The food is great but the waitstaff needs training on how to listen to what diners are saying. We mentioned to our server at least twice that we were splitting the entree because the portions are enough for 2. The server decided that we were each ordering our own. When my wife paid the bill and mentioned to the owner that she needed to talk to her employee about listening to what people are saying became defensive and said that we should've sent it back. We weren't asking for anything to be credited. Had she just initially said "I am sorry that happened i will talk to her" I wouldn't be writing this. 1 star for customer service. read more

I visited family in Palmdale for the week, so checked Yelp for a good breakfast place in their area that doesn't belong to a chain. Chelly's came up with good reviews so I gave it a try and went there with my sister. I had the Eggs Benedict as that is my measuring stick for breakfast places and generally the deciding factor if I will return. The hollandaise sauce had a little too much lemon in it, but was a good consistency and there was enough to ensure every bite would have some sauce with it. The sauce may have been a tad sour, but the eggs were perfectly poached and the bacon and English muffin were good as well. The orange juice was outstanding and freshly made. My sister had an omelet that she enjoyed and devoured. The next morning I went solo, mainly because I was fiending the orange juice. I ended up ordering chilaquiles (mild, with red sauce), which is something I have not had since Mexico. If you haven't had them it can be best described as soggy corn chips with salsa and cheese; doesn't sound good, but they are awesome! (especially with a hangover) Interestingly, the busboy initially took my orange juice order and brought a glass over which I immediately took a giant quaff of weak orange juice .... This is not the same stuff! The waitress came over a few minutes later and looked at the half-empty glass and asked if it tasted okay and she could tell it wasn't due to my hesitation to answer. She took the glass and said she would bring another, which she did and then told me the last glass wasn't mixed so all the goodness had settled to the bottom of the pitcher. That glass of OJ was just as awesome as the one from the day before. Anyways, the chilaquiles came out and was very good and initiated a food coma. The last full day of my visit I brought my Mom in for breakfast. Of course, orange juice was the first thing on my mind, like I was some orange juice junkie. I ordered the Belgian Waffle with eggs and bacon, and my Mom got hash browns, eggs and sausage and a home-made honey nut muffin. I explained Yelp to my Mom, and she told me to say in the review, "The muffin is divine." I tried a piece and yeah it was good, but I think I would rather have a blueberry muffin. The waffle was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft in the middle and had a vanilla cinnamon flavor. It was a good waffle. I ordered a pumpkin muffin for my Mom to go, which she ate the next morning and said was good. I visited Chelly's three times on a five-day vacation! Yeah, it is good. The staff is very friendly and it doesn't take very long to get the food or get seated. Although all my visits were during the week so I can't say how weekend waits would look like. read more

Went on a Sunday with my husband and son. It is a very cramped restaurant. We had to stand against a wall while we waited for a table. It was pretty busy, understandably being a Sunday. We did get seated somewhat quickly and ordered drinks. Iced tea tasted old. Ordered bacon and eggs which was average. Nothing special. I went to salt and pepper my eggs and hash browns and it was like someone loosened the lid on the salt shaker because it came out so fast and so much at a time- I couldn't even eat my eggs. We asked the waitress if all the salt shakers were like this and she tried a few and they were all the same. Salt just poured out. Gross. read more

The food was average, service was bad. I ordered a vegetarian omelet, home fries and blueberry muffin and my friend ordered eggs Benedict with a bran muffin. Both plates were Spartan in appearance and quantity, they certainly won't get any awards for presentation. No frills, not even a single garnish and plenty of empty space on the plates. The omelet was OK. Nothing special, but at least the food wasn't too greasy. My home fries had a hair in them. I pointed it out to the waitress and she took it back and brought me a new plate. My friend had to substitute the bran muffin for the normal side dish selection. The waitress went back to ask if that was OK. She said they don't normally do it, but would make an exception. She neglected to tell us that there would be a $1 charge. So, we received our bill ($11.81), I assumed that they had not charged me for my omelet due to the hair. I gave the waitress my card and she returned with my receipt which was for $18.87. Turns out we were charged full price. I really didn't have a problem with paying for everything, but I do have a problem with staff bringing a check to the table and then running your card for more than the amount without ever telling the customer that a mistake was made. I took the bill to the counter and asked about it and told them that I was displeased. They offered to refund the difference, but I declined. It's simple - honesty is the best policy. Own up to your mistakes and don't try to pull a fast one on your customers. I will not return, the food just wasn't that good and the wait staff is worse. read more

Seated immediately upon entering; a menu was give just as quick, order taken and food served; just that fast. Was in Palmdale for business and couldn't help but stop. The menu looked great but I decided on chicken fried steak. It was AMAZING, could be the best chicken fried steak I have ever had, breading was so light but flavorful and the gravy followed suit. The hashbrowns and eggs were perfect too and it even came with a homemade muffin!! Coffee was refilled right away, great service. Wow...ok. So, been there twice. One for breakfast and once for lunch. Breakfast was sit down, lunch was to go. -Breakfast - I had the chilaquiles my wife had basic sausage, bacon and eggs. I dont know what it is but the hashbrowns were not crisp and her toast was soft (?). My chilaquiles was fair but they need to put the chips and cheese on the plate THEN the over easy eggs and green sauce. It was MUSH. No crispiness to the tortilla chips at all!! - Lunch - I was solo so I was going to grab a newspaper and sit down inside. I walked in - 2:20pm - and the staff was mopping with a liquid with heavy "chlorine-like" smell. It looked as if they wanted to be out at 3pm SHARP! So, as a courtesy, I ordered to go. I ordered the pastrami melt and asked what was on it. Glad I did. The young woman said "mayonnaise and pastrami". I've ordered many pastrami melts in my time so I asked to remove the mayo, add mustard and swiss cheese. Keep it on sourdough. Add curly fries and a diet coke. She repeated the order to me and I advised her that I would like the curly fries "well done". Well...the sandwich was bad. *The meat was great though* the sandwich was soggy and not crisp as a "melt" typically is. The fries??? Soggy and undercooked. Yes. The restaurant is clean and the staff means well. They've got to understand how fries, toast, chips and "melts" should finish when plating it all. Its effort but not correct effort. I hope they pull it out and educate or remind their cooks on what the finished product should look like and what "well done curly fries" looks like. Maybe they just wanted to get out of there. Took my kids here to try out somewhere different. I rarely get to go to anywhere besides Scramblez in Quartz Hill because my kids just love it there. But I wanted to broaden their horizons, so we went here. I liked the food, the home made jam, and the coffee kept coming regularly. The only ding I'd give on this place is that the food came out only slightly warm. Considering there was only one other custome in the joint, I would have expected better. I'm a pretty easy critic, and good food and service will often sway an extra star out of me, but the food temp thing just stuck with me. I would definitely go back with my wife, but my kids are creatures of habbit. Their new favorite place is up in Big Bear. The Antelope Valley doesn't have a lot of great breakfast/brunch restaurants. This one is definitely a gem. Chelly's Cafe is small and hidden in a row among other small stores but it's definitely worth stopping by. We went on a Saturday morning and the place was about 75% full. We were sat immediately and our drinks were ordered right away. Our servers name was Kelly and her customer service was great. She let us look over the menu&made sure to check in on us. We ordered: - Chilaquiles with green sauce&beans. - Howie's Waffles - they were topped with strawberries, blueberries&bananas. - Eggs Benedict with hash browns. EVERYTHING was great and we had no complaints on any of the dishes. Service was great, their orange juice is freshly squeezed, &the prices are very reasonable. As we were leaving there were about three larger parties waiting outside to be seated. The place is small so if you have to wait I'm sure it can be quite some time. I have came here twice and each time was great the first time I came with a group of 4 people we found a table right way and were brought our drinks shortly after our food came out timely and it was really good. The second time I came in on a Friday we wanted a table by the window which had someone's left over dishes once they saw we wanted to sit there they came over and cleaned up the table right away and asked us if we would like coffee before we even sat down which was nice.. our waitress was great on top of us the entire time. The only reason I am giving a 4 star is because it was a bit warmer in the restaurant than I would have liked but the food and service was great. read more

Let's start out with this: My husband and I came in for breakfast/lunch, the place is absolutely packed. We get a table right away and start looking over the menu. The young man comes to our table and asks if we would like anything to drink, we ordered coffee and water. When he brought the coffee to the table he accidentally dropped it and it landed on my leg. It hurt extremely bad. No one came to my aide or the poor young mans aide they just all stood there and stared. Where Is management or owners when something like this happens? They leave the poor drink guy out on a limb feeling bad for what he has done, let alone to check on me and see if I am okay. I have never been to any establishment that left the employee to deal with a situation like this. I will be going to the doctor to see how bad my skin is burned. The service was neither exceptional or bad. The outdoor seating arrangement is acceptable because it wasn't too hot but they might want to invest in table cover for the stains - I'm sure it was cleaned but I did question the sanitary quality. I ordered chilaquiles, the portion size was smaller than expected for the price, especially as there was no meat in it, but it was edible. I opted for mixed fruit as a side as strawberry and pineapple were part of it. I received one strawberry cut in 4 pieces and a piece of pineapple the size of the tip of my pinky finger that wasn't very good. The rest was melon and honeydew which was left behind. My boyfriend got a pastrami sandwich that included Swiss cheese and sauerkraut only - no condiments on it or anything and it was missing the sauerkraut and Swiss cheese. Literally bread and pastrami. It was so entirely underwhelming he almost decided to just leave it there but I convinced him to bring it home so the pastrami meat doesn't go to waste - that part was good. The orange juice was fresh but not made with seedless Navel oranges (like most orange juice) so I wasn't a fan of the taste and my boyfriend had an allergic reaction. I would first want to say that because the place is a cafe and not an actual restaurant it does explain many of the things I found sort of negative. So it is a bit noisy and the tables are quite small if you want to sit comfortably for to sit at a table for 4. The food was all good don't forget to look at their specials board as they have things that are not on the actual menu. Nothing that wowed me but it was good and the service was kind friendly and quick the space was very clean the portions were decent the price was also decent. Definitely not a place to take any large parties. And like I said while I wasn't disappointed in any way I also was not super impressed. We did love their salsa verde that they had sitting on the table to add to any of your dishes which I also felt was nice because you didn't have to keep asking for more salsa which for my husband and myself is usually the case. I would definitely recommend if you are looking just for a straightforward breakfast and you're not looking for anything quiet and intimate. read more
