Tasty food, good portions and friendly staff. They also have a salsa bar available and even provide ziplock bags for filling up for to go orders! We got carne asada fries, 2 gorditas and a side plate of plantains. All so yummy - the carne asada fries came with lots of meat and toppings as well as extra cheese sauce for pouring over or dipping! Plantains were perfectly sweet and delicious and served with beans and sour cream. Gorditas were messy, crispy and greasy in the best way. Next time we come we want to try the pupusas. We saw them being made on the grill and they looked incredibly fresh and delicious! Perfect location near Costco and the airport.
I love pupusas. I see this place has a habanero pupusa that I will be back to try soon! Today I had the cheese and the zucchini version and they were just perfect. I appreciate that my children (super picky) will eat a cheese pupuasa and rice. This place is authentic and well priced. Someday I will adventure out to try other menu items. I like their toppings bar which allows you to pile on ample of what you like. The cashier was friendly and helpful when I asked questions about what some of the words on the menu meant. My kids liked the rice, but I prefer mine a bit fluffier/moist. The nice people around me interpreted for me when my number was called in Spanish and I couldn't figure out #79 in Spanish. I love this location, by Costco and right off the freeway. We will consistently come back again and again.

Everything is made to order As fresh as it can come! Beautiful self.serve salsa and spice bar. now, if you're looking for someplace bougie that has tables side service or that is fancy for friends this is not that place! this is the place that you keep to yourself that you don't want your friends and family to find out about because then I'll know your secret when you pick up the to go food and bring it to their house lol! We will continue to come here again and again because the flavors are on points. The staff is extremely helpful and always willing to explain the ingredients and the details that come with each item. I do want to caution you... This is not Mexican food. This is Salvadoran so the flavors are going to be different. The spices in your red rice are going to be different and the refried beans are going to taste different. Believe me when I say it's definitely worth it! And do not forget to get the fish tacos!! you're gonna love them as much as I did!!!!
We got a flat tier and was getting the tires replaced at Costco. We had time to kill and needed some food, so we walked across the parking lot to this place. I am so glad we did. I got the bean and cheese pupusa and it was amazing. Great flavor, great texture, perfectly cooked. It is a quaint place in a strip mall. You head up to the counter, place your order, and they call your number. There is also a salsa bar. The service was fine because it only includes taking your order. My one complaint was that even though it was more than 90 minutes before closing time, they were already cleaning up, removing the salsa bar, and stacking chairs on the tables. The prep would have been fine, except for the bleach smell from the cleaning solution...it is hard to eat food, even delicious food, when everything smells like cleaning solution. Next time, I will go for lunch.
Their pupusas are the best in town. I come here often and am never disappointed. Also, did you know pupusas taste even better for breakfast? You're welcome.
I ordered food to go. Food was ready pretty quick. Overall, nothing fancy about this spot, very chill location. Customer Service was pretty basic, employees were friendly. I tried the Pupusas, all very good. Very authentic tasting. Served with their curtido and salsa roja, which were delicious too. I recommend the Chicken and Cheese, Pork and Cheese, Zucchini and Cheese. I ordered a side of rice which was just your basic Spanish rice, nothing special or extra added to the dish. It was okay, it fulfilled my taste for Spanish rice. I also ordered a side of french fries. They were pretty good and crispy. I was so surprised to see that they actually put a bunch of ketchup on my fries, which I thought was really odd. So if you don't want ketchup put on your fries, be sure to let them know when you order.
Hard to find good chicken fajitas in Reno. I loved El Paisano. The portions were big, the salsa bar was good. They had grilled jalapeños and onions. Prices went up and it was still ok for the food you got. Last few visits. No grilled jalapeños or onions and the last 2 visit. I am now getting literally half the food that I used to get. I will include photos. You will see what I used to get. Compared to what I've been given my last 2 visits. Sucks, because I can't find decent chicken fajitas in this town.

Delicious pupusas! Salsa bar was kept clean and they helped me order food that wasn't too spicy for my son and I. Pupusas were served warm and the cabbage slaw was available in the salsa bar so I went back for seconds. I'll definitely be back for more pupusas!!
My go to spot when I am craving a good Salvadoran dish. I usually order pupusas revueltas, made from pork, cheese and beans. This place is usually busy and their staff is great and friendly.

We were craving menudo and decided to give this restaurant a try. The menudo was delicious. The beef tripe and pork were all so soft, juicy, and yummy. I added cilantro, onions, and lime to my menudo and it was chef's kiss. I loved the broth - cooked to perfection. I just wish my soup came out more hot because I love it when my soups come out piping hot. The tortillas were also so soft and doughy. I liked how there was a separate cart where you can also grab as much toppings as you want to sprinkle onto the menudo. We also ordered Platanos Fritos to share and it was so good. It wasn't overly sweet and paired well with sour cream. The horchata was also really good - not overly sweet. Service was also very quick and efficient. The restaurant also had a lot of dining tables. Plenty of parking. read more
Been coming here for years. They offer Mexican and Salvadoran cuisine. I normally order pupusas. I believe their pupusas are pretty authentic. This time around I ordered pupusas and a Salvadoran tamale. The Salvadoran tamale is completely different than a Mexican one. I was really craving a Salvadoran tamale but was completely disappointed when I unwrapped the tamale. The filling was shredded pork however the preparation was done like the filling that they use for the Mexican tamales. It wasn't a recaudo it was just the chile sauce with the meat. The flavor was ok a little dry on the masa. The tamales were my favorite. I wish they offered different dishes so you can grab your salsa and curtido. The plates where they serve the food are not reliable enough for the salsa and curtido. Overall it's a good place for the pupusas just not the Salvadoran tamales. read more

I would like like to start this off by saying that El Paisano is ol' faithful. When I want a solid taco, I know that I can go to El Paisano for my taco fix. I have been going to El Paisano since they opened up this location. I went to their location off of Oddie before this one opened so I must've been coming here for at least 8 years! When you walk in, you will have to go up to the counter and order. I love that they have an extensive menu. You can get tacos, pupusas, tamales, the list goes on! They also have a good variety of meats for your choosing. My go to's are definitely Cabeza tacos, asada tacos, pork and cheese pupusas, and the Salvadorian tamal. My favorite tacos are Cabeza tacos and these are by far the best in town. I am usually let down by other places with their Cabeza so I have to come back here to get a proper taco fix. It is moist, tender, and flavorful. This can also be said about their asada. You can not go wrong with their asada. A cool thing about El Paisano is that they have Salvadorian dishes on their menu. Their pupusas are the best that I have had in Reno and Sparks. The pork and cheese pupusas are my favorite flavor combo but they also have beans, chicken, and zucchini. Another Salvadoran favorite of mine is the Salvadorian chicken tamal. Now be sure to not order the Mexican tamal because that is different. The Mexican tamal is wrapped in corn husk whereas the Salvadorian tamal is wrapped in banana leaves. I find that the Salvadoran tamal is more moist than Mexican tamales so I think that is my biggest draw to it. It is not spicy but there is still a lot of flavor with the pieces of chicken, potato, and cactus in it. If you have never tried a Salvadorian tamal, I highly suggest getting one from here! They are always friendly here and they bring your order right out to your table. The pupusas usually take a little longer to make so be patient if you ordered any, It is worth the wait! There is also a salsa bar where you can grab all the salsas that your heart desires! read more

Went over to eat at this place while car was getting maintenance done at Toyota. Short walk. Service was okay. Food was just okay. Ordered the asada super burrito with beans and sour cream- they forgot the sour cream and beans. No problem, didn't bring it to their attention. Just asada and rice. Bland. The whole bottom fell out of this burrito. Ha! Was messy but tasted alright. Placed order to go and noticed when I got home- it was something different than ordered. 4 stars is being generous. read more

I'm a lucky dude. My wife loves me. She loves me so much she shows me with bags full of piping hot pupusas and pickled curtido! Pupusas revueltas. Pupusas de Calabaza. Pupusa habanero. They're all delicious! I normally eat very little during the day, but when she came home the other day with takeout, I couldn't resist. The delicate masa, slightly crisped on the griddle, and the ooey gooey delicious fillings are just perfect, and the curtido is a beautiful contrast to it all. Can't wait for some more! read more

Not the most modern of establishments but certainly among the most authentic!! My family has been coming here for years, it's safe to say that their most recognized dish is their pupusas! I opt for the cheese filled pupusas but my family will mix it up from time to time and get cheese & beans, chorizo, you name it. I'd also be lackin in this review if I didn't mention their aguas frescas! How can you expect to have a delicious Mexican/Salvadoran meal without an Horchata to compliment? And as a girl who grew up eating Hispanic food, I'd have to say this restaurant gets my star of approval for homemade feel and fresh taste! read more

Pupusa me! This place is conveniently located in the same shopping center as Costco, so you can reward yourself by going to this place after all that shopping. I ordered the #10, which had 2 pupusas, rice, and beans which was a little over $10 with tax. For the pupusas, I chose to have both filled with cheese and chicken. When my order was ready, the filling was nice and melted. The size of the pupusas were pretty big, I was only able to eat one of them and half of the sides. The really great part about this place is the salsa and toppings section that is right next to the pickup window. They have your classic El Salvadorian spicy cabbage and an array of different sauces/salsas. I loaded up on the spicy salsa and the cabbage so that each bit had a little bit of everything. Even the rice and bean had really good flavor. If you are wanting to skip the sides and are only wanting to eat the pupusas, then you can do a la carte pupusas. If you order 2, that will ring up to a little over $5. I also tried the agua de jamaica, which is a hibiscus drink. This reminded me of pomegranate juice. It wasn't too sweet either. I would like to try the menudo and tacos, which looks really good. Definitely come check this place out if you haven't already. You can't go wrong with ordering their pupusas. read more
I got to try El Paisano due to a Yelp event. In honor of Latinx Heritage Month, I was going to try a pupusa plate! I had an asada taco added to it. There was some confusion in my orders in a two day period, but they were fixed immediately! Staff is helpful! The atmosphere was cozy and quiet, everyone following Covid protocol. There are so many options on the menu! I look forward to trying everything! The food is delicious! Authentic. I highly recommend! read more

I wouldn't hesitate to come here for their fresh made pupusas! We ordered chicken tamales, a couple pupusas and a chile relleno with extra beans on the side. I will tell you this is probably one if not the only top spot to go for Salvadorian food in Reno. The pupusas are quite a generous serving size and they make it with your choice of filling, that's why they take a bit longer but definitely well worth the wait. The tamales are different than the Mexican tamales, the texture is smoother than their Mexican counterparts. I prefer the Salvadorian version better because they are more moist. Their version of, as close as I could describe is, coleslaw is a much hotter version than the plain ones I prefer, their use chili flakes and jalapeños, too hot for my liking. I wanted to try their chile relleno since I absolutely love them. They did not disappoint, it came with a wonderful rice, not that converted stuff pretending to be rice, and beans. The chile relleno were not as generous with the cheese stuffing as I like it but they were good nonetheless. I do like this place and you will too if looking for great pupupsas. read more
Came to el Paisano to have a pupusa. I've never had a pupusa before and I honestly had no idea what to expect. In my head I was guessing it would be some kind of tortilla with topping on top. I was wrong.... pleasantly!!! It is filled inside and then fried. It was so delicious!!! I got mine with chicken, cheese beans and zucchini. The girl working the counter was very nice. She helped me and was patient with my questions I got the plate which came with beans and rice. This is an inexpensive plate and really fills you up!! I'm so glad I had the opportunity to try this place! I had never heard of this restaurant but now I can't wait to go back! The wait time was a bit long, especially for the place being pretty empty at the time that we went. But the food was worth it. Delicious! read more
Listen, y'all. Hands down some of the best pupusas I've ever had. I currently live in Dallas and I knew that when I landed this HAD to be my first meal in town. Did not disappoint. I hadn't been back in town for over 4yrs and for THAT long I craved their pupusas. Y'all. So flavorful. You got a condiment and salsa bar that is so tasty! Great family run restaurant. Kind, quick service, you can call ahead if you don't wanna wait and the prices are I will be back EVERY time I'm in town. Y'all can bet on it!!! read more

The cashier wA very helpful and greeted us. We ordered pupusas and fish tacos during our visit. The pupusas we're delicious! Very cheesy, fresh and tasted homemade. The fish tacos were a little dry. The fish did not taste hot only lukewarm which makes me believe it wasn't fresh. We recommend buying & tasting the pupusas. read more

El paisano has great pupusas. At $3.75 each they are pretty filling. The tacos on the other hand pretty expensive for the size. Got a $3 carne asada taco a couple pupusas. I got more bang for the buck going the pupusa route. read more

My family and I have been coming here for years. The pupusas taste just like they do in El Salvador. My favorite is the zucchini and cheese pupusa. Definitely a place everyone should try at least once! read more
