I've been to Chema's Real Taco countless times, and it never disappoints! This place is an absolute gem and conveniently close by, making it our go-to spot. We stopped by after a long day at work with our Home Health company, and it was exactly what we needed. The Chema's Chicken Crunch is simply amazing--so good I had to stop myself from ordering more! To go order - ordered veggie burrito mojado- it had way too much Guacamole in it, too much rice, and almost no beans, didn't taste good. also ordered burrito mojado of chile verde- the meat tasted weird and under seasoned and the chile verde didn't have much flavor other than being spicy without warning. First there are a ton of pigeons pooping all over the front. Beware you don't get pooped on when you walk in. We tested out some regular tacos first to see how it is and all I can say is dry and no flavor. I ordered food through a delivery service and all I can say is this food was basically top tier. I had never tried this restaurant before and I am very pleased. (Excuse the photos as we had to try everything before giving an honest review, honestly couldn't help ourselves considering how it looked) Food was outstanding. We ordered Chips and Salsa (not knowing if this place gave it complimentary, we just wanted an appetizer), an Asada Burrito, #2 shredded beef combo which includes an Enchilada and Hard Shell Taco w/ Rice and beans on the side, Chicken Strips and Fries, and a Torta. Chips and Salsa were 3/5, Chips were overcooked and stale but given the time of day we ordered I don't expect it to be very fresh. Salsa was awesome, it had spice and was flavorful and I could not complain. Asada Burrito was on the tier of a Mexican street truck vendor. I'm talking the meat, beans, rice, cilantro and onion with the dip of their salsa really hits the spot. This is now one of my favorite spots to go for an affordable and quality burrito. #2 Shredded Beef Enchilada and Taco was pretty damn good. The Taco was a hard shelled American style taco but was still phenomenal, this was the one thing this dish had that I loved besides the rice and beans which were also pretty good. The Enchilada was basic, I feel like I've tasted this sauce before and it almost resembles canned enchilada sauce. Can't complain much though as the shredded beef was amazing and sometimes that's hard to come across. (This is where the 4 stars come) Chicken Strips were for my son because unfortunately ordering just a bean and cheese burrito isn't a thing at this location, at least for delivery. The Chicken Strips were okay, I tried them and they were very dry. Cut from a chicken breast and not an actual chicken tender. My son didn't complain though and that's enough for me to be satisfied. *If the owners read this please make a bean and cheese burrito a thing on the delivery menu* The Torta was great, the only thing it was lacking was the avocado. Don't know if we just got skimped on our order but it was absolutely lacking that one condiment. Other then that it was great, but yet again their salsa is what will top this dish off. If I could give an honest review I would definitely top this at a 4.5 rather then a 4 star. Unfortunately I ordered through delivery and that does play a factor. I cannot give a review on the customer service and ambience of the business, but I will definitely be back to give a better review! Wanted to try something close to Revision for Taco Tuesday. Chema's hit the spot but did not blow us away. I had the special quesadilla with asada, kinda plain. Wife had the enchilada burrito with asada. Burrito itself was good, enchilada sauce a little plain. Provided us with a mix of salsas, all really good - they saved the day! I'm so mixed about Chema's and I wish I could give at least 4 stars but there's just not enough consistency overall. We walked in and were greeted and seated by a very nice woman. After reviewing the menu, I decided on the combination plate with a chicken enchilada and shredded beef taco, my husband got the chile relleno and cocktail de ceviche. Let me say I really hoped to like this place because I really felt comfortable in its ambiance. But then my food came out. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great. The taco was bland shredded beef, there was no sauce and no salsa. It was plated nice but the flavor just isn't there and even the rice is lacking flavor. No chips or salsas were even brought to the table. I had to ask for them when our food was brought out and then when she brought some they are store bought chips. Now on the other hand, my husband raved on his shrimp cocktail, says its one of the best he's ever had with lots of big shrimp and avocado however, his chile relleno was a miss and lacked salt and seasoning like my food. I will say that the horchata was very good and I'd come back for that. So, I'm gonna have to say at this point Chema's is hit or miss. I wouldn't rule it out altogether. I ordered ground beef nachos and these were the most bland and dry nachos I've ever bought. There was lots of ground beef, but it had NO flavor. I think it was just plain ground beef. There was a generous amount of dry chips. Then it had almost no cheese on the nachos. To round it out, there was a small scoop of guacamole. I had the sour cream held, but even that would not have saved these nachos. The salsa was good but I only had 3 tiny containers for these dry nachos. I was in search of yet another awesome Mexican joint about 9:30 on a Tuesday night and I remembered a recommendation a dear friend had passed my way a couple weeks prior and I jumped at the chance to finally check this place out. We pulled into the tiny little strip mall it's located in and sure enough the lights were still on! It was quiet inside as we were the only ones there but within the next five minutes or so we were joined by a couple more people looking for a late night taco fix. I really like the inside of this place but I imagine it gets a little crazy during peak hours. There are a handful of booths and tables and a little lunch counter that seats 5 or 6 people. Everything is nice and clean on the inside and they have some nifty decorations adorning the walls. My favorite was a cabinet containing various currencies from several foreign countries. The prices here are reasonable and the portions are pretty standard. The menu offerings are also mostly what you would expect but the quality of food here is pretty astounding. Definitely has that homemade quality to it. The rice was fluffy and flavorful. The beans had a perfect consistency (I don't want runny beans unless I order bean dip!). The salsas were definitely handmade. The chicken in the tacos was moist and flavorful and the steak was cooked and seasoned well. We tried some of my buddies carnitas and it was nice and spicy but also flavorful. My fiancé enjoyed it and she doesn't even like pork! The service here was great as well we were promptly seated, handed menus and offered drinks. They have a good selection of drinks too for being such a small little place. They have several American and Mexican beers, jarritos, Mexican colas(1 liter bottles), fountain sodas and of course margaritas! I watched them make a margarita and a michelada for the patrons who were there next to us and I have to say I can't wait to try them. They squeeze fresh fruits so no margarita mix here!!! All in all I think this place is my new favorite hands down. From service to quality and everything in between I'm definitely going to be back again and again and again! This is the 3rd time I've gone here, sadly we have never had a good experience. Tonight was the nail in the coffin. Got our food through uber, opened and it looked delicious. Took a bite of a salt lick, (chile relleno, beef taco, and taquitos) now I understand seasoning food, but this was wayyyy too much. I couldn't eat past the first bite and had to throw it away. Located in a pretty dinghy strip mall you'd never notice this place. No ambiance at all, very Spartan. The salsa wasn't great, just a red chili concoction, but it was pretty good. Chips were homemade but could have been fresher. We had taco's, carnitas,enchilada's and tamales. The pork taco was the best I have ever had! The tamale was amazing. Most tamales are like paste, these were almost flaky, I really can't describe them. They were just "fresh." I have never tasted any other tamale like them. The enchilada was OK, nothing to set it apart. The carnitas was very flavorful but it was fairly dry. The only real negative about the restaurant was the flies. Whenever I see flies in the eating area I wonder what the flies are doing in the kitchen? This may be a confusing review but bottom line, this place is good and well worth a try. Pronounced "Chima", this little mexican jem is tucked away in a strip mall off Prater Way. Chema Is a nickname for jose or maria. The owner Jose, has been in business for eight years. The origin of his recipes and cooking is Guadalajara. Every different region in mexico has a different twist on the same dish. For example tacos made in Tijuana are much different in taste,texture and ingredients. Deb and I both ordered the number 10 dish, two tacos,beans and rice. I ordered a chicken taco and steak taco. Both tacos were fantastic, the meat in both were full of flavor. The tacos are stuffed with the meat,cheese Tomatoes,onions,cilantro,and lettuce. We ordered the hard shell tacos, the shell was fried ,very light and thin and not greasy. The beans and rice are home made every day and are very tasty. The owners are always there either one or both of them,when dining in before the Coronas, they have always been fast fresh n friendly on drinks n chips n salsa. I haven't been here since my bday in February n since my medical office decided to fire me during Covid19 I needed a pick me up, n this was it. I absolutely adore the Chile Verde Wet Burrito there I also occasionally order the cabeza (beef head) burrito, n again, most spectacular!! Tonight's order from Uber eats didn't go well at first, as I never received it...I was super sad. My BF said go ahead n reorder with pick up from car n instructions to contact us...the second time was perfect everything was hot (actually made it to the correct address) n still hot. My driver was cool n witjrdceith me when he couldn't find my apartment (which I assume happened to the first driver,but he could've called instead of leaving it wherever or taking it). The tacos were slightly different, yet damn tasty. They get an extra star for having the first salsa with actual heat to it. Then again, one time I ingested a slice of real Ghost Pepper, so my idea of spicy might be a bit more,um, experienced. Maybe we came in on a bad day since it was Monday, Memorial Day. Our party consisted of 5 adults and 3 kids. There was only 1 server and she never once looked happy. We were not greeted when we arrived. We sat ourselves. There was 5 other people in the place. It took about 15 minutes for her to come to our table to ask if we wanted drinks. We ordered drinks and told her we were also ready to order. It took another 10 minutes to get water, a soda, a beer and a margarita. My margarita was very weak, with no flavor. Our food came out and 2 of the orders were wrong but as it took so long to get our food the kids just ate it. The burritos were dry even the wet burrito. The nachos were good, the fish tacos and the enchiladas but nothing to rave about. Based on the other reviews I came in with a high expectations but was embarrassed because we were treating family from out of town to lunch before they were to head back. On a note, just before we were leaving a sweet lady who just got there and obviously worked there, came in with a smile and greeted us, looked like it might have been the owner.
