I had lunch at Chef Geoff's (New Mexico Ave) last week and it was a delightful experience. To start, parking was very convenient and, to my surprise, our server, Sonja, validated the parking for us! Sonja was another delight of the afternoon. She was very welcoming and equally as knowledgeable about the menu. She recommeded the gazpacho, which was EXCELLENT, and the the Cadillac Caesar salad, which was also delicious! So good!! The funny thing is, it was Sonj'a birthday, yet she made sure *our* day was special and memorable. I hope she enjoyed her birthday as much as we loved our lunch! (If you are reading this, happy birthday, Sonja! Hope you had a great day/night and hope to see you again soon at Chef Geoff's.) If I lived closer, I'd be a regular. We went here for the first time last night. It was cute and simple inside...the outside seating was much more inviting, but too hot to sit outside. We waited at the hostess table for almost 5 minutes and had to go approach the bartender to get seated, so we didn't get off to a great start. Also took a while for us to get served, but the waiter was very friendly when he finally came. We ordered drinks and apps, but the server could not get my drink order right even after repeating three times. And then I did get the wrong cocktail... a mini Tini instead of a regular dirty GC martini like I asked for and pointed out on the menu. I got the crab hush puppies and my hubby got the brussel sprouts. The hush puppies were all filler with barely any crab meat but brussels sprouts were excellent. I got the miso salmon for dinner and it was just OK but my husband really enjoyed his crispy tofu dinner. We didn't see the waiter much until the end when he dropped off a dessert menu, but then a few minutes later came with the check since he said we didn't want dessert...which we never said?? we just called it a day and left without dessert. Came here with a friend about a month ago and totally forgot to post this review!! Parking was free when we went since it was a weekend. Our servers name was Jessie and she was absolutely amazing! Give her a raise!! The customer service from the hostess to server and even the kitchen staff in passing were super kind. I believe the manager also checked in on us at one point too. The ambiance was just *chefs kiss* (no pun intended lol) but I loved the dark blue tones, table light and elegance it offered. We sat in a corner booth and it felt really intimate and like we could see everything from where we were. We both ordered steak frites, with the apple croustade to go and two glasses of wine. Everything was absolutely amazing, 5/5 not a note to give. The entire experience was a 5/5 and I would definitely come back here again! Great lunch spot and seemed to be really busy during that time. There's a parking lot behind the restaurant so it's very accessible. Ordered the BLT with Parmesan Caesar fries. The food was really good, the bun was toasted just right and gotta love crispy bacon. They have a lot of good options on the menu so there's someone for everyone. A small circle of friends usually go to Chef Geoff's, New Mexico Avenue, on Friday evenings for dinner. We have found the food to be excellent, a great value for the money, and the staff has always been attentive to our needs. For the past several months, we have had the pleasure of having Jorge as our server, and he is excellent, prompt, remembers any special requirements that we have voiced in the past when ordering, and has made our visits especially enjoyable. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating which makes it a good choice year round. Adequate complimentary parking after 5 p.m. adjacent to the restaurant entrance is definitely a plus. read more

Just ate here and tried their menu for restaurant week. We had 730 pm reservations, and upon entering, the restaurant was full and the layout is pretty tight. There isn't enough space in between tables, so you are seated in very close proximity with other diners near you. That was the only part of the dining experience that was a bit annoying, but as the night went on, the restaurant cleared out so it was much more spacious. For starters, I had the gumbo and my boyfriend had the sweet and spicy cauliflower. I loved the gumbo! It had good chunks of chicken, sausage, and shrimp and was very flavorful. I also thought the portion size was very filling. And, the cauliflower was also very tasty. It almost reminded me of chicken. I liked the jalepeno and actually added them to my gumbo. For our entrees, my boyfriend and I both had salmon. I had the blackened salmon while my boyfriend had the simple and healthy salmon option with broccoli. Both plates were decently sized and we ended up taking to go boxes. My salmon was cooked well, and I loved the potatoes, bacon, and spinach. I definitely felt full after a few bites. Finally, I had a pear croustade for dessert and that was delightful. It reminded me of a pie, and it had vanilla ice cream on top. I loved that. My boyfriend got the lemon tart to go, so I'll have to report back later but it looked good. The service was good. Our waiter was attentive and observant. He knew when to come by to check in and refill our water or clear away plates. I would definitely come back and just opt to eat a bit later when the restaurant isn't as busy. read more

While the staff is friendly the service was not good. It took a long time for the meals to come and and even longer time for our server to come check in on us even though the restaurant was not busy. Hence I had already finished my bland $20 burger before I had the chance to ask for mayo. The burger was requested well done, came out medium well, kids pasta requested to have butter parmesan on the side, came drenched in butter with only the parmesan on the side. I dined for brunch and my experience was overall just OK. The food was poorly seasoned and overall just tasted really bad, which is honestly an issue for standard brunch fare. Service was a miss. While it was busy, it's never a good sign when you have to go in and hunt down your server to get your check. The one positive is patio. Seating was great. I thoroughly enjoyed our table and having a cocktail in the nice weather. I would definitely consider giving this place another try, I'm thinking maybe this was just a really off day. read more

I have had "ok" meals here before, but today's experience was truly 5* - largely because of our expert server, Ricardo! His knowledge of the menu offerings, ingredient details, and how different offering flavors could mesh/enhance was impressive. I literally believe that he would make a great chef with the care for customer and insights that he shared. Anyway, my skirt steak was cooked to perfection, the spicy cauliflower appetizer is just Yum, and my whole table was totally beyond pleased with the level of service and food quality received. I like Chef Geoff. There is an actual human being by that name. He is a local celebrity. He studied theology at Georgetown, and he is married to a news broadcaster. His restaurants are a chain, though that term should be understood to be positive. There is an outpost at the airport (it is acceptable), another restaurant of the same name downtown, and then Lia's not that far away from this venue. I have eaten at all these places multiple times. The truth is Lia's is where my wife and I go most often, due to proximity. But I want to put in a good word for this alternative. The best recommendation you can offer is that you yourself are a repeat customer. An organization with which I am affiliated has done an event every year since the pandemic here. People love it, and they come from all over the metropolitan area. The food is excellent given the quantities we are purchasing (typically it is an inverse correlation). We have fifty guests. Last night, the passed starters include a tomato, basil, mozarella salad on a stick and chicken parmesan on a stick. I had about three of each. We had flatbread and toasted pita with spreads; salad; two types of pasta; and three desserts. We also had beer and wine. Any of these dishes would have done well if brought to a table for my wife and me/ They were top-of-the-line for a catered function. The servers also were brisk and polite. Our guests were more than satisfied, many of them lingering still, when my wife and I excused ourselves. I would recommend Chef Geoff's for fine dining that won't bankrupt you. If we were meeting others in this neighborhood, this would be an excellent choice. As it is, we prefer Lia's, where we can walk and bring our dog. The menus are different, Lia's emphasizing Italian inspired American nouveau. But the overall quality of Chef Geoff's operations is impressive. He has done well for himself by doing well by his clients. read more

I came in here to grab some snacks with some friends. We got the cauliflower, some sweet potato fries and focaccia bread. We enjoyed all of them. I particularly enjoyed the sweet and hot cauliflower, which was really unique and good. The restaurant itself is quite decent size so it was easy to hear my friends talking. The restroom is a bit far away, outside of the restaurant but it's pretty clean. I suggest this place for any quick snacks! read more

I always enjoy taking friends to Chef Geoff's on New Mexico Ave., and a recent Sunday was no exception. The luncheon fare was tasty (we had their BLT, kale salad, and steak and eggs), the price was satisfactory, and our friendly and attentive server Bryn did a very nice job. Sadly, I have to say that Chef Geoff's has gone down a little. I used to always recommend Chef Geoff's and bring my family here--so naturally I did just that! I took my grandparents, parents, and boyfriend to Chef Geoff's for a nice birthday dinner. We had raved about the food, wine, etc. However, we were extremely disappointed with the food as a whole. Unfortunately I don't have the pictures of the things that were wrong throughout the night, but I do have a picture of the season spice crusted scallops which were the only good thing we had on the menu... Let's get into the issues here (and yes I realize I did hype this restaurant up recently, but I'm sad to say my review has gone down the dump). To start off, my grandma is vegetarian. The main reason we chose Chef Geoff's was because there were a few good options such as the tofu bowl and veggie burger and cauliflower appetizer. However, when my grandma got the burger, it was clearly not cooked through. It was cold and must've been frozen before cooked because according to her, there were ice particles in the center. I took a bite and yes it was wet, cold, and tasted subpar. As for the watermelon salad, we thought it would be arugula with watermelon chunks. No, it was... watermelon. That's it. A large block of watermelon. My grandfather's salad was soggy and had clearly been sitting out before coming to the table because the lettuce was damp and withered. As I said, the scallop dish was amazing and I always love the chicken Milanese. Although, I did state I didn't want goat cheese on the risotto but obviously it was on the risotto. I didn't send it back mainly because the server was extremely busy and seemed to be running around all over the place. I just picked it off, but I wish I didn't have to. As for service, it was okay, not great, but again, he was super busy and management did take off the burger so I really did appreciate that. I understand restaurants may have some off nights, but it was upsetting that it was on a birthday night and when I had my family visiting. I probably won't go back for awhile, but I hope they can expand the menu and also get back to where it used to be. read more

Stopped in for lunch with my daughter with a very short time frame and everyone we encountered at Chef Geoff's today was incredibly hospitable. We were seated, orders taken, and served so quickly that we were able to finish well before we had to rush out again. Our table was checked in on at different points by the hostess and manager, and our server, the bartender Denis N., was really helpful and courteous.
