I love this restaurant. Things you see in Chinese cuisine documentaries on Netflix, and wish you too could eat, are here, and they are so delicious! I always get the Hot Wok Chicken (today it came with a flame at the table, oh bubbling goodness). I also get one of the many green veggie side dishes (maybe green beans, tong choy, etc). Lastly, I end it with sesame balls dessert, which are light balls filled with sweet, red-bean paste, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, always served warm. Come and try chengdu if you haven't been here. This is my 4th time. read more

Fantastic takeout and a new favorite for Asian in Edgewater. I highly recommend the Dry Chili Chicken as well as the the Dan Dan Noodles. Also love the Fried Wide rice noodles for a gluten free-ish version of drunken noodles. They are always so nice and inside is pretty okay. Highly recommend for anyone in the area! read more

I'm writing this review as I box up my leftovers. I felt the need to make a review right away after having a fantastic dinner!! My boyfriend is out of town for work, so I decided to treat myself with some takeout. This place in particular caught my eye on Grubhub given I was craving Asian cuisine and enjoy a good level of spice. Always excited to try a new place! I ordered three things: twice cooked pork w/ pancake, sichuan wontons, and the sichuan ice jelly. Omg. Everything was SO GOOD. I'm gonna be honest, I did a bit of a happy dance after trying the wontons because they were exactly what I was craving. Super flavorful. PERFECT amount of spice. Garlicky. I will order this every single time from now on. The twice cooked pork w/ pancake had an option on spice level and I chose medium spicy. Not very spicy in my opinion, so I think it's a safe option for anyone and their grandmother who can't tolerate spice while that one family member (me) still wants a bit of a kick. This dish is a bit salty, but that's what rice is for right? Also whoever decided that scallion pancake can be mixed into a dish is brilliant. Lastly, the ice jelly. I ordered this out of curiosity (and to meet the spending requirement for a coupon haha) and I'd say this little $3.50 delicacy was well worth it. I enjoy a lot of Asian jelly desserts but hadn't had one like this before! It was really pleasant and perfect to offset all the savory dishes I'd just eaten. I'd get it again. I was Snapchatting my friends and bf videos of the food and they all agreed it looked bomb too. I told my bf that I'll save him him some leftovers when he gets back tomorrow night but not sure it'll last by then. Do yourself a favor and try this place! Next time I'll probably try the dry chili chicken :) read more

Been here a couple times in the last few months but sorry to say the latest visit will be the last. The food underwhelming overall. Egg roll appetizer, crispy and warm on the outside but cold on the inside. The dumplings were tasty, not too salty, and good portion size. Would not recommend the orange chicken, all breading, hard to detect the chicken, seemed more like ground chicken that was breaded. The Mongolian beef was the star of the show, a well executed dish with tender beef. The atmosphere was lacking. The bar that is no longer in use since it is BYO is used to proudly display boxes of lightbulbs, hardware, a box of Froot Loops, a large "Bistro" sign and some instant Lipton instant lemon iced tea (does not seem very Chinese). It is mid April and there is still Christmas decorations in the dining room. The condiment caddy that was brought to the table was gross. Dried mustard sauce and sweet-and-sour sauce on the lid, spoon, inside and outside of the serving container as if it has not been cleaned or changed in at least a month. I was hoping for a better dine-in Chinese experience in Edgewater. read more

The chicken and vegetables were just ok very little flavor. The service was awful. We had 5 people and each dish came out 15 minutes after each person received their food. I was the last one served I think they forgot about me and everyone was already finished. Very expensive for small portion we got and stale cookies at the end. Will not return. read more

First time I ordered from this place, the food was great. The Dan Dan noodles were perfect, the fried rice was well made and not oily. We had the egg roll that was good and the small pork dumplings. I will return soon. read more

Quick service and delicious food, my kids loved it and the staff were quick to respond to our requests. I was very pleased with our impulsive decision to come in to celebrate a family birthday!!! The only thing missing was fish tanks lol read more

Really love the vibe and decor. Very nice and clean. Friendly sevice too. Everything we had was delicious, especially the pork fried rice. The pieces of pork were juicy and so tasty. Beware, spicy means spicy They also have a cool private room for a larger group. read more

I ordered delivery for the first time to try out this restaurant and I loved the food so much I had to leave a review asap! I ordered the dry chili chicken, zhong's dumplings, and the Yibin flaming noodle all three dishes were outstanding. The dry chili chicken was my favorite. It was so flavorful and just the right level of spicy. Even the fortune cookies they included were delicious. I'm looking forward to trying out more dishes in the future read more

Tried this place 3 times. Very average the first 2 times. Egg rolls were burnt and tasteless. Orange beef was mushy. I threw away half of it. read more

We had such a mixed experience here! First off the interior is very nice and spacious. It's a welcome location to the Edgewater neighborhood and we would come back again with some substitutions! For us this restaurant shines in the appetizer department, and in hindsight we would've just shared a bunch of those. The crab Rangoon was one of the best I've ever had! Do not skip it. Others in my party said they'd come back for the BBQ spare ribs alone and get multiple orders of them. The pork dumplings were also delicious and they provided us with a bunch of dipping sauces for all of it! We also shared jasmine tea which was a huge teapot portion for the group! Unfortunately our entrees were all not very good. The orange chicken was mushy and nothing special. The cashew chicken was lacking any flavor and some of us thought that some of the chicken could've been tofu because of the consistency. In addition some pieces were inedible because they were so fatty. The braised pork belly chunks were 90% bones and the meat itself was not good. Again, this was such a 50/50 experience! read more

It seriously took over 2 hours to get all our food served for 2 people Aka one plate at a time came out but this is a soft opening and all is forgiven because everything was absolutely delicious...I won't be so forgiving say 5 months from now and this is how the service is still going. With a sign on window saying now hiring for basically every single position in a restaurant Combined with first week soft opening I knew exactly what was going to happen and it did. Each plate of food from appetizers to main dish was 30 to 40 minutes in between and we had four dishes. This turned into a 3 hour meal...lol Did I mention how tasty all the food was....From the spare ribs to the spicy chili chicken and those pork dumplings...Wow. The staff was nice and friendly what little there was and they put a 20 percent discount on my bill for waiting 25 minutes for a dish they forgot to make. If this food was bad this would have been a bust but the food is so good I'm giving this spot 5 stars no problem...Just remember going right now you might have some service issues due to understaffing but the cook in the kitchen is absolutely killing it so it's worth the wait. read more

We were so excited to see this location open! They have such a large menu, with fish, meat, veggy options for everyone. I really enjoy the mala spice that has a aromatic and tingling effect unlike hot peppers you may be used to. We really like the mala fish, the green beans, eggplant, twice cooked pork with scallion pancake, and the cumin lamb. Their service is quick and friendly. Make sure to check their socials for deals. The space is very large and comfortable, with booths and large tables for big groups. If you are a fan of spicy szechuan or want to try it down the first time, this is a great spot! Easily accessible from Broad busses and red line Thorndale stop. read more

Extremely, deeply, exaggeratedly high sodium content. Burnt tofu, greasy sauce. Had high hopes. I ate 10 percent of my dishes, told the server,no response, got fully charged. Please don't support these types of businesses... Let the better places receive our money. Really. Worst Asian food I've ever had. read more

Ordered delivery, food was delivered fast and hot. Loved the dumplings and the crispy shrimp. Will definitely try them again.

Food- oh my word! We're still on the starters and it's all fresh and amazing!! The soup bao- oh gosh yummy! Service has been spot on and the ambiance is nothing overwhelming and I love it. What counts is what you order and you love it. read more

I ordered the Dan Dan Noodles which came not as pictured. They used spaghetti noodles and the sauce was not very appetizing. It just seemed very cheaply made and not as advertised. The sautéed Napa cabbage was okay but didn't taste like much. read more

The food was EXCELLENT! Had Zhong's Dumplings, Xiao Long Bao, Dan Dan Noodles, Garlic Pork, green beans, and everything was stellar. Super flavorful, and we didn't have to wait terribly long. The server paced our meal well, and the staff were very polite. We did hope to try dessert, but it was fairly late and they gave us our check before asking if we wanted to order dessert. Maybe we were meant to order everything at once, maybe they wanted us to get going since they needed to close, I'm not sure, but it didn't damper my experience and gives me something to look forward to the next time I'm in Chicago. read more

When I first got there, there wasn't many people we were politely greeted and quickly sat down. The menu was kind of hard to understand, unless you're familiar with those dishes in that area of China. So if you're used to these Americanize Chinese restaurants then this might be a little different. We ordered some special fries they had on their menu as an appetizer, which was pretty good, but in reality, it was just french fries toast in chili oil. My partner ordered Chengdu chili chicken and I ordered Ramen noodles with seafood. Everything was pretty good. The chicken had a lot of peppercorn which I guess gives you a numb feeling I like that my partner not so much overall I thought it was a good place to eat with friendly service read more

For a new restaurant there's going to be kinks. However, there's a lot that Chengdu Impressions does well: 1. Food, been here twice now. Ordered an array of things in my past 2 visits. Some stand outs include the pork feet, dry chile chicken, and their crab Rangoon. Full of flavor, well cooked, presentation is lovely, and reminds me of cooking that my grandmother would make. 2. The ambiance is just fine. I can actually see in here so that's a plus. Lately I've been in Chinese restrooms and it's dark as heck. 3. Service is okay, but this is where the kink needs to be worked out. Food is brought out in different order than when ordered. I suppose that means there's a line issue but that only gets better with time. Overall, I'd eat here again and I'd bring a friend. read more

Fantastic Szechuan food. Big selection of dishes large and small. Very good service. My favorite Chinese in Chicago for Sichuan food. Highly recommend. read more

I ordered from here for New Years Eve and it was amazing. I was a little nervous, because while I like spice, I know that this kind of spice can be a whole different ballgame. Thankfully the menu was clear and helpful about spice level and able to direct me to make good choices. The crispy eggplant was the only dish I got that might have been a little spicier than anticipated, but the flavor was so good I just added more rice and it was perfect. They are a welcome addition to the neighborhood and I look forward to ordering again. read more

Second time dining here, wasn't crazy about it the first time, but figured since they had just opened, they were finding their groove and I refrained from posting a review. I really wanted to leave a glowing review this time around, but that's not really fair to other restaurants who regularly nail it. First, the wonton soup was really disappointing; two small wontons in a clear, tasteless broth. Had better just about anywhere else. Then, I saw on the menu a very appetizing looking duck dish that looked like delicious cubes of succulent, boneless duck. What came to the table were very dry, tasteless and exceedingly boney pieces of duck, which caused me to spit out pieces of jagged bone with each bite. Honestly guys, if your meal doesn't look anything like it does on your menu, you're knowingly being deceptive. The night was saved by the cashew beef that was actually quite tasty. I probably won't visit again, but seriously, you've got to up your game. You've got too much great competition not to!! read more

The take out always hits from here, i usually order from edgewater location. Would highly recommend!

Terrific menu selection , swift service and delicious food both times I visited while in Chicago.

Tried this new restaurant and not what we expected. Everything seemed to be out of a bag and fried. Way too much saucing. We have much better restaurants to choose from - won't be back. Oh and they charge each of use an extra$5 for brown rice after offering it so we thought oh ok that would be healthier. read more

The food at this location is awful. I've had better Chinese food at a food court in a mall. I usually don't judge Chinese food to hard because of the nature of the quality you get here in the US, but this place was the worst Chinese food I've ever had. Dishes were missing ingredients. Flavor was non existent. The quality was so bad I had to say something so people don't end up as disappointed as my family and I were. read more

This location is NEW and the service is slow right now but that's expected with any new restaurant location. New employees learning to work together and meld will take some time. Had the opportunity to visit tonight with some friends and so glad we did. While they are in soft-open mode and it's clear they're still doing cleaning and organizing their operations; the entire staff were positively buzzing with excitement to welcome guests and tend to everyone. The food was absolutely delicious and we had a variety of dishes which were large without being wasteful. Three of us shared three mains, two sides of rice, and an appetizer. We were fully satisfied with about 2 small servings of leftovers. One or two minor kinks in the orders didn't phase us, although the staff profusely apologized and swiftly rectified what was needed. I would estimate they reached about half capacity while we were there and seemed to be able to keep attending all tables frequently. It was very clear they are a team. ...and at the end of the day, we three agreed we are eager to revisit, to try out more dishes and get to know the staff better. Definitely a welcome addition to the neighborhood! read more

They charged me more than the amount they supposed to charge. Two dishes got charged 1 dollar more each. Not a lot of money. I just want to know why. I ask the reason. The female waiter said: You can check the online menu. They have not updated the new price on the paper menu yet. I told her that they should inform the customer if there is a new price. Then she pointed her finger on the paper menu with very small words : Menu prices are subject to change . She talked to me with an ATTITUDE and said: you should be able to see that. Basically she was telling me two things: 1 they did not update the paper menu but they still can charge me the new price. 2 because on the menu indicated that the menu price subject to change so they can charge whatever price they want without noticing the customer. Plus it is your fault if you did not notice the very small word about it. I told her first of all. I am not ordering online. You should charge me the price on the paper menu you handed to me. Second of all. You shouldn't talk to me with an attitude and humiliate me not noticing the little words on the menu. You should always inform the customer if there is a price change. For short : That particular female waiter was rude. Pay attention on how much you really get charged. read more

Good food, could use be more spicy, clean environment, efficient staff. Drinks are made well. My guests also enjoyed it all.

This is some of the best Chinese food I've had! Expect spicy. The staff is friendly and attentive.

I was excited to try a new Chinese restaurant in my neighborhood, and since I love Sichuan, I was even more stoked. Then I was they have RABBIT on the menu. Um, when did it become acceptable to serve rabbit at a restaurant? I walked out without even ordering. The idea of dead RABBIT was too much for me. read more
