05/06/25 - I stopped by here twice before. I was in the neighborhood so i met my sister up here for breakfast. I popped in again & ordered the Chorizo skillet. This came w/chorizo, potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, onions, shredded cheddar cheese & eggs over easy on top. This was all served over a large very thin tortilla. I tour off piece of tortilla & put the pieces of the chorizo skillet on top & popped it into my mouth. It was delicious as usual. My sister ordered a Greek Skillet that came w/chicken gyros, spinach, tomato, onion & feta cheese that looked delicious. The staff @ Cherry Pit Cafe is awesome friendly w/great service. The only thing missing was I was hoping to run into former Chicago Bear Matt Suhey again who I met the last time I was here. Great food, service and an occasional ex Chicago Bear

From the pictures it looked like a cute retro diner. The front has that look, but the back looked like a country cafe. Not what I expected. The food was good. But the service was so bad. We were seated and got to order pretty quickly, but they NEVER came back to check on us even once while we there. I tried to get anyone's attention because my partner had ordered a fruit salad with his omelette and it never came. I had the oatmeal pancakes which definitely were exactly as described.

YES-EAT HERE! Three of us ate here today and we all loved the food. The service was great too! Cute little diner with plenty of variety on the menu. We ordered breakfast, a Turkey Avocado panini and chicken quesadilla w/ house made tortilla chips & salsa. No complaints from any of us. Love a true diner with great food!

Great diner. Used to go here when it was Kevin's Place and went back recently with my family. Kids loved sitting at the counter to watch our food get cooked. I cleaned my plate. I ordered an egg white omelette and it was delicious. They also have cold brew which was excellent. Portions are large so come hungry. Owners now are so nice! Lots of regulars came by for Sat brunch. Ambiance is good, diner feel with black and white checkered floors. Will come back when I'm in the area.

This is a solid, no-frills diner. When I walked in, there was nobody else there but over the course of my meal, two more parties trickled in. The coffee left much to be desired but this is an OK option if you want something basic and fairly fast.

This cute cafe/diner is perfect for an early morning breakfast. We arrived before 9 am on a Sunday, the ideal time because there were many open tables. There's a pretty extensive menu, and one of us went for the Lucy's Waffle special, a crispy Belgian waffle with Nutella, bananas, strawberries, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Another picked the buttermilk pancakes (2) and kept saying that it was cooked perfectly. Normally a light eater, they ate every bit of their pancakes. I ordered the Greek skillet with eggs, chicken gyros, onions, spinach, tomatoes and feta on top of fried potatoes. This was hearty and generously sized. The ambience is similar to a retro diner, with fifties tunes playing. The staff is very welcoming and friendly and our orders were up quickly. It's a little tight to navigate past the counter seating and once the place fills up it can get loud. We had a very enjoyable breakfast and my companions had a great time. They kept telling me how much they loved their breakfast. We'll come back again soon!

Food was good and simple, gave me a sense of nostalgia eating chorizo and eggs tacos. It was a little crowded when we arrived but it was a small space with larger parties so it was definitely expected. Loved the service as all workers were kind!

Not the best place in the world, but food was good for the price. It can be a little loud, and it was cold when we were there.

We were able to get last minute reservations for 8:30 on a Friday, which was surprising given how extremely busy this place is on the weekends. We arrived on time and were seated quickly without a wait, which was another impressive moment given how packed the restaurant was. Dining here is like dining in the city on the weekends, with a majority of the crowd tending toward older groups of friends or families without children. There was one family of four who brought their child with them, but generally we saw couples and groups of friends. Dress seems standardly smart casual. Food: The menu here is organized into three sections: small plates, mid-size meals, and entree-sized portions. Keep in mind the mid-sized plates can be on the larger side, so the tapas-style menu can be deceiving. We ordered the steak and frites and branzino as our mains, with polenta fries on the side. For apps, we ordered the butternut squash ravioli and were greeted with complimentary cheesy biscuits to start. We finished our meal with the olive oil cake, covered in raspberries. Based on what we ordered, we'd give this place a 4/5, simply because the steak my husband ordered was a tiny bit tough and overcooked (ordered medium rare, received medium well). The cut was a strip or a ribeye, so unfortunately on the tougher side, and less flavorful. My fish was nicely seared but the cannellini beans that were paired with the branzino just didn't do it for me. Branzino is a white fish that tolerates spice and garnishes very well, so it could have benefited from some more complex flavors. That said, we will be back for the ravioli. I'd wager that it is the best thing on the winter menu (this place rotates menu selections somewhat frequently). It was creamy, complex, and soft, with a delicious umami sauce. The olive oil cake we shared for dessert was also very delicious, moist and well-paired with simple cream and berries. Nice and simple but did the trick without being overwhelming or cloyingly sweet. The biscuits are also a nice touch: soft and buttery, not dry, and baked fresh. Overall, I'd say that veggie and pasta dishes are the way to go here, and potentially the fish if it is paired with a more complex side in the future. We look forward to future menus!

After dinner we popped into the other side of the bar which is an art gallery and the bartender was so friendly, welcoming and fun! It wasn't so much a speakeasy because it was not hidden, but that didn't really matter to us once we were there . The food was Asian themed and they had different drinks than the other restaurant next-door . I thought the focal point would be a bar in the middle of the restaurant, but there was never any bar that I could locate so that was also confusing. The food was really good. We had black garlic, deviled eggs, some tuna tartare and a lamb Ragu that was really good. So if you're looking for speakeasy, this is not really a speakeasy, but it has really good Asian food so just an FYI when browsing the Internet. The only reason I gave it four stars is because I was expecting one thing when I walked in and I got another, but we were pleasantly surprised with the food and drinks that we received so we will be back.
