We usually go to Chi 3 to 4 times a year. We and our friends always enjoyed the food; but this time around things were changed. The prices has gone up which is understandable. Here's one thing that I hate about Reno Yelp. You get cheapskates who come on here and complain about pricey food. Their standard is Panda Express, and no, the food here doesn't taste like Panda Express. Why don't you go outside your comfort zone and try some real Chinese food. I'm sure hardly any Yelper here tried their braise abalone, fish maw, sea cucumber, lobster, crab, sole, or bass. "Oh, the General's Chicken wasn't fried enough," you donkey if you want cheap General's chicken go to China Diner. It's just because this place is in a casino people expect cheap, Americanized Chinese food like in a cafeteria or something. I don't like casino dining, trust me, but this is one of the best Chinese places in Reno along with Caio Oriental Cafe and Peoney. I've dined at the Peppermill for years, and have eaten at every restaurant in the place since 2005. The food here is OK, but leans towards the conservative western palate: it's all rather bland. The Peking duck was just average, nothing to write home about, but good; the meat and skin were well prepared, but a bit more fat than I like, and I prefer a darker crisp to the skin. The chow fun noodles had a sparse assortment of seafood, and the noodles were disappointingly mushy. What really left a really bad taste in my mouth however, was the server. Appropriately enough, his name tag read "D" (although "F" is more like it). "D" was one of the rudest waiters I've ever experienced in Reno (I've eaten at 1-5 star restaurants, and have to admit he takes the prize as the worst). He was extremely curt with all of his answers, and gave you the impression that he had other more pressing matters to deal with (perhaps he was an International Commodities speculator and this was just his moonlighting gig!?). At any rate, he couldn't be bothered with piddly questions about the menu. I should have judiciously studied the menu and committed it to memory before stepping foot in the place...how dare I?! I dared to ask one other question (bringing my tally to two), but no more, lest I draw the ire the Peppermills own "Soup Nazi"! If you ever encounter "D", just remain calm, keep your eyes down, order quickly, and for heavens sake, DON'T ASK QUESTIONS!! In all seriousness, the better approach would be to change waiters straightaway...really. To their credit, the rest of the staff seemed really friendly, it's just a pity that who we ended up put a real damper on what would have been a pleasant experience overall. I'd really like to give this place ZERO stars but that is not an option here, bummer. We ordered the "Chi Dinner for Two"... I started with a Strawberry Daiquiri for a drink and knew this was going to go downhill from that moment on! First off, a Strawberry Daiquiri should have some kind of STRAWBERRY flavor, no? This thing tasted like orange/pineapple juice, eeeeech! They put a cherry on top of a mountain of whipped cream... there was NOTHING 'strawberry' about it! The best thing about the appetizer was the 'rangoon crab' thingy... love those, but there was NO crab in there, veggie spring roll was soggy and gross and the chicken wings were bland, more eeeech! I ordered the 'chicken w/ seasonal veggies' which was gross, it had this paste-like sauce that just was disgusting, double eeeeech! We also had the Szechuan Spicy Shrimp which had a disgusting paste-like sauce on it as well. You could taste the corn starch in it! I had plain white rice and my date had brown rice. ALL the food was 'warm', not hot at all, not appetizing. It was GROSS, GROSS, GROSS... in my opinion. I could of gone to Egg Roll King and had a better meal! I give this place 1 star only because it has a nice ambiance to the place but the food absolutely sucks! Locally we have so many great options for Asian Cusine but we decided to try this out just for the heck of it...but sadly we regretted going. The potstickers were in egg roll wrappers and tasted bad. When asked to make the food spicy and omit certain things in our dish no one even bothered to comply to that. Staff was prompt with drinks and getting us seated but don't care how you get your food and given the food sucks, take your money and appetite else where. We arrived today around 8:40- ish for a late dinner and we wanted to know if we could still be served because they close at 9:30. And I know that you know that when you arrive late at certain places, especially near closing time...they just don't want you there...people vacuuming the floor, sounds of stacking dishes, not to mention the less than enthusiastic waiter/server... Etc. Etc. This was not the case here at Chi. We were greeted with a big smile by our hostess and we were given the 5 star treatment. Excellent customer service. My husband loved his meal. He had General's Chicken and I had the Beef Ginger/Onion dish with white rice. We even shared Chicken Chow Mein! The food was fresh, piping hot, and so damn delicous! The meat was soft and juicy. Very good portions. The place is beautiful and it was clean clean. They even box up your leftovers in a neat bag. I was apprehensive about coming here to this restaurant based on some of the negative reviews that I read on Yelp. I am glad that I didn't listen to their complaints and gave them a try. This was our first time here and this place will now be our place to get Chinese Food. We really had an enjoyable dining experience. Chi is located inside the Peppermill. read more

The food here is very good. I like the general chicken, the chicken and corn soup, and the chicken with seasonal vegetables. I didn't think the chicken with cashew was as good as the other options. The cup of soup is actually a bowl, and is a good deal at $3. The portions are large, and the service is also excellent. The prices are a little high-seeming, with most entrees in the $14 range, However, each entree is large enough for two people of normal appetite, and they will bring you however much rice you want no extra charge. The service is very good and the ambiance is excellent. The restaurant is located inside the Peppermill, but be advised they are closed wednesdays and thursdays. We will be back! read more

My husband and I have dinner at Chi whenever we visit Reno. Chi is a five-star restaurant all around: the service is wonderful and attentive, the decor and table settings are beautiful and the food is absolutely delicious. There is great attention to every detail in the food at Chi: each component of every dish is well thought out. We had wonderful service from Minh tonight and were warmly greeted by Patrick, the Manager. We had Kung Pao chicken and beef with asparagus. Last week we happened onto Chi while at the Peppermill Casino. What a wonderful surprise! The food, the ambiance and service were all excellent and exceeded out expectations. We had the dinner for two with entrees of Sweet and Sour pork and Beef and Broccoli. We were full half way through the meal but kept eating because the food was so unbelievably tasty. We both agreed that this was the best Chinese food we have ever had. When in Reno, this will be one of our regular stops. Oh and one more thing - the both of us had drinks and this special meal and our bill was still under $100. For an upscale place, this was real value for our money. read more

We had the most incredible dinner here. We were here with friends and ordered the dinner for 4. That gave us appetizer plate, white and brown rices and 4 entrees which we got to choose. I want to start my review by saying it has NOTHING to do with the quality of the food. We sat Down at this nice restaurant on Saturday 03/26/2016. Party of 5; 3 adults 2 children. We ordered some wine and beer and all were very good. Calamari appetizer was very good as well. We placed the food order. We ordered the Won-ton soup for my daughter, Broccoli beef for my son, I ordered the four seasons, my husband ordered the three delight, and my mom ordered the Mongolian beef. Our food arrived in a fair amount of time not to long not too soon. First off everyone's order arrived except my sons broccoli beef, the waitress said they forgot it and it would be out soon they are going to make it right away/right now. My mom and husbands plates were served cold, as if they had been sitting for a while. Literally they were almost cold like they had been in the fridge. My meal and my daughters soup were a good temp and tasted good, from the few bites we were able to take. We alerted our waitress that we got cold food. We wanted them remade fresh and told her that we don't want cold food NOR do we want it put into a microwave and re-plated. She took both of their plates to the kitchen. She came back to our table within 2 minutes (that is being fair to them Id say id was more like 1 minute) with Mongolian beef and the three delight STILL NO BROCCOLI beef for my child. Not sure how they can "remake fresh" two plates within that amount of time and still not bring out the one they originally forgot and were making right now/right away, per her words. So we asked to speak to the manager. At this point it seemed a little fishy to us and that not the quality service we want to pay for. The manager (dare I call him that with the attitude he showed to us) Patrick Lau (I am pretty sure his last name was possibly leau or lea? was pretty irate by the time I decided to look at his name tag) came to us with the body language of WTF do these people want? He proceeded to ask us the problem and we calmly told him what had transpired with our dinner order. He then basically rolled his eyed and threw his hands/shrugged his shoulders at us. He talked back to us with such disrespect and talked down to us as if we were trying to get over on the restaurant or get something for free, when it was THEIR MISTAKES that caused this in the first place. We told him that our food came back to us too fast to be "remade fresh", and we thought it was odd that we still hadn't rcvd my sons order but were able to have two orders "redone fresh" for us and still not get the one for the CHILD that was forgotten. He smugly looked at us all and said " you can come look at my kitchen, we don't us microwaves". When we questioned how our food came back so quickly he couldn't give us any answer other than "come look at my kitchen we don't use microwaves" he repeated this too us numerous times but never answered our question. He was extremely disrespectful, did not treat us with any kind of respect for people about to drop 200+ dollars on dinner in his "upscale Chinese" restaurant. He said he would pay for the two dishes that were brought to us cold, but we said no, that is not why we are complaining, we want food cooked and served at a temperature that is enjoyable (we all know how cold Chinese food tastes even if it is good quality) He continued to challenge us and raise his voice to talk over us, talk back, smirk, and even laugh, and then look around at other patrons in the restaurant for gratification on OUR issues. We said we don't want any of this food, got up and walked out. Mind you at this point he had entered a shouting match with us instead of being a manager in CUSTOMER SERVICE industry and try to make us happy. We were willing to stay and eat out food, and PAY FOR IT ALL MIND YOU had they been polite and rectified our issues. Instead he acted like a spoiled brat and as if we shouldn't have had an issue with TWO cold plates of food and One forgotten plate of food, that still never came to us over this 5 minutes argument BTW. Later that night he was walking around the casino and saw me and my husband sitting by the sport betting and again shugged his shoulders at us and said sorry. I would not recommenced this restaurant simply on the premises that Patrick works there and if you have an issue he will basically mock you in the face and make you feel as if you are in the wrong for wanting food you are paying for done right!! Thankfully when I alerted the Peppermill management they handled the situation like true professionals and made up for Chi restaurants short comings and disrespect. I will never go there again and I have already told everyone that has asked about our trip who bad of an experience we had. read more

There was a bachelorette party four tables down with about six females in slutty dresses and that's where our waiter was the entire time. Needless to say, we did not tip. Really rude customer service. We made reservation for Christmas night for 7:30PM. Somehow they had us down for 7:00 instead. When we reached their they told us that we need to hurry up since we were late. We agreed thinking that maybe we messed up the time on our end. As soon as we sat at the table, a server rushed to take the orders. He said we need to order right away since we were late. Were we supposed to memorize the menu? After asking for few more minutes, we started ordering. Now he was so rude - he wouldn't tell us any details about the menu. When we paused for just a few seconds to think about a soup choice, he looked at other guests, threw his hands in the air and gestured - are u really ready to order? Like he can't be bothered with any questions or delays. He kept making more remarks that finally was the last straw. We had to walk out of that place without eating and find another place to eat instead. The manager was no help as well. Made dinner reservation here last weekend for me and 3 of my close friends. We were promptly greeted by 2 lovely hostess we were then seated and waited for our waiter to greet us which took about 10 minutes (at this point there are only 3 other tables eating). Finally we ordered our martinis and appetizers. Another 10 minutes later are drinks come out with our appetizers, we put in our order for food. 20 minutes later we are done with our drinks and appetizers and as we are waiting patiently for our waiter to come and ask us if we would like another round of drinks, passes us by then again. I start looking around the restaurant and notice there still isn't more guest and they all have their food and we still don't have ours or another set of drinks. At this point I am super upset this isn't a cheap Chinese restaurant, its very expensive so you would think to get top notch service but that's just not the case. Finally, I tell the next person walking by I need to speak with your Manger. The manger then comes to our table and we tell him exactly how horrible the service is, he then says oh I'm sorry. Um, sorry isn't good enough! He then gets another round of drinks for us but doesn't comp anything off the meal. Really disappointing, will never come back to this place, there are way better restaurants in the Peppermill!! read more

A perfect dining adventure. When I called for the reservation, they inquired if we were celebrating anything special, such as a birthday or anniversary. A good sign. When we arrived we were greeted and seated immediately in a booth as we requested. The room is opulent and lush, and very comfortable. Our waiter was very attentive, but never intrusive. Cocktails were large and well crafted, no Barbie doll accessories here! Being a plant based diet person, I was attracted by the large vegetable section. I had the eggplant and also ordered rice noodles with veggies. Both were very tasty and cooked perfectly. My spouse had the duck, and she said she never had so much duck ever on a plate and said it was perfectly prepared. There was more food than we could eat. We ordered a glass of wine near the end of the meal and had a generous pour. We've always felt the Peppermill was a first class resort and are happy to see an all around solid Chinese restaurant on their property. One more thing, as we enjoyed our meal we also were able to meet the manager, who was circulating throughout the restaurant checking in on each table to thank patrons and make sure everything was going well. What more can I say? This place is all anyone could possibly want in a Asian dining experience. We will be back! read more
