It's a little pricy, but honestly, if you're here, you NEED to try it. I was very surprised to enjoy their iced matcha too! It tasted like authentic matcha and not too watery or milky. We loved Cafe Brio as our morning stop before heading up to the redwoods for hiking. Their coffee was better than other spots we had gone to mornings prior, and we enjoyed the brio classic with bacon on croissant & the summer omelette. We opted to sit outside and were entertained by some of the other customer's dogs on the patio and we got to enjoy the cool weather. This is a casual place where you can go up to order your food at the cashier, grab a number, and they'll call your name to grab your food and coffee. The cafe is in a great location of the Arcata plaza square, so we were able to walk by some of the nearby shops. This is a great location if you're looking for some casual breakfast food in the area. I came with my friend on a weekend for brunch. I've heard great things about this place and have been wanting to try for a while! You order at the front desk and then get a number, which I wasn't expecting. Nonetheless the service was relatively fast. The interior was very cozy and I loved seeing all the pastries on display. I got the brio Benedict and my friend got the herb and cheese omelet. We also got mimosas to truly celebrate brunch. I love benedicts and this one didn't disappoint - the hollandaise sauce was delicious and the eggs were poached well! I have been to Cafe Brio a number of times over the years and this place never disappoints. The cookies are always the best! Love their chocolate chip cookie and tea cookies. I visited around 12:30 and it was already fairly crowded with their outdoor seating area but there was more seating inside. They have a wonderful bakery section on display and there's also a coffee bar station as well. They were very busy - and you could tell this place is popular. Great location in the heart of Arcata. Lots of beautiful pastries. When I first arrived I had to wipe my table off since it was covered in crumbs which wasn't great but no big deal. When I ordered my standard drip coffee "for Here" I found myself waiting a while until I realized that a customer behind me got her regular coffee right in that moment from the same cashier. So, I asked if I could get mine as well but she gave a lot of attitude which was pretty unnecessary. I used to be a barista for several years... you should always give the folks who order a regular cup of coffee, their coffee right then and there. Let's be positive first. Brio is a cultural institution and probably the best bakery around. The cold case is also quality. However the restaurant and coffee just haven't been great since about 2020. This review hurts me to write because it used to be my favorite brunch spot. The meals are under spiced ( no salt, pepper, onion powder, or garlic). This would be okay if there were shakers at the tables, but nope, you gotta get that all yourself. Now that you've gotten your food, the coffee is terrible. It's battery acid. I have never left a full cup of purchased coffee before. I did today. This restaurant needs to return to the basics. It has become fancy for the sake of fancy and the "European Experience" at premium prices. If you're going to make me pay for the most expensive brunch in the area, make sure that some aspect of it is the best. As it is, friendly counter people, terrible food, worse coffee. read more

Only place open in the beautiful downtown Arcata district on Sunday afternoon, where you can get the best Craft Beer and openly warm welcome from the professional staffs, who can make one of the better breakfast dishes is now our favorite restaurant to go to! The place is a walking distance from the Humboldt College and is a beautiful place to hang out to eat and drink as well as watching numerous homeless and drugged lost souls hanging around the downtown square! It's too bad that the area has so many people there sifting through the garbage cans, strung out on drugs and frequent this nice little restaurant to come in for the bathroom and free water. Service was fine, it's one of those do it yourself places get your own silver ware and drink. Mainly I was disappointed by my omelette, it was supposed to be herb and cheese but it tasted like neither. I would highly suggest picking a more flavorful cheese and not skimping on the herbs, very bland. I also ordered a side of bacon and it came with two pieces of bacon which was disappointing. Instead, my group and I ordered Sourdough Waffles, Brio Basic with over easy eggs, Herb and Cheese Omelet, and I had some eggs and potatoes. I can report the potatoes were not crispy and raw in the middle and cold. I could not eat them. Decided to take my breakfast home and cook it more. Since you advertise crispy potatoes I was really disappointed they weren't. The bacon was cooked perfectl. We also got a ham and cheese croissant and a jalapeño cheddar croissant, both were excellent. We got a baguette to go, we weren't super impressed with the baguette, but everything else was delicious. Brio has really made an effort to expand their outdoor seating and provide different sizes of tables to accommodate both larger and smaller parties. I had no problem finding a seat in the shade, even during peak lunch hours. Staff are working behind plexiglass and every order comes in a disposable container. Ordering in-person is an option, but Brio has a really convenient online ordering system that is frequently updated with their available items. Grab-and-go sandwich and pastry offerings vary by the day. Online ordering can be set for pickup at a time that you choose - you can order anywhere from hours ahead to 15 minutes ahead! We stopped by Cafe Brio a quick breakfast on the patio before heading to the farmers market across the street. * STICKY BUN This isn't like your typical sticky bun because it's made with croissant dough, so the outside was particularly crisp and flaky. It also didn't feel as gooey as other sticky buns I've had. Nonetheless I enjoyed it and it wasn't sickly sweet. The chopped walnuts add some bite to the otherwise soft pastry. I would've loved to come back the next day to try more baked goods but my partner wanted to try a different coffee shop, whomp whomp.
