Hooray for a new late night eats place. Especially with the covid effect things in the south bay have been pretty ghost town these last couple years. Even my old reliable places have shortened their hours. To be able to get some solid grub at midnight is awesome. Now they've just opened with a smaller menu of a few sandwiches but they will go full bore next month. Now admittedly I have a price/performance value in mind where Im not willing to pay a lot more if Im only getting a 1-2% taste increase or often times nothing at all. I am happy to support a local owned business that is shooting to do something excellent. Had a fried chicken sandwich with pepper jack, jalapenos, pickles and tomatoes, They have their own two special sauces that I cant quite make out but are tasty. They also come on the side if you want to dip more, or if you do like me, dip your side of seasoned fries in them. Very delicious and the peppers will give you a lot of heat if you get them in the right bite. They wont shy away here if you mean to level up It's in this old building that had a falafel/shwarma joint that went dark a couple years ago. I got the Chick-Licious, which came with a layer of mayo on top and no cheese. It was the perfect chicken sandwich to me. It was crispy, juicy and seasoned well. I got a side of fries that had some cajun seasoning that were just okay. I would probably opt for a healthier side next time if I couldn't just order the sandwich. It's hard to knock an independent small business as they are just starting off, so rounding up on the stars but looking forward to seeing their progress over the weeks to months. The line was decently long and the wait for the sandwiches took up to 45min for an order of two given that the cashier was running between assembling sandwiches and taking orders. A couple who ordered before us didn't get their order until quite a bit after us. Ultimately the draw of this place is its HUGE chicken sandwich portions and ultimate juicy yet crispy fried chicken. There are four small tables out front and several inside. A decent parking lot in back though street parking is fairly easy to come by. The eats: *Each sandwich comes with a side (fries, coleslaw, Mac n cheese--none the week of 8/11/22 despite being written on the menu). - Naughty-chick: tangy sauce that leaves you wanting a bit more. The chicken is bomb diggity with the crisp that edges on perfect and the juiciness beyond compare. The peppers were slices a bit thickly and per my preference diced version and placed on the sauce to stick to the bun might've led to more equal distribution of that kick. - The Big G: decent with cheese and a peppery taste without the Naughty-chick spice kick. Overall this is my preference. - the fries: somewhat crispy but not particularly standout - the coleslaw: small in a container. Lacked taste and creaminess. Overall thoughts: wish there was a bit more taste to the sandwiches whether it's from the sauce or in the chicken itself. The sesame buns were soft and OK but didn't taste toasted despite it appearing like they were doing so at the counter. Planning to try the Mac n cheese when it's finally out. Yes, the sandwich is kind of expensive, but it's also HUGE and fried perfectly (crispy and not greasy, tender inside), and comes with a side. The G sauce is delicious and has a mild kick, goes perfectly with the fries too. Would definitely try their fried chicken meals some time. Be aware that the G sauce is slightly spicy, so anyone with zero spice tolerance should stick to the first sandwich on the menu. Restaurant is pretty tiny and suited more for takeout than dine in. A quaint restaurant after the gas station of Shoreline and El Camino. Drive slowly once you see the gas station so you dont miss it. You can also make a right on Palo Alto Ave to enter their Parking lot area. There's a few spots available, if not, there is always street parking. I arrived at the place around 11:30 and there were a few people in front of me to order. Staff is straight to the point when ordering to get the line going. Place was super clean. They have a comfortable waiting area for people who are waiting for their take out. I ordered the Friends Meal. It consisted of 8 HUGE chicken pieces (4drums 4thighs) and 3 sides. I got all the sides that they offer - coleslaw, mac n cheese, and fries. Chicken was crispy and moist. You can dip it into their house sauces. Sauces resembled a lot like spices from curry. I liked the orange-ish sauce more than the white. Try dipping in the french fries too. Amongst the sides, the mac n cheese was my favorite. It had crumbs and seasoning sprinkled on top. The chicken was hot but you need to like curry in the seasoning which was an interesting take on fried chicken. I took two points off because the mac and cheese was only warm and the fries were overly seasoned cold fries. I the fries were cold because they were in a metal bowl on a shelf. No kind of warmer. Which is just as well, the bread was caked with a thick gooey sauce that was way too much for my sandwich. I did eat the fresh jalepenos with the chicken patty, but tossed the rest. By the time I finished, my son was still picking at 1 piece of his 2 piece combo. After peeling off the thick greasy breading, that piece appeared to be a fried chicken back as it was full of bones. He was able to extract some meat, but by that time his hands were covered with grease and really didn't have an appetite for the 2nd piece. Was super excited about this place but was disappointed on trying it. The place hasn't yet fully opened and they seemed very overwhelmed. They just had 3 people serving what seemed to be an endless stream of customers (both in store and pickup/delivery). This led to long wait times, dearth of seating and customers standing while waiting for their food. All of this could be discounted if the burgers were nice. Unfortunately they tasted strictly ok. The chicken was crunchy but lacked flavor. The buns were simple sesame buns smeared with some house sauce which tasted fine. The fries were good though - I think they had chaat masala. We got the naughty chick and big g - both tasted similar though one of them had onions and the other had jalapeño. They didn't give sauce on the side but you could get ketchup and hot sauce from the counter. I think they need to focus on the food more. Other issues like seating and ambience also need attention but are secondary to the food taste. I understand they're halal. Given the dearth of other halal chicken places in Mountain View, they have a really good opportunity to build a loyal customer base. In a time where $20'sandwiches are the norm, It's hard to define a bargain. However, with hearty chicken portions,, this restaurant is a step up (in price and quality) from mass commercial fast food. This isn't the type of restaurant that is likely to change, I cast a strong vote for allowing you to buy a sandwich without sides (which I didn't care for or want), for a more traditional hot chicken sandwich (spices vs peppers), and for buns that can stand up to the task at hand. So why 3 stars? The rating would have been 4 except for the fragrance that is sprayed into the restaurant. Whether this was done to mask the strong smell marijuana or for some other reason, neither is appealing in a restaurant setting. There's a reason you can't buy "Liz Claybourbe - DANK" at Nordstrom's - no need to give it away for free at Chicken G's. read more

There are only four items on the menu: plain, hot, or special sauce chicken sandwiches and seasoned french fries. The breading on the fried chicken has been perfected and I respect their made-to-order policy even if I did wait 10 minutes for it. The 15 minute drive home didn't make a dent in the crunchyNess of the boneless skinless chicken thigh. I got the special sauce and hot chicken which were mostly the same. The big difference was the hot version had the spicy-version of the special sauce and fine shavings of Serano chili on top of the chicken. Finally got to try this place! They only have one thing on the menu: Chicken! And they're doing it right. You can get either pieces or a sandwich. I tried the Big G sandwich (to go). First off, the chicken was treated very well. Moist, tender and flavorful. Loved the killer crispiness which held onto the chicken nicely and the chicken stayed crisp for my 10 min drive home. Their choice of roll was excellent as it held up to the lettuce and sauces. The garlic sauce was a nice addition and packed a little bit of heat, which I liked. I am a fried chicken freak. I must try it wherever I go. I was in Mtn View on Friday, and I had to stop. I only like bone in chicken, and they do sell that-- although it was difficult to communicate this to the person at the counter. So, I didn't want any side dishes, I just wanted 2 pieces of fried chicken. This took a while to get this across, but I was finally able to order a 2 piece order of chicken for $9.49 (ouch). I waited about 15 minutes and the chicken came out super hot and fresh. The breading and spices are amazing. It has a unique flavor, but not in a bad way. Well, I was so excited that I wanted to share this chicken with my Wife, so the next day I returned with my Wife and I attempted to order 8 pieces of chicken without the sides and this counter person either did not understand English or was just a jerk? He just kept pointing at the menu and would not listen to me. I explained to him that I bought chicken without sides the day before. There were two other employees there that could have assisted, but they just stood there staring at me. I finally gave up and ordered the combo dinner. It was $44!! This was a great find! The location is unfortunately far from downtown but parking on El Camino is easy. This is close to the neighborhoods in walking distance for a lot of fortunate people that like fried chicken. I didn't know this was a soft opening but they have obviously perfected the fried chicken sandwich. The chicken came out super crunchy and moist and tender inside; I found myself eating around the outside just to eat the crust of the chicken. I had the naughty chick sandwich and it was nice and spicy. They added little slices of jalapeños or some kind of pepper on top of the shredded lettuce topped with the fried chicken. It was absolutely delicious. I asked them if they will be bringing out a bucket of chicken similar to KFC and they said that it would come later. Definitely wanted to like this place but just can't. For the price I was expecting a lot better than what I got. The chicken was moist but just extremely salty and over seasoned. Now I know this is supposed to be some Indian take or inspired chicken. For the record I love Indian food and I love Thai food spice cranked up to local levels. I'm not stranger to strong flavors. This was just simply incredibly and ridiculously over seasoned. I had to reach for the water immediately and after two pieces of chicken I was tapped out. Way too much seasoning and salt. The Texas toast was pretty much.... Toast. Uninspired. None of the classic garlic buttery toasty goodness of a proper big Texas toast with garlic better. It felt like a slice of barely better than wonderbread with a pat of margarine stuck in the toaster. Waste of bread. The cole slaw cabbage was fresh but there was some kind of funk in the taste that I never tasted in coleslaw. Sour but without any tang or bite at all. Just wasn't good coleslaw. I'm not sure if this just their take on coleslaw but it's definitely not good. Would not order again. Mac and cheese was meh and tepid as well. Inoffensive but nothing special. Not cheesy tasting enough probably because there was too much sort of soft plain white cheese compared to a sharper cheddar or blend. It's something I could have made better myself in less time than waiting for my order. Altogether if that's it, can easily say it's my first and last time here. To each their own I just don't see what the big deal is. It was not that good at all. If it was an "off day" sorry, but I'd only give it a second chance if I got a "free"-peat of my order. I have ordered takeout from here twice. I tried the big G and the Naughty-chick with fries and Mac & Cheese. My gripe here is the dark meat, as it leaves an unpleasant texture and color to the sandwich. The Big G is very mild and the Naughty-chick is overly hot as they cannot actually control the heat level. They choose to slice raw serranos and layer them on, which gives them 0 control over heat level as each serrano's heat will vary. I would encourage Chicken G's to incorporate a heated batter to control your heat levels as well as offer white meat sandwiches. read more
