There are poke bowl business; Mexicans restaurant and flower shop insides. It is a multifunctional store. Spoke with owner's son, he studied music at Spain and German. Nice friendly market. Always has ingredients I need, however; the produce can sometimes be fresher. They sell Marianne's ice cream by the quart (salivating). The poke vendor has good fresh poke with a lot of toppings. I haven't been disappointed when ordering it. read more

Recent update - March, 2025 - RAVING about the recent availability of TerraFresh Peruvian ORGANIC mangos. Every one has been edible when purchased, though shelf-ripening always helps. A few though, have been shelf-ripe from the get-go! What a joy to open the mango to see deep orange, soft, sweet fruit-meat inside. Either way, after shelf-ripening at home for a few days, or ripe immediately, these mangos are worth a visit to Avas. read more

You would think this place would be super busy and overpriced because it's in the downtown/popular area but it's neither and I loved it just for that reason! Cute local market on Castro St. that has a good variety of things, from fresh produce, fresh bread, baking supplies, tons of cheeses, wines, etcetera. HeyO! and Pokebar are both located inside here as well. I come here often for: poke, and last minute grocery runs. +1 Fresh baguette! YUMM. Pretty cheap too! +1 Cheese selection makes we want to get everything! We ended up getting brie, and camenbert. +1 "Meats" selection...not too sure what we got, but everything here looked delicious too! Today was the first time I shopped at Ava's. I never went before because I assumed the prices would be high and the selection would be limited because it's not a supermarket. I was pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices, especially for high end cheeses. I was also really pleased with the selection. I was particularly impressed by the organic and international options. I felt good shopping at a locally owned store. My visit today will not be my last. I have been a fan of Ava for years now. For me to find Spanish items can be a real hassle. I either have to order online or go to the East Bay or North Bay. Living here on the peninsula, neither one of those options are too convenient. I like the fact that Ava has a wide variety of cheeses and chorizos, membrillo(quince),tortas, coffee, chocolate, cookies, and olive oil and vinegar and much more! If you are looking for items that are not normally in your supermarket and specialty items from Spain including wine, Ava is your one-stop-shop. The staff are friendly and you can be in and out in no time at all, this is big for me. So happy this place is located on Castro Street in Mt View basically next door to East-West Books. read more

Ava's Downtown Market is super convenient and the best option next to Rose International Market in the downtown MV area near Castro Street. They have most everything that you would be looking for. Fresh produce. They partnered with Starship to have robots (yes, robots-- see photo) deliver groceries in a (very) limited deliver area on the same side of Central Expressway as the grocery store. Pretty cool to robot watch or even follow as you see it navigate it's way to it's destination, avoid obstacles and managing intersections almost flawlessly. Welcome to the future! read more

I'm so excited that Ava's has some many interesting offerings to drool over and try! I ended up with a sleeve of McVities Digestives cookie biscuits, Haribo Fresch Füchse cola fox gummies and then I found the Spanish section! After reading a few of the descriptions, I ended up with Butifarra Catalana pork sausage links, jamon serrano, Catalonian pork sausage (cured meat, unsliced) and a bag of Doña Juana Reganas Spanish tapas crackers. We were supposed to go to Spain at the end of April, but things happened and our travel got cancelled. Not my first time shopping at Ava's either. I like to stop by for dessert! Bar Gelato pops and lots of nice chocolate bars. Mmm. read more

I cannot believe this precious gem in the middle of Castro Street in Mountain View! I went there just to show a newcomer from my country some local flavor and got so hooked up into the atmosphere of old times grocery store and almost faint when found out they cater SO MANY Spanish products, like pre-packaged paella (I already cooked it and was delicious), mantecados from Estepa, different spices, Bomba rice from Valencia, chorizo from Leon, manchego cheese, Cola Cao and even Nenuco...the eau de toilette of my childhood! I love this store, everything looks cute in it, prices are affordable (including these imported items, they don't overprice) and the service is great and friendly. What a great little market with great wine selections and items from around the world. The prices here are incredibly competitive and in the heart of downtown. The place is nice and clean and they also have a great Poke bar on the inside. You can't go wrong with the variety they have there either. This is a smaller, but fantastic market. There are many unique items here, and that is probably the main reason I visit. They don't have leeks, but they have really great garlic here. It can be on the expensive side, but understandable because of the items. A couple things were less than other places. There are 2 places to eat/get food to go inside.heyO and a poke bowl place. Love that they have both Organic Pastures and Claravale Farms raw milk! I usually go to Sprouts for OP milk because OP is 100% grassfed. But Claravale, which is hay and corn-supplemented, is tastier (of course, being less healthy), so it's a treat to be able to have that (something I previously only was able to get in L.A.). It's not as good (or as cheap - $4.99 a gallon!) as the A2 grassfed Amish milk I used to drive from NY to PA just to get (and that you used to be able to get at the Rawesome in L.A.), but it's the tastiest raw milk outside of PA. Read in another review that they had pastured meats... I didn't see them. Will have to look more carefully next time. Not all their produce is organic which is a bit of a bummer. I miss BJs market at home, where everything is organic so you don't have to worry about accidentally picking up something conventionally grown. read more

I was really craving a sandwich and as this was right across the street, decided to come in here to satiate my craving. Unfortunately, the deli was closed down so I decided to settle for getting a poke bowl. I thought it was pretty unique that they had a whole poke bar in a grocery store/deli so definitely wanted to give it a try. They give you a TON of food in your bowl. The top wouldn't even close all the way so the girl had to put a rubber band around the whole thing. While the fish tasted fresh and all the toppings and sides complemented each other well, I think there was not enough protein with the amount of food that was in the container. I went through the fish pretty quick and then was left with primarily brown rice and seaweed. Not bad by any means and I'll probably go back if I'm in the area and want something quick to go, but probably not my go to place. read more

I like Ava's. It's not a chain and you're supporting a local business by buying here which is always nice. They are well located in the middle of Castro St. and are usually well stocked. The staff are helpful and friendly, but the prices can be a tad expensive and runs somewhere between Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. I don't come here too often, but always like how fresh their produce is and enjoy their extensive cheese collection. If you live near the downtown area, the convenience alone is worth it. read more

I love shopping at Ava's - Mountain View's neighborhood grocery store. My husband and I shop at Ava's at least once a week. They have a great variety of standard grocery items in addition to interesting specialty items. They also have a good selection of beer and wine (not just the standard stuff you find at grocery stores). The owner and staff are very friendly and helpful. If you don't see what you want, Juan (the owner) will see if he can get it for you on a future trip. Also recently added are Starship deliveries. If you live near the store, you can have your groceries delivered by a robot. Which is cool! And surprisingly fast. read more

He and the staff at Ava's are super helpful, and are always eager to help me find the grocery items I look for. My favorite items at Ava's are their local artisanal products: cookies, cakes and chocolates. I often buy them as gifts for friends, because they're unique and high quality. They also have an awesome wine selection: the types of wine that come from smaller wineries, not the big brands that sell in huge volumes at Safeway or Target.
