If you're reading this review and still looking for a place to eat, you can stop. The search is over. Chiho is always good and always delicious. It is probably busy unless you come a little off hours but it's worth a wait. There's also a few bar seats for good measure. I have never had trouble getting a reservation with some forethought. This week we walked in on Thursday for dinner during restaurant week with no issue or wait. The staff is always attentive and the food comes out right away. It's a great spot if you are anywhere nearby and worth the walk if not. If it's restaurant week, their meal for two provides a great cross-section of the menu for a great price. Honestly, in my opinion, it might be the best value during SRW for the last three years running. The quality of food and flavor has never disappointed. I have a hard time eating somewhere else when I'm nearby. It's my go-to spot in Belltown for sure. Whether you want some modern Chinese food or have a hankering for better soup dumplings, Chiho Bistro is the spot. The soup dumplings are impressively thin with flavorful soup, the spice level of the hot dishes leaves your lips tingling but isn't too hot, and the Cucumber & Wood-Ear Salad is a paradox of simplicity within its complexity of flavor. Ask me if I like this place... I could go on.
My bf and I loved coming here, especially during Seattle Restaurant Week, which we've done for the past few years. We've always had a great experience, and left satisfied and stuffed. This last visit was not as great experience as usual. We had made a reservation, but when we got there, they did not have our reservation. They had to just add us to their waiting list, and they were really busy. We waited for at least 20 minutes before we got seated. We ordered the Seattle Restaurant Week's 4-course for $50. We got the Crab & Pork Soup Dumplings, Szechuan Chili Oil Wontons, Black Truffle Wagyu Egg Fried Rice (for an additional $5), and Black Pepper Wagyu Sirloin. My bf received his Sapporo right after we ordered, and we got the fried rice literally a minute after we ordered. Then our Black Pepper Wagyu Sirloin came out 5 minutes after. I didn't want to start eating the fried rice or Black Pepper Wagyu Sirloin yet, because I wanted some chili oil for it, but no one came around for me to ask. Waiting for 10 minutes until I was able to get someone's attention. We started on the food we had, and then our third item, the Szechuan Chili Oil Wontons came. We were more than halfway done with our food when our soup dumplings finally came. And this was 10 minutes after we got our Szechuan Chili Oil Wontons and a little over 30 minutes after we got our fried rice. And they did not give us the vinegar and ginger condiment bowl with the soup dumplings, which I saw the table next to us got theirs. We had wanted to add the truffle cauliflower to our order, but didn't want to risk a long wait. And we had wanted to try their Honey Walnut Prawns, but they were out of it, which is why we chose the Black Pepper Wagyu Sirloin for our entrée. But they must've not have been out for too long, because when a new couple sat at the table next to us, I heard them order the Honey Walnut Prawns, but they were not told it was out. And when the check came, I was charged for the soju cocktail I ordered in the beginning that I never received.
This is the second time I've eaten at this restaurant. As with the first time, I was really impressed. My wife, son and I ordered the chicken soup dumplings, wagyu beef dumplings, scallops and pork dumplings, crab and pork dumplings, and stir-fried broccoli. All the dumpling dishes were delicious and well-prepared. The broccoli was excellent with fresh, crispy broccoli. As for the question of whether the soup dumplings are as good as Din Tai Fung, I would say they are on par but different. I really liked the chili sauce used here. The stylish decor of the restaurant intersperses a rich red color with white walls and a black ceiling. The vibe is relaxed and pleasant. Our waitress was very friendly and efficient and changed out our plates before we had our last dumpling dish. That a nice touch.. It was a really good dining experience.
We came here for dinner with some friends when we were visiting Seattle. Our friends suggested it because they had good vegetarian options. We were able to make reservations, and were seated right away when we got there for our reservations. The place was full. The place has a contemporary vibe. We offer a variety of food to share. I didn't get to have any of the dumpling because my kid ate it all. I guess they were good. I thought the rest of the food was good, but not amazing. It's a good option for Chinese food with decent vegetarian options.
The truffle soup dumpling is the best soup dumpling I've ever had, which is saying a lot because I've been on a journey to try every dumpling house in the area. The dumplings are so fresh and soupy. They bring out dipping sauce but to be honest it takes away from the delicious truffle flavor so try at least one on its own. The cucumber wood ear mushroom salad is a bit spicier than most places I've tried but it's not a bad thing! I really like the seasoning that they use to marinate the cucumber. I would 100% recommend both dishes. The only bad thing about this place is the parking it's a bit of a fight to find a spot in the area but I think the food is well worth it
We came across the Seattle restaurant week menu and just had to try it. It was $50 for two people. We happened to go on the first day of restaurant week so luckily we made a reservation because it got a bit busier around dinner time. The wontons were good, but the chili sauce was the star. It was numbing and a little minty feeling. It was really great over the fried rice, which didn't stand out to me but was good to pair the dishes with. The crab and pork soup dumplings were sooo tasty, I would definitely get them again. The prawns we got were also great, I really enjoyed the crunchy coating and extras that came with it. I really enjoyed the space and food, I will definitely be coming back!
We came here for lunch the other day and the food was absolutely fantastic! Pros: + Fish Blossom - cooked to perfection. The perfect thing to halt the sweet and spicey cravings + Tons of vegan options - they do not have a special vegan menu printer, but they can make a lot of their dishes plant based. Take a look online at their vegan section + Friendly Service + Reasonable Parking Cons: NA IG: AndTheNextAdventureBegins
Great ambiance for this restaurant! Inside is very nicely decorated. It's also very clean and organized and has nice lighting. It would be a nice place for a date or a celebration. Unfortunately, the food was pretty average to me. We had their chow mein and fried rice and both were only okay. To be honest, their fried rice was one of my least favorite Chinese fried rice I tried in Seattle. The amount of protein was very small too. Maybe just 2 oz of meat? The fried rice was decently salty and overcooked/moist. I liked the chow mein more. It was tasty and sweet and the prawns were soft and fresh. The service was good. The server answered any questions we had and the food didn't take long to make.
**I FOUND A LARGE DEAD COCKROACH IN MY FRIED RICE AFTER I'D ALREADY STARTED EATING.** **TO THE OWNER OF CHIHO BISTRO: WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT THIS? HAVE YOU INVESTIGATED THE COCKROACH PROBLEM YOUR OWN EMPLOYEE REPORTED HAVING FOR THREE MONTHS? WHAT STEPS ARE YOU TAKING TO PROTECT YOUR CUSTOMERS?** I visited Chiho Bistro on October 7 and had one of the most disturbing restaurant experiences of my life. I immediately spat out the food and rushed to the restroom gagging after discovering the cockroach. Two servers and the chef witnessed it. While I was in the restroom, the plate was removed before I could preserve the evidence. Even more concerning, a server told me the restaurant had been experiencing cockroach problems for approximately three months. I cannot independently verify that statement, but hearing it from an employee was extremely alarming. What made this experience even worse was the manager Luke's response. He wasn't present and told me he wouldn't return for another two days. When I asked a server on speakerphone whether he had witnessed the cockroach, the server clearly said yes. Luke then told him not to say anything. I found Luke's attitude incredibly rude, dismissive, and completely lacking in accountability. The written acknowledgment I later received referred to my complaint merely as a "foreign object" in the fried rice. I've attached the relevant correspondence. The servers themselves were polite and respectful. My concern is with the serious food safety incident and how management handled it. **TO THE OWNER: ARE YOU AWARE OF HOW YOUR MANAGER HANDLED THIS? WHY WAS THERE NOBODY ON-SITE WITH THE AUTHORITY TO ADDRESS SUCH A SERIOUS INCIDENT? WHAT CONCRETE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS HAVE YOU TAKEN?** This is a serious food safety concern that deserves a transparent response, not a generic apology. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution others against dining here until these concerns have been properly investigated and addressed.
Dumplings and Sichuan cuisine together! Win win !! Loved the food and the vibe. Everything was super tasty and delicious. Chicken soup dumplings were the best. Service was good too. Lots of variety for vegan and vegetarian folks. Definitely recommend.
We've come here twice and had a great time both times! If you're looking for a Taiwanese place with dishes similar to Din Tai Fung but more affordable, more authentic, and less pretentious, Chiho is definitely your place. Their mixed basket xiaolongbao is super fun and all the flavors were great, but you can't go wrong with the classic pork. The beef noodle soup is my personal favorite, but the Dan Dan noodles were probably a close second. Definitely a place people should check out, whatever you order I'm sure you'll have a good time
Atmosphere: a really pretty decorated little spot in downtown Seattle. Service: fast and friendly service Food: our group wanted to try just throw everything on the menu so we try to get a large variety of everything. The only thing that was out was the roasted duck and that was kind of disappointing, but we were able to get just about everything else we wanted. We really liked all the stirfry and the fish dish and all the buns. They even had vegetarian options, though I would not recommend the vegetarian options if I was not a vegetarian. The noodle dishes were all really yummy as well. I think the highlight was the fried fish dish.
I have frequented Chiho a couple of times but this is by far the best visit. Kaka our server was amazing with recommendations and the service. Right at open they were extremely busy so you know this place is good! They have everything you could want on a menu so there is something for everyone. What we got and the combination was so good, no notes. Get this exact order Crab rangoons (with real crab!!) Mixed basket of dumplings Roasted duck Typhoon friend prawns (crunchy garlic + onion heaven) Dan Dan noodles Green beans 100% will be back, portion sizes were amazing and made great leftovers!

Amazing to hear this. That peppercorn flavor balance is what we’re…
An elevated and fun take on Chinese cookery. High quality ingredients with a unique spin on some regional Chinese dishes. While the Hot Sour Soup was no different than your local Chinese restaurant, the Dan Dan noodles had an authentic (Ma La) mouth feel. Gyoza dumplings were house made and nice. The Typhoon Shelter Fried Prawns避风塘大虾 was great but the presentation could use an update. read more

Greasy food, sticky tables. Abominable beef scallion pancake wrap. I do not recommend. Din Tai Fung, Supreme Dumpling, and Dough Zone are far superior. We ordered: Cucumber salad: Ok, acceptable. The cucumbers were a bit limp, but edible. Beef scallion pancake wrap: A joke. The "pancake" tasted more like a stale, sad whole wheat tortilla from a cafeteria. The sauce was sweet and insipid, the meat chewy. I love scallion pancake wraps, so I was quite dismayed. Dandan noodles: Not bad, exceedingly greasy however. I have never had dandan noodles before, maybe that's normal for them. Typhoon shelter beef short ribs: Tasty, but greasy and not very much meat. Tasted kind of sloppy, for lack of a better word. read more

This is the BEST Chinese and Cantonese style restaurant I've had in Seattle. I lived in Seattle for almost a decade and I currently live in Bay Area - they do an amazing job with the flavor, quality and pairing. I couldn't stop thinking about this restaurant I first tried in July and made sure to stop by on my next visit. The curry brisket was SPOT on in terms of tenderness, spice and flavor. Many HK cafes undercook the potatoes and it tastes bland but not here - it absorbed all the curry brisket flavor. The typhoon short ribs were also incredibly well seasoned and fall off the bone tender. My favorite is the Hk roast duck which was flavorful and juicy. Usually the breast meat lacks moisture and taste as all the seasoning is on the skin but not here! It is perfect here and on par with HK bistros in HK. I am also extremely particular about my rice since I visited Thailand and this place uses high quality grain AND cooked it perfectly. I felt compelled to attach a photo of it! The rice quality and cooking method and cooker makes a huge difference. Highly recommend this place and can't wait to come back again next time!! The wait staff was also orderly, attentive and polite. I saw people ordering to go and recommend dining in. read more

What a great find! Went for a walk and decided to give this place a try. It was kind of early so still very quiet. Had the Happy Hour special of Mala Spicy Soup Dumplings and Dan Dan Chili Oil Noodles. Man is this good! Warning, it is a touch spicy, but I like spicy foods. The dumplings were excellent, but I might like the noodles just a little more. I also had a Chinese beer I have never had before called Snow, it went very well with the spiciness of the meal. I came in early to try the place during happy hour, so I cannot say how they are when busy. During this early time the wait staff was very attentive, checking on me and the few other tables, but not being annoying. I will definitely be back to this place, definitely recommend giving it a try, I am glad I did. read more

Chiho bistro is not a restaurant that caters to Asians looking for a hole in the wall traditional restaurant, but I actually really like it. It feels like a local elevated chinese restaurant that serves similar dishes to din tai fung with mala and truffle flavors. My friends found some of the dishes salty, but I did not mind. I like that their soup dumplings have unique flavors. If it was closer to me, I could find myself going there more often, but it's located farther south for my preference. The aesthetic of the restaurant is so cute and would make a nice date spot. read more

Looking for delicious Chinese food? This place definitely delivered! Everything was so tasty. My favorites were the wontons in chili oil and black pepper wagyu beef. Great service too! We were checked on throughout the meal and were very happy we ended up here. The place was clean, wasn't overly crowded and we were seated right away. Will definitely stop by again next time I'm in Seattle! read more

Food and ambiance was really nice. It was our first time and all in the group were vegetarians, so it was so great to see many vegan options. Service was good as well. We ordered many vegan items: Vegetable potstickers - 4/5 Vegan wonton - 5/5 Dan dan noodles - 4/5 Mapo tofu - 3.5/5 - little bit oily but decent. Its soft tofu in this dish. Vegan Soup dumplings - 4/5 Black truffle vegan rice - 4/5 We would definitely come back again. read more

so yum! my party and i came on a friday night and needless to say, had to wait 2 hours for a table through yelp's waitlist so we were seated around 8 pm. luckily food came out super quickly. we ordered the seattle restaurant week menu which came with 5 dishes for $65, which was such a steal! the truffle fried rice was delicious, and i also loved the crab and pork dumplings. it tasted so much like bun rieu, which is one of my fav viet dishes. dan dan noodles were also fire, and i like how the noodles are a bit skinnier. chiho has some of the thickest honey walnut prawns ive had, and there's so much batter on each shrimp. super crispy (almost too crispy? lol) but still delish. love the variety of the menu and will def come back, next time with a reservation hehe. read more

Love hearing this. The Hot & Sour soup and Taipei Three Cup Basil…
Food : I ordered chicken chowmein and crab Rangoon (real crab, not imitation) that tasted nice. However the pork dumplings and kung pao chicken didn't hit the sweet spot. Service: The lady who served us was friendly, the service was fast. Ambiance: The place wasn't crowded. It's not super fancy, it's a simple restaurant. I'd try it again! :) read more

As a regular the happy hour we ordered this time around tasted very off, the xlb's were overpoweringly overfilled with sesame oil flavor, fried rice was inconsistent with patches of supet salty blocks of rice or plain white rice, the seasoning of fried rice and the crispy tofu were exactly the same. The chicken wings and the beef noodle soup were the best dishes of everything we got that tasted just like they used to in the past. We were pretty shocked at this recent visit and not sure about returning back because how different and bad things had become. read more
Went here on a wedneday at 7pm, we had a reservation and were instantly seated. Good thing too bc it seemed like all tables of 4 or more were already taken. The place is super nice with a nice bar seated air and there's a lot of hanging lanterns, well decorated. In general I thought all the food and service was great and I really liked it here and would def recommend and try again. Chili oil - 8/10, chili oil so good. I was scooping it over my rice, so good Soup dumplings - 7/10. It was good but I don't think it's been the best soup dumplings I've had in the area Kung pao chicken - 6/10. Was a little thick and heavy for me, super good just didn't expect that Yogurt cocktail - 6/10. It was just ok, thought it would have more flavor but just very mild read more
Chiho is a really nice vibe in the heart of belltown. I absolutely loved the salt and pepper tofu. Their soup dumplings were quite good (I could've used more Szechuan flavor in the mala dumplings and the dan dan noodles). Staff were super attentive and friendly. read more

My husband and I enjoyed Mapo Tofu with Pork from the lunch menu and an order of the Traditional Soup Dumplings at Chiho! The Mapo Tofu, considering it to be super spicy in many Szechuan cuisine, was mild but very tasty. The tofu was silky and smooth. The Traditional Soup Dumplings were full of goodness. They were mouthwatering. The lunch menu came with jasmine rice, mixed green vegetables, and hot and sour soup. Totally a very satisfying lunch! The restaurant is nicely decorated. Service was attentive. read more

Thank you! Hope to see you again soon.
Came here for lunch around opening on a Saturday afternoon, we were the first ones there and only saw one other table filled during our meal. We wanted to come here because at long last my partner and I found a place that makes vegan soup dumplings and even on a hot summer day they really hit the spot! I went for the mixed plate of soup dumplings and thought they were all really yummy. My favorites were the crab and mala ones. The mala has that signature tingly spice that I can see building up over a full plate, so proceed with caution if that's not your thing. The truffle/squid ink ones were a little underwhelming relative to my expectations, the flavor was pretty light compared to the other less traditional ones I also had a Hong Kong style milk tea with espresso that was quite tasty! It had a really nice mix of the two flavors that I can see hitting the spot even more on a cooler day. Overall I'd make this a must if you're a vegetarian/vegan who's been wanting to try soup dumplings. If you don't have that restriction I'd say the novelty of trying a variety of soup dumplings is also worth checking out, but not as much of a must if you're visiting from out of town read more
Chiho Bistro has a cool, trendy vibe, the food was good . We ordered the five spices chicken wings, mixed soup dumplings, and soy-glazed beef noodles. The wings were amazing--packed with authentic flavors and delish. The dumplings were just okay, nothing special. The noodles, though, lacked some flavor, a little greasy. On the bright side, our server was awesome--super friendly and attentive, which made the experience better. The only downside was that the seating was cramped, so it felt a little tight. Overall, it's a good spot for the atmosphere. read more

The freaking pro-tip is to come here during happy hour! I can see how coming during regular hours would be kinda mid for the prices, but the happy hour deals are super reasonable. Also never a wait during HH. We come in for the happy hour combos: Traditional Soup Dumplings & Braised Beef Brisket Noodle Soup ($15). The soup dumplings are always a hit. And the braised beef brisket noodle soup is so freaking umami. Then the Mala Spicy Soup Dumplings and the Dan Dan Chili Oil noodles ($16) The Dan Dan noodles are really good, such perfect tang- I feel like the tang to fat to spice ratio is perfect. The drinks are pretty reasonably priced too! $9 dollars is freaking party! Another pro-tip is that you'll definitley have left over broth and sauce from noodles. We usually take that home and then add our own noodles to it later hehe ;P third meal unlocked. read more

This is my first time visiting Seattle and this is the first restaurant I dined in, pretty darn good! I met my niece and her boyfriend for dinner and this is one of their local favorites. We ordered from the Set Menu A, which offered a selection of 5 dishes for $68 that feeds 2-3 people. We selected the following to share: Truffle soup dumplings Szechuan chili oil wontons Dan Dan chili oil noodles Black truffle fried rice Mapo tofu with wagyu beef We also ordered Kung Pao Chicken ($20) and a side of jasmine rice ($2) to round off our meal. The meal set was more than enough for 3 people, so there were plenty of leftovers. The leftovers came in a nice reusable bag. Of the dishes, my favorites were the truffle soup dumplings and the black truffle fried rice. What can I say, I love truffles! I never thought to pair truffles with Chinese food, but surprisingly the flavors worked really well together! Everything was very flavorful. If you like the lip numbing Szechuan peppers, the chili oils will not disappoint! I enjoyed the food and thought the service was good. My niece said they have a really good happy hour too. Their food was affordable, tasty, and came in generous portions. Parking was bad near the restaurant, so we parked at the Amazon building that was a few blocks away. I didn't mind the walk, as it gave me a chance to see the city. read more
You don't often see a Chinese place with a happy hour menu so this was a fun find. Their menu items are extravegant and novel with fancy ingredients used in traditional Chinese dishes. They also specialize in XLB. We came late at night and got the Typhoon Shrimp, Truffle Wagyu Fried Rice, and the Chicken Chow Mein Set with Chicken XLB. As a truffle lover, I was addicted to the fried rice! So well-fried, lots of beef, and the truffle flavor worked so well. The Typhon Shrimp was delicious and crispy, like nothing we've had before. Chow Mein was also very well-stirfried, full of wok char and the chicken was very tender. XLB wrapping was thin while the inside was juicy. An incredible Chinese place! Great portion for the price as well. read more

A group of friends and I came here right after a concert nearby, and they were serving happy hour so we decided to try Chiho Bistro out! When we walked in, we had to place a reservation on their tablet up front. The young guy working front-of-house wasn't very welcoming, but had us seated after waiting about fifteen minutes. We were ready to order after they just got us seated, but he did not come to us until another fifteen minutes later. Service was definitely lack-luster that night. They also kept taking forever to get one of my friends orders out on time. Aside from service, the food was pretty good. We all ordered happy hour order and everyone seemed satisfied. I got the Dan Dan noodles which were tasty and the spicy xiaolongbaos were juicy. Soup was good too, had a nice tangy flavour and good texture consistency. The Soju cocktail that I got was pretty good too, and not bad for the price at about $9. I don't go to Belltown often, but the happy hours would bring me back. Service just needs to improve before I would come again. read more
Came here for happy hour on Friday night! Late night happy hour starts at 9 pm, and we ordered two of their $15-16 set menus. One came with beef noodle soup and traditional xiaolongbao, and the other came with spicy Dan Dan noodles and mala (spicy) xiaolongbao that tasted really similar to mala hot pot. Everything was delicious, tasted authentic, and the portions were perfect. The spicy dishes actually packed some nice heat, which I appreciated. We had no problem getting seated and the service was pretty quick. The area has street parking and lots of bars, clubs, and restaurants, so this would be a great spot to start off your weekend evening. I will definitely be coming back! read more
Came for Seattle Restaurant Week! My husband and I made reservations in advance for a Wednesday night. It was a pretty busy spot, so highly recommend making reservations for dinner. The ambiance is nice! Lots of tables and service is friendly and efficient. The SRW menu is $65 available Sunday - Friday and it serves 2-3ppl. Portions are pretty generous, could maybe even serve 4 ppl if you have some lighter eaters. They have both a vegan SRW menu and a meat version. We opted for the meat one. Includes choice of dumpling, small bites, noodles, fried rice, and large plate, which is a pretty nice variety. My only critique was that I wish it included dessert or something sweet to end the meal on. Dumpling: Mala spicy soup dumpling - which was super tasty! Definitely my favorite of all the items! Small bites - sweet and sour baby back ribs - my husband was a huge fan! Had good flavor and a nice tang! Noodles - dan dan chili oil noodles - we really enjoyed the noodles! Wish the noodles had more chew but sauce was really good! Fried rice - shrimp fried rice - delicious! Large Plate - wagyu beef in chili oil - had nice flavor but the texture of the meat was a little weird for us. It's really soft. I also got a lemon iced tea which was on the strong side, maybe I should have tried their milk tea. I like that they have other drink options though! Overall, enjoyed this spot and would come back for the soup dumplings! Also great that they have a good amount of vegan/vegetarian options for our friends. read more
Very equivalent to like DTF but i actually prefer that. Equivalent not just in genre but in the fact that I consider this pretty overpriced too. Everything was fine and not much stood out. Things like the truffle fried rice felt kinda gimmicky to me which is a shame because I think it could have been great if the flavors they tried to bring out were nailed in more. read more

Delicious dumplings and noodles! Came here with some friends for a weeknight dinner. It was easy to make a reservation and we were seated immediately.
