Came for the drinks and stayed for the food. I'm not a huge fan of Asian food, but I've walked by this place a million of times and saw a table with a scorpion bowl. The promise of some yummy drinks got me and in the Mai Tai delivered. I could have ordered a few but I stuck with one. I was pleasantly surprised with the veggie lo mein, it was a decent portion. I enjoyed sitting at the bar, there were plenty of tv's and a decent crowd for a weeknight. The restaurant is well maintained and staffed. This place has the BEST Chinese food hands down!!! I wish we lived closer because if it weren't over an hour away I would order from here all the time. They have a ton of gluten free options. Nearly every menu item can be made gluten free! The beef and broccoli is delicious as well as the beef fried rice and chicken pad Thai. Although we didn't dine inside the cozy restaurant, the place was clean, and the staff were welcoming when my husband picked up the order. We walked in to a small chaotic entrance. Definitely a place full of locals. Ok we got sat but no menus. Then I asked the waitress after 5x passing us if we could have menus. She then yelled at the host to bring menus. The menus were the same as the take out menus- interesting choice considering the price points of this restaurant. This definitely needs to improve. The waitress was absolutely aggressive and not paying attention to what we said. Absolutely not friendly to the point that I told her to be friendly. She was good to her regulars and I think I heard them call her May. Anyhow we will get past the awful service and onto the food. I finally got to order a hot and sour soup and it was ok. A bit salty but edible. Thw chicken were - ok nothing special. And the phoenix and Dragon was like a sesame chicken dish - no shrimp. One of the things that I am most appreciative of is that Cheng-Du is open on Mondays. So many Chinese restaurants are closed on Mondays. That is what typically brings me here, as I have more options on other days. Having said that, we just ordered dinner from Cheng-Du last Monday, and the food was fabulous! If you care about how people treat their employees, please read this. I used to LOVE this place. Every date night, every holiday and anniversary, we went here. I brought so many friends here over the years. My husband and I went there for our 6th year wedding anniversary tonight and earlier in the day we called for reservations, and they said none were needed for tonight. We get there at 7:30 (they normally close at 9:30 on sundays) and they said they closed early tonight for the Chinese new year. When we said hold on, we called and planned ahead for when to arrive, the front desk girl turned around, asked the owner lady behind the bar if we could sit and eat for our anniversary, and she snapped at her "WERE CLOSED!" .. so we asked can we at least order out and get a drink while we wait? I told her, I'm gluten free and it's our anniversary and nobody said anything to us when we called earlier tonight. The poor lady at the front turned and asked the owner again... the owner lady was the most rude human I have ever experienced. She said fine we can order takeout, but then continued to berate the front desk girl about how bad of a job she was doing - screaming at her saying "this is all your fault!" Our normal waitress, May, was in the back sitting at a booth visibly covering her face from us, I'm assuming because she was so embarrassed and appalled. We sat at the bar and asked for a drink because we were waiting for our food and the front desk girl said we could, and the owner then snapped at us and said NO! WERE CLOSED!!! The most "how dare you ask for something nicely at my restaurant" type of attitude and then publicly screaming at her employees in front of 15 or so guests. We ended up eating our anniversary dinner in the car - they knew this and the owner aggressively handed over our bag but didn't include utensils or fortune cookies or anything we needed. I love May. I love the staff there. We will never be back. We're heartbroken and pissed off because nobody should profit off of berating their employees. You should've seen the girl's face at the front desk - I wanted to give her a hug. I refuse to support a business that treats their employees that way. Such a shame. read more

I thought the food and atmosphere were pleasant, however the service wasn't the best. We have a medical alert service dog. When we walked in the person who greeted us tried pushing for us to order to go instead of dining in. Then they looked over us and seated the guest behind us at a set table and put us in an unprepared table when we were there first. Then the service was slow to get to us. After my husband was recently diagnosed with Celiac, finding decent gluten free Chinese food near us was practically impossible. At least 80% of their menu if not more could be made gluten free. We were thrilled to find this place only 45 mins away. The restaurant is small, clean and modern. Our waitress was extremely friendly and had an amazing memory. She remembered my husband's gluten allergy and seperated our dishes. We both ordered sesame chicken so it was neat to compare the gluten free dish to mine. I preferred mine and found it crisper, but if that is what was served to me I would enjoy it as well. My food was delicious too and we had plenty of leftovers!! A party came in and our waitress was happy to see her old regulars after more than a year and still remembered their drink orders. Amazing. We ordered a PuPu Platter, Wings, Beef Chow Foon, Egg Foo Young, and Crab Rangoon. We enjoyed everything except the Crab Rangoon, which was too sweet for my preference. Additionally, the gravy on the Egg Foo Young was translucent and dark, whereas we prefer the lighter, starch-based version. Overall, it was very good, but it just came down to our preferences. I did not get sick this time at all! The food was amazing and I am so happy to have a gluten free chinese food place to go to. New Year's Eve is a challenging day to get any take out, especially Chinese, however, it's our tradition, so I persevered after many many phone calls. They did a good job of managing expectation for pick up. We ordered three items: pork lo mein, sesame beef and the favorite General Gau's chicken. Positives: General Gau's sauce and spiciness was excellent! Pork lo mein was flavorful. All servings were generous portions. Negatives: All meat was overcooked and very dry. Almost no pork in the lo mein. I didn't know white rice was not included so had to cook some at home. Everyone raves about Cheng Du - overrated imo. I observed a full bar of non masked people - wth? I had to go pick up the food because the delivery driver was off the clock and when I went in, I felt slightly uncomfortable because the restaurant goers were staring at me as I was getting my food so that was a little weird.
