Mini sesame rice ball in sweet rice wine soup
    Hank C.

Stopped back in - the kids like the ma po tofu, spring rolls, and the pork spare ribs with garlic (they didn't have the salt pepper ribs anymore). Lots of rice to go with that! They didn't like the tomato-sauce based spicy stir fried shredded potato (mild) though, the sour and spicy version at Hot Fish was declared better. The adults liked the beef stir-fried rice noodle, the chicken in chili oil (missed the chili oil initially, they brought it back out and was great over rice), thin sliced beef in golden sour soup was excellent, though not quite sour enough for some, cauliflower dry pot was good with pork (less spicy), and mae xue wang was just right on spice and flavor. Dessert - the mini rice ball in sweet rice wine soup was a hit all around. Good dessert and treat! Definitely busy after 5:30p, good thing we came earlier. About $26 a person at the end, and we had a lot of food (and some leftovers), very reasonable compared to some of the places near to us in Northern NJ. We'll be back!

Large dining area with booths and large round table to accommodate big groups. Noise level was acceptable.

The servers were very polite and attentive. We weren't rushed to order. The hot and sour seafood soup was flavorful with a slightly different taste, still very good and a nice amount of heat. General Cho's chicken arrived hot and tasty. Inside was very open with booths and many large tales to accommodate big groups.

Good food that came out quickly for takeout. Would return. Saw this place a few years back and tried it last week when in the area. Glad I did. The menu is more streamlined than when it opened but still has some of my favorites including shredded pork. We tried the following for takeout: Shredded pork in sweet bean sauce - this came with sliced scallions in a sweet bean sauce accompanied by soft pillowy buns instead of pancakes. A nice touch. The pork was tasty and went quickly. Shredded pork with dried tofu - this came with celery in a light savory sauce, with a little more tofu than pork. Very good. HomeStyle stir fried tofu - this came with wood ear mushrooms in a brown sauce and my wife especially liked it. General Tso's Chicken - this came with broccoli and was also good. Parking is in a shared strip mall lot. Had no problem finding a space. Waited a few minutes for pickup as the restaurant was starting dinner rush. I ordered by phone since their online service was not taking orders. Would return if in the area. Note they are closed Tuesdays.

Chef Zhang is, in my and my fiancé's opinion, the BEST Chinese restaurant in the area. I cannot tell you how many times we've either dined here or have debated dining here. Every time we plan to eat out, Chef Zhang is mentioned by at least one of us as an option. Usually, when we arrive for dinner on the earlier side it's pretty slow, but halfway through our dinner it gets very busy. The service is always good. The servers are very kind, are constantly making rounds to refill our waters (Chef Zhang is BYOB so we always have some wine), and we never feel rushed. Some of our favorite dishes include salt & pepper fried fish filets, minced pork in garlic sauce, double cooked pork belly, and the best scallion pancakes around. You really can't go wrong with anything on their menu unless you can't handle heat as some of the dishes do get pretty spicy. At our most recent visit we ordered the toothpick lamb. It was amazing! The crisp texture, the flavors, the heat. As long as I have someone with me that is willing to split it (my fiancé doesn't like that kind of heat) I'd order it every time. One of my favorite things about Chef Zhang, other than how consistently flavorful and enjoyable the food ends up being, is the portion sizes of each dish as they're perfect for sharing! This is the perfect restaurant to dine with a group of people, order various different dishes, and split/share everything. Some of the round tables even have Lazy Suzans which makes sharing with a group even easier. We're so lucky we have such a quality restaurant this close to home. We'll never get tired of eating here and we already can't wait to go back. Chef Zhang is a must try if you're looking for quality, flavorful, authentic Chinese food.

traditional chinese restaurant with authentic sichuan food! i've heard this restaurant referred to as the best chinese restaurant in the area multiple times now, so naturally i had to check it out. it definitely didn't disappoint! the food was perfect for family-style, and the portions were extremely generous. everything was so delicious, and i loved that their sichuan food was actually spicy enough. we ordered the chicken in chili oil to start (口水鸡) which was actually my favorite dish of the night. the chicken was perfectly cooked, so tender and flavorful. we also shared the fried diced chicken with dry red chili (辣子鸡) and the stir-fried pork feet with pickled chili (泡椒蹄花) which were both spicy and delicious. the chicken dish is a classic sichuan item, and the chicken was perfectly fried. it actually looked better than the photos, and there was a significant amount of chicken. i was pleasantly surprised by the pork feet, it's not something that i typically would order but i enjoyed it much more than i expected. we rounded all the meat we ate out with the spicy stir-fried cabbage which was fresh and flavorful. we were sat at a booth which was roomy and comfy. there were plenty of open tables available at 7pm on a thursday, but there were several other groups enjoying dinner as well. the vibe is more old-fashioned, classic traditional chinese restaurant. service was good, our waitress was on top of filling our waters. overall, i really enjoyed this spot and would highly recommend it if you're a fan of mala (麻辣). everything we ate was spicy, we didn't try any of their non-spicy items, and i think that was the right move -- it's clear that sichuan-style food is what this spot is so well known for. only complaint is that it's not in the city, but i'm definitely gonna make my friend drive me out here again!

Amazing place. Stopped in Saturday night for dinner and was greeted with amazing smells and delicious looking meals from all the full tables. The place was almost full but we were lucky to get the last booth. We started off with the pork soup dumplings which were small in size but large in flavor. The green beans were crispy, seasoned perfectly and had minced pork. The beef was tender and packed a punch. We ordered everything medium hot which worked fine with the green beans but was slightly too hot for us with the beef. We will definitely be back.

Full stop. if you love Szechuan you need to go to Chef Zhang. They've got a totally authentic menu with chicken, beef, lamb, shrimp, but then kidney and intestine and ... you get the idea. It's quite an extensive menu as well. Much bigger than most Szechuan places that tend to hone in on the classics. Next, they rate the spice from 0-3 which seems like a small scale. Well, I can handle some pretty good spice and 1 had me in a bit of a head sweat. So 2 would have been HOT. 3...not sure I want to try 3! There are plenty of 0s on the menu so don't fear the spice. And for those less adventurous, they do have a few standard Chinese American classics on there as well. Service was great. Decor was I'd say above average for a mom and pop Chinese restaurant. Prices are pretty reasonable and serving sizes are HUGE. Did I mention you should go? Yes! You should go. Lastly, always always always get the smashed cucumber with garlic. Always.

Chef Zhang - Marlton Spicy Chinese food, "Oh, I could die for you." There's not many more food delights that I have than getting the lip tingling, mouth numbing sensation from Sichuan peppercorns and other hot chili's. When I walked in and saw Lazy Susan's on some of the tables, I knew I was in for an old school treat. Chef Zhangs offers some of your Americanized classic Chinese dishes, but they also have items that you aren't going to find at your typical spots. Some of these dishes include stir-fried intestines with hot peppers, spicy stir-fried kidneys, salt and pepper fried frogs, just to name a few. Those dishes would be a little too adventurous for me to take on all by myself, but if I were to go with someone who has a comfort level eating those, I'd really like to try them and expand my horizons and give them a try! Pictured here are the pork soup dumplings, toothpick lamb with dry red chili, and stir-fried sliced pork with hot pepper. Of course, I asked for everything extra spicy. Everything was exquisite! The spicy heat levels were on point. I appreciate they took my request seriously. The toothpick lamb, the bite of pepper along with the ginger and garlic, oh my, it was just divine. The sliced pork (they asked if pork belly would be okay and I wasn't going to say no) had at least 3 different types of peppers. I have a high spice tolerance, so I was still able to taste everything and enjoy. This is some of the best Chinese food I may have ever had. It's a spot I know I'm returning to next time I want legit Chinese cuisine. Also, I have to note that they brew you fresh loose tea and not something from a tea bag. They don't need bonus points from me, but they get it anyway. Lastly, I don't want to overlook our servers who were so kind to answer any of my questions, patient while I overlooked the menu, and overall did a fantastic job. Please put Chef Zhang on your list of places to check out!

毛血旺 tripe blood pork rind & others
    Emma Z.

Pretty authentic Szechuan cuisine, the portion size it big, so come with a crowd. Their fish is a signature dish and comes in a large pot. Shareable by 4-5 ppl (if you also order other dishes). We also tried their pickled pepper trotter and the traditional tripe/blood pot (Mao Xue Wang), both were pretty good - if you like spicy foods. Food comes quickly. It's a busy spot even on weekday dinners.

    Vegetable fried rice. Delish!
    Lulu B.

Delicious, traditional (as in not Americanized), Chinese food. Although some dishes are really salty like the diced chicken we ordered today (see photo) so be careful if you have high blood pressure. But the eggplant + potato and vegetable fried rice we had were excellent (see photos).

    Sliced chicken with pickled peppers

If ordering from Szechwan side of the menu, choices are usually fantastic! If ordering from the Chinese-American side of the menu, choices are okay. This place is only one of few in South Jersey that has real Szechwan cuisine. Otherwise, you have to drive to Philly's Chinatown. Service is great and Ambiance is pleasant. Good for families, as well as couples.

    Mapo tofu with minced pork
    Phylicia H.

Our favorite Szechuan restaurant closed so we were looking for a new spot to fulfill the cravings. This restaurant was close by and had good reviews so we wanted to give it a try. Very tasty, but wasn't the best we ever had. We do not plan on reordering the same things we bought tonight. We ordered scallion pancakes, smashed cucumbers, mapo tofu and general tso. The prices were reasonable and food came out hot and fast. We ordered scallion pancakes, but they accidentally gave us spring rolls instead. Vegetables with vermicelli noodles. Solid but would've been better if it came with sauce. Smashed cucumbers were refreshing and a huge quantity. Great palette cleanser when eating spicy food. Entree time. General tso was not great. It honestly tasted a day old. Chicken was very dry, and most importantly the sauce was extremely sticky and mucous like. I can't explain it but the sauce was so sticky and mucous like. Flavor was still there and it was still addicting. It had a chili pepper emoji on the menu, but zero spice. Mapo tofu was spicy, flavorful, and great packaging. A bit stingy on the minced pork and the tofu was too soft for my liking. We did think the mapo tofu was the best thing we ate tonight. Not our favorite Szechuan/Chinese restaurant, but a place I'd still retry in the future. I just plan on ordering some new things!

We went on a Sunday night and were greeted warmly by the the hostess and got a table right away. Our waitron was quick to appear and was delighted that it was our first time there. She pointed out why we made a good choice --- fish delivered fresh every day and approved by the manager or it was returned to the vendor. She started us with, again, surprisingly good --- and I am a bread snob --- ciabatta bread and very good oil and pesto to dip it in. The reason I gave the place only four stars were two of the recommended cocktails, a smoked Manhattan and a French 75. Both were just fair. I've had a lot better elsewhere, but I bet if you'd stick to simple, classic cocktails, you'd be pleased. I will try that strategy myself next time that we go. Entrees are smallish, but do you want something that's all-tasty, or a generous pile of crap? So I had the grilled shrimp diablo; spicy, but well made with just slightly overcooked pasta, more than enough to satisfy me. She had the grilled mahi mahi with mango ...chutney(?), jasmine rice and broccoli. I tried it --- very, very good. The wine list is adequate; we both liked our choices, Duckhorn sauvignon blanc, for the mahi and Chandon sparkling rosé, which went particularly well with the spicy shrimp. Sorry, we didn't have dessert. Service was quick and very friendly, and the food arrived hot and was quite good. The decor is tastefully well done and the music they play is unobtrusive. Yes. From the outside, Eddie V's already gives off a polished, upscale feel, and once inside, the jazz playing softly in the background immediately set the tone. We grabbed seats at the bar, which I highly recommend. Pro tip: arrive early if you want bar seating, the bartenders are extremely friendly, genuinely engaging, and it is fun to watch them craft the drinks. We took full advantage of the happy hour menu with a dozen oysters, Wagyu beef sliders, a dirty martini, and a glass of Caymus. The happy hour pricing is a solid deal and the food quality was excellent. Another couple joined us, so we moved to a table and continued into dinner. Appetizers included a Caesar salad, burrata and beet salad, and lobster bisque. The burrata and beet salad was bright, fresh, and zesty and really stood out. The lobster bisque was the one miss of the night, served lukewarm with only a small piece of lobster. For mains, we ordered the Chilean sea bass prepared Chinese-style and the A5 Wagyu dumplings. The sea bass was exceptional, flavorful, perfectly cooked, and generously portioned. The wine list is phenomenal with great options by the glass and bottle, and the cocktail program is clearly handled by skilled professionals. This is also a great choice for a romantic night out. The bone-in, dry-aged New York strip may have been one of the most tender, perfectly cooked, and well-seasoned steaks I've ever had. Every side was just as impressive--the truffle mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts, and crab fried rice were all absolutely delicious. Dessert was the perfect finish to an already amazing meal. They were crispy and had lots of crab in them, I believe it was claw meat. The lobster bisque was also delish. The hot smoke whiting was warm, Smokey and flakey with a wonderful taste. It came with hot butter and was so good we ordered a second plate. For entrees we ordered the mussels in spicy red sauce, the broiled combo platter with shrimps and scallops and a crabby cake. Oyster stew, and baked jumbo lump crab meat. All came with coleslaw, and a side. We got onion rings and French fries and they were good. They weren't the cheap onion rings. They were battered not breaded, and thats how I like them. The spicy clams and mussels really had a kick, so be prepared because it was a little too much for the ladies at our table. The oyster stew was not as thick as we wanted and was a little watery. My crab cake was packed with jumbo lump crab and the whole meal was really delicious and filling. This is why this place has stood the test of time!

This restaurant needs to stay on our radar more often!…read more Il Villaggio offers a Happy Hour Menu with drink and food specials. It's $6 off bar menu items, $3 off cocktails and wine, and $2 off draft beers. Sunday through Thursday from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM. At the bar, we enjoyed the Filet Mignon Carpaccio, the Shrimp Spring Rolls, and we all shared the Homemade Gnocchi (Porcini cream sauce). Get the gnocchi! For dinner, we ordered the Homemade Lobster Raviolis, Penne Vodka (my love and I split this) and one of the ravioli specials. Everything was delicious. We sat at a high-top table in the beautiful bar area. It was lively and cozy. There was live entertainment but at a comfortable volume. The staff was very welcoming and warm. Even the food runners were engaging. A great time all around!

I do not eat seafood and was confused by the fishy smell and presence of meat. Luckily it was a simple cross-table mixup. Furthermore, the mushroom gnocchi was horrible. It was made with pure whipping cream, which is probably a valid Italian approach, but it had to have been 100g of fat, and it tasted like warm thick milk, with no flavor and minimal mushrooms. I felt sick to my stomach the rest of the night. The restaurant was packed and tastefully decorated. They have a great signature cocktail list but I couldn't hear myself or anyone at my table. Average decibel level was 85 through the course of our 90 minute stay. My ears felt raw once I got outside. Lastly, it's a mandatory (and complimentary) valet for parking. Just be prepared. If you like Italian, may be worth a shot. Folks were pleased with oysters and mashed potatoes at my table, but I have no desire to come back.

This review covers a few visits. Happy hour, good deal, tasty food and drinks and pretty good…read moreservice, would recommend. Group event, went as part of a holiday party and the food, service and wine were all on point. This was a long happy hour not sit down so I cannot attest to a large group sit down dinner. Lastly dining in the main dining room, 6 people, Saturday night. Service was thin, read, our server was busy with a large group in the back and the neglect was evident. Now this doesn't mean the rest of the restaurant crew couldn't step in but really didn't. We were graced with a water refill once over the course of the dinner, although the friendly server who did pour the water said she walks around to fill water, she was never seen again. Our entrees were brought by a group of servers who disappeared after placement of the plates. So it would appear people were working they just seemed to ignore our table. Food was great, I wouldn't have gone if I didn't think the food was on par, but spending this kind of money you want a balance of service and food. You can see the accumulation of glasses that went on removed between wines. Now happy hour is discounted and you are at the bar so you get front and center service. Standing in the group room you are able to flag a server, sitting in the middle of the dining area and being largely ignored just rubs you the wrong way. I had two people ask why are you going to Flemings when I told them our plans. A competing steak house at the Cherry Hill Mall, we have attended many, many times without fail. You don't know how good you have it until you go someplace else and realize service is a lost art at some places. I am posting more for public service announcement, i would hope management reviews and tries to address this rather large service gap. I have never had this issue at the capital Grill, so it is disappointing to encounter it here, particularly when the food was on point.
