but they had no issue bringing me a fresh, perfect temperature awesome tasting corn on the cob. Take out food: 2 out of 5 Every time we get take out, it is like we are ordering from a completely different restaurant. It's almost like they give you the rejected food and throw it all together. I would not recommend ever getting their take out as it has never hit the mark for me or my family. We thought maybe we waited to long to pick it up, so I went there immediately after ordering once and still had to wait 5 minutes. I took this as being good considering our food would be fresh. Myself and 2 others waited 15 mins to get a server wasn't even our server just for ice teas. The girl that finally did take care of us could not saying sorry ever 5 mins even during or meal like enough already. The restaurant was dirty food was nothing to cheer about. But what got me the most is both sinks in woman's restroom had blue tan across them so you couldn't wash hands during cov so how are the workers practicing good hygiene?? WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE, INACCURATE ORDERS, PRETTY GOOD FOOD I used to come to this Chili's on a weekly basis but I had taken a break for a little over a month. In the past, I loved Chili's! My biggest complaints were that they put too much ice in the drinks so that I would get two sips in and the drink would be gone and I would wait an abnormally long time for Curb Side pickup. But overall, not too bad and I loved the prices. However my experience tonight was so negative I will not be going back in a long time if ever... For me, customer service is what makes bad experiences forgivable. I've been to other Chili's where there was hair in my food, but they were so polite, I continued to go back. I don't know what happened to this location, but in the pickup area I waited 30+minutes for my order. I saw one previous customer check their order that had items missing. I had the same situation and wasted at least an hour just trying to get a meal from Chili's. When I got home, I realized one full meal was missing, one of the drinks, and half of another meal ALL MISSING. Now I would normally catch such large errors but I was picking up orders for other people and didn't think the errors would be too bad. Normally I would shrug it off, but it was HALF OF THE ORDER. To make matters more sad, it was the meal for my birthday (so that was a huge downer). I went back to retrieve the missing items. I had to flag down someone, they all seemed to be avoiding me and either ignored me. When I finally did manage to get someone, she knew part of my meal was missing and was not apologetic but suggested I speak to the manager... all I wanted was to get the rest of my order! Perhaps it's their policy but I didn't care to complain, I was upset and just wanted the missing items. I definitely was not in my best mood considering the long wait and ridiculous amounts missing (I'd expect this from McDonalds but not Chili's). When I told her all of the items missing, she questioned me and said only x was missing when I had multiple items not there. When they gathered the food they sat it down on the table without notifying me and the manager came and asked if I had been helped. She was very polite, got me a new drink (since it had been an hour and the soda likely was diluted at this point) and sent me on my way. When I got in the car, I realized they STILL did not fulfill the order (the part they remembered they had forgotten). I'm not sure if it was a petty move or I was sent out prematurely. I didn't care at that point. So much for a happy birthday. Hopefully this was just a fluke, but the customer service and speed don't warrant going back. I am giving 2 stars because in the past I moderately enjoyed my experiences but this experience is hardly forgivable. Also, it smelled atrocious inside (I don't remember it smelling that bad in the past) but I was a little grossed out. We enjoyed a quick lunch of chili & salad and carefully did NOT touch the enticing little screen-y device on the table. The chili was meaty and good, though it benefited from additional hot sauce. Salad was basically frisée lettuce, period - won't order that again. Spouse had fries, which were very good, hot, apparently locally cut, nicely served in a little metal cup with paper lining. I've never had a bad experience at Gainesville's local Chili's! I've always had great service. My favorite things to get are the Bacon Avocado Chicken Sandwich (which comes with fries) and the Honey Chipotle Chicken Crispers (which comes with corn on the cob and fries). If you join their rewards program (which is free), you also get free chips and salsa on every visit which is fantastic! They have Ziosks for payment, which makes the whole checkout process smooth and easy.
