Decent food, good atmosphere. I come here all the time for a decent cheesecake and good atmosphere for hanging out with friends. The cheesecake is creamy, soft, and quite rich tasting, but it's nothing spectacular. If you've never been here before, it's important to know that there are only two flavours of cheesecake: original and chocolate. However, you can add different kinds of toppings like strawberry coulis or chocolate drizzle. I usually order the chocolate cheesecake, unlike the original cheesecake it has a richer taste and is good even without toppings. The drinks are also decent and nothing too special. Overall, Cheesecake Etc is satisfactory, reasonably priced, with good vibes. What I recommend: Chocolate cheesecake with no additional topping, Original Cheesecake with Strawberry. read more

Cool place, and love that they are open late! Cheese cake was alright (mine tastes better lol) but we had a great time. Coffee is good too. The ambience is calm and the music awesome, it almost feels like you are in Europe. I would recommend this place for sure. read more

I haven't been here in years in fact I really didn't think that they were still around! Anyways, my friend had the chocolate cheesecake with strawberries and I had the cheesecake trifle. I hadn't been here since probably university, which was many many years ago, but I'm sure the portions were larger and the cheesecake lighter and flufflier. I think it tasted better then too? Maybe because I had little extra money I appreciated it more? Anyways, the menu hasn't changed too much, except its now laminated and not just a piece of paper. The trifle was thick and goopy and really filling...it was ok if you like heavy pudding with a cheesy flavor and a splash of strawberries on the bottom, otherwise bleh, won't be having that again! The cheesecake was just ok, nothing special, I think my homemade version is much better! Great place if you're a student and want a little treat with some friends. read more

I have some level of expectation when the name of the place is fronted by the word "Cheesecake" but basically has only two cheesecakes - cheesecake and chocolate cheesecake which are then offered with or without strawberries. Yes, they are freshly baked. No, there isn't much of a selection. They crank out basic light and fluffy cheesecakes and pour their toppings on it rather than in it. Which is fine if I was making it myself. It's the same as calling a place "Bread Etc" and then simply cranking out white bread or wheat bread rather than offering a wide selection with baked-in ingredients typically offered in, say a Focaccia or a Ciabatta. My point is...where are the Cookies and Cream, Lemon, Dulce De Leche, Coffee, Mocha, White Chocolate, Green Tea, Stilton or even Blueberry cheesecakes? And I'm not talking about making one kind of cheesecake masked with toppings. I'm talking about incorporating the flavours. If this was called "Food Etc" and they happen to bake their own cheesecake with toppings, I'll give them props. Another star for having a good selection of Et Ceteras to complement the two basic cheesecakes. I'd honestly just head to Trees Organic which by the way offers a good selection of cheesecakes. read more

The classic cheesecake with strawberry sauce is my favourite. But I have complaints about the consistency of the service. This is a romantic and dim place for a dessert date after dinner, but don't expect too much. Hot water is $1 extra, be warned!!! An apparent money grab. Also, I ordered apple cider on two separate occasions and the amount the staff gave on one occasion was WAY LESS than before. Maybe they didn't have enough, but I was surprised. The cup was a little more than half full. I've tried again and again to love this place, but the only thing I like is the late hours. Oh and they used to be cash only a long time ago, but now accept only cash and debit card. There are definitely better local dessert places than this over-hyped hole in the wall. read more

I'd like to say I've been seated and waiting for about 30 minutes now and no one has even come to see us. I can't comment in the taste of food as I've yet to taste anything. Edit: The cheesecake is pretty good. I had the peanut butter creame. Blueberry lemonade is also pretty good. Not sure if it was worth the 35 minute wait (when I had to ask the front about why no one was serving us) but tasted pretty good. read more

This place is called "Cheesecake etc" but they only have two flavors of cheesecake; Chocolate and Plain Original. You can ONLY choose from two toppings as well; strawberries or chocolate sauce. The cheesecake itself was light fluffy, not too sweet, and without crust. The cheesecake was very fresh but nothing too special. The portion was OK. We ordered one original with strawberries sauce and one chocolate with strawberries sauce. Personally, I like the plain one more. The chocolate cheesecake was not that good with the strawberries sauce. The atmosphere was OK...dark and dim. They had teh live jazz band there but not too romantic at all. I guess people were talking so LOUD there. The service was pretty slow. read more

When we headed up to Vancouver, B.C. for the Vancouver half-marathon the weekend of May 1, we planned part of our trip around where to eat. My husband had heard good things about Cheesecake Etc, so we went up after 7pm on Saturday, April 30. We were one of the first ones there that evening. There was no live jazz or anything. We sat near a window due to the low lighting. Service was a little slow to come take our orders considering our only decision was original or chocolate cheesecake and no topping, strawberries, or chocolate. We all decided on our choices quickly. The four of us had: Original with Strawberries, Original with Chocolate, Chocolate with Chocolate, and Chocolate with Strawberries. All of them were delicious! The chocolate with chocolate was super rich and no one could finish that one. The cheesecake is very creamy and not like a standard cheesecake. It is something special. I recommend a trip there with your significant other or family as long as it is not past the kids bedtime. read more

Whenever I am in this area late at night I always think to come here! Had the special of the night, the Tiramisu cheesecake, and it was amazing. Served in a tall glass, it was creamy, tasty and perfect. My boyfriend had the strawberry on chocolate cheesecake and we shared the hazelnut latte. All for $17, not bad! For a weeknight it was pretty busy but the service was excellent. Hardly waited at all for anything. Obviously dont expect fast seating or service if youre going on the weekend. This place seats quite a lot for a dessert place. Highly recommend it! read more

This dark little cheesecake place is easily missed due to it's tiny nature as well as it's location at the base of the Granville bridge. Their cheesecake is made fresh on premise and is pretty much the draw here and only thing I've had. It's definitely a place to put on the after dinner list for dessert. My favourite is getting it with the fresh berries and a nice hot cup of earl grey & honey. On occasion they also squeeze in a live performer into the already cramped space, but that makes it super cozy and enjoyable. At least for me. read more

My review is based on takeout only! My friend mentioned the cheesecake here is light and fluffy - I'm not normally a cheesecake fan, but since he recommended it, I made him take me so we could grab the famed strawberry cheesecake to go. The actual restaurant is roomier on the inside than I expected, and really dark. It seems like a good place to bring a date, or if you really want to stay hidden in the dark haha. For takeout they were pretty quick and friendly enough. Now the actual cheesecake - it was SO GOOD. It was as light and fluffy as I expected, probably more on the cake side than normal dense cheesecake. I guess they just have two flavors (original or chocolate), but a variety of toppings to go with it. The strawberry topping with whipped cream wasn't too out of the ordinary, but it went well with the cheesecake. Did I think this was the best cheesecake ever? No - but they do their cheesecakes well and that's good enough for me to say I'd come back. read more

This place seems to always be packed/busy and I know why. They have great cheap cheesecakes. They're soft, light and just enough sweetness. You can add some sauces such as strawberry, blueberry, peanut butter cream, etc. The drinks are good and compliment the cheesecakes. This is a cheesecake place so don't expect the drinks to be the best. There is 3 areas to this place. The far left is dimly lit with a piano. Cozy and warm. Last time I went, someone was playing the piano. The entrance area is a bit brighter than the left and is cooler. Then there's the right area which is bright and more like a cafe. If you feel like having a simple cheesecake, this is the place to go. If you want variety, then I would recommend some place else. read more

This place is charming, the last time I was here (ten or so years ago) it was smaller, but it's still dark and cute with little candles and the owners playing the piano and singing :) Great late night date spot. I agree with the other reviewers, i scooped off all the over done heaping pile of whip cream. This is a crustless cheesecake (disappointing to me as the crust is my fave!) and it is very much like a creamy mousse, not dominantly cheese flavoured or dense. Overall, cute spot but yes there is much better cheesecake to be had! I'd still be back for the late night music and ambience with a nice tea latte :) read more

The atmosphere at this restaurant is really nice. It's dark, has good music, and the lighting is pretty soft. The cheesecake I ordered was surprisingly REALLY soft. It was like eating fluff, but it still tasted really good. I got the strawberry cheesecake. It's a little bit on the pricey side in regards to the quality, and about 3/4s of the way through my cheesecake I started to feel sick from all the sugar. But maybe that's just me. The cheesecake was good, but not mouth watering. Also, the customer service at this place is TERRIBLE. There was only one person in the entire restaurant that had a smile while talking to my table. The person that greeted us looked like she wanted to be anywhere but here, and she threw the menus on the table right by the front door, when there were plenty of tables not by the front door. No smiles, no pleasantries, nothing. Overall good food, bad service. read more

I've been here 4 times prior to this visit and have had nothing but quick service and good cheesecake. Today I came in and took a huge bite of my cheesecake after I had eaten almost half of it, until I felt something weird only to have pulled a hair out of my mouth. I went over to the server and he was fast to reciprocate, and offered me a new cheesecake, but I had to decline. I have attached a photo although it is a bit off putting. read more

I didn't like that they couldn't take my debit card because it's international.. I'm a cheesecake fan, I had it with blueberries. They were soft, light and delicious. I also like my tea latte - it was a good pair. But I don't understand is the service, it was so slow just to get a slice of cheesecake. I've been here probably a handful of times and tbh I've only gone here because there really is nowhere else. The dessert scene here kinda sucks. I wish there were more places that opened late. Most cake shops are attached to cafés so they close at around 5/6 :( SADDD. I am obsessed with their tiramisu cheesecake special here but they rarely have it and it's pretty upsetting. I don't really like fruits on my cheesecake so I normally get a plain one with whip or whip and a cream (tried Matcha cream this past visit). The cheesecake here doesn't suck by any means but it's not WOW. Awesome place to hang out with friends and hang out. This is my go to place for a small or big late night group meet. I've never had troubles finding parking around the area but it is pretty annoying to always have to pay. read more

Cheesecake, etc. opens late which is rare for Vancouver. We find ourselves coming back here because of the crust-less cheesecake (which we prefer). There's usually a table available late night here when barely anything else is open. It's dirty and dingy and although the cheesecake is cheap-ish, it's also not flavourful at all. I taste zero cheese. There's no crust on it. It seems previously frozen and not fresh tasting. The sauce is fine. The tea is a lipton tea bag and tepid water in a small cup. The cheesecake is more like a mousse, very light and fluffy and sweet. It tastes fine but not great. The only reason to recommend this place is if you need a place after a movie or theatre to hang with friends casual like. read more

My absolute go-to every time I visit Vancouver. I've been having cheesecakes here ever since I visited Vancouver as a kid and the fond memories of delicious, creamy indulgence in a dimly lit room with jazz music have always stuck by me. And so I find myself coming back to this place every. Single. Time. I kind of wish I made a reservation beforehand because we were seated in the extended portion of the cafe, off to one side, right outside the bathrooms. It wasn't the most pleasant place to sit, but I'd rather have cheesecake than no cheesecake. They offer a few types of cheesecakes, such as chocolate, or 'Tonight's Gourmet Cheesecake' (their version of the daily special), but I prefer going with the good old original cheesecake. Add some strawberries, and it never fails to disappoint. My dad and I craved this so bad we had three in a row, in one sitting. You can't blame me - I visit Van only once a year. Totally wish I could have this more. read more

This is my sister's favorite dessert place in the city. Scratch that, it's her favourite place to have cheesecake period. And so every visit when I'm down, we earmark a few hours away to enjoy a slice and a cup of tea here. Normally reserved and circumspect about food, she becomes something of a Nora Ephron heroine upon stepping into this cozy cheesecake emporium. Calm, assured and witty, she holds court: "One slice of the original PLEASE! With a double order of the strawberries. Don't forget the whipped cream! THANKS!" I follow suit with a similar order of the original, only with one order of strawberries because two orders is much too much for me. One time, we coaxed our parents into coming here. My mother unused to the dim lighting, hushed conversation and jazz stylings in the background was clearly out of her element. As much as she tried to enjoy her slice she was thrown off by inadequacies around her. "They only give you one napkin! No refills on the water! Servers don't smile!" Finally, she cackled: "You could buy a Sara Lee round at Costco and sell for better markup. Same thing!" Meanwhile my Dad gamely polished off his plain slice in the corner. Unfortunately, I don't share my sister's enthusiasm for this cheesecake. It's good, perfectly adequate but I stop short of superlatives. Many have described their cheesecake as fluffy, light, not too sweet and I don't disagree with these descriptions. The cheesecake features a silky, featherweight lightness such that your fork meets almost no resistance with each bite. It's also not sickeningly sweet, a major plus for the throngs of young asians that converge upon this cafe nightly. Yeah, it's too subtle. I like my cheesecake with more oomph, a little more creamy, rich tang. This cheesecake is lacking in heft and should my sister ever return my visits stateside I aim to show her a proper cheesecake. Ahem, New York. My last visit was bittersweet. We sat there glumly, short bursts of conversation peppering our bites. Again this cheesecake is not very sweet but it was just sweet enough to briefly lift away the melancholy backdrop. And for that, I look forward to return visits, perhaps with double orders of strawberries. read more

They have a nice ambiance. The place is dimly lit with lots of portraits of jazz musicians. Its relaxing to have a cup of tea and share a piece of cheesecake. The cheesecake itself isn't something to write mom home about. It's on the lighter side, fluffy with a heap of whipped cream on top. The good news is the whipped cream isn't all that sweet or strong....good touch. The prices are reasonable. The service is below average and quite the unfriendly bunch. I'm glad it didn't affect me all that much. This is a fun place to come and have a little dessert after a night out downtown, or just to relax and take in your day. read more

I've been coming here for years, way back before the double expansions and when the restaurant resembled a long and narrow hallway. There's a reason why they expanded twice and there's still a line to get a table sometimes. The cheesecake is really good, the best I've had in Vancouver. It's different, soft, creamy, and light, I'm guessing unbaked even. It's a great place to hang out with friends and chat over some coffee and cheesecake. The place is decorated to resemble a dimly lit jazz bar as the owners traveled the world as jazz artists before opening up this place. The owners are very old but can still be found playing the piano some nights. Definitely one of the best dessert joints in Vancouver! read more

Based on a friend's recommendation, we went here for dessert last night. I find this odd, but they have two locations, side by side. They serve the same stuff, just one has dark lighting, the other has bright lighting. We chose the bright. I'm sure the dark is more appropriate for a romantic occasion. Upon entering, it has a cool vibe with the big piano and antique tables. I ordered the plain cheesecake with strawberry topping and fresh whip cream. To be honest there was nothing special about it. The strawberry and sauce tasted like it came from a can. Actually come to think of it the quality and taste is identical that you can find on BC Ferries. With its lack of variety and just OK taste, I don't think I'll be returning. read more

This is one of those little hidden gems that I worry about posting here for fear that too many people might find out about it. Ah, well. Consider it a gift, everyone. The owners are a married couple who spent years travelling around the best jazz joints in the world. They took everything they loved about that experience and combined it with their secret family cheesecake recipe to create Cheesecake Etc. You can really feel (and taste) the heart and soul they have poured into the place. Cheesecake Etc. is a perfect date spot. It is dimly lit with candles at every table. The ambiance is complemented by the soft jazz music that ubiquitously plays in the background. I'm not exactly what you call "the romantic type" but even I melt in this kind of place. And then there is the cheesecake. Bear in mind that I've never been hugely into cheesecake. Generally, I find it too rich. But this cheesecake is different. It is light and fluffy and delectably topped by a variety of sauces and garnishes, from which patrons can choose. My BF, who is a cheesecake freak, says it's the best cheesecake he's ever had. We usually split whatever happens to be their feature of the day and have never been disappointed. A word of advice: Whatever you order, be sure to eat it slowly. Savour the tastes and textures of your cheesecake. Enjoy the music. Feed a couple of bites to your date (if you're on one). Have an intimate conversation in the cozy atmosphere. Let the experience linger. This is the way to truly appreciate and enjoy what Cheesecake Etc. has to offer. read more

An interesting restaurant that opens at night (7pm 1-am?). Cheesecake Etc seems like an alternative nightlife place for Asians in the area, because when we went in, there were basically all asians. [cheesecake] We didn't eat in, so I can't really comment on the service. But the cheescake is lighter than your traditional cheesecake, but not quite to the point of a Japanese cheesecake. It is creamy, fluffy, and less sugary. Seems like there are parts cake, and parts traditional cheesecake. Since I have more of an Asian palette disposition, I really like this cheescake because I don't like my desserts heavy. [mousse cake] This is a cake in three layers, a white cake, mouuse, then white cake. The white cake was dry, and the mouuse was ok, a little bit dense for mouuse imo. I really wouldn't recommend this. Overall the cheesecake is pretty amazing if you like it on the lighter side. read more

This place has changed a lot since I came here in 2009. The place has been renovated to increase in size, and there was a GRAND PIANO in the middle of the cafe. The cafe has now become dimmer when I first came into the establishment in 2009. The place still plays jazz music, which I adore a lot. The changes were for the better of the cafe and it made it more awesome, for sure! Lets talk about the food. The usual cheese cake is served here, but the only thing I like about this specific cheese cake is that the inner cheese cake is nice and soft. The fluffiness of the cheese cake makes my mouth water a lot. I seem to like that style because it has the special creaminess in it. There could be some people who don't like it, of course. My friend ordered this weird Trifle, and it really looks like poop. I will only deduct marks for their cup full of poop. I believe if they have seen all the reviews now on Yelp, they should take it off their menu. The cup really wasn't that special at all. I think they should just change it to something else. The other mark I will deduct upon is the service. The waitress was VERY snappy and very very rude when we were about to pay. I had no idea when you wanted money you had to be rude to the customers.... Just wow, I never had such a... Wow.. I was just speechless... Having credit card would be a better service as well, rarely a lot of people use debit because of fraud, and cash is just not safe. Using a credit card is better. I love the atmosphere as it is very romantic, and I will come back here often with my BF, and have a good romantic date. Only if the jazz nights were more common, and I will be returning, just not for the poop. read more

My friends were super excited to come here after a comedy show. It was my first time here and I expected great things, however, I was not impressed in the slightest. If you call your shop Cheesecake Etc, I would expect more than two types of cheesecake: original or chocolate. The only way they mix it up is by the different fruit toppings. The slices are a decent size, but they are drenched in syrupy fruit toppings and garnished with an unappealing blob of whipped cream. I found the cheesecake to be too fluffy for my liking. I only ordered a hot chocolate because I knew I would just be eating off my friends' plates. Basic hot chocolate, nothing fancy. My friend had hot water with lemon and honey: they unceremoniously plop the whole bottle of honey on your table. The bill was brought to us 5 minutes after we received our cheesecake, but we were told it's not to rush us out, it's because "they like to give the bills quickly." The "4 person booth" was certainly a tight squeeze. Cash or debit only. I will not be returning. read more

***AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE*** We sat down with 5 girls and waited about 25 mins before we even got any service at all. One of my friends called our server and asked a simple question. "Can we please get some water for the table?" Instead of saying yes, she responded with "You can get anything if you just ask" and walked off. Why would you even be a server if you have that kind of attitude to your paying customers? All we did is ask for some water. And on top of that, when we asked the male server for her name, he told us they are not allowed to give out names here. Are you serious? You mouth off your customers with this type of attitude and expect people to come back? I really hope the owner sees this review because this type of service is absolutely unacceptable. I would not recommend this joint to my worst enemies. Unless you want to be treated like garbage. read more
