Near perfect cuisine. Total authentic Asian, always fresh & flavorful. There are a few reviews here who I'm fully confident are disingenuous, perhaps unlawfully slanderous. I would suspect they are content on trying to persuade the public away from a fantastic establishment which prides itself on providing true asian dishes. Captain C or whatever his name is likely more accustomed to pairing an egg roll on a chicken farm than appreciating what authentic food from Asia actually taste like. It should sound an alarm whenever someone repeatedly creates reviews either praising or tarnishing an establishment. It should tell you it's highly personal. Fact is from my personal experience having first dined at Mai Pearl at least 4 years ago and having the pleasure to repeat a genuine excellent dining experience at least once every 6 months when I'm in the area I have yet to experience anything other than great sushi, great entrees, good cocktails & decent enough service in that it's attentive without unnecessarily being interrupted while enjoying the good food & drinks and company I'm with. Please beware there are people on Yelp who's job it is literally to shake down or destroy an establishment. There's plenty of businesses who shouldn't be even opened their so poorly managed while often being unsanitary. This group of owners, managers, whoever they are care far more than most on what it means to be hard working responsible and fair as well as clean. You are assured from the moment you arrive that this is the best Asian establishment in the area and from my personal experience the best tasting Asian food of Chinese heritage that I have personally come across in North America. Decided to give Mai Pearl a try. Was a bit worried when I didn't say anyone else in the restaurant other than two diners. Not a great sign, but figured I'd still give it a try. The sever was very friendly and attentive. He quickly grabbed my drink order and provided a menu. The menu is huge and ranges from sushi to classic Chinese dishes. I went with the house Lo-Mein. I was excited when it came out because it looked really good. Unfortunately, it was the total opposite. The noodles were undercooked, it had no flavor, and the noodles weren't the lomein noodles I'm used to (not a deal breaker). It was really the undercook on the noodles that made this dish unpleasant for me. It did seem like they had a good to-go business based on the multiple pick ups I saw. The food taste good. The second day was even better reheated. The value for your dollar is good. The reason I'm giving it two stars is due to the way we felt after. The first night me and my partner ate it and about 30 minutes later, felt like we took a sleeping pill. We were wiped out. We both thought oh maybe it's coincidence. It's one of our weekly lunch spots, either for take-out or eat-in. I've tried many of the items on the luncheon menu... All have been very good. I understand that they needed to shut down the on line ordering on New Years Eve, but I ended up walking out of the restaurant that night becaue the line to pick up orders or place an order was very long and not moving at all. It appeared they had an issue with their payment system but also they were just out of it and very slow helping guests. There were several orders ready by the register but nothing was happening. Several workers came up to the register, but the line was still not moving after 15 minutes the same people were at the register. Once the on line ordering was back up I placed an order and it gave me a one hour ready time. Problem was when I picked up the order and got it home, it was stone cold. So the order was sitting there for probably 45 minutes. Can't say I will go there again since I ordered house rice and got pork rice and charged for house rice. A long time since we have visited this venue. We have missed the convenience and proximity of a quality Asian restaurant. Well, I am pleased to report that we thoroughly enjoyed our meal, in 2 visits, and we will be returning to our weekly patronage. The food is fresh and of high quality. I've been wanting to go for a while. A friend recently told me that on Friday nights they have musical bingo. So I said wow two of my favorites in one night. I went the last two Fridays and it's now going to be a regular occurrence. Not only is the food delicious but I've been very lucky winning bingo each week. Their combo plates are a generous portion, and they come with soup. Also for me when I see that lomein is included as well as the option of rice I get very excited. Most places charge extra for lomein which I hate. Lomein does not disappoint. One of the best. It is loaded with pork, onions and carrots, all in a dark sauce. The general Gau's is tasty and has the crispness that most places don't achieve. Also had the beef and broccoli. Beef was tender and not chewy. Broccoli had the perfect crisp. My mom got egg foo young which included two thick pieces and a darker gravy than the traditional brown one. She enjoyed very much and had another meal the next day. She also got the spicy string beans with lomein. Even though it is referred to as spicy, it was not overly spiced. We asked what they were marinated in and were told red pepper flakes and black bean sauce. Chicken wings are super crispy and not small. You get five in an order. Very clean and comfortable inside. This is my new favorite Chinese place. We walked in on a Friday night and we found the atmosphere clean, cool, and pleasant. The staff was very alert and went above and beyond. We have a child and they were super understanding. They had excellent communication and were aware of what foods had gluten (flour vs cornstarch). This is a big, fancy restaurant to be in a shopping center. They have a big menu, nicely dressed staff... I opened the menu and was surprised to see how expensive it was. I almost walked out. I saw the lunch specials and got two of them for less than an entree. The tuna and salmon rolls for ten bucks. Not bad. Miso soup and a salad. The rolls were small and had half the fish in them that they should have had. The chicken and egg noodle soup had a bunch of vegetables and a little chicken on top of a bowl of noodles and a little stock. I would not have guessed chicken. It had a little sesame oil. That's all I tasted. The food aside, the restaurant is run by an all Chinese staff. The three people I interacted with barely understood me. There were people coughing. My waitress was coughing and no one covered their mouths. She wiped her sniffly nose with her hand right in front of me. Gross. The restaurant was showy. The food was not a good value, and I sat and listened to the staff speaking in Chinese except for one time I heard "Oh my God" and coughing. It was straight out of a movie. Snowy day and my husband and I needed to get out. We had been big fans of Mai Pearl when it opened years ago and a few years back it went way down hill. My husband's Pad Thai had tiny shrimp, my sushi was equally small. On a whim, we went there tonight. Everything was DELICIOUS! Huge shrimp in his Pad Thai and my sushi was a good size and yummy. Mai Pearl has decent food but horrendous service which was was indifferent, inattentive, glacially slow, and management did nothing to make good on their mistakes. I had 3 friends with me and I left our table 3 times to go to the front "desk" to address "issues". It started with 20 minutes to get our drinks with no returns to our table to check on us, mistakes were made in our food order that were never corrected and one member of our party never received her meal! In the end we paid our bill and left out of frustration and we did complain to the front desk. Was our go to place for Chinese food in the area, but that has changed. Placed a very large order for Christmas Eve night. Placed the order 3 days in advance, in store, written down, signed the order form. Called that day to confirm the order and time. Show up at the promised time, line out the door for pickup. Bartender told us the order wasn't ready, somehow they ran out of chicken fingers, phone ringing and ringing with no one picking it up. Finally, after an hour and 15 minutes, the order is ready. I mentioned that they forgot about half of my order, and was told I could wait for them to make it, or take what was ready. People waiting in line told me they placed their orders an hour before via phone and had already picked up their food. Understand Christmas Eve is crazy, thought I was good by planning ahead, but clearly they couldn't handle the amount of orders and were not well prepared for the night. Gave them another try a few nights later, ordered two things of rice and a small appetizer. Woman who answered the phone couldnt have been ruder, was told 20 minutes, and ended up being about 50 minutes wait. I've been goi g to Mai pearl for 5 yrs. At first it seemed great food. As time has gone by I realizing the arrogance of the female staff that sit customers and deal with takeout. Dont call in an order the lady that takes pick up orders cant speak or understand english. (Amands, and the bar staff is not included in this review, quite frankly there probably the reasons people go back there). I've had a few occasions where the food was just terrible not eatable. My mother and I ate dinner here between 8 - 9:15 last night and my poor mother has been up sick all night. I haven't felt well either. It's 4:08 am and we are both up can't stay out of the bathroom. Which lead me to come to Yelp and write this review. She had 5 pieces of Philadelphia roll sushi and I had 1 piece. I am giving Mai Pearl an RBI double for their take out. Every year my wife and I carry on the tradition of eating chinese take out, drinking prosecco or barefoot bubbly, and watching as many episodes of the Twilight Zone marathon on Syfy until we cant watch anymore! Well this new years fell on a Sunday, and there was a Pats game at home, so I had to time it right and leave for Mai Pearl after the game had started to avoid a traffic mess. This was my 2nd time getting take out from Mai Pearl after being tired of getting poor quality chinese food at Peking Garden on Route 1 in Walpole. We went with the Pu Pu for 2 and it did not dissapoint. The rangoons were crispy and fresh, the chicken fingers the same, and boneless ribs were tender and flavorful with no fat on them. I wasnt a huge fan of the chicken wings as they were not as crispy as I like them to be, but it was still superior to any of the chinese in the Walpole/Foxboro area that we have tried thus far. The appeal of the Restaurant is neat and clean with a tiny bar as you walk in to the right. The service for me thus far has been attentive and courteous.
