The Lychee martini was absolutely incredible!! we ordered the Chi dinner for two with Mongolian beef and lemon chicken. The texture of the chicken and the beef were very chewy and underwhelming. I couldn't even cut my chicken with my fork! The ambience is absolutely amazing. I found the service to be a little bit overwhelming and intrusive. Chi is not bad for Chinese food in Reno but I'm from the Bay Area and SF Chinatown is known for the best Chinese food so it sets a high standard. If the chow foon had more flavor it would be a 5-star. The steak with the chow foon was excellent quality. However, I wish the year of the dragon cake was offered year around. Had high hopes for this place but the experience was underwhelming, especially for the price point. We ordered a clay pot for $38 but it was obvious that they tried to cut costs by mixing button mushrooms in with the shiitakes. If I'm paying $38, I'm expecting real shiitakes. The lychee dessert was just a handful of canned lychees over crushed ice with a few maraschino cherries. The egg rolls and hot and sour soup were good. The decor was good. Almost exactly one year later Diane and I were back for another Cantonese feast, and we were not disappointed. This time we opened with a large bowl of Seafood Tofu Soup, with numerous tiny but plump shrimp, scallops, fish fillets, Tofu, some egg whites, and a few cut up carrots and Snow Peas. Crispy Vegetable Spring Rolls were golden, suitably crisp, and not greasy at all. And large Pan Fried Pork Pot Stickers were perfectly prepared, juicy, and compliantly accompanied by all of the products I rather boldly demanded: Pot Sticker Sauce, ginger, Hoisin Sauce, Chinese Chili Oil, and Sweet & Sour Sauce, plus unrequested Hot Mustard. After these excellent preliminaries, Diane enjoyed some giant Honey-Glazed Walnuts joined by very large Fried Prawns with tails still on. She requested and quickly received extra Honey Walnut Sauce. Meanwhile, I ordered and greatly delighted in eating large lean slices of chicken in off-menu Chicken Chow Mein, and Shrimp Fried Rice enhanced by clusters of Fried Egg. Our server was late on supplying an initial Diet Coke but okay on providing needed refills of same and more Jasmine Tea without the need for any requests. Actually, service was excellent in light of the restaurant being woefully understaffed on the night we dined here. And the ambiance was as comfortable and opulent as before. We made the mistake of ordering two dishes that were listed as spicy: spicy pork; and chicken with peanut sauce. Both dishes had too much vinegar and spice. Stunning Asian restaurant. My sons and I came here to celebrate the Lunar New Year. The crystal chandeliers were sparkling. My pictures did the restaurant a disservice it was breathtaking. The wait staff were very accommodating. Food came out quickly. We had the cream cheese ragoons for an appetizer (forgot to take a pic). They were so good! I had the steamed sea bass with scallions and ginger. One of my favorite dishes. My sons had a typical Chinese American dish - orange chicken and General Tsaos chicken. They did taste good as I snuck a bite ;-) Had a really fun time with family. The service was great. Price was awesome with the local's discount. Scenery was stunning and service was A++. The food, was exactly what we were looking for but unfortunately, we aren't accustomed to family style dining and we ordered way too much. If you eat here, remember this so you don't order too much. Noodles, rice, chicken, beef... all of it was really good. The fried rice had great flavor. The only set back was I prefer the rice a little fluffier. My favorite was the roast pork with soft noodles- I'm having a hard time finding this kind of dish in town and it hit exactly what I was looking for. The beef noodles with soy sauce were also a show stopper - for their flavor and the beef's tenderness. The soup was great for the weather, definitely recommend the hot and sour. Chi is located in the Peppermill @ Reno, and since it was an Asian restaurant (I love Asian food) I wanted to try it. Turns out I was actually notified by my father prior to going that it was located on the outskirts of the Casino. We already booked a reservation so I still went regardless since we went to Chi for a celebratory dinner. On the way to the place, it smelt absolutely awful due to it being right outside of the Casino. In the casino there are many smokers and I don't smoke (or gamble either), so it was already hard to deal with the smell first thing even before entering the restaurant. I am happy with the fact that Peppermill at least has some ventilation to minimize the smell of smoke in the restaurant, but it clearly wasn't enough. The location of this restaurant is a COMPLETE design fail. Since the restaurant is located outside of the casino, there was a lingering smell of smoke even INSIDE of the restaurant which smelt horrendous. I understand Peppermill cannot filter it completely, but maybe they should have not placed this restaurant right next to a smoking area. For one, the restaurant actually had no doors to enter so it was completely open to any smoke. The smoke was ruining the dinner, and even so I could taste some of the particles in my food. I understand this is not the restaurant's fault but they could at least do something about it. I was very disappointed with my experience since I have been staying at Peppermill and enjoy it here. I will not be coming back again. On a high note, the mock tail I got was good, the service was excellent, and the food was delicious. But my lungs aren't worth the taste of good food, sorry. read more

Love this place :) more authentic than most Chinese food places in town. Servers are very nice and helpful. Had dinner with family and we had Miriam serve us and 2 thumbs up for the service. Our water glass was never empty.Had the broiled pork in clay pot and it as yummilicious! Lots of veggies and pork was soft and flavorful. Calamari was gooood! Sometimes when you can get a same day reservation, you have reservations, lol. We were pleasantly surprised!!We ordered a preset menu-we got the appetizer, our choice of entrees and dessert. We have been coming here for years, I love the feel and ambience. The food and the service has always been great. But this visit was different. Our server was all over the place but not at our table. Our drinks would be gone and we had to look for her. I actually never did get a second drink. She recommended the duck, we opted to try it, it was not good. First time at Chi. First impressions---it's a beautiful restaurant (in the Peppermill Hotel and Casino) with amazing decorative details which creates an elegant ambiance. The service was also nice, friendly and very professional. The staff is trained well in customer service and they work well as a team. Our friends ordered a variety of dishes: egg drop soup, sweet and sour pork loin, shrimp in lobster sauce and a vegetable dish. They enjoyed their dishes. My hubby and I ordered egg drop soup (5/5), tofu with Chinese mushrooms and snow peas (4/5) and veggie fried rice (4.9/5). The soup was simple but really delicious, the tofu dish had lots of tofu with a sweetish sauce, and the veggie fried rice was delightfully full of vegetables. Overall my hubby and I thought the food was good with good quality ingredients and prepared well. (But we are truly spoiled and enamored by our most favorite Chinese bistro in town that serves the most amazing dishes and nothing compares to their level of deliciousness.) It was a fun evening trying something new in a gorgeous atmosphere. Tough though to have to go through the casino, through crowds of people and the smokiness of the casino floor. But once in the restaurant, that all thankfully disappears. Probably would come again for a special occasion as they can easily handle bigger groups and their egg drop soup was excellent. This is quickly becoming one of my new favorite spots to meet my girlfriends. Lately, we've been meeting at the bar/lounge inside of Chi, having a couple cocktails, and ordering dishes to share. It's very cozy and fairly quiet most of the time. The menu is rather extensive so everyone can find something they like. If you have a player's card the prices are reasonable. read more

Our server was ok she was barely seen but friendly when she was with us. The food was just ok being that it was on the pricier end. One out of two drinks we had was good. The next day we saw a billboard that locals get a discount and were locals but we were never offered that option. That would've been nice to have since our bill for three was over $100. Everything was better than expected. Customer service is superb. The manager is circulating. The food was wonderful. The drinks were wonderful. Higher than average prices. We really wanted to like this place, but I would say it is just kinda mid. We had reservations at 7:30. We were seated immediately in an almost empty restaurant. The restaurant was decorated beautifully in an orient far east theme. Lots of chandeliers and red accents. We waited 15 minutes for someone to come and take our drink order. We ordered the pineapple margarita and the China Peach. We waited another 10 or 15 minutes to order our food. We got the China Dinner for two. This came with an appetizer plate and a choice of two entrees and gelato at the end. The appetizers came out before we got our drinks. Almost 30 minutes after we ordered the drinks. Both were super sweet. The margaritas was not drinkable. We sent it back and got a worse alternative. I really have never had a margarita that I could not drink. I found two today. The spring rolls were good. The chicken wings were very tasty and crispy. The wonton was nothing to write home about. We had the Mongolian beef and the Kung Pow Chicken. Both were alright. Very nice interior and great service, but the food leaves a bit to be desired. I don't think anything here is cooked in a wok. There's no wok hei in anything stir fried. For example I ordered some stir fried shrimp last night and I'm pretty sure the shrimp were just cocktail shrimp w the tails off. No wok sear no crispy edges. A little disappointing. Same thing w the fried rice. Dishes like generals chicken or lemon chicken use huge chunks of chicken breast that make eating the pieces a task. Really should be using thigh meat. If it wasn't for our kind server, I would have given this place a 1-star rating! I've been a regular at Chi Restaurant at the Peppermill Reno, but after tonight's experience, I'm seriously considering never returning. We usually use our weekly food voucher to cover part of our bill, but when we tried to redeem it tonight, the system was down. The server was very understanding and apologetic, suggesting we head to the rewards desk to resolve the issue. The supervisor at the desk printed new vouchers, but when we returned to Chi, the vouchers still didn't work. Then the manager, Patrick, stepped in and told me I'd need to go back to the rewards desk again for new vouchers. I asked if he could simply override the issue, especially since it was a computer glitch, but he refused and said it was something I'd have to deal with myself. His tone was far from friendly--more like I was bothering him. He made no effort to assist further, nor did he offer to make a quick call to sort things out. I felt completely brushed off, and it's hard to understand how someone with 17 years of experience as a manager could be so dismissive. The lack of customer service was incredibly disappointing, especially given my loyalty to the restaurant. This experience has definitely left a bad taste, and I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon. read more

I really enjoy this Chinese restaurant located inside Peppermill. They have generous portions and flavorful food. I always go with the intent to try something new. Just to end up lying to myself AGAIN. I order my usualy general chicken with steamed rice. It is so hard to order something else due to the fear of it not tasting as good as when I order something that I know tastes so delicious. We admittedly had a small sample to rate - the egg flower soup was very good, the veggie fried rice was solid, and the tofu with mushrooms and snow peas was decent. Our friends enjoyed their sweet and sour pork and shrimp in lobster sauce. The price point is a bit high for the food, but right on for the level or service and atmosphere. Still, regular beers starting at $10 a bottle is absurd, and since when is Tsing Tao a premium beer? Still, after all that, Peppermill has it right by offering a locals discount, and that makes a second trip much more likely. read more

Decided to check out Chi based on the reviews. First off, the restaurant is simply gorgeous. It's very upscale and reminds you like you are in a big city. Linda was my server and she was super nice. I didn't get his name but even the host at the door was nice and talkative and made you feel very welcomed. For food, I bought the pan fried pot stickers. They were good and the sauce was a nice added flavor. They were however, a little burnt on the outside skin but other than that, no complaints. I also ordered shrimp with broccoli and steamed white rice and added chicken. Again the food was good however the chicken was slightly chewy and I had to add a little soy sauce for flavor but, it was a decent dish. I ordered a mock tail as well (sorry can't remember the name of it) and even though it was a pretty drink, it was a little too sweet for me. It was supposed to mimic a mojito but was far from that. All in all Chi was decent...nothing spectacular but the decor and the service was top notch. read more

Ask for Kay! He is the best. Loved the ambiance here. Decor is really cute with chandeliers throughout. We ordered the cucumber melon fizz, and it was served in the most unique glass I have ever seen and it was delicious. We opted for the Chi dinner: beef brocolli and for the second entree an upgrade to general beef. Big portions, everything was flavorful and freshly made. We enjoyed a birthday dinner at Chi, our first time here and recommended by a friend. Upon entering a couple chatted with us coming out and we asked their favorites which they responded everything is good here including the green tea ice cream. We were pleasantly surprised by our friendly waiter Kay, who made the experience even better with his exuberant personality and genuine nice way with people. He asked if we were celebrating a special occasion which in fact we were and he made the night even more special by his wide smile and attentive service. He helped select Sake, and accommodated our pescatarian friend with options as well as suggesting many of our regular Chinese favorites. It was great that the entrees came with rice and locals get a 20% discount with Peppermill rewards. The service wasn't the greatest, as we did feel ignored after our food was served. I usually eat at the bar here. The food is delicious, and the service is excellent. I don't eat much Asian food, so I don't know how authentic it may be, but I love the flavor and the portions. Romanza was closed and we were getting really hungry so we decided to check this place out. They told us the earliest we could sit is at 8, so we went to gamble for a bit before coming in. Service: 2/5 We were offered water and tea when we sat down. I asked if tea was free and he said no so we just got water. We didn't get a drink menu so I don't know the cost. Waitress came by and took our order. Didn't say much. When I asked if rice was included, she said yes. When the food came, she checked in on us a minute later and then we never saw her again until another employee cleared our table. We made eye contact a lot of times but she ignored us. We also asked if the free cookie at the end had peanuts and she just said she doesn't know. She knows almond but don't eat it. I've never had anyone just say no idea and not bother asking for allergen info, but oh well. Food: 2/5: I ordered the spicy eggplant dish. The eggplant was tough and the dish was more sour than spicy. Overall not that great. It was edible and rice was included though. Someone mentioned unlimited rice but our waitress didn't say anything about it and also never came so I have no idea if that is true. Overall, I would not come back. We had some birthday comps to use and we had been there once before and decided to go back. I generally order Generals chicken but this time chose Lemon Chicken. It was delicious! My wife ordered Cashew Chicken since decided to do the 2 person dinner. We started with appetizers spring roll, wings, Rangoon. Then we had the main dishes. It was another great meal and we took some home even though I always eat more than I should! We ended the meal with a hot towel wipe down and palette cleanser ice cream. I had pineapple. The service was amazing, our waitress was pure sunshine and the manager circulated the entire restaurant and was very caring of our experience The cocktails were beautiful and tasty. We were here for Chinese New Year. Hot and Sour soup was really good. All prawn dishes we got had big prawns. Sauté spicy green beans were great ! The only thing I didn't care for was the Mongolian beef. It definitely has Chinese five spice in it and I hate the licorice flavor of it , so I'm really sensitive to it. Drinks were good too. They just changed the names of the drinks but it is the peach one with vodka. That one was great. We had a quirky wonderful server. A little on the pricey side but not outrageous. We had 4 people but ordered a ton ! 2 apps , soup, 3 dishes plus 2 dishes off of the special chines new year menu and it was about $245 ( the special menu was more pricey then regular ) Beautiful table set up! I didn't expect to be so impressed with this place. While the Peppermill has also been a solid choice for great restaurants, Chinese fare in Reno is often hit or miss, generally leaning to the sugar laden western palate. We were fortunate to dine here as the Chinese New Years specials were first out on the menu. Aside from the food the service was amazing. We began with cocktails, staring with the Asian Mule which was good but nothing spectacular. Our appetizers included the Hot and Sour soup, which was flavorful and not overly hot to the point where your taste buds just give up, as I've experienced in many Asian restaurants in the area. We also had the pot stickers and calamari. The potstickers were delicious, served with a salty umami sauce. The calamari was ok, served with a trio of basic sauces that reminded us of deconstructed "Chang" sauce. I would recommend both, but they're pretty nondescript. For the entrees we mainly ordered off the specials menu. As wonderful as these were the true star of the meal was the spicy green beans. They are served perfectly al dente in a salty sauce with the perfect amount of garlic. We didn't order any of the specials for dessert as the Peppermill has a great selection of sorbet and gelato so we stuck to the classics. Over all I'd highly recommend this restaurant for both the food as service, as well as the atmosphere. The prices are reasonable and actually less than than the local chain shops, all things considered. read more
