Went here not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. The inside is really nice, kind of dark and cozy with moody lighting. Food is affordable and solid. We got egg drop soup, wonton soup, and stir fried green beans with rice. The broth on both soups were savory but not overly salty. The chili oil is actually really good too, it's seasoned and, not just oil with pepper flakes. They also have a covered patio which is nice. Service was quick and everything was very clean. Stopped in for lunch and we were immediately impressed by the presentation of this restaurant. It is so cute and inviting! Our server was prompt and friendly and took great care of us through the meal. The food also came out remarkable fast! Unfortunately in this case the food did not match the decor and service. We saw the three pepper chicken on almost every table and had to try it. The overall flavor was good, but for something that has three peppers and a notation of spicy on the menu there was no spice to the flavor at all. The presentation however is great. The Flat Noodles with beef were a disappointment. The noodles were only about half the width of what you would traditionally have and they were very Al dente. There was no wok flavor and the noodles seemed like they had been boiled and then sauced. For a restaurant that prides themselves on their noodles with was a let down. You can tell they used dirty rags to wipe them and the table down. The food: The lo main noodles were greasy. The "popular", Three Flavor Pepper chicken was nothing but greasy fried battered chicken pieces tossed in a boat ton of red chilies and jalapeños. Gross The House Special Soup Boa lacked soup and the flavor of the chicken inside was so underwhelming. The best thing about this place was the jasmine tea but, how can you mess up throwing tea bag's in a cup of water. Safe to say, we won't be back. read more

Lunch combos, appetizers and everything in between. I had already decided what I wanted, but the smells and seeing what others ordered had me second guessing. I eventually settled on the DaDan Noodles and Dani got the lunch combo. Our meals came out fast and hot. The DanDan noodles were so tasty and the portion was filling! I ordered medium spicy, I wanted a kick, and would go up a level next time. Dani's lunch combo was incredible! It was a little of everything, I may try that next time too! Pretty solid Chinese food but not as good a the Plano location. The biang biang noodles had a nice chew though one of them was a little too watery with the sauce. The soup dumplings were good but they no longer serve pork, and I understand why, but their pork soup dumplings were my favorite in DFW so disappointed that they no longer have them. read more

Came here today, with the family, to celebrate mother's day, unfortunately it was not the best, I had high hopes for this place. Place looks very nice and fancy. Waiters were nice and friendly, but the food took forever to come out, my youngest sons lo mein order came out in minutes very quickly, but the rest of our noodle orders took a very long time about 25 to 30 minutes, .y big chicken bowl was tasty, but the few pieces of chicken O had were extremely boney, lots of small bones, not fun eating this dish. My son had the beef and tripe noodles, he did not like his plate, and hardly ate it, I tasted it, and was very bland. To be honest the best plate we had was an appetizer the garlic spicy edamame, it was out of this world. Then my wife won a free appetizer so she ordered the puffs with bean paste in the. They are also tasty, but we had to box them togo, because this even took about 10 to 15 minutes to get. It was honestly very bland -- to the point where even adding soy sauce didn't help much. What stood out more than the food, though, was the service experience. I don't usually speak on things like this, and I'm not someone who throws around accusations or tries to make everything about race. But it felt noticeable that the manager (a woman with a ponytail) checked in on other tables consistently and warmly, while our table was overlooked. She also made a point to say goodbye to other guests but not to us. We were polite, presentable, and respectful, and we always tip well -- which we still did. That said, the difference in treatment felt off. I'm a pretty grounded and conservative person, so even writing this feels uncomfortable, but it's worth mentioning because respect and consistency in service matter. To be clear, I don't believe in grouping people or pushing stereotypes. Racism toward any group is wrong, period. But it's especially disappointing to feel that kind of energy as a POC from another POC. Overall, I hope this is just an off day and not reflective of the standard experience. We've been to Chef Sun's a few times now, and it's never disappointed. From appetizers through to desserts, the food and service have been excellent. The decor has a nice, modern vibe with good lighting, as well as comfortable seating. Here are some highlights from our visits: Three Flavor Pepper Chicken - This is the one dish everyone should try. It's incredible. The service is in a basket that's kind of a cornucopia shaped thing, and the delicate fried chicken pieces inside feature, not surprisingly, pepper in three ways, including my favorite. Szechuan peppercorns. These little bombshells look like normal pepper, but have a flavor that I simply can't describe. Hot, sweet, and just a burst of lingering flavor. Hot and sour soup - One of if not the best examples of this I've ever tasted, it puts both the hot and sour in the dish. Velvety texture enrobes the other ingredients, making it a clear knockout of a soup, Seasoned just right as well, you probably won't be reaching for the soy sauce as I often do. Lamb shumai - A wonderful, delicate soft wonton wrapped around a very nice lamb filling, letting the flavor of the meat come through without being gamey as lamb can sometimes be. An unexpected awesome dish Spicy edamame - Again, a top tier specimen of a oft seen dish, this one again takes it to a different level with a great spice blend and very fresh pods, large in size, these healthy yet delicous starters will surely please everyone I could go on and on, but bottom line: this place is incredible and every dish we've had across four diners and multiple visits has wowed us. It's true! Both locations are owned by the same people. We met the owner and his daughter a week ago, who warmly invited us to come back and try their expanded menu. Tonight we gave it a shot. And by the end of our meal, I dreaded having to write this review. We ordered three entrees: Orange Chicken - Large, perfectly cooked chicken chunks, tangy orange sauce made with real orange rind, and a generous amount of peppers and onions. Delicious. No complaints. Shrimp Lo Mein - Lo mein portion was reasonable, but where'd the shrimp go? The butane gas taste was horrible. It was not editable. Can't report it if you don't have a waiter! 招牌陕西油泼面 House Biang Biang Noodle - Still the best thing on the menu. If you want their top dish, this is it. Customer service was zero. One person seated us, another took our order, someone else brought the food... and then we were abandoned. No one waited on us. If one person had checked in, we could have told them the Shrimp Lo Mein tasted like butane gas. We also needed our water re-filled before our food arrived -- and needed water especially while eating. Not having a waiter made us miserable!! Yes, it is definitely nice to have a restaurant of this kind offer halal options, but in comparison to other Chinese restaurants, some of the dishes here weren't as flavorful. The biggest hit for us was the garlic bok choy. That was absolutely delicious and I could eat pounds and pounds of it. The dan dan noodles, shumai, and red oil wontons were also good, along with the mongolian beef. The beef wraps and crab rangoon were misses for me. While the 3 pepper chicken and salt & pepper fish lacked salt and that umami flavor (probably needed some MSG to be honest). Kung pao chicken, the lo mein, and sesame balls were ok. Rainbow dumplings were a hit and miss - some were good and some I did not enjoy. Ample space for groups with indoor and outdoor seating. Food comes out pretty quickly despite them being so busy. This place is right next to us since we live within Craig Ranch. Went for a quick lunch with wifey and ordered 2 dishes from the Chef's Special - Pepper Chicken and the Salt & Spicy Shrimp. The biggest mistake was that we didn't ask for a walk of the dish and hence ended up ordering dishes that were deep fried. It was quite dry and we found it hard to eat fried stuff beyond a point. I blame only 4 stars on my desensitized American palate. I ordered the house biang biang noodles. I expected big flavors based off of past Chinese food experiences from around the Dallas metroplex for the past 20 years. I was underwhelmed by the simple flavors of the food. After a few bites, I had to come back to reality and really evaluate the food I was eating. The noodles were fun. They provide scissors to cut the noodles, as they are thick. They lie on the al dente side, delightfully chewy. I got beef added, which was tender and played well with the noodles. There seemed to be a very thin sauce on the dish, which kept it from being dry. I added some chili oil that came on the table to brighten it up. I had leftovers. Hub got the beef wraps. He liked them all except for what he said was an overkill of cilantro stems. He also got orange chicken in which he stated was the 2nd worst orange chicken he's had. The chicken was okay, but the sauce wasn't orange enough, no orange peels...tasted more like general tso. Inside the restaurant was really fresh and new. It was inviting, decorated nice with short and tall tables as well as a bar area where ladies were making dumplings. Love this place! This is my second time going and I am very impressed with their dumplings. Today, my husband and I got the pork&shrimp shumai and chicken potstickers, along with some hot&sour soup. Flavors were great and each were cooked really well. The potstickers had an ice flower skirt (aka dumpling lace) and for some reason that really impressed me since I went to din tai fung and they didn't have that when I ate there. They have 2 locations in the DFW area but I've never been to the Plano one. I heard this location looks better and they also have a nice outdoor seating area for when the weathers nice! The new Chef Sun's is a very weird mix of a few authentic dishes and several very americanized dishes. The interior is quite nice and modern so the experience is great, but the menu doesn't properly separate out what will be americanized properly. The Salt and Pepper shrimp under the Chef's Recommendation for example, which normally means authentic, was very badly americanized. No shell, and heavily battered, and I would absolutely not recommend it. The dan dan noodles as well was made with what felt liked packaged ramen noodles, but its right next to their big plate chicken and braised beef noodles, which are incredibly authentic and satisfying. If you come here, stick to the braised beef noodles, biang biang noodle, or big plate noodles. The dumplings are all great as well, but the piggy custard buns are quite literally store bought frozen buns that come in packs of 10 for 5.99 from H-Mart but is sold here in a plate of 4 for 14$. The service is also a hit or miss. I came twice, and the first time it was over staffed, while the second was badly understaffed. They are probably still feeling it out, so I expect that to improve. It is a bit annoying that none of the servers spoke chinese, but I suppose that makes it more friendly for americans. Either way, I think I will personally stick to the original location, though I do think the braised beef noodles here is a bit better. read more

Good cumin and cilantro flavor. Fish boiled in hot sauce - got med spicy. Once again, it wasn't as spicy as it looks. Usually this dish gets me drinking water a lot, but not this one. Good flavor though! Shumai - very salty, though juicy. I'd pass on this one. For what you get, I think it's a little bit more on the expensive side.
