Biscuits and gravy
Karyn M.

This is Highwood's breakfast equivalent to "Cheers," a friendly, casual diner where everyone "knows your name." Who is the "moron" breakfast sandwich named for, I wonder? I ordered the biscuits and gravy with a side of home fries and onions. My companion ordered the two egg breakfast with "Goofy Donna" (lo carb) toast. Our food was fine. The home fries were a little overdone but tasted good. We added the cook's homemade hot sauce to give it a little kick. Goofy Donna is on to something -- that toast was great! The secret ingredient here is the service. The patrons greeted us with smiles and greetings and our server (owner?) set us at ease, made multiple passes with the coffee pot, and made us feel welcome. If you want to get the pulse of the town, hear the latest gossip, all while having tasty, simple diner fare, I think this is the place to start.

The garbage omlette

My husband and I absolutely love Sandy's. We bike from our home to have breakfast here on the weekends. I recommend sitting at the bar only because that's the only place I enjoy sitting. The owner and the rest of the staff are amazing people with great personalities. They are quick to take your order and bring out your food. I never feel forgotten there as they are always checking up on us and topping off the coffee. I always feel at home here. I think that's why I keep going to Sandy's. It reminds me of the local diners at home in Nashville. The place is always clean and we usually happen to run into a neighbor. The food... has never disappointed me here. My husband usually orders the moron and I am fan of their omelettes. Great diner food. The moron though, it's the bread. The sandwich is great all around. I highly recommend. Their omelettes are always fluffy and I change up my topics all of time. The ingredients are fresh. If you're in Highwood in the morning, don't skip this classic diner.

This says it all. Best place the ever. Corned beef hash. Omelette. Fresh. Hot. Great service.

It isn't often I'm in Highwood looking for breakfast, so I've never discovered this gem until now. Though we stopped in only 15 minutes before closing, the women behind the counter served us with warm smiles, efficient service, and delicious food. Both my son and I had egg white omelets, we both agreed some of the best we've had. I'll find a reason to return to this quaint diner, it's the perfect breakfast spot.

Come to Sandy's knowing what to expect, and you will love it! Sandy's is a true diner. A greasy spoon. They serve eggs and bacon, and it is really freaking good! While they have delicious food, this is not your $50 farm-to-table omelet topped with organic hummus from heirloom chickpeas. This is classic breakfast fare done right. Friendly service and great food for an affordable price. That's five stars to me!

My husband kept stealing my potatoes...

I had a Caesar salad, my wife has the French onion soup and a grilled cheese and all items were solid. Also had the Chocolate chip cookies which were awesome. I ordered the croque madame with the fried egg on top, and it was delicious. You can absolutely tell they use real butter--the true French way! My waistline might not thank them, but my tastebuds certainly did. I even brought home an almond croissant for the Hubby and snacked on a cheese and chive scone the next day, and everything was just fantastic. The only little hiccup is that the service can get a bit hectic. The staff seemed a little confused trying to match up the order numbers to the tables, and we almost got run over on our way out by a waiter sprinting to the patio! But even with the fast-paced environment, the food is wonderful whether you eat in or grab takeout. Definitely worth a visit! A much better experience here than MY 1st time. I think it's because they enlarged the dining area with more table space. It's still hard to have a conversation due to the high ceilings which echo the sound.

He did find a table and during the course of our meal there were non-stop arrivals with a few heading straight to the small bar so I'm thinking perhaps it has a strong flow of regular customers. The service was efficient and the dining room has a cozy bistro feel to it. The menu is seasonal. Nothing was calling out to me so I went with the burger and fries. Both were good. Overall we are glad we gave Pixca a try. Before we go again we'll make a reservation and check the menu to see what the current options are.

We arrived very early at a random time, probably right after opening. Everyone was so nice and service was great. The table started with the cornbread, moist and warm. Not as sweet as I personally like (I can't help it I'm southern) but delicious nonetheless. The eggplant hummus wasn't that great to me, loved the bread it came with but I think I would prefer typical chickpea hummus instead. Brussels were so good, probably the favorite thing I tried. For my entree I had a kale salad with added salmon. I liked the crunch and the light vinaigrette. My husband had the seafood risotto which was slightly undercooked. All and all a positive experience and I'd definitely go back if I was in the area.

I don't get why people treat this restaurant like it's some pinnacle of restaurant-ship (not a word…read morebut go with it pls). It's always seemed to me like average food for high prices that they know people here will pay. We went here with out-of-towners, including kids, and it was impossible to get our order taken for a while, maybe 20 minutes. Most restaurants prioritize getting kids fed earlier than adults, since they go to bed earlier. There was no sense of urgency here. Our waiter forgot our drinks and was nice but barely came over to see if we needed anything. Also, it is VERY LOUD. Prepare to ask "what??" over and over, or whatever your version of that is (pardon, say that again, etc.!). People at our table wanted chips with guacamole and salsa. The guacamole fit into a small salad dressing container (the tiny cups). This was barely a sharing amount, but we all got our thimble-ful. The server or kitchen messed up someone else's burger order, so she had to wait a while while everyone else ate. My salad was absolutely fine. It wasn't worth $20. Nothing in it was very interesting. The lettuce was fresh but poorly drained, so I got to have a watery mix of things with dressing. The dressing came in a small takeout container. This isn't fast food, and my badly drained, boring salad was $20. Give me a real dish :P
