Food stand at 365 Night Market in SJ
    Annabelle R.

Got the "street food bouquet" during the 365 Night Market at Grand Century Mall in SJ. Service was standard and sufficient, the wait not too long. The pork bbq sticks were small and mainly fat, but tasty (the parts I could eat), and the fish balls and lobster balls were delicious and perfectly cooked. 3 stars for overall value, since I didn't appreciate paying for fat (see my pics, it's not an exaggeration).

My favorite taco truck in West San Jose is hands down Tacos Santiaguito…read more I have been sending taco fiends here for about a decade now. Located right off of N Saratoga ave, between hwy280 and Stevens Creek blvd, on the east aide of the street. You will find this gem in the evenings. This place has all the meats that a down foo was raised on, but my go to is always the Al Pastor! Perfectly marinated, huge portions, and even with the pineapple and sautéed onions deliver an amazing plate experience. Now what puts these guys a league above! You get to put your own choice of up to 3 different salsa's. Green and flavorful, orange habanero heat, or spicy red pepper goodness. Ample extras of radish, jalapeño, or onions and habanero slices for the folks who just have guts of steel. This place has such a following, there have been times when I was 10 people deep waiting in line to order. They are quick, yet always tasty. Give your tastebuds a treat!

Really wanted to give this place a higher rating, but I just can't do it. There are simply better…read moretrucks out there with better tacos at a similar price point. (Roughly under $4 per taco, I had a slightly lower price at night) Tacos Santiaguito is conveniently located in a huge parking lot off Saratoga Ave and Stevens Creek Blvd. During the day around noon, there's a different truck parked here that I personally prefer. I first stopped by a few weeks ago and ordered the cabeza, lengua, and tripa. The lengua was tough, the cabeza was decent, and the tripa was bland. I went home ready to type up a review, but after reading that they're better known for their al pastor, asada, and campechanos, I decided to hold off and give them the benefit of the doubt with a second visit. Stopped by again tonight, and unfortunately, they're consistently average at best. The workers looked like they didn't really want to be there on either visit, they're pretty skimpy with a strict two-sauce-cup maximum, and none of the meats really stood out. Out of the six tacos I've tried here, the cabeza and al pastor were the best. However, the bar is pretty low. It's a textbook 3/5, wouldn't make a special trip out.

Attended the San Jose Mini Night Market on Saturday evening. Was lucky to find free street parking…read morea block away on Third Street (free after 6pm on Saturdays, and all day Sunday). Free admission, no line for entry, advance tickets unnecessary, no ticket check at all. This food festival is almost identical to 626 and Foodieland, but only one fifth the size. It had all the same elements, just "mini" versions... a mini stage with live music, a mini sized area with games and prizes, a minimal number of merchandise vendors, minimal seating options (mostly near the stage), and even less tables, so hopefuly you like eating on your lap or standing up, and even with about 20 food trucks/tents and drink stands, it felt like minimal food offerings as well. Good news is this meant the crowds, lines, and waits were mini too, or non-existent. I went around 6pm, and I think the longest line I saw was about 7-8 people, and for many there was no line at all. Here's the food lineup for this Saturday when I visited (though this could change on Sunday, or during future events in October): Flor de Pineapple PennyLane Sweets & Treats 3 Brothers Kitchen Chicken Bros Honey Cones ABVE The Basics Grenade beverages (more creative options than just giant baby bottles) Uncle Papa's BBQ Churro stand Heluo Kitchen Bun Me Up (bao buns) Supreme Musubi Katna's Kitchen (authentic filipino food) Spy Family (tea & lemonade) Pupuseria Nathalia California's Crepes Nana Bear's Mini Donuts Wise Jun-Kombucha Mezcla (Columbian eats) Potato Hut Kimoy (chamoy korean-mexican fusion candy) By 6:30pm, several trucks started to run out of popular items, but there were still plenty of options. I only tried the shrimp quesadilla from ABVE The Basics, and chocolate donuts from Nana Bear's Mini Donuts. Both items were delish! Slightly overpriced as you would expect at this type of event, but the quality, ingredients, and service were more than satisfactory. They even put the food in takeout containers as requested. Had fun being a fatty... and you can too! For 2023, the San Jose event takes place downtown this weekend and returns for two different weekends in October.

We were happy to see another Panana Night Market at Ontario Mills…read more We came early during the day and there was plenty of parking, no line to get in. Admission was free and I rsvp'd for tickets online, got an email and done. You could also scan a QR code at the entrance for free admission. It was not too full, so there were almost no lines for the food vendors. We were able to try a few different ones and also found a place to sit and eat. We did enjoy the selection of food vendors, just wished that the market overall had been a little bigger. Had a good time and would definitely go again next time.

Disclaimer: I only have experience with their Fanime booth. They usually have one Japanese-themed…read moresnack, usually takoyaki but this year they did beef hotdogs, with various kinds of toppings. In general, it tends to be something they can make beforehand, kept warm, and then add toppings and sauce on quickly. So compared to a lot of the concession stands, you'll get your food more quickly. Not necessarily right away, but still generally faster. At least there's more of a chance that your food will actually be somewhat warm. If there's a specific flavor you want to try, I would recommend getting it before Monday. By then, a few flavors are sold out and/or unavailable. They also have a number of bottled drinks that cost the same or even a bit more expensive than the ones you'll find at the snack booths. (The ones that aren't concession stands, but the Dealer's Hall booths that sell Japanese bottled drinks, chips, and snacks.) The main upside would be that Hirotako's drinks are cold. Hirotako is a third-party vendor/catering company that, most generally relevant, partners with anime conventions. For those in the South Bay, this means you've most likely seen them at Fanime, the Crunchyroll Expo, and the Silicon Valley Comic Con. Their focus is Japanese street food and, according to their site, they don't charge booking fees. Basically, you can add them along with whatever catering company you are hiring to bus out the majority of the food. Overall, always nice to see them at Fanime. They're always good for a snack to tide you over, though I wouldn't recommend it (or any of the concession stands) for when you're on a tight schedule. The hot dogs they were selling this year were nice and filling, but I hope they go back to takoyaki or even something more interesting next year. We kind of already have the stands outside the convention center selling Mexican snacks, aqua frescas, and rather amazing smelling hot dogs.

I love it! the octopus is there and the battered ball held up pretty well with the sauce and fixins. $8 for an order of six takoyaki balls is fairly good price. It is fairly balanced in flavor and I have no complaints other than I can't finish two orders of it! Yummy to the tummy!
