This was a pleasant surprise. I had expected the usual - not very good - suburban American Chinese fare, but this place way exceeded expectations. Prices were quite reasonable, portions were generous, and the dishes were, for the most part, not swimming in sauce. I felt they were generous with the veggies and chicken (which could have been a little more tender) and the sauces were not bland, but not too spicy. Overall I thought this was a very good value and a lot better than most American-Chinese restaurants. And yes, you get the usual fortune cookies with your order.

They are located in a Strip Mall that is still under construction so they are kind of easy to miss. I had thought they were closed when I first came up for lunch, but luckily they were open. Decent sized seating area with a bar right by the entrance. I decided to eat right at the bar which you can order from the same menu as if you were seated. The food was good and it came out quickly. Decent sized portions and cheap price. Good place for a quick and cheap lunch.

Good suburban Chinese food. The restaurant is always busy and quick for takeout. The hot and sour soup and moo shoo pork are my go to.

This was the worst Chinese food I have ever had. Crab Rangoons tasted weird. Rice was garbage. Egg roll was ok.

Egg rolls were cold and might have been good if fried fresh. Beef and mushrooms was ok, but cold and no flavors to sauce. The duck sauce in bottle was watered down to water ? Beef teriyaki no teriyaki flavor but was tender . It was ok for lunch special and I guess if driving by and need a lunch ? Near perfect cuisine. Total authentic Asian, always fresh & flavorful. There are a few reviews here…read morewho I'm fully confident are disingenuous, perhaps unlawfully slanderous. I would suspect they are content on trying to persuade the public away from a fantastic establishment which prides itself on providing true asian dishes. Captain C or whatever his name is likely more accustomed to pairing an egg roll on a chicken farm than appreciating what authentic food from Asia actually taste like. It should sound an alarm whenever someone repeatedly creates reviews either praising or tarnishing an establishment. It should tell you it's highly personal. Fact is from my personal experience having first dined at Mai Pearl at least 4 years ago and having the pleasure to repeat a genuine excellent dining experience at least once every 6 months when I'm in the area I have yet to experience anything other than great sushi, great entrees, good cocktails & decent enough service in that it's attentive without unnecessarily being interrupted while enjoying the good food & drinks and company I'm with. Please beware there are people on Yelp who's job it is literally to shake down or destroy an establishment. There's plenty of businesses who shouldn't be even opened their so poorly managed while often being unsanitary. This group of owners, managers, whoever they are care far more than most on what it means to be hard working responsible and fair as well as clean. You are assured from the moment you arrive that this is the best Asian establishment in the area and from my personal experience the best tasting Asian food of Chinese heritage that I have personally come across in North America. Bon Appetite

It is certainly not the best Chinese food around, but it is not the worst either. I do like that they offer combination plates, which is becoming harder to find at some restaurants, and there are still a few decent options on the menu. The biggest issue for me is the overall condition and atmosphere of the restaurant. During my visit there were tiny fruit flies, gnats, or similar small insects flying around the dining room and even in the men's bathroom. That is definitely not something you want to deal with while trying to eat and it really takes away from the experience. Another thing I have noticed is how empty the restaurant has been. The last few times I have been here there have been very few, if any, other customers in the dining room. Obviously I cannot speak to their overall business, but seeing the place consistently that quiet does not exactly inspire confidence. Overall, Mai Pearl is just okay at this point. The food is passable and I appreciate the combination plates, but between the cleanliness concerns, lack of atmosphere, and decline in food quality compared with years ago, it is difficult to recommend. I remember this being a much better place, and unfortunately it just does not seem to be what it used to be.

He offered to credit us the complete bill to our credit cards but we paid cash. I told him we will give it another shot sometime in the future and that we are reasonable people. He can maybe find another way to comp something but I don't feel the whole value is needed. -------------------------------- I never post and am usually able to take mixups at dinner with a grain of salt. I have to say my experience tonight at this place put me over the top. Went out for dinner with another couple and I will say the food was very good so no complaint there. When the bill came it seemed high to me so I looked it over. Good thing I did. They charged us for 3 rounds of drinks when we only had two. I showed it to our server and instead of saying I'm sorry, decided it best to argue with me that we had 3. Wrong move, I told her to fix it. After watching her argue with the bartender for 15 minutes she came back with an amended bill. The drinks came off and the bill was $11.00 higher. Looked again and she again charged me for one extra beer. Normally I would have let it go but now she had me pissed from our previous interaction. Again argues with me telling me I had 3. I told I would walk out right now if she didn't take it off. Came back a third time and this one put me over the edge. I see now my bill had two entrees on it that we never ordered. So after three times explaining to her that she F'd up told her she better make it right now or we are walking out on the whole bill. She finally came back with the correct one but an extra half hour spent just to pay for what we ordered. We paid the bill even left a tip, which after rethinking it wish I didn't. The other couples wife told the whole story to the hostess going out the door. Not even a " we are sorry, can we take something off the bill" nothing. Like I said I never post here but they really don't care about customer service.

The place has a few tables and there are no servers. Prices just like every where else are high now and if you get the choice of take out/delivery or dining there just make the call, don't waste your time at the counter and tip the delivery person well when he or she arrives at the door. This can minimize the additional frustration that you get when you pick up a high priced underwhelming order at the counter. Also the atmosphere at home doesn't smell like fryer grease. Needless to say it just doesn't compare to what it used to be and it saddens me. I remember when I would have given Quan's a five star review now I am giving them two.
