We were craving rotisserie chicken one night and almost went to a local super market to pick one up. After work, I was exhausted and wanted something quick. I almost forgot about Chicken King Express! I placed the order for a family meal and it was ready for pick up in no time. The rice was perfectly cooked. The hummus was tasty, and that chicken was superb! The flavors were perfectly paired and the garlic and chili sauce really hit the spot. My next order will be the kabob family meal because it looks amazing. I already know the fixings are going to be great. Would I recommend this place? I would scream it if anyone would listen... My sister was craving for Mediterranean food again so we drive to Monrovia on a Saturday afternoon to go there for lunch. The place is small and in a small shop center next to curves. No one was there and the place is small with tables and chairs. I picked beef kabob plate and sister ordered chicken kebob. I think we waited 20min or so for food to arrive. The owner delivered our food. The rice was moist not dry, the hummus and pita bread was good too. The beef kebab is a different story and rating to 3 stars. It has a gamey taste or they used different seasoning that I am not familiar. I should of copied my sister to get chicken kebab. read more

Mediterranean food is always an awesome lunch when dining out. Healthy, protein-filled, and wonderfully satisfyin. Chicken King Express is one of the stand-out Mediterranean establishments I've tried recently. No public restroom here by the way, but they will let you use their kitchen sink if you need to wash your hands before eating. The owner was incredibly welcoming and kind. There was a tip jar near the register (I added a few dollars to it after finishing my meal and before leaving) and he definitely deserves all the money he earns from it as well as the rest of the culinary team here for preparing authentic, high quality, overly delicious Mediterranean cuisine that's made to order. One of the best chicken kebab plate I've had and a filling, well-sized serving of every item included. Creamy, savory hummus (most magnificent tasting hummus ever!), freshly warmed pita bread (super generous on the 4 pita bread pockets they gave us), yummy rice (similar to rice pilaf but a whole lot better), small side of salad with a tangy vinaigrette dressing, and flavorful-filled garlic and peppery tasting, juicy chicken pieces that were a hearty size (they look small in the photo but they definitely weren't bite-sized, I had to cut them in half or I would have a mouthful of chicken from just one piece lol). Additionally, they include a small cup of thick garlic sauce for dipping your chicken, which I generally don't like that much. Too garlic and has a pasty consistency. Instead, I used the hummus for making myself a handmade pita wrap with the chicken (next time around, I'll order another side of hummus lol). Chicken King's hummus is so fantastic and this is coming from a first timer of this establishment. For the inexpensive price and fresh quality, the chicken kebab meal is supremely worth every bite. I will definitely be back no doubt about it when I'm in this vicinity of the San Gabriel Valley. I plan on trying their chicken wrap on my next visit. I called in for a pick up for lunch on my way to work today. I ordered the chicken kebab with extra pita an extra garlic spread. The total came out to 12 bucks. That's not bad for the amount of food that you do get it. I was in and out food was ready for me which is what I like. The rice had very little taste but that was OK for me. The garlic spread had bits of actual garlic in it I'm not used to that. Usually it's more of a paste and more of a Kelimini taste at with garlic but it just it was just OK. The chicken was extremely burnt when I took a bike it was all I tasted was the burnt part of the chicken. The pita bread with the hummus was OK I tasted Cumen which was pretty strong I don't know did not like it. Overall it wasn't as good as the reviews read more

This is my favorite restaurant. I order from here at least once a week! The food is amazing and prices reasonable. I think my favorite is the fatoush salad. First time trying this place. My usual for Mediterranean is Zankou and while it's still a favorite, Chicken King was delicious! I ordered the chicken kebab plate with an extra kebab. It comes with rice, salad, hummus and pita. In addition we had some falafel. Chicken was very tender. Pita and hummus were yummy as was the falafel. I think Zankou's garlic spread is better. This was good but more lemony than what I've had at other places. It wasn't bad. I just prefer the smoother, creamier Zankou version. Ordering was easy and it was ready in about 20 minutes. This location is in a shopping center with parking available in front of restaurant. I stopped by since I was craving some meat/rice. I order the beef kabob plate. The food was amazing!!! It included rice, beef, pita bread, hummus and side salad. They had my favorite soda, cactus cooler!!! Very rare to find at times. What also attracted me about this place is the plant decor they have on their walls. I could not finish my food because I wasn't too hungry so I took the leftovers home. This place is a hidden gem. We found it about 7 years ago and has never disappointed. Their chicken is so far my favorite rotisserie chicken, very tender and tasty. I've dined at Chicken King Express, ordered take out, and have had their catering. All of these times their food has been delicious and consistent. I actually salivate thinking of all their delicious kabobs, salad, hummus, grape leaves, and more. I wish I discovered Chicken King Express earlier than last year. Passed it and had to make a U-Turn because even with my gps, it's spot is so inconspicuous and easy to miss. Prices are what one would expect to pay for this type of food, but a bit high for this place, in my opinion. I ordered a 2 piece chicken meal and grape leaves, no drink, $17. Sheesh. Food: taste was just ok. Pita bread gets crusty and hard after a minute or two. Yuck. But the size is generous and I was given two. That may be important for some. No one food item really stood out to me as great. I most likely won't be back, though I know some coworkers of mine who really enjoy this place. This is our new go to for a delicious meal when we don't want to cook. The beef kabob is tender and cooked just right. The fatoush salad with chicken is my new favorite. And the cheese empanadas are light and tasty. We tried the chicken, beef and cheese. The cheese is SOOOOO good and my favorite. Being from the middle east, I am typically skeptical of places like this. Mediterranean restaurants blur and overlap with one another - there's usually nothing special that draws me back to those establishments after the first try. But one day, I was short on time and needed something hand-held to eat on the road before I hit the LA rush hour, so I decided to try this place out. I ordered a rotisserie chicken wrap, even though I felt like getting a falafel. I have a saying: "you get pizza at a pizza place, not pasta." The wrap was delicious! The chicken was moist, the portion perfect, and furthermore satisfied my every hunger need. The staff is helpful and respectful. The restaurant is clean and welcoming. After watching endless hours of youtube videos where Gordon Ramsey goes to restaurants and finds the worst health violations, I became paranoid about eating out. This place, however, I have no doubt runs a clean shop and I feel comfortable eating the food there. With so many nurses that live in the area between Azuza Pacific and the many City of Hope campuses, I'm glad there's a place that is feeding our frontline workers with good nutrients, and not that fast food gobidity goop. read more

I am a fan of zankou but chicken king steps up and is a great alternate to z chicken. I like the hummus here even more. Chicken is done just right served with hummus and pickles or your choice of rice. I will definitely be back for kebabs. They also have a number of salads as well as family meals. They also cater and have seating as well. Plenty of parking (I hate the parking at z chicken in Pasadena). Really nice to see a smaller competitor to z chicken that delivers the goods. CHICKEN UPDATE: Been here 5 times now. The CHICKEN here is sooo moist, juicy, and flavorful! Yummy crispy skin too. (Side Note: you can't compare to the rotisserie chicken from Costco or Ralph's etc.) Strong competitor again Zankou's chicken (and other local places). It seems like every time we've ordered Zankou, the chicken was dry so Chicken King has an advantage. I'd still go to Zankou for their Chicken Tarna Wraps, but Chicken King for actual chicken! However, you can pay 75 cents extra and get the tabouli salad... if you've never had tabouli salad before, make sure you try it. its minty and extremely refreshing. the kebab was juicy and flavorful. try putting some into the pita bread with rice and garlic sauce. you can thank me later. the day we went, i'm not sure if the AC works or not, but it was pretty hot inside. read more

Had some delicious food Saturday! I made the mistake of not seeing the Q&A on yelp before heading over Saturday evening, so I didn't realize they're trying to limit to call-ahead orders only. I showed up half an hour before closing, and the owner was very gracious and showed me a menu and explained their current procedures. (Note: google and yelp show them closing at 9 pm, but I believe they're closing a little earlier -- 8 pm -- for now.) I ended up walking away with a kebab family meal because I had asked about the lule. The steak was so delicious and tender, definitely my favorite. (The meal comes with steak, chicken, and lule [ground beef] kebab meat; an entire dinner container of rice; an entire container of salad; half a pack of pita bread; a half pint container of hummus; and some garlic spread.) Everything was good quality ingredients, nice and fresh -- the surprise show-stealer for me was the hummus. I love hummus but I can't handle epic amounts of garlic, and this stuff was just perfect. I could even taste the tahini. Will definitely be back for steak kebabs and hummus and I want to try their other sides.
