We had heard about this being a food truck for a while so when they finally opened up we are excited to finally give it a try. Awesome veggie friendly food and cool atmosphere inside. I love the designs and motifs on the walls and the overall mood is very chill and fun. The food we have had is all great. The cooked cauliflower head is to die for! Make sure to try their many sauces they have out to try. I tend to go for the shawarma platter as the tempeh is cooked just right and has a lot of flavor. So much hummus I was drowning in it :D read more

I love ordering takeout from Chickpea! Delicious food, friendly service and a variety of allergy friendly options to choose from! As a treat, I Love their fries and baklava!!! I've dined in once and it has a very vibrant, fun atmosphere! read more

I understand they just opened so consider this room for improvement: 1) like a lot of other places on Main Street, really going for the over the top yuppie-hipster vibe..unfortunately net effect was style over substance as 2) 2 dishes were both in a giant pile of hummus--falafel was ok, hummus sort of bland, chickpea fries are kind of odd and unsatisfying: summed up our experience. Go down to Portland and try ChickPDX guys! Much better falafel without the pretension. read more

A great vegetarian place The chickpea fries are some of the best I've ever had This place is total vegan and after trying here you won't miss meat Everything is so flavourful and the portions are large so you won't feel hungry after wards I had the latkes gan eden and it was so good and filing Also you must try the cauliflower of life salad Place is on the pricier side but the food is well prepared and quality of ingredients are top notch read more

Chickpea is the rudest, most disrespectful business on the block. Its back alley is actually a shared street with a residential area where families with young children, retired folks, and people who need sleep for their jobs and businesses reside. In spite of our (the residents) numerous pleas to schedule their food deliveries at a reasonable hour, for example after 7am, they continue to have deliveries around 5am. The Sysco delivery trucks are incredibly noisy because they have to keep their refrigerator system running, and because of the tail gate ascending/descending, and the clanging of loading/unloading of the boxes and delivery cart. IMAGINE THAT IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD A FEW TIMES A WEEK! We, the residents, are happy to coexist with respectful businesses but Chickpea ownership has proven repeatedly to be thoughtless and selfish. Their food truck rolls back in between 10 and 11pm and depending on who's operating it that day the act of parking and clean up can be obnoxiously loud and disturbing. This summer their truck had engine problems and we neighbors were subjected to mechanical engineering well past the noise bylaw time of 11pm. We, the residents , understand full well that we share a street with commercial endeavours and that we cannot afford to live elsewhere at the moment which is especially sad for the retired folks who live directly across from Chickpea, and who have lived there long before Chickpea's existence. We have been asking that as we respect their right to do business and make a living, that Chickpea have the decency to recognize that they are part of a neighborhood and that creating a culture of respect for those who live in the neighborhood is a part of being a successful business. I went once with a friend for lunch at Chickpea because I like to support our local businesses. The mostly fried offerings tasted like cardboard. It is fitting that the food of this restaurant reflects the soul of its management. read more

Tl;Dr version: long wait for mediocre food that is way better at the food truck. Was amazed by the food truck at the Kits farmer's market. Super fresh and tasty veg food that I could eat for the rest of my life. More of this food should exist here in Vancouver! So the SO and I were stoked to hear that a brick and mortar location opened! Unfortunately, the service was super slow (40 mins for 1 dish and an appetizer). We ordered the sabich platter - how could fried eggplant go wrong? Well, it did. It tasted like it was fried an hour ago and left to cool and get dried up. I saw another table that ordered it and didn't finish it. There were supposed to have "delicious potatoes" (according to the server) on the platter, but what we got was basically boiled potatoes. Shame. The chickpea fries were good still. Everything else (salad, deep fried cauliflower, hummus) didn't seem as good as the food truck. read more

Food was OK, platters came out extra late and portions weren't as big as their competitors next door and a lot pricier. Also didn't have much of drink special or maybe it was just that day I was there Our servers didn't seem to understand questions that we asked and the other server just looked like she didn't want to be there at all read more

I have previously only had Chickpea once, off their foodtruck, and it was awesome. I went to the restaurant with high hopes, despite reading reviews, and talking to a friend and a family member who had already been, and who had echoed others' comments regarding the service. My husband and I wanted to try a few things, so we ordered the following: Salatim 'Baba Ganoush' - definitely some of the best baba ganoush I've had, but I was surprised when the server asked if we wanted to have pita with it for $1.50. I had to ask, what would we eat it with otherwise? She responded that she had seen a person eat it with a spoon. Really? This is a dish on the menu, we did not order a side of baba ganoush, which you can do, this was a stand alone dish. We said yes to paying the extra, and were disappointed when it was one pita, cut in half, which was barely enough to eat half of the dip. Cauliflower Of Life - platter - we hummed and hawed about which platter to order before settling on this one. Its described on the menu as "melt in your mouth roasted cauliflower", but it was more like disintegrate in your mouth, boiled cauliflower. There was absolutely no way it was roasted, other than a flash to get some colour on one side. I was close to bringing it up with the server, as I didn't even want to eat it, it was mushy and flavourless, but I also hate food waste and so decided to suck it up and not order it again next time. However, the chickpea fries and hummus that accompanied it were great, and it also came with pita so we were able to finish our afore mentioned baba ganoush. Falafel - we ordered a side of these to go with everything else, and they were not disappointing, probably the best I've had, just as I remembered from off the truck. As someone who has been predominantly plant based for over 20 years, I think this place has a lot of potential, and I will go back. The dishes that they do well were fantastic. The staff need a bit more training in restaurant service i.e. bring side plates when there are two or more people sharing a meal, don't offer to take the side plate away while there is food still on the table, and people are clearly still eating. At least one gal and one gent were wearing outfits that I would say are too casual, even for a hippie vegan joint. I don't want to see that much of your skin, or your armpit hair, when you're serving my food, and for your own safety, wear something on your feet that are not sandals. While I didn't indulge in any alcoholic beverages this time around, I was delighted to see their selection is local, such as wine on tap from a great vineyard in Langley. Again - I will be back, I can't resist a good falafel and baba ganoush, even if I have to pay for the pita to eat it with. Next time, I will try the Kasum - crispy cauliflower.... read more

Visited this busy junction on a Saturday with wife for lunch. Here's our take Sharwarma Fries - it's actually fried tempeh. Taste is good with the lentils on top. Batter is a bit on the thick side. Boker (brunch) - it's generally good. Tomato sauce/paste base with avocado, yam and fried tofu on top. Vegan Omlette (brunch) - this one came out a bit different tham i imagined. A lot tougher and starchier in texture than egg omlettes. It's like a pie / quiche with a very thick crust. read more

This place was phenomenal. As a vegan, I have never had a chance to taste Tzatziki made vegan before! I was super impressed. I went there for both brunch and dinner and both times were amazing! Highly recommended! Great services, too and nice ambiance! read more

Just as the example suggests, this is as good as it gets. Although, I was surprised to find out it was right beside Meet On Main. I have been here a few times now and if you are hungry for vegan comfort food this place delivers. My last visit was on New Year's eve and we had a wonderful seat right beside a heater because the place was drafty. However, our waitress was amazing and recommended the Hafla which was 'all you can eat' and it s sort of a meditarranean style tapas with little bowls of goodness. It was nice to enjoy different tastes and flavours. I enjoy the goodies at this restaurant. However, I am making a committment to not eating in places that use Canola oil in 2018. read more

Terrible. Breakfast waffle was soggy and other servings were hard as a rock like it was cooked 5 hours before serving. The salad it came with was rotten and slimy. I didn't even touch the food apart from poking at it to see how gross it was. Waitress was oblivious to feedback that the meal was gross. Sent it back, still charged me and didn't offer to remake it. Spend your money elsewhere. Terrible all around. read more

The brunch here is the best Vegan brunch in the city. I've tried a decent amount but always go back to the latke benny or bacado sandwich!

Amazing restaurant space, upbeat staff, kid-friendly section...what went wrong? While the cocktails were definitely creative and very tasty (hats off to the bartenders!) the food was simply bland, dull and ordinary, massive disappointment. I think its great they've created a fun atmosphere and transcended from a food truck to restaurant but this experience unfortunately won't bring me back. read more

I LOVE Mediterranean food. So when you find a vegan Mediterranean restaurant, you gotta try it. You're wondering, what about shwarma?! Well they have a version too! It looks like REAL meat too. The flavor doesn't taste like your traditional lamb shwarma but it's still saucy and tasty none the less. Its a little sweeter than we were hoping but I still ate it haha. The falafel, chickpea fries and hummus were the stars in my opinion. These foods are naturally vegan, and Chickpea has made sure to make these delicious. They have a great menu, you can customize based on your favorite dish and the prices are reasonable. I would definitely return to this joint. read more

Chickpea - Vegan Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

We were excited to try Chickpea since we love the food truck and we're very glad we did! First of all, the space is very bright and welcoming and includes a little kids play area too. The atmosphere is vibrant and fun. We each ordered the 'Hafla' platter which is a traditional middle-eastern table spread of a variety of little salads: hummus, babaghanoush, matbucha, Moroccan carrot salad, coleslaw, pickled beets and a few other delicious salads- it was a lot of food! The platter comes with your choice of a main dish- we had the shawarma, hatzil baladi, cauliflower and schnitzelonim. I'm not a vegan but this was some of the best vegan food I've had and we were stuffed! We also shared a pitcher of the ginger balagan cocktail which was dangerously tasty and refreshing. The service was friendly and efficient. We were seated almost immediately and our food came fast. Overall an awesome addition to Main st. and a unique take on vegan/vegetarian middle-eastern cuisine. We'll be back for sure! read more

I'm not usually into vegan food but this place is amazing. I recently moved away and I've been dreaming about the latkes benechick since I left. 100% would make a special trip just to see them! read more

Good vegan menu. Servicent is pretty good even for brunch when it can be busy. Ordered the falafel plate and it was delicious. I really like the chickpea fries. Coming back in a couple of weeks with some other friends. read more

I love the idea of this place as a vegan and I really want to support them, I just wish that the food wasn't so greasy. I enjoy it on the way in but often don't feel the best afterwards. Also, it tends to be a bit on the cold side. read more

Fell in love with this place as soon as I walked in the door. Welcoming atmosphere, great location, delicious food and memorable staff makes this my new go-to after gym location. Vegan menus, fresh juice, and a sauce bar...what more could a Main Street girl wish for??! What's with the bad reviews? This place has been open two weeks, give them a second to iron out the kinks and this place will blow up! Already nervous about finding a good seat next time, get in while you can :) read more

So fucking good I can never finish it all it's so much fibre. I had the "calamari" rice platter and it was heavenly

I had heard about this place from quite a few people and this city was definitely lacking amazing middle eastern food. Not only was it quick and easy to order through Doordash but the food came quick and was absolutely phenomenal! Best falafels I've had in Vancouver, amazing hummus and cauliflower. The chickpea fries are stellar. The one thing I'd have to say was a disappointment was the baba ganoush. I was expecting much more flavor from it after trying the rest of my meal but was left with a "meh" feeling. It's SO simple to make a delicious baba ganoush. I'm disappointed that no one seems to take the time to make it properly. Although this was the case, the rest of the meal did not warrant me giving anything less than a five star rating. Don't let these other idiots fool you. Waiting for amazing food is worth it. Don't be giving businesses poor ratings because they're busy. Not only is that stupid on you part but also hurts businesses for something that's out of their control. I can't wait to go there in person and see for myself. Sans baba ganoush though... read more

Loved the food. A lot of humus and huge portion size. Tried the humus plate and platter. The chickpea fries that came with the platter weren't too good. read more

Nice spot! Fairly big interior but still has a cozy vibe. Lots of beer and some ciders on tap. I tried a slushy lemonade/mint drink which was an unusual choice for me but really good! I had a falafel platter which was great but I asked for the spicy sauce to be left off and it wasn't - that was a disappointing. Meals are all pretty large portions. Overall a decent dinner but I wasn't blown away. read more

First off , if you are a group of 6 or more expect 18% gratuity added to your bill!!!! Which is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!!!! we weren't even told ahead of time by our server and he didn't even offer to take it off our bill for his error. This infuriates me that we're forced to pay a tip let alone to pay 18% !!!!! on top of our already ridiculously priced "vegetables " . We ordered drinks and they were overpriced at $10+ and my drink was small with a ton of ice . For $18 I expected a lot but I had a plate with a massive amount of hummus with 2 small pieces of cauliflower attached, And a micro salad . About an hour after eating my boyfriend had serious stomach issues and hasn't stopped going to the bathroom since eating here . Needless to say , we WILL NEVER BE BACK HERE . read more

Yay! A new vegan spot!! The food was so delicious and something completely new to Main Street. The space was creative and thoughtful - they have a sense of playfulness and fun. I'll definitely be coming back. I think with some time, this place will become more what it's intended to be: a casual, family-friendly, neighbourhood mainstay. Areas for improvement: (1) the space was really crowded, so I wouldn't come here with friends for a big get-together. It's more a space I'd go with my husband or one friend for a super casual meal. (2) the kid-friendly thing is a little confusing because it feels like the restaurant also wants to be this cool hipster spot. (3) The 'whatever' bathroom was not my thing - at the end of the day, I don't want to be in a stall next to a dude. (4) $17 for the platter was steep - I thought it'd be a little larger and a bit more shareable at that price. Still, I'd highly recommend it and really enjoyed it. I'm excited for what this will be once it finds it's rhythm. read more

Great comfort food! So delicious. The Interior is very cute inside. This is a great place for some vegan food with some friends

I don't understand how this place is only rated 3.5 stars. 100% my favourite, go-to restaurant for amazingly delicious, comfort food-y vegan food that ALSO happens to be pretty damn good for you. Honestly everything on the menu is a favourite, but the shawarma and the chickpea fries are to DIE FOR. Don't even get me started on how great their brunch is-it might possibly be the most delicious thing to ever happen. Seriously, if you haven't been here you are missing OUT! read more

I ordered the falafel plate which came with salad, falafel, hummus, and chickpea fries! Wow the falafels and hummus here are amazing! Crunchy outside with a mushy inside (falafel). The hummus felt tastier than regular hummous I get from the super market. The chick pea fries were the bomb. I like that you can choose from an array of sauces ; my favourite was the mango one. Overall the service was attentive and pleasant; the decor was cute and Instagram- worthy. I definitely recommend this place! There's still so many items I want to try. read more

Love the interior and location of this restaurant. The food is probably the best in city (middle eastern - mostly from Israel). We got the hafla which included a sampler of a few appetizers, mains and the delicious chickpea fries! Don't miss out on the hummous and babagonoush. read more

Oh Chickpea how I love thee... disclaimer alert- I haven't been in the restaurant so my review is for food that was delivered only. I've ordered from Chickpea a few times now and I haven't been disappointed yet. To see "gluten friendly" on almost every menus item is a delight! The falafel, the hummus, the salads...they are so good, but those chickpea French fries?! Those are a must every time. I highly recommend giving them a try, especially if you're gf like me! read more

Underwhelming and mediocre at best. Those that are vegans, this would be a spot to try out. Portions are massive and are definitely share-worthy. If you are looking for a meal to eat that can be followed up with a nap, just down one of the entrees by yourself. Unique concept, but there are definitely other options. read more

Not a vegan by any means; however, I absolutely love this place! My go to is the Hatzil Baladi platter. I always recommend getting a platter as you get a little bit of everything (chickpea fries, salad, hummus, pita and the main of your choice). Falafels were extremely dry. The amount of food you get for what you pay is pretty awful. Small glob of mediocre humus, dry, tasteless falafel, and unremarkable salad. The only redeeming thing was the chick pea fries which were absolutely delicious. read more

Pretty good first time experience with the beyond meat wrap, tasty and quite a fair portion. Though it took almost 2 hours to finish on a Sunday morning where there was not a lot of people at the restaurant. The chick pea fries were soggy and they were good to bring us some new ones as they came with a spicy chilli sauce that makes the fries soggy. The cashew nut ice cream was good, although I wasn't able to taste the espresso in the flavours, just chocolate. read more

Another great Vegan find- their falafel platter is so freaking good!! Salad, French fries, hummus, falafel... all with generous portions. If you like a cozy hipster vibe you'll like eating in. Tons of gluten free options available as well. read more

Saying this restaurant is bad is an understatement. Their food is bland, burnt, and everything is DIRTY. The waitresses have had zero training and everything is fried. I have no idea why this place gets amazing reviews, everyone tells me I have to go to chickpea because it's the best. Well, I've been there three times now and it's still absolute shit. Everyone says "it's vegan! It's healthy!" UHH SORRY EVERYONE, ITS NOT HEALTHY. they fry everything. Chickpea should have stayed a food truck. read more

So you wanna drink a bottle of olive oil for dinner? Chickpea's got you covered. Tried the tempeh hummus platter. I love tempeh but received no more than 3...maybe 4 pieces, swimming in a yellow-white pile of slop. I had no idea what it was. Then it dawned on me, "This sludge is what they're passing off as the 'hummus.'" I've had hummus from them before that was bland, but at least it was hummus. This was someone pouring a bottle of olive oil into it, making it oil soup. Potatoes are hard to screw up but Chickpea's latkes I received didn't taste like potatoes. Nearly black, nearly burnt exterior, and slathered in grease. Grease is good if it tastes good, but this was the taste of nothing but a crunchy mouthful of oil (if you didn't already drink enough from before). I also had the misfortune of trying their "Cauliflower of Life" salad platter which was a palm-sized head of cauliflower, slathered in a mayo-ish sauce. The cauliflower needed to be cooked less to withstand the sauce, so as not to become a soggy mess. Worse, it was supposed to come with a "generous" mixture of chickpeas and greens, but was 95% diced cucumber, tomato, and celery. They have more offerings than their food truck (which served me burnt black eggplant), but that also means more food they can mess up. read more
