I think this place is hyped up. I went here because I heard good things about it. First of all, no seating in this place so you can't enjoy it while it's hot. Second, the buns are way too overpriced (~ $6.5) for the taste. I tried the original, the mango with passion fruit, and their holiday special (forgot the name but it's purple and has yam). My favourite was the original - very creamy and cheesy-like and paired well with the white bun but definitely not worth the price. The mango was okay...it had fruit pieces in the filling itself. The biggest disappointment was the special - the filling was literally yam and not the cheesy texture or taste it boasted to be read more

I got the mango bun. Not really sure how I feel about this! Maybe it is because I ate it a couple hours later (heated up), but the bun was tougher than I expected Perhaps it probably is softer just out of the oven? Maybe next time I will try it right after buying it instead. read more

The buns here are definitely pricey. A single original cheese bun will cost $6.20+tax, which makes it a bit of a splurge if you're looking for dessert or just a snack. However, it is absolutely worth it, and I would highly recommend everyone to try this at least once. The bread is super soft and spongy, giving the perfect amount of resistance. A single bun is also rather hefty and satisfying. The cream cheese filling? PURE CRACK. The sweetness and creaminess is perfectly balanced out by the tartness. There is so much of it that you have to take care not to bite down too hard, lest the filling spill somewhere unrecoverable. Yes, I got it all over my fingers, and yes, I did lick them clean. My only regret is not getting the chocolate flavor too. Hopefully, this place will be around for a long time, and I will be fortunate enough to try every flavor. read more

Came here right when it opened at 11AM on a Saturday. They did not seem to be really ready yet as I had to wait around 20mins for my order of 5 cream puffs and 1 cheese bun. Wasn't really an issue; I think the biggest upset is that they did not have matcha or chocolate cheese buns available that day which I find strange considering they only have around 10 unique menu items. I had to change my order around a bit and had to ask if each flavour was in stock, followed by the cashier headingto the back and asking the bakers. Shouldn't they know in the first place? Lack of communication on the front end. The taste of the cream puffs were pretty good and worth it at its price. However, she accidentally gave me another lychee puff instead of a regular puff, which was another hiccup in my experience. Good thing they were tasty haha. Overall, it was an alright experience, I would like to try their matcha puff and other cheese bun flavours next time. Nay for service and communication and waittime though. read more

Walk past this place quite frequently ever since it opened a couple of years back. I walked past the sign outside that advertised a new Durian flavoured bun and decided to try Guschbauer for the first time. Upon opening the package, I prepared to take my first bite as the aroma of Durian filled the air. The durian filling was light and not overly sweet. The cheese filling mixed with the Durian gave it an interesting sweet and salty balance. The texture of the bun itself was pretty unique. Very moist and had a springy soft texture with every bite. For the price though, I think I'll pass on being a returning or regular customer but definitely worth a try. read more

3.5 stars! Was around the area and decided to drop in for a few buns. Had the chance to try them before when a coworker brought them as a treat for me which was nice! There was a special durian flavor yesterday and my parents love durian so i got one of that! Man did it stink when i opened the bag - there was a caution sign on the bag to warn people which was nice. Got the original & the chocolate one. My family killed the buns after dinner as dessert! Highly recommend eating them the day or at latest the next day for freshness! The buns are good! Might be a tad sweet for some but i love it the way it is. The bun texture can be softer & probably tastes best when its right out of the oven - so if you have time maybe pop it in the oven for a few minutes. Overall good product but very pricey for one piece of bread at approx 7 dollars. Small store with no seating. You are paying premium for its location, quality and its yumminess . read more

I got the durian cheese bun, mango cheese bun, original cheese bun, lychee puff and original puff. The buns here are pretty good!! They're super filling (not as airy, so more like bread) and there's actually quite a bit of the cheese cream. The original just tasted kind of like cheesecake. The durian one had more durian flavour than I expected and smelt pretty strongly. Same with the mango although there were only supposed to be mango chunks, the cream itself had a strong mango taste to it that you could taste on first bite! The puffs I didn't have a chance to eat for a couple days so they were soft.. but they had a nice crust like a pineapple bun and the puff part was super thin! The lychee cream was also smooth and aromatic. Would definitely come back! read more

Went today and the cashier was busy playing game on his phone! We asked what flavours do they have left and he just pointed on the shelf without explaining the flavour then went back to play his game! Seriously? If u wanna play game, just stay at home playing game than coming to work! The place is also overpriced: $7 for a cheese bun... And they dont accept alipay even though its written "accept alipay"??? read more

I finally made it here after seeing it all over social media a while back and I love anything cheese + bread. I got the mango cheese bread and wanted the lychee puff but they sold out on that. Unlike other reviewers have mentioned about real fruit pieces inside, I didn't find any in mine. Sad. Regardless it was still creamy and fresh and messy to eat lol. It's a tad expensive for what it is even tho the portion is kinda big...I'd be back in the future to try their strawberry and sweet potato and lychee puff! read more

This place is a real treat! I love the selection of buns here and how unique it is to Toronto. Its on the pricey size for a bun and they should run promotions more often as it always really quiet. Keep in mind there's no sitting room there. read more

I'm kind of conflicted about this place. When I first ate it, I wasn't really impressed at all, and vowed not to come back. A few days later I started to crave the buns, and I caved into the temptation, sort of like how I act with Popeyes. Anyway you definitely need some kind of acquired taste for these buns! They're really soft, and at times a bit sour yet sweet? I've tried a few flavours (signature, mango, strawberry) and I prefer the fruit cheese buns more. The chocolate, sweet potato and mango-passionfruit sell out super fast, so you should come by earlier if you'd like to eat it. I quite like their little puffs- basically they have the ooey-gooey filling of a cheese bun within this cream puff looking dessert. I really like the packaging of their buns, and the service is always really nice even when there's a long line-up. As well, they do a lot of promotional discounts so keep a lookout for them on Instagram! I've never tried their drinks, but they look and sound yummy, so I'm hoping to get one someday! Tip: cut the cheese bun in half. It's super overwhelming if you eat a whole wedge all at once. Also, definitely purchase them earlier in the day, because it's a bit stale if you purchase them at night. read more

Today I went in and was it SHIT service. The guy was on his phone. When I asked what flavor was left, he answered very rudely and said, you decide, I'm gonna go back to my phone. Seriously? Seriously? Some shitty service. Will not be visiting again. read more

Was walking along Yonge and dropped by. Got a durian bun and lychee puff. The bun was nice and airy, with strong durian taste which was impressive. The lychee puff was pretty good too, though not as different. Main negative is the price. Not sure if I'll be back but was fine giving it a try. read more

So I went yesterday during their soft opening since they were doing 20% off. Yet when I order the sweet potato flavour, they said the discount doesn't apply. Err, where on your sign does it say that? Plus, it's only a little over a dollar discount, please. So during their soft opening, their prices for the original, mango and strawberry were selling for $6.49 + tax with 20% off, now they are selling for $5.19 + tax. COMPLETE SCAM. For everyone that though they were getting a discount, YOU DIDN'T. This is HORRIBLE business ethics. Also, the girl said they were giving away 150 VIP cards that is good for 20% off for a year the following day (today) for their grand opening. So I go today, and they said you have to make a purchase. WHERE DOES IT SAY THAT ON THE SIGN AT THE WINDOW? And why was there no mention of this yesterday when you said you were "GIVING AWAY" these "VIP" cards. Oh, and THEN they don't let you use the card for additional purchases, saying it's not valid until TOMORROW. Again, WHERE does it say on ANY of your signs? Their soft opening was a SCAM, and grand opening was a complete FAIL. read more

Got the mango cheese bun here. It was huge and filled with cream cheese and mango bits. The bun was more bread texture than cake. Would come back go try other flavors. Taking one star off because the price was a bit stiff. 7 bucks after tax. read more

I'm a huge fan of anything cream cheese, so when I first heard about this cute little grab and go bakery's cream cheese breads, I was super excited and knew I had to pay them a visit. I'm used to eating tiny cream puffs, so when I first saw their version of cream puffs, wow! It's pretty big!! I absolutely loved their lychee cream puff. The outside was flaky and the cream cheese was not too sweet, to my surprise, I was greeted by pieces of real lychee fruit on my first bite. This cream puff overall was just so oh my gawwwwwwwwd. For their breads, I really really loved the mango passion fruit flavour (highly recommended flavour!!!). It tasted pretty much like a mango passion fruit cheesecake, but in bread form and it's a huge portion! It comes in quarter cuts and one slice of the bread could be a meal XD. I'm super excited to try more of the bread flavours on my next visit!! Also, their bread and cream puffs are a bit costly, but for the size and flavors you get I would say it's worth it! read more

I loveee this place. Every time I pass by I have to pick up a bun and some puffs! Food (4.5/5): I see a lot of people complain about them advertising 5 layers and it's only 2 but who the hell cares. The bread is soft and light and the cream cheese filling is light, semi-sweet, and gets all over your face (in a good kind of way). The fact that its oozing out means they've stuffed it silly and in every bite you get it. The size of the loaf itself should a good dessert for 2-3 people, I wouldn't really recommend it all for 1 person haha. If you want even MORE cream and less bread, go for the puffs. My favorite by far is the chocolate. It's rich without being dense. However the lychee puff gets a nod for it's like putting a lychee in your mouth and it just had a difference texture lol. Cost (3.5/5): Alright so the bun is a bit pricey at $5-$7, but who am I kidding. You've got a store front at Yonge/Wellesley and a product that's light and fluffy, with tons of light cream cheese in the center. I think it's unique and I'm not going to waste my time baking something like this, when I can barely bake a good loaf of bread myself. For me, the premium is worth it. I get a great tasting bun to share with a friend or 2 and I don't have to waste time mixing dough, proving it, then creating the light cream cheese, then stuffing it, then waiting for the bake, having it cool, and whatever goes into making this. Service (3.5/5): They wrap up a bun and cash you. It's quick and easy. Ambience (4/5): I like entering bakeries and seeing that it's clean inside puts me at ease. It's got a modern feel and their display of buns is adorable being in glass cake displays. I just wish that this place had some sitting area because it feels like a cafe but it's purely take out. Will forever be fan and I'm so happy that I live close by :) read more

We tried the original and mango cheese bun and they taste the same except that the mango has chunks. Their bread is just usual but their cheese filling is what makes them unique. Unlike the usual cheesecakes, it has a tangy flavour which gives you refreshing taste. They have nice packaging too and the store smells good and clean. I think this is a perfect stop for people who loves cheese read more

This was kinda gross, I couldn't finish it cause when eating it I felt like I was eating bread with a huge chunk of fat. The bread is full of carbs and you add some melty cream cheese spread in it, I think that's all the calories I'm allowed for the day. I don't mind consuming fat if it tastes good, but this didn't speak out to me and I didn't feel like finish it, will not try it again. read more

It's good for breakfast. Good try for once as it tastes pretty special. But I wont come again. The bread is too big for one person to eat. The taste is pretty heavy. Too much cream cheese for me. Its not too sweet, which I like. And it tastes like bread at the same time. Hmmm I would say that its interesting. However, I would wanna try their puff and different flavor of bread. read more

Was disappointed at the messiness of the food, lack of seating, and napkins -- especially for food with so much cream and powder. Also, I found it overprivlced for the value you get in terms of portion and taste. The cream was tasty, and not too heavy. But I personally did not enjoy the texture of the bread with the cream; it was not as fluffy and soft as expected. read more

Its interesting would be the best way of describing this cheese bread fusion. Unfortunately, for me it was not interesting enough to come back. It tastes just like an asian style bread with asian style cream cheese (think sour cream with icing sugar) in the middle. $6.50 (after a 20% soft opening discount...) for a slice was just too high of a price point for me to want to come back. read more

I agree with most of the reviews. I walked by Guschlbauer because the bread looked enticing and wanted to try one. I ordered the passionfruit mango bun. It was delicious don't get me wrong but I cannot justify how expensive it was. After taxes I paid almost $8+ for 1/4 of a bun. It's not worth the price!!! Because of this I won't go back because I have had better for that price point. read more

I went here due to so many pictures on social media. When I went there, it was empty and my loaf was pre-packed. It was very fresh and soft. The cream cheese is like cheesecake filing taste. I ordered the sweet potato one so it seemed more expensive. I paid $7.50. It was good but I don't think it is worth the price. I feel like I can buy a loaf, cut two slits and add cream cheese. Then coat the edges with some powder. Like I feel like it is price pointed like fancy cakes but fancy cakes seem to involve more. Even fancy ice cream seems like it is worth it. I wouldn't really recommend this unless you really want to have bread with cheesecake filing. read more

Honestly if you love bread and love cream cheese you'll love this! It's a cute little store, not much space I don't think there's sitting as I saw but I was kinda distracted by the cheese bread. I got the original flavour, it's pretty big if you're not hungry / don't eat a lot like me so my friend and I split it. 5.90 + tax so it's kinda pricy for the amount but worth a try for a delicacy store! read more

Chinese adaptation of an Austrian/German pastry but unfortunately not that special. Tried the "limited edition" purple sweet potato charcoal one and it tasted like a puffy bland dust ball with copious amounts of strawberry cream cheese in between and on the sides. One of them is like a meal. This shop had a dinesafe ding last year but cleaned up after that, I think. I really don't get the hype. read more

If you love cheese and bread, I would assume this place would interest you. How can you resist cheese-stuffed buns! This is an interesting addition to Toronto as this bakery is from Austria. We do not have anything similar so it was nice that it opened here. Food: Signature Cheese Bun - I got the original cheese bun during my first visit since I thought getting the signature would be a safe choice. I enjoyed the cheese bun as it was creamy and flavorful. Strawberry Cheese Bun - The strawberry bun was nice. I personally love anything with strawberries so I really liked this one. It does have more flavor than the signature cheese bun. Matcha Cream Puff - I absolutely loved this! This had a nice crispy pastry on the outside with enough filling on the inside. The matcha flavor wasn't very bold but it was enough for you to taste the matcha. Overall: I think it is worth trying the cheese buns but it is not something I would get often. I do wish they offered seating so it gives customers the option of eating it immediately. read more

Interesting shop selling cheese cream bread. It is a bit on the pricier side. I tried the durian flavoured one. The cheese flavour wasn't too overpowering, and I could definitely taste the durian. Cheese Baker - The original - Bakeries Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

I tried their Purple Sweet Potato Charcoal Infused cheese bun ($6.50 + tax). While I'm not partial to sweet potato flavoured desserts, I still found this very tasty. It had a good bread to cheese ratio, the bread is light and the cheese filling carried most of the flavour. The purple sweet potato one in particular wasn't overly sweet or overly potato-y, which may disappoint purple sweet potato fans. It also had a black crust (I assume that was the charcoal) which was disappointing because it was dry and didn't add any flavour (like you'd get from the crust of your average pineapple bun for example). Personally I wouldn't order this particular bun again just because the flavour wasn't my thing and it was on the pricier side of their selection, so I would only recommend if you're into purple sweet potatoes or a sucker for "limited time" offers like I am. Ordered: Purple Sweet Potato Charcoal Infused bun Price: $6.50 + tax Final thought: The price range makes these a bit decadent for what they are but their flavour combinations make them interesting enough to give them a try. read more

Been coming here for years for the puffs. Recently tried the Portuguese tart - which is out of this world. The puff pastry is perfect and the filling was just the right amount of sweetness balanced with egg. The Portuguese tart for $2.25 is definitely my new fave and I will be back. read more

I tried two flavours the sweet potato cheese bum and the mango cheese bun. I really liked the mango cheese bun, it was very creamy and sweet filled with mango fruit pieces. The bun itself was light and airy and the cheese filling was generous. I did not like the sweet potato one as the bun was hard and grainy (total opposite of the mango cheese bun). The filling was more savory and tastes like cream cheese from a red velvet cake/cupcake. I will not be ordering this flavour again. The price is a bit high ($6.50) for the size. I personally think it should be $5. read more
