This place is so good. I've never had any issues. I get takeout from here all the time and it's always hot, fresh, and generous portions. I brought my family of 8 here for Mother's Day and not only did they seat us right away, but the service was fast and friendly. Such a nice family that works here! Always thoughtful and helpful when determining what to get. Their lunch combos are such a great value - comes with a soup, app, main, and rice. The food is the worse I've ever eaten. Fried shrimp were overcooked, the fried rice was moist enough, but there were strips of what looked like beef, but was pork (I think), the boneless pork strips were overcooked or leftover and reheated, and the chicken chow mein was nothing like I've ever eaten before ... wilted lettuce mixed in, it was gross. My wife and I had been long-standing customers of The Lilac house for many years (16 years!) and we loved the place for fresh food. There might of been an ownership change a couple years ago, and it seems things changed with quality control. At first I picked up a piece of glass in my food, then over time another meal a month or so later I found a piece of plastic in another meal, but over the winter last year was the final straw. My wife and I BOTH picked up the worst case of food poisoning in our entire lives, and we reported it as it was so serious we didn't want anyone else to get that sick this was that bad. If your elder parent (like ours) who loves Chinese food had eaten there and gotten sick, we are unsure if she could survive such a horrible 18 hour incident and say no more. This was our only shared meal in 3 days so the origin was clear so we spoke with the manager and her response was disappointing at best. We will never go there again and we don't wish to trash them, but we really hope this doesn't happen to you. read more

I love Chinese food and this was the worst Chinese food I have ever had. We ordered crab Rangoons, a PuPu Platter, the House Special fried rice and General Gau's Chicken. The Rangoons were fine (but $6 for 6 of them!). The PuPu platter was very small and gross- the spare ribs were rock hard and tasted like old frying oil. The General Gau's Chicken was ok but again, a small portion. The fried rice was basically white rice with (literally) 8 peas in it, a few small pieces of gross processed looking chicken and about 3 baby shrimp. We also found a long black hair in the food (my hair is blonde). I had belly issues the next morning after eating it and ended up throwing the left overs away. Compete waste of $45. Wish I could give zero stars! My husband and I met 2 other couples here on July 4th. Not a single customer in the restaurant. We were a little skeptical, but went inside and sat down. Several minutes past and a woman comes out and says "I'm all alone, don't rush me" wow.....what a greeting for 6 new customers. We got up and left and will never be back. This is a good local spot with quick friendly service. We always get take out- the lemon chicken is good. So is the chicken fried rice, but it's a LOT of rice and chicken, and not enough veggies. LoMein could've used a bit more flavor, but it was a large portion. Enough to split between two people and then have some for leftovers. For your hole in the wall Chinese food this place is better than most, especially being in the middle of nowhere in Millis, MA. My buddy owns a condo in Medfield and there is not much around so we found this place locally. .. The prices are very reasonable and the food is pretty good, but nothing to write home about. One major complaint is that they literally never give you napkins/utinsels in takeout orders... and this is a place that does 90% business in takeout. You actually have to ask to get that stuff.... pretty stupid. But overall if you are in the area it is worth going to.... 6/10 rating. read more

I don't know why people keep mentioning this is expensive. Last time I checked $7.50 for super-fresh tasting entree with choice of rice, spring or egg roll, and a bowl of soup is a deal to me! This isn't your normal "greasy" Chinese food place. Everything tastes fresh and doesn't seem to be glopped with sauces. I appreciate food like that. The service is always spot-on. I never have to ask to get my water glass filled, they're always right there watching it. Even at high-end establishments you don't get that kind of service. read more

I grew up in Millis and have been eating here for years. Don't let appearances deceive you; the place looks a little outdated but you'll stop noticing the cheesy music and decorations dating back o the early 90's once you take your first. I've never found a place that makes their lo mein quite like they do here. It is not saturated in oily sauce, or filled with cheap fillers. Simply delicious. Their chicken fingers are the perfect cross between soft, but still slightly tender, juicy, white chicken on the inside and a perfectly thin layer of crunchy breading on the outside. Even their beef teriyaki sticks are never too rough and tough that you have to bring out your inner caveman to tear at the meat with all force to get a bite. No, the beef teriyaki sticks are light and tender with the perfect amount of seasoning glazing the exterior. The sticks even come with a little piece of pineapple and a mercino cherry at the tips of every stick. It almost acts as a little dessert at the end of every serving. If you have not tried the Lilac House I highly recommend this little gem in the heart of Millis. read more

Ugh, the décor is just horrible. Not a bit of Chinese kitch. It reminds me of a cafeteria at a church or something. Really sterile. It looks like they bought their fixtures in 1973. The day I went there was no one there... just one of the kitchen workers eating at a table. The food itself is pretty good. In fact it was massive portions. But I was disappointed they put the portions in regular like Tupperware containers. I mean... you go to a Chinese place to get those cute boxes. Now for the super annoying part. No delivery? That is crazy. This is the biggest if not the only Chinese place in Millis and they don't deliver? Unfortunately I had high expectations for this place by the reviews. Ordered a pu pu platter for 2- house fried rice and Kung pao chicken and was disappointed with all three. The pu pu platter was sad to say the least. There were no chicken fingers- the crab Rangoon was soggy- the house fried rice was lame white rice with small pieces of chicken- but mostly white rice. The Kung pao chicken had no spice at all- very tiny pieces of chicken- like abnormally small- with peanuts cellary? Red pepper? Green pepper? Very odd combo. I think it's what was chopped up in the kitchen at the moment. We have not found a good Chinese restaurant in our area- guess we have to make the trip to Natick for Asia bistro where we are never disappointed. read more

I went to the Lilac House for the first time yesterday. I live in Norfolk and there really isn't anything around there so I searched on Yelp and found the Lilac House. I ordered crab rangoon, fried shrimp, egg rolls and Pork Lo Mein. Everything was excellent. They gave me enough lo mein to feed about six people. Everything tasted fresh and was not greasy at all. Pathetic excuse for Chinese food. I've tried several menu items on three different occasions and it's all high priced crap. This is the worst waste of money in a 30 mile radius. Never again! The lobster sauce is a bad version of NY style, not the Boston style everyone loves. The spare ribs are very greasy and fatty, The chicken fingers are coated in pancake batter and soft, not crispy. The rice is sticky and starchy. The main dishes are 30% sauce and vegetables are over-cooked. Do yourself a favor and drive 3 miles to Jing's Garden in Medfield. read more
