I am very surprised on the mixed reviews of Chef Geoff's. My wife and I ate their for the first time last night and I was very impressed with my entire dining experience. I have been wanting to try one of Geoff's restaurants for a while and we happened to be in the area yesterday evening so we stopped in for a late meal.
I'll start with the bad part of the meal...... Upon being seated, I noticed that my glass was dirty.... it looked like it had lip marks on it..... not actual colored lipstick, but marks where lipstick might have once been on the glass and had rubbed off. This stuff happens, and no, the glass never should have been set on the table, but it was a very easy fix. Our waitress was more than apologetic and corrected the problem immediately. I worked in a restaurant at one point in time and I know that just because there are still marks on glasses doesn't mean that they weren't run through the dishwasher.
Onto the highlights of the evening; First, I'll start with our waitress, Abigail. She was a young female who really impressed me with her service. Abigail was very, very personable and knew the menu extremely well...... and let me tell you, it is a LARGE menu. She was flawless in describing the specials of the evening and was extremely descriptive. It really made me want to try everything. She is passionate about her job and take her position at this restaurant very seriously. I love dining at a restaurant where the servers are so passionate about the menu and are fun to be around. It enhances the dining experience tenfold and really leaves a smile on my face when I leave the restaurant. I hope someone in management at Chef Geoff's is reading this, because Abigail deserves to be commended for her excellent service. I NEVER fill out response cards at a restaurant (I always write more detailed reviews on Yelp instead) but I felt I HAD to leave a positive remark on the feedback card for Abigail.
Now... onto the food. For those of you that follow my lengthy and narrative posts on Yelp :) you know that I can be extremely critical of food. Rarely do I give out the sacred 5th star, but the thought at least crossed my mind in this review. We started with a mozzarella and prosciutto pinwheel that was lightly breaded and pan fried served with marinara sauce and vinegar greens. Basically, it was a twist on a mozzarella stick. Very light, very tasty, and the combination of eating the greens and pinwheel together was a wonderful blend of flavors. It could have used for a little more marinara sauce, but I always could have asked for some extra and chose not to. Very tasty dish.
For our entrees, my wife ordered the Red Snapper wrapped in prosciutto. Snapper is a very delicate fish, and hers was a tad overcooked, but the accompanying flavors in the roasted vegetables and the golden beet biere blanc made up for it. The flavor combination was very good and was a well presented dish. I ordered the salmon special of the evening. Filet of salmon served atop of a seafood hash; diced potatoes, crabmeat, lobster meat, onions, and peppers. It was topped with a champagne peach drizzle which I was hesitant of, but Abigail assured me it worked well with the dish. The salmon was very good and the hash was an interesting combination of flavors that worked well together. I asked for the salmon to be cooked to a medium rare temperature and the chef hit it spot on. I was very pleased, as most restaurants tend to always overcook salmon.
The wine was a little pricey for my wife's 2 glasses, and I had 2 beers with my meal, but overall this was a great dining experience. I can see the argument that the prices may be a tad high, but we had a very enjoyable meal and I would go back to Chef Geoff's next time I am in the area. I would really like to try Lia's as well. read more
