After our favorite South Indian restaurant closed, we were in search for a new spot. Chennai Cafe rightly earned its place atop our list! To make sure we were diligent in our assessment, we ordered a lot of food! We mostly eat vegetarian, and had no trouble finding lots of options to choose from. Everything was delicious. To start, the spinach and potato dosa was properly filled, and came with a couple dipping sauces. The yellow dal was delicious. It wasn't at all watery like they sometimes can be. The gobi Manchurian was excellent. A good mix of Indian-Asian seasonings and spices. The mushroom chettynad /chettynadu was rich and delicious. And the veggie biryani was awesome -- so fragrant with spice. Everything was cooked well, seasoned well, full of taste, and warmth. We've heard the lunch buffet is great as well. read more

Great Indian food! Dosa was a large size and very crispy! It comes with 2 chutneys and Sambar. Gobi manchurian was crispy, flavorful and served with yogurt. Got the paneer butter masala as well. That could've been a bit spicier, but wasn't too bad. The restaurant was very busy for Sunday night. The waiters were very nice, however seemed like they were stretched thin so service was a little slow. The restaurant was also a bit small, since it's a café. However, they were able to rearrange tables for my family. They also have a ton of vegetarian options. I would come back again. I would love to try the lunch buffet. read more

Food: We ordered Roti (2), Aloo paratha, Bhindi masala, Kumbakonam coffee, Idly and Paneer butter masala. Paneer butter masala was the best amongst all, they added very few paneer cubes (6 to be precise) and very less veggies such as capsicum and onion. Idly was poorly made and we could barely eat it. Aloo paratha was heavily undercooked. Bhindi in bhindi masala was poorly cooked despite being over-fried(can taste the fibers in my mouth). Service: The service was very slow. They brought out the Roti and paratha long after the bhindi masala, which was odd because we wanted ordered the roti to have with the side. Ambiance was ok, seats and tables can be somewhat cramped when crowded. Overall, an average place to have indian food. read more

One cup for water for three people at a table to share, serve everyone else except my table, went during then buffet, food was cold the staff were constantly trying to light the buffet burners to heat the food, I don't mind the spice but almost every dish had spice so this limits your kids from eating, I was provided service when I was walking up to pay for the buffet because my guests just wanted to leave. No fruit or anything refreshing for dessert unless you like ultra sweet rose milk, they ran out of chutney, I tried flagging down servers 7 times but they were non responsive to me, but hey I got service on the way out and grabbed some stuff to chew on. read more

The food is amazing! Authentic and delicious. The dosa are out of this world and HUGE. We are now regulars.

Such a pity. The dosas are very good. The chili chicken is delicious. Also very good sweet lassi, although the first time I went it was flavourless. And we absolutely love Alekia (sp?). Last week, my wife's dosa was very oily despite her always asking for it oil free. The server initially argued that there must be oil, despite it coming up as requested every other time we went. The replacement had two hairs in it. This was surely because someone in the kitchen objected to the food being returned, and is entirely unacceptable. Sadly, we can't return. You can expect good food here, but don't send anything back if you don't like it! read more

Came here while visiting Scottsdale for NYE weekend. Unfortunately, their online menu doesn't state that lunch is buffet only so we were surprised to see that there was no a la carte option when we arrived. However, the chef agreed to make idli for the kids since the adults were ordering the buffet. This was very kind and we appreciated his efforts. The host was friendly and attentive as well. For $16.99, the buffet itself is a good value -- I enjoyed the rasam and sambhar the most, along with rice and beans poriyal. They also include plain or masala dosa, paratha, paneer masala, Chana, spring rolls, 2 desserts, and condiments. I didn't try the welcome drink, which was a banana milkshake, but my family found it to be refreshing. I was hoping the coffee would be filter coffee, but it was not the case. The idlis were a good size but I found that they were a bit on the dry/harder end. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience with plenty of vegetarian options and a bright, clean atmosphere. These people are the absolute best, I come here all the time with my friends and family members. They consistently make high quality south Indian food, and have even catered to some special requests for me. I love this place and strongly recommend! Here's some dishes I've tried that are 10/10. -Spinach Chicken Curry -Any of the dosas -Pepper Chicken -Chicken Curry -Butter Chicken, this isn't on the menu but they've made it for me on request and this is the best butter chicken in the valley. -Chennai Bhatura I bet there's a ton of other good ones but that's just the stuff I've tried. Went for the weekend buffet. 5-10 minute wait. Diners were mostly Indian which is always a good sign. The buffet had veg/non veg options. Best biryani I've had at a restaurant in town. The dosa was paper thin, crispy and tasty. Buffet selections were varied and refreshed often. The food was slightly spicy which I like but just a heads up. DefinItely worth trying. Easily the best South Indian food I've had in the Valley. We ordered the chicken 65, papdi chaat, masala dosa, rava masala dosa, and some lassi to wash it down and every single item slapped. Big fan of the coconut chutney and the tomato chutney as well. Minus one star because we did have some issues with service - we ordered a thali and repeatedly had to ask for each included item. Food is certainly 5 star quality though and I would recommend this for your dosa fix. read more
