Pretty good fried chicken at the gas station, yep thats the truth. This Chesters Chicken is located inside the Chevron station and its well worth the effort to stop. The chicken is tender and crispy golden brown nicely battered, decent size pieces freshly made. Its busy so there is hot fresh chicken always coming out. I've stopped in a few times now and its always been fresh hot, good, decent portions of golden fried chicken. There is a nice selection of side dish choices as well, mashed or wedged potatoes, great coleslaw, etc. if the meal combo is your deal. From a single piece to a bucket full, with biscuits or not, this gas station chicken shack is where its at. Well worth the stop don't let the gas station exterior fool you. OK, yes - it's at a gas station. OK, you only have limited choices. HOWEVER - at Chester's Chicken - you get GREAT CHICKEN! Really, so so so glad we took a risk and stopped there at the end of a long day driving up the 101. I just really had a hankering for fried chicken (I am from the South, so when I have the longing - I am really fussy as to what makes the standard!) and Chester's was, sure enough - great, crispy, fresh fried chicken for a great deal. We just got ours to go, b/c we expected it to be at a gas station. Which was no problem. They were friendly and it was quick. The Students at Humbolt much love this place! A funny, but true story to help you to decide to go here or not: My roommate and I went through a phase where we would go here about 2 times a week for a couple months. They have a 9-piece meal with potato wedges and a 24oz drink for $4.19.The chicken is great, but the price made it a cheap and quick dinner option. So, one afternoon my buddy and his wife called me and ask what I was doing for dinner. I told him we were going to Chester's Chicken and invite him to come along. I heard him yell to his wife, "Hey hun, do you want to go to Chester's Chicken for dinner?" To which she responded, "The gas station?" Then my friend says to me realizing I indeed meant the gas station, "Nah man, I don't want to eat at a gas station." Moral of the story - this is a great place to grab some chicken on the go in fried whole pieces or nugget form, but this is not a restaurant or a usually dinner option. If you get the meal, don't get the mac and cheese, the container is about 4oz and if you get wedges you get about 10oz. Also, be nice to the attendants. They get a lot of flack, but some of them have been cooking amazing chicken for years! They close up shop around 8 or 9pm and put all the leftover food into containers at a reduced cost. Walked in at 430 and there was only one piece of fried chicken left and they said they wouldn't make anymore.

This place is fantastic. The workers here bust their ass, as this is likely the only fried chicken spot in the area besides Winco/Safeway (so you've got supply and demand). The food is excellent--I'd put up there on a level with Popeyes, be sure to get the mash & gravy and biscuits, they are mouth melting. WHY Humboldt lacks in franchise locations is beyond me. We can have a million coffee shops, burger joints, sporting goods stores (wait, you can't eat those but still) & no fried chicken locale? So if you're a fried food fanatic as yours truly, hit this place up and go easy on the workers, they do a damn good job on the food for a gas station! read more

A great quick-stop spot for chicken located inside the Chevron gas station. For the fact that it is located inside a Chevron, I was impressed by the quality of chicken. I haven't tried Chester's much in the past, but it is on par the major chain you see out there such as Popeyes or Church's easily. With a decent variety of options for combos and items, it is a trustworthy spot for chicken during the earlier hours of the day. My only complaint would be that I went at night not long ago to try their chicken, only to find out that they were out of chicken for the night and I would have to come back tomorrow :(. Apart from that, I would definitely recommend Cheaters for anyone in a tight spot for food, or for anyone who just really loves chicken. read more

Not that we cleared that fart outta the room on to the meat of this review. I have to give it to that chetah Chester, not only can he make a delectable cheeto but he also fries a damn good chicken. Now I'm not sure how it is in the wild but I'm pretty sure the only reason he serves dem gizzards is that he won't eatem hisself. I tested this theory by giving one of those over fried crunchy abc gum wads to my cat and it stared at me incredulously. So pro tip for ya. Its pretty good for chicken however don't expect to sit down and eat, it is in a gas station. I went there hoping I could get some nuggets and they wouldnt count every single individual piece so I would get some extra however they did indeed count every piece so don't expect to get any more than you paid for. All around though, a good deal and good chicken. read more

OK. Went to this place exclusively because I read Michael Al's review here on yelp. Great story. So, yes it is a gas station. If you were looking for a chicken place and you follow Google maps directions you will get there and think you are in the wrong place. It's a gas station. When you walk in, to the left of the cash register is a display case with fried chicken. You can get nuggets or pieces individually. I think we paid about four dollars for two pieces of chicken plus a side plus a drink. And damn it was good. As for the ambience? It depends entirely on what car you are driving. Because there is no where to sit. Now the funny thing is as we continued our trip up the coast, we found these chicken places just like Chester's, with the same logo, inside gas station convenience stores, Everywhere. But they all had different names. Like Chuck's or Lil Pete's, or Skitchy's. They are all these little branded fried chicken places inside of gas station convenient stores. I can't vouch for any of them, because even though they have the same logo and appear to be The same, who knows? I can however vouch for Chester's in Arcata, CA. If you got some hankerings or some munchies whilst you are there, take advantage. That is all. read more
