It is really hard to find parking but I found a spot a quarter mile away. I noticed the store had some ethnic groceries in addition to other groceries which I thought was nice. I think I paid $3.95 a tamale which is on the higher end. I asked the girl who took my order if they make the tamales and she said they did. I bought four pork tamales to try. The meat to masa ratio is maybe a little over 1/3 to 2/3 so a little more meat would have balanced out the masa. It had good flavor and the masa wasn't too dry. Overall a good tamale. If I'm in the area again I think I should eat them fresh and warm. Reheating tamales could throw off the original freshness. A solid 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars for a Mom and Pop neighborhood location.

The meat was decent, but the masa was just okay. They wrap the tamales in a husk, then plastic, and keep them in a warming unit. The masa ended up mushy, likely from being over‑steamed. The market itself is a cool little spot with a nice assortment of drinks and snacks. The guy behind the counter was friendly and helpful as we made our choices. Unfortunately, the tamales just didn't live up to the hype, so I'll be looking elsewhere.

A TJ's review and a commentary on the limited-edition bags…read more Overall, I'd say that I like this store, but as with everything these days, there are occasionally some challenges. This store is generally organized and well stocked, but I do sometimes receive conflicting information about when out of stock items might be back in stock. Most of the crew members are nice and helpful, but a few offer opinions that are inappropriate for a business setting. I occasionally hear crew members complaining about customers and, while I realize that dealing with the general public can be challenging, I would like to remind these crew members that some of your co-workers have some fairly quirky personalities too. The only thing that seems to be really bothering a lot of customers lately are the inconveniences we encounter over the limited release bags. This store has done a good job of creating two lines, one for people who want bags and one for people who just want to do their grocery shopping. In spite of this good solution to deal with the volume of customers at these bag releases, things are getting worse. Last week the entire parking lot was taken over by people in line for bags. Those of us who just wanted to shop for groceries had to park in Walmart's lot and hike over to the store. I'm not sure what Trader Joe's agenda is with this manufactured scarcity of bags. I realize that logo bags are a marketing strategy to show brand loyalty, but these limited-edition bags only seem to be creating a market for the resellers on ebay and people sending them to international locations. These people usually only buy the bags, not groceries, and the congestion they're creating at the store level is only pissing off your loyal customers, i.e. the people who built your brand in the first place by shopping regularly at your stores. Why don't you just start selling them around the world? Your marketing strategy could be that Trader Joe is bringing something from a US store chain to people around the world.

They have a lot of healthier options for me, which are actually pretty tough to find in other supermarkets. Parking was competitive, but I knew it would be. The thief had enough time to cut the lock and haul away a heavy e-bike, right outside the entrance, and nobody noticed. That bike was how she got to and from school every day. When she asked the staff for help, she was told there are no cameras covering the rack, no security, and "nothing to do." No one checked if she was okay, offered to call a parent, or even offered her a glass of water. She was a teenager, alone and upset, and she was sent off with a shrug. If you ride a bike here, don't trust the rack. And if something happens to you, don't expect any help from the staff. A police report is being filed.

Mega is clearly far and away the best Asian market in the Bay area... having said that, I do have…read moresome complaints but will give it the 5 stars it deserves. Let's start with the good, or I should say best. The sashimi here is the best of any Asian market bar none. You could even say better than some Sushi restaurants (I won't name them). Even some of the newer Asian markets like T&T have disgusting sashimi... to the point you can taste the ice bc they hadn't fully defrosted it. The only nit I have is bruh... stop putting the frickin plastic sauce packets right on top of the fish. Why? Why would you do that? Stop it. Come on. Why in the actual F would you do that? Ok, I know this sounds more like complaints but I do really like Mega Mart to be clear. 2 other issues: #1. Dude... what're you guys doing with the panchan? When did you start adding so much sugar and sugaring the F out of the panchan. This is not how it should be. Old Korean grandmas are literally turning in their graves with this sacrilege. Maybe panchan sales are falling, but you can be damn sure I will never buy this again with the amount of sugar you guys add. Like why? Why 50% sugar... seriously, this panchan candy bar nonsense makes no sense! #2. What happened to organic natto? Like bruh. You only had 1 brand left that was organic. Sure I could go to Nijiya and have a choice of 2, but I'm disappointed you guys stopped carrying the only organic natto you had.

I was excited to see that they now have a "Vegan Vegetable Mandu" offering in the hot food section. I had to grab both options to test them out : Unlimeat Kimchi Mandoo and Unlimeat Vegetable Mandoo. Each package has 8 pieces and a packet of shoyu. After trying both, the kimchi version won me over a bit more. The other option is lighter in flavor, and I'm a fan of bold and spicy food. Adding the shoyu helps, but I could easily eat all the kimchi ones alone. I'm not sure I'd get them often, but I like having an option in the grab and go section for when I'm short on time and hungry. They also added some Pulmone vegan-friendly microwave dumplings to the frozen section, so I got those too. I noticed some plant-based bulgogi kimbap in the frozen section, but I decided to skip them because I'm iffy about the textures of frozen kimbap. I love when grocery stores have vegan-friendly options! I hope this means they'll start adding more vegan-friendly options in the grab and go hot food section. A tofu and veggie rice bowl would be nice!
