Flashback! We've been here*! In 1 word, our brunch was underwhelming. In more words, the food was mediocre and skimpy on the portions. You literally get 2 small pieces of bacon as the side to your eggs, and the chorizo side is baby portioned, like 2 spoonfuls. My skillet had bacon and sausage in it, and neither were cut up, which was a little bit of a cop out and surprise to have whole links of sausage hiding under the eggs. I also barely got any cheese in there. You could whip up a tastier breakfast at home if you felt like it. Our toast was served last, and they make it into kind of a sandwich with melted butter in between. What if you don't want butter premelted on the toast? Lastly, service was slow. Took several minutes for the coffee, described by my husband as "similar to what you'd get on United Airlines" (read: not good), to arrive. Our waiter was MIA except to take our order, despite the diner being only half occupied. Random pics of a women's bowling league/family/bridge get together/book club in the bathroom creeped me out a little. *It was maybe a year and a half or more ago, same restaurant set up and diner feel, but I can't seem to recall the name of the place back then. read more

Take the wrong exit off the 94 and you find this gem! Throw back to diners of the 50's/60's. We had huevos rancheros and the Cherry Pit skillet with a short stack side. Larger, generous portions that taste just like mom used to make. read more

We've got overly-familiar international chains now that are quick and easy and that serve the same safe options every time you drop in - or drive thru - so you can rush in, wolf down, then get on with your busy day. You never see a familiar face, never get to relax, and never get to really enjoy your meal in an environment that hasn't been engineered by corporate psychologists to best get you to eat and move on to free up space for the next customer. Cherry Pit Cafe has nothing in common with those places. Cherry Pit is a welcome aberration in Deerfield, surrounded on all sides by fast coffee, quick microwaved pastries; warmed and ready in the time it takes to check Facebook, and premade plastic-bin to-go meals. Peruse Cherry Pit Cafe's menu and you'll see specialties created by the same folks taking your order, and cooking and serving your food. Familiar faces. Family owned. Real food. And the food you'll get is fresh and delicious. I've mostly had their omelettes and skillets, but they have a full menu of options, from pancakes, to salads, to burgers, to sandwiches and wraps. Even great options for kids, which a lot of places seem to forget about these days. All in a sit-down-and-enjoy cafe environment, complete with counter and quick coffee-refills. If your ever not in a totally scrambling rush, Cherry Pit Cafe is great little place to kick back and enjoy a good meal. read more

(3 1/2 stars) Having spent a fair chunk of time in northern Michigan and northern Wisconsin, I cultivated a craving for anything made with cherries. And, after viewing the mouth-watering photos of Cherry Pit Café's Crunchy Berry French Toast on this page, I just HAD to go there. Like the fictional Emerald City where everything appears emerald green, the predominant color inside Cherry Pit Café is cherry red. Nearly everything in this cute place - walls, curtains, ceiling panels, counter stools, place mats, coffee mugs, and menus - is red. The '50s-ish counter, dinette furniture, and children's crayon drawings displayed on the wall convey a cozy family ambience. So, what could possibly be wrong with this picture? Turns out the berry version of the crunchy French toast is not listed on the regular menu, nor was it available as a Special on the day of our visit. Cherry crepes and cherry pie, diner classics seemingly found anywhere else, were also absent from this menu. Among several menu items titled "Cherry Pit French Toast," "Cherry Pit Oatmeal," etc., none actually contain cherries, fresh or preserved (I didn't bother to ask whether they topped their sundaes with maraschino cherries). Lest anyone else assume that this cherry-centric place is bursting at the seams with cherry comestibles, perhaps they ought to rename it the No Cherry Dairy (snicker!). This experience reminded me of a rib place that had no ribs (a true story!). Oh, well. So, we ordered the plain French toast, both the challah and the crunchy versions. Others in our party ordered omelets, sandwiches and salads. Our server was friendly and efficient, the no-frills food was good, and the portions were ample. Different? Special? This was such a pleasant discovery on a Saturday morning when we were looking for a new breakfast experience. We sat ourselves at the counter, a recent trend for us. I like watching the bustle of the kitchen while we wait, and it's a pleasant way to casually interact with the staff. The menu was impressive and I immediately set my sights on the Mexican omelette. It was a massive open-faced omelette stocked with sausage (you can choose chorizo, of course), onions, jalapenos, cheddar cheese, and tomatoes served on top of a warm tortilla. I don't generally care for food that's spicy but this was so good that I couldn't stop eating it. My husband ordered the chilaquiles, as he does, and devoured his breakfast before declaring it the best he's had. The service was excellent and attentive. It was fun to watch the staff interact with some of the kids, too -- clearly a playful vibe happening here. We'll absolutely be back. This is a gem. read more

We ordered carry out and the food was just okay. I ordered the chorizo skillet, and it was a completely devoid of seasoning. Not a speck of pepper or a dash of salt. I think it relied on the chorizo and cheese for flavor but there was not much chorizo in my portion so I was a little underwhelmed. It was very fresh including the house made salsa and fresh cut potatoes. Also, it's silly but when I saw the name of the restaurant I presumed they had some sort of cherry special on the menu, like black forest cherry pancakes. Probably just me being slow. I was disappointed when I saw no cherries on the menu, but it didn't impact my rating. We went late morning on a Saturday and there was a sizable wait for a table. We ordered carry out. Everything was cooked to order so it stayed hot until we arrived at our destination which was great. I probably wouldn't go back, but I'm sure some other menu items are worth trying. read more

When you walk into this dinner you feel like You are immediately transported to a seventies dinner with food being cooked in front you and bar stools across the long line of kitchen space! The beauty of this simplistic restaurant is in the fact that you feel that nostalgia and seeing the fresh food cooked in front of you somehow makes the food taste even better. I have always found the food to be simple but great tasting. Amazing staff that is friendly and there to please you. Love this joint! read more

Ordered carry out breakfast a few times from this place, mainly getting the chorizo skillet.... I love this menu item. One of the times I came in to pick up carry out they had lost my order in the ether so it was not prepared when I arrived. One of the managers was quick to apologize, got me set up with a free hot cup of coffee as I waited, and even threw in a free stack of pancakes to my order. Small divey type diner with a small outdoor eating area. Great breakfast food with a Mexican mix. I had a skillet that had cheese enchiladas and eggs. I wasn't sure how it was going to taste because I've never had that combination but it was delicious. Portions are good size and prices are very fair. A friend and I stopped by here for a super late brunch (like a half hour before it closed). A lot of people were headed out so the place wasn't busy at the time. We were told to sit anywhere and the waiter took our order about ten minutes after we were seated. The restaurant was not very clean as we spotted quite a few fruit flies during our meal. Our food came in about 15-20 minutes after we ordered. I got the Mexican Omelette w/o Chorizo or Sausage and the Crunchy Berry French Toast. The portion sizes were decent and filling. The Mexican Omelette was plated on a tortilla which I found creative. The omelette contained cheddar, bell peppers, onions and jalapeños. It was served with hash browns. I wish they would've used more spices both on the hashbrowns and omelette as they tasted pretty bland. I ate it with the Cholula sauce which improved the flavor but it still felt like it was missing something (to be fair, it could've just been the sausage and chorizo I didn't want). The toppings seemed as if they were simply chopped and placed on the omelette as opposed to being sautéed which I would've preferred. The Crunchy Berry French Toast was perfect. The cereal added the perfect amount of crunch and texture. The berries were plump and juicy while the whipped cream added just the right amount of sweetness to the dish without making it too heavy. Next time I'm in the area, I'd come by for the French Toast and maybe try the other sweet breakfast items. read more

.No signage except for a small sign on their door, which was not easy to find. Parking was located on the backside of the building but the door was on the opposite side. Inside is your typical diner set up - a small table as you walk in then a long counter along the grill area. Larger area with more seating in the back. Cherry Pit Cafe is an unassuming place compared to many of the other dining establishments you'll find in the area. If you don't look closely, you might miss it. There is no street parking in the front, but there's a parking lot in the back. As you walk in, there is seating right at the counter, in front of their grills. There is table seating as you walk past it. The ambiance is interesting. It's definitely an old school diner vibe. There is nothing fancy about it. The service is great! Everyone there was friendly and service was prompt. Food is tasty! I ordered the chorizo skillet and my husband ordered the breakfast tacos...I THINK they were called Tico's Tacos. He inhaled them before I could even make a dent in my dish...so, I think he liked them! My chorizo skillet was on point! The plus...it's served on a tortilla! You could roll it into a burrito if you want! I thought the tortilla was a nice touch and set it apart from other chorizo skillets I've had. The salsa served with it is good as well! Ridiculous and rude manager who doesn't know what customer service is. I ordered French toasts for delivery from them and got plain toasts without anything! On their menu they have a very nice picture of French toasts topped with strawberries and whipped creams and I got just toasted bread for 6.50+tax! I can do toasts myself at home, isn't it supposed to be a whole meal when you order from restaurants?! When I called to ask a question I was told they serve just toasts.. Thank you no thank you! My husband's breakfast is also a mess.. he asked no onions and they put twice portions of onions!! What's wrong with you there? Drunk on work or what? We are neighbors and often ordered from them and recommended them to our friends but from now never again!! This place changed a lot unfortunately. read more

I had high hopes for this spot but left very disappointed. My crunchy French toast looked nothing like it did on the website or in the pics listed here on yelp. Also, a half order of French toast is 1 slice of toast. Typically it's two at other breakfast spots so I guess that's just a general misunderstanding. That one slice of toast was pretty good tho. My husbands breakfast was decent but nothing to rave about. Service was fine, nothing bad but nothing great. Based on the other reviews, I'm thinking maybe I'm missing something? read more

Tasty place. The front area is like an old-timey diner with seats that go up to a bar. After passing through a very narrow passageway, we opted to sit where the place was roomier. We should have stayed near the front. I think it would have been quieter. Plus we would have gotten to see then cooking our meal. The menu was a little on the different side for us. Especially for breakfast. My husband came in wanting biscuits and gravy, and that wasn't on it. Oh well. I ordered the triple berry crunchy french toast. It had huge, fresh berries on it. Really good...just a tad on the dry side. Which didn't stop me from cleaning my plate. Our service was a little hit or miss. Didn't seem like we were waited on by them same person more than once. This place is not what it used to be when it was called a different name (forgot the previous name). I stopped by for lunch with a colleague and we had the Mexican omelette and Greek omelette. Both were bland and the quality of ingredients were very poor. Place is not as clean either...there was lipstick on my water cup. I took it to the server and he seemed more annoyed than apologetic for the issue. Great spot, very unassuming cafe. My mother in law ordered a chicken gyro sandwich, I ordered the chicken gyro salad, hubby got a patty melt, and kids got a mac n cheese and cheeseburger and they split them. I thoroughly enjoyed my salad, very tasty with a cucumber dressing. The kids got paper and crayons to draw, and after paying, the kids got to pick either a Tootise Roll or Dum Dum. They were thrilled! This was a nice, small, clean establishment and I hope to return someday! read more
