This is my favorite non pricey Chinese restaurant in this area. If I don't go to panda for Chinese food this is plan B. They hook it up and it tastes delicious. Definitely recommended. This place is horrible. I had multiple bad experiences here. The customer service is bad, there is a lady who yelled and treated her customers with disrespect. I saw her yell at a customer who had a question. She told her to leave because she was holding up the line. It's cold and unpleasant in the restaurant. The calamari smells bad. I stood for at least 15 minutes unattended, they charged me 1.50 $ for a 1$ Arizona drink. The location is very clean, Not too big but big enough to eat comfortably in. My parents know the owner of this place. They frequent this restaurant even when they used to be in this run down building off of Alum Rock and King Road. Every party we throw, they always order party trays from Chef P. Even my extended family orders food from them. Like what Ann Leslie says, the calamari is good. I highly recommend it. Other dishes that are great are the chicken and vegetables, beef with oyster sauce, walnut and shrimp, peking style ribs, combination crispy noodles, and combination fried rice. Portions are huge. I like the food here compared to most Chinese restaurants in the East Side. You can order your food ahead by calling the restaurant, which I highly recommend. This restaurant is better for ordering to go than to eat inside. The food may be good, but service can be shoddy. The lady that runs the place acts as cashier, waitress, and bus lady. Most of the employees are in the back cooking. Because of this, you can expect delays in getting served, especially when the place is semi packed. read more

I really wanted to like this place. It's close to my house and family-owned and smelt pretty good from the outside. My mom and I decided to try it. We start ourselves and picked up our own menus. We wanted to try a couple of dishes so we ordered walnut prawns, sesame crispy chicken, beef chow fun, and eggrolls. They brought out the wrong dishes. It took ten minutes to get water and my fork was dirty. When I asked them where our sesame chicken was I got the stink eye for what seemed to be our waitress. Very rude. Nothing whoa'd me. The chow fun was decent . The eggrolls were very greasy and soggy. The walnut prawns and sesame chicken were far too sweet and drenched in sauce. It was nasty. I wasn't impressed with the meal, since when is Chinese food drenched in sugary goo. The service was horrible. The only good thing about this place was that I could watch The Golden Girls, I looove that show. For that I gave the place an extra star. read more

I always see this place cuz I live about a minute away. After reading the reviews, I decided to go check it out. As I was driving to the restaurant, I kept thinking to myself, this lady cannot be as mean as everyone says.... damn was I wrong. She reminds me of a Chinese Shrek. She wasn't exactly rude to me, but she looks like a angry grizzly bear. Upon arriving I witnessed a crack head pacing in and out of the restaurant waiting for his order. Not surprising seeing as the place is located on Alum Rock. Anyways, on to the food. I got the combo #5 which is pork fried rice with broccoli beef and a chicken wing. The portion is really big. The to-go box was overflowing with fried rice. The combo plate could actually come out to a days' worth of food. The food itself is nothing spectacular, but for $6.95 I'd say it's a really good deal. I know it's made to order because it was steaming hot when I opened the box. I'm actually writing this review while I wait for it to cool down. We've been coming here for many years. It used to be so good, lots of food and they were accepting card payments (they even had an ATM machine). Just recently though, they don't give so much food anymore. We usually have a couple of days worth of leftovers. Also, they were more rude than the lady that used to be there. My husband was nicely commenting that most places now accept card payments and the guy rudely told him "Well, you can go somewhere else." That was the last time we went there. read more

Saw the recommendation on yelp and decided to check it out since I don't live too far from this place. What a bad decision that was! It's just a crappy run down take out joint where all the food is just greasy and tasteless! They've got noodles and other stuff. Was told that the calamari was famous, but it turned out to be this chewy oily mess with peppers and onions. Bleh! Yes, you do get a lot of food, but its not quality food so I suppose you get what you paid for. Growing up on this side of town, I have been hesitant to come back here after multiple issues in the past and one in particular in which they would not it replace my undercooked chicken. After a few years, I have come back here a few times in the last month. The new young guy in the front raved about how they are turning a new leaf and improving customer service. I ordered food from here for a company party after my coworker suggested the place. The place was pretty big, but looked pretty old and dingy. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because as the saying goes, "The dirtier, the tastier!" Anyway, I ordered almost a week in advance. I had to drive there to look at their ordering menu, which took up a bit of my time. I got mongolian beef, orange chicken, and beef broccoli. I came back a week later and my order wasn't done! The lady in front said they lost my order slip. Slightly peeved because I was in a time crunch, I said I'd come back in 20 minutes. I came back in about 30+ minutes and the order was still not done! Worse yet, they were prepping other people's food that was ordered right then and there before mine! Even though she was apologetic, the lady even had the chutzpah to say that the order copy/receipt I gave to her wasn't in her handwriting and it must've been her daughter's. I said that I spoke to her and she tried to look surprise. Really, lady?? This place is only getting 2 stars because I'm nice and it's edible, tasty Chinese food. read more

After reading several Yelp reviews, my boyfriend and I decided to give this place a try. Chef P's is a tiny little restaurant with ample parking. However, there are enough tables to eat at, along with a huge flat screen television on the wall. There was a tiny register up front near the window that allows people to look at the chefs cooking. The restaurant is a bit dirty, but after reading the reviews, I tried to not let it get to me too much. My boyfriend and I decided to order the sweet and sour pork combo and the lemon chicken combo. While waiting, my view nonchalantly went straight to the chefs. Suddenly, I saw one of the chefs WIPE THE SWEAT OFF HIS FOREHEAD and then PUT CHICKEN into his pot. EW! Right after, he started to PICK HIS EAR and then GRABBED A PLATE to put rice on. You would freak out too if you saw what I saw! And then to make matters even worse, I saw some little kid PUT HIS MOUTH ON A SODA CAN and PUT IT BACK INTO THE FRIDGE. After being grossed out watching these events, my boyfriend and I finally got our food and left. I was assuming the food was going to be okay, BUT I WAS WRONG! Their food was amazing! I tried my boyfriend's lemon chicken and IT WAS TO DIE FOR! The fried rice and chow mien were hellaaa good, but THE EGG ROLL was aiiiiiiiiiiight (I'm telling you, nothing compares to King Egg Roll! Let me start off by saying that because of this place, ive decided to get a yelp account just to warn people of the poor customer service here. i came in looking to just get a simple order of chow mein and basically any chicken side order that struck my eye. the lady who was behind the counter had a grumpy sour face on when i walked up to the counter. i say hello, and she literally grunts and yells "you ready". Already i didnt like the service but i decided to just go ahead and order, (you cant judge the food from the service). So i see a combo plate that sounds tasty and ask if i could substitute an item and she again yells, not speaks, "NO NO NO they no do that" so i just decide on 2 items: chow mein and walnut shrimp. the food took like 20mins to be made and when i finally got to eat it, the chow mein was super flavorless, i actually had to add soy sauce to flavor it. the walnut shrimp tasted like sugar. i say you are waaaay better off goin to an americanized fast food chain like Panda Express because not only will u get better food and service but u get your moneys worth. this whole experience was NOT worth the almost $20 i payed for those 2 items :( for a mom and pop style restaurant, these people need to learn better customer service. read more

I usually go to the Chef Ps n Milpitas. (Friendly service and cooked w the right spice your looking for/flavorable)My first visiting at the San Jose location. I ordered a #6 xtra spicy. The older lady at the register was not friendly. My foood had no flavor and was not spicy at All! Really disappointed. I had only 4 small pieces of the kung pao chicken in my combo plate. It seems like this place does mostly catering and I can see why. The place looks dirty and there is usually only one person working. The great thing about this place is the food is really good and portions are huge. A small party tray of fried rice and two dish could feed 10+ people!. They fill up the boxes so much that they usually wrapped the box with rubber bands to keep it closed (only Jackson location, Milpitas location gives much less food). Everything I tried is good except the orange chicken. It is too breaded and the sauce is tooo sweet. Salt and Peppered Fish Filet is my favorite. read more

Cash only. That should be a red flag. They didn't mention that when I placed the order over the phone. I didn't carry enough cash with me, but luckily, or unluckily, they forget to add a dish my order. So I told them to leave it out now, but I still had to go to the car to get fifty cents. I didn't want to use their ATM since I don't want to pay a fee. I am always suspicious when a business doesn't accept credit cards. Either they are too cheap to pay the fee, or they don't want to report their cash. But they lose out in extra income because I order less, don't give tip, and usually don't return. The food was not that tasty, so this place is not worth returning to. Too bad since their aren't any good "Chineses" food around here. I spell it like that because they have a neon sign that is misspelled liked that. Makes me laugh when I see it. read more
