Now to the food I started off with the famous fried green tomatoes as an appetizer then I ordered a fresh squeezed pineapple juice that was just delicious after that the amazing shrimp and grits that's so delightful and the creole sauce is blended to perfection. Here's a little food hack for ya, add pieces of your fried green tomatoes into your shrimp and grits I promise you won't regret it!! for dessert you absolutely have to try the strawberry butter pecan cheesecake!! This was my second visit to Tupelo Honey after about a year or two. When asked about a good brunch spot in the DMV, Tupelo Honey is mentioned from time to time so I was very curious about it. PARKING: Tupelo Honey has several parking garages nearby. -- Tupelo Honey can be a very busy place so reservations are a must depending on the day. The layout has a very nice homey and country vibe that seems pretty that seems very comforting. The service definitely matched the vibe because both times we had a very friendly and engaging server. I love a good chicken and waffles so I was eager to try them out. I got to try the regular classic, peach ,and sample the Mac and cheese waffle. They were decent and I enjoyed what I had but it didn't move me to chorus. The fried green tomatoes were delicious. The biscuits for a cause were incredible. Hands down my favorite. Warm, fluffy, and paired perfectly with the jam and butter. The roasted half bird dish was a item on the special menu. They had a special on mimosas and had a few different dishes that weren't on the regular menu. The chicken was juicy and seasoned well. The green beans were nice and savory. Though the Mac and cheese left a bit to be desired. They complemented the dish but the green beans were definitely the standout. I stopped by this place on Juneteenth and I really wanted to love it but was terribly disappointed. The restaurant was virtually empty on the inside around 5:15 in the evening. There is plenty of seating for all party sizes. We were quickly seated and the waitress almost took so long to come we almost left. We ended up ordering the French toast along with the classic chicken and waffles. Our food arrived and of course no syrup came. By the time the syrup arrived the waffle was now like warm and my 3 toddler sized/ seasonless, bland chicken strips were finished. The waffle was ok. The two slices of French toast were ok. I really wanted to love this place, but unfortunately it's a one-and-done for me. The food and service both left a lot to be desired. We were the only customers there, yet the service was extremely slow, and our waitress rarely checked on us. No southern hospitality. The fried okra wasn't good, and I'm honestly confused by whatever award or recognition the menu mentions for the biscuits because they didn't live up to the hype. Since this is advertised as a Southern kitchen, I expected actual fried chicken with the waffles, not chicken tenders. Even then, the chicken was so poorly seasoned that I could have done without it altogether. The burger was just okay. We were in the DC area near Rosslyn and it was lunch time so we thought we'd try this place out. The restaurant is pretty nice looking inside and out with some patio seating. We were promptly greeted even though we arrived at noon. Plenty of seating was open. Server took our drink order as soon as we were seated. Now that we've covered the positives... I came with my family, as we usually go out to eat on Sundays after church. I ordered the shrimp and grits, my sister had the dark‑meat chicken with fries, that unfortunately had to be switched when they brought her the wrong white meat, chicken and fries. My granddaughter got sausage and grits. There are no pictures of the food because I don't recommend you come here if you're looking for real southern food. I personally won't be back and won't waste storage space on disappointment. The shrimp and grits....the portion was so small, I thought they accidentally brought me the sample plate. It should honestly be listed under "Kids Menu". The menu says it comes with chorizo pork sausage, but instead of sliced pieces like normal restaurants, it was crumbled so tiny I thought it was seasoning dust. When I asked about it, they told me it's "put in very small so you don't know it's there." Well... congratulations. Mission accomplished. You get six shrimp, and they claim the dish is "spicy". Please, the spice level was somewhere between tap water and air. Then there was the chicken dish. I tasted it, and my sister will give you the full breakdown in her own review. The skin had a nice honey flavor, I'll give them that. But once you get past the skin, the chicken was out here playing hide‑and‑seek with the seasoning. Completely bland. The fries were fine, not great, not terrible, just fries. Now, the bathroom: I was unimpressed. When you walk in, there were paper towels on the floor and toilet paper in places it shouldn't be. The handicap stall does have a baby‑changing table and some extra paper towel and tissue supplies, which is helpful. However, the toilet seat covers in the handicap stall need to be replaced, even though the other stall had some available. Overall, the restroom did not feel well‑maintained. The restaurant was looks amazing, we ate a late lunch so there was no line. Just a little wait for a hostess. Now for the food, keep in mind I may be a little critical of southern food. I don't at okra, but the table loved the fried okra. I also didn't like the biscuits, they were too dry and hard for my taste (again the others enjoyed them). The Cesar salad was AMAZING! I know that is hard to believe. But not all salads have the right servings of dressing and anchovies. But this salad was soooo good. I did not like the Mac n cheese. I didn't feel there was any southern soul in it at all and the chicken was "okay", nothing to recommend. I also didn't like that the only options were breast and wing or drum and thigh (I only eat wings and thighs). Finally got around to trying this place for brunch. I would say they do have a great atmosphere and that was probably one of the better sweet teas I have had since most of the time they are overly sweet but this one had a nice balance. They had a cute outdoor seating space, however it was cold and rainy so we couldn't sit there. We had the fried green tomatoes, snd both got the salmon with two sides of your choice. Tucked away in the charming Courthouse area, Tupelo Honey is a chain serving up Southern-inspired classics with a modern twist. Its exterior features a modern brick façade, bold signage, and an inviting outdoor patio shaded by planters and umbrellas. Inside, there's a spacious with warm wood flooring, metal accents, and pops of blue and copper exuding a modern take on southern charm. There's backlit honey jars and local artwork, including paintings and rustic murals by Asheville and Arlington artists. At around 7pm on a Saturday, the restaurant was about half-full, and the atmosphere was buzzy but not overwhelming (just note that it closes at 9pm on weekends, which is quite early). Without a reservation, our party of four was immediately seated, and our server was more than happy to walk us through the menu, which ranges from scratch-made starters, salads, and sides to sandwiches to Southern-classic entrees! Everything here also seems fairly affordably priced (think $15-25 for an entree), especially for the area. We began with an order of their Fried Pickles ($9.95), which are briny pickles with a crispy outer coating, served with a rich and tangy buttermilk ranch. Fried pickles are hard to get right because the interior can often become oddly oil-soaked. While I think the pickles lost a lot of their flavor, the crispy exterior was lovely, and the buttermilk ranch was delicious. Three members of our party ordered their Buttermilk Fried Chicken Tenders ($15.95), which come with hand-breaded fried tenders sprinkled with 'bee dust', with honey dijonnaise, smoky chipotle bbq, and spicy 'bama firecracker dipping sauces, and the choice of one side - they have plenty of sides to choose from as well! All three that ordered the dish liked the crispy tenders with a great ratio of meat to crackly crust of breading, and the "bee dust" added an interesting textural contrast. The trio of sauces was also great to sample different flavor combinations with the chicken, which looked to be well-fried. For my entree, I opted for their Cast Iron Pork ($19.95), which comes with "slow-cooked pork shoulder in duck fat, sriracha honey glaze, pickled red onion, cilantro, and your choice of two sides." The pork shoulder was succulent and tender, coming out sizzling in a cast iron skillet, and the sriracha honey glaze, onions, and cilantro added a wonderful kick to pair with the rihness of the meat and duck fat. Additionally, my two sides were tasty and well-portioned - their Stone-Ground Goat Cheese Grits have the perfect thick texture and toothsome bite from the corn (though I think they could have more goat cheese), and the Braised Bacon Collards had a wonderful, deep smoky flavor with hunks of tender bacon. In summary, we really enjoyed our meal at Tupelo Honey - while it's a chain, it really doesn't feel like it: expect scratch-made Southern comfort food with an inventive edge that doesn't break the bank. Service is friendly, the food is comforting and rich (while not overly so), and the location is charming. I took my friends to this place for a last minute Saturday brunch and I love the location of Tupelo Honey. We got the fried okra to share which was amazing. The sauce that came with the okra was very flavorful. As my main dish, I ordered the avocado melt. I was pretty disappointed with the sandwich. It was tasteless and the cheese wasn't melted enough to be considered a "melt" in my opinion. I also think the choice of cheese didn't taste good with the lack of taste from the avocado but the extreme spice from the red onion. The food was pretty good, just finished a 19-day fast and didn't want my BOGO coupon to expire, and the fried chicken hit the spot (had a little unexpected spiciness but it was good)! I asked for extra Creole sauce on the side and was brought a side bowl with sauce, sausage and other bits and pieces mixed in it. All the bits and pieces were not easily identifiable. I do not recommend this restaurant. The service was genuinely disappointing. They changed their chicken and waffles from two chicken thighs to one chicken breast, which was already upsetting, but things got worse. While eating my waffle, I bit into something that felt like paper. When I pulled it out of my mouth, it was a plastic-like piece about half the size of my pointer finger. I didn't get a photo of it because it all happened so fast, and they took it away immediately, my first thought was just to let them know, not to take a picture. The manager came over and said he could remake the dish and would take it off the bill. When the bill came, I was still charged for both. The server told me they only removed the remade one, which made no sense. I had to call her back, and she returned to the manager before they finally corrected it. I also constantly had to ask other staff members to find my server anytime I needed anything because she was never around. Overall, I was extremely disappointed. Haven't been to this place since it opened. Not terrible, but not great. I didn't go too crazy with my food selection, but I still wasn't very impressed with it, especially since it was all so basic. We were a large table of 9, but it felt very difficult to get our server and she didn't come by often. It was also really really loud. We had book club here and we're not a rowdy bunch and I felt like we had to scream at each other to talk. My over easy eggs were slightly undercooked, and there was still a bit of egg white that was translucent, huge huge pet peeve. The chorizo sausage didn't have much flavor and weren't very salty, kind of dry and crumbly? not what I expected at all. The biscuit was moist but not flaky... It was kind of spongy--and not much butter flavor; I thought my friend special ordered her butter and jam -- turns out they just didn't bring me one. I was skeptical about goat cheese grits, but honestly there wasn't much goat cheese flavor -- the grits themselves were on the very creamy mushy side, I like mine with a bit more texture. The dirty chai latte was good, but a bit watery -- I did appreciate that it wasn't that sweet, but I think there just wasn't much in there. The glass itself was sooo sticky I found myself trying to get water to wipe down my hands but getting them sticky again. Overall, I wasn't super impressed coming back a decade later. Sweet Tea Chicken Sandwich was honestly such an interesting food experience I think I loved it but still not sure because it also comes with a lemon sauce to make it a truly different experience. I went to brunch with my girls and we had the best time! Our server was super sweet and checked on us often. We sat there for what seemed like hours, just chit chatting away. We started with the "Famous Fried Green Tomatoes" on cheesy grits, and omg, it was so good! The tomatoes were crispy, and the grits were creamy and delicious. We also got the "Biscuits for a Cause" (proceeds go to Tupelo Honey Relief & Development Funds that aid Tupelo employees in need); with blueberry jam and whipped butter. I'm not a huge fan of blueberries, but my friends loved it, and the biscuit was soft and fresh. Entree: 3/5: I had the mac-n-cheese waffles with Nashville hot fried chicken. It was okay, but I wasn't a fan of the mac and cheese inside the waffle, and the syrup wasn't my favorite either. The chicken was fried super well though, and was cripsy crunchy! I was invited by my son to accompany him and an old college friend who came to town for dinner, and he picked this restaurant because it was in proximity to his house. I have to say that I was so surprised by the atmosphere of this place. Once we walked inside, I felt such a spirit of peace. Not like a dead peace if you know what I'm speaking of. But a welcoming type of peace and serenity. Nevertheless, we had a nice waiter who made some excellent suggestions. We all decided on different things so we could taste each other's dishes since none of us had been here before. So, I ordered the Crispy Brussels for the table to start with. Let me add that there were so many other "Beginning" dishes I wanted to try next time. The entrees we got were as follows: For the Love of Cobb with Pan-Seared Salmon, Chicken Poblano Soup, Sweet and Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich, and Smothered Chicken. Everything was delicious and beautifully plated and presented. My son and his friend ordered to share a selection of different draft beers, which, that said, all the ones they tried were good. 9.27.2024- On a rainy Friday morning, I drove about an hour to meet coworkers/friends at Tupelo Honey for brunch. This has been bookmarked for quite awhile so I was eager to give it a try. There was limited metered street parking & a bunch of reserved spaces across the street. I decided to park in the nearby parking garage. We arrived shortly after the restaurant opened. I was happy Tupelo was bright and cheerful on such a dreary day. There were no delays getting seated (1130 rezzie) and service was good. I saw a lot of items on the menu that I wanted to try. For starters, we ordered the biscuits for a cause and crispy Brussels. The mains included 2 different kinds of chicken and waffles and chicken tenders & fries for my grown friend who eats like a 7-year old boy. We spent a couple hours catching up in a relaxed atmosphere. Nice visit. I'll definitely return. read more

From the friendly greeting at the door by the man behind the bar as I rushed in and out, to the lovely outdoor seating; Tupelo has a lot to draw you in. But the food is the mainstay, the waffles were perfectly cooked with an almost cake like quality. Pairing with chicken that dripped with spice and flavor. We were in town from NYC for a family weekend in Arlington/DC and Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen and Bar was our big Sunday brunch stop. Absolutely the right choice! Thanks, Amex concierge! We came hungry, and everything we ordered hit the spot. Highlights included the crispy fried green tomatoes with buttery grits (the table favorite) and the mac-n-cheese waffle with hot fried chicken (so unique). Drinks were on point too. Loved the iced dirty chai, it was the perfect drink for the warm summer day. Also the Watermelon Smile Margarita was refreshing and fun, and the Whiskey Wayfarer Old Fashioned flight kept the bourbon lovers happy. The only small miss was the fried chicken, which had a skin that was a bit too hard. But with everything else being so tasty, it didn't dampen the experience at all and everything will "bee" alright! Our server was very attentive, the manager was incredibly generous, and the whole vibe made us feel right at home. We also picked up pint glasses as a souvenir, which made the visit even more memorable. All in all, we left full, happy, and already planning our return.
