Bottom line - Food was alright for the price. Nothing special. Both are bottle only. -Interior/atmosphere was pretty decent. No yard sale junk littering the walls or anything. New paint, tile, seats, tables, a fish tank, etc. -Pricing seems to be slightly less than other comparable restaurants. -Parking lot appears to be large enough, with appropriate sized spaces. Cons: -The rest of the beer offered is your standard BMC swill. -The dining area was unusually COLD. I wanted to put my jacket on and eat. -Service was a bit in disarray. Our waiter tried but not everyone was on the same page. -Entrees were brought out without the sides. (Was halfway through meal before sides started to sporadically roll in. -Had to ask for sauces a bunch of times. -Ribs were a cheaper fatty cut with not much meat. But they were cooked well and the sauce was ok. -Chicken Tenders were dry and hard. Disappointing, especially when there's a section of the menu boasting about how great they are. -Loaded Baked Potato was NOT fully loaded. Cheddar's version of loaded apparently means butter, cheese, and sour cream. To the rest of America, the term "loaded" also includes BACON bits and chives. Oh well, live and learn. -The buttered corn was drowning in a bowl of butter. Meh, I will probably be back ..eventually. My salmon was good but the way they sprinkle rice in the container was awful fill it up next time

I'd like some food with my salt, please. Dude. I don't want to leave a restaurant feeling ill, lightheaded, and dehydrated because there was so much salt in my meal, especially when I drank two teas and a water to try and balance things out (but maybe that's the secret marketing ploy. Dun dun dunnn!). And the problem wasn't exclusive to my meal (potato soup, pot roast, veggies, and mashed potatoes); my friend was amazed at the sodium content of her fish and veggies as well. The guys didn't seem as disgusted or physically impacted by it, but they eat fast food and from chains way more than we do. You're probably thinking, "It's a chain; whadidya expect?" but an earlier experience here (I got the portabella/veggie sandwich then) left me with the feeling that it wasn't THAT bad, at least when you compare it to the rest of the members of the chain gang. Still, I wouldn't have elected to go back, except that it was New Year's Day, we were starving coming back from the cabin, and nothing else was open. My husband & granddaughter stopped for dinner here last night. We have been to this restaurant on several occasions and everything has always been very good. Last night our experience was horrible. Our waitress was very non attentive , when our food arrived totally cold! We were so disappointed and now will be hesitant to visit again. After the three hour Gettysburg battlefield tour, which included climbing to the top of Big Round Top and all the observation towers, and a lot of in the car and out for about six hours total, we were beat and on our way to the hotel in York. We hadn't pre picked a dining spot. We wanted to sit down but play it safe, like a Chili's. We passed by and from the outside it looked really nice, and the lot was packed...always a good sign. I'll say my wife and kid liked their chicken pot pies. I tasted it, it was good. My Chicken Fried Steak totally sucked. Worse I ever got, and I order it a lot. Greasy, crust twice the size of the small portion of tough meat inside and fell apart when cutting. You couldn't cut a piece that had meat and breading unless you made a project out of it. Think it was the first chix fri-steak I didn't finish. Green beans were decent. It is really nice on the inside. Extremely relaxing. I would go back. Just not order anything fried. I gave it 3 stars because it was there when we needed it and the rest of the crew went away happy. My kid loved the bacon cheddar fries as an app. Sometimes the kids being happy is worth the trip. read more

Went with wife and two kids on a Saturday night. Didn't mind the wait ( 1 hr @5pm), after all it was Saturday. Liked the decor of the restaurant. Onion rings were ok, although not hot or even warm. Tortilla soup seemed ok, as my son ate it with no complaints. Wife and I ordered beer and it really seemed to take forever to get them, although the bar was only 20 feet away. Interestingly there did seem to be an abundance of employees congregating around the bar area, so maybe bartender was slow, or maybe that's where they chose to hang out and socialize, because there seemed to be a lot of that going on. Waitress asked me if I wanted a second beer, I said sure, I'd like it when my meal comes out. Well sad to say I never saw that beer, or any other form of beverage. So I had NOTHING to drink with my meal (no water, etc). I just kept waiting for what I ordered. Waitress never bothered to ask my wife for another drink, so she also had nothing to drink with her entree either. The meals- I ordered a cheeseburger. Very uneventful. Can't think of anything about it that would make my want another one. Reminded me of just a larger version of a McDonalds burger. Mustard was already heavily lathered on/ into the bun when served. I do not like mustard on my burgers. Mustard should be in container at table, allowing those who like it to apply it as desired. Wife ordered pecan chicken salad. She received some type of oriental chicken and shrimp salad. When it arrived she told waitress this was not what she ordered. Waitress took salad back to kitchen, then brought it right back to our table as a new salad. Waitress claimed this is the pecan chicken salad. Really?? No pecans, and it had shrimp and oriental noodles?? Funny though after another 10 minutes someone from the staff brings out an actual pecan chicken salad. Waitress never acknowledged the goof, never apologized, nothing. Also I think it's critical when starting a new restaurant for management to have a feel for what's going on. At no time during our meal did we see a manager asking fellow patrons how their experience is going. My prediction is once the newness wears off, this place will not be popular. I bet by summer you will be able to walk in at 5:30 on a Saturday night and get seated immediately. In two years, they may not even be in York any longer. Product just not good enough to survive in hyper competitive casual dining business. read more

Went to Cheddar's on a Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. We met my husband's parents there who had just been seated, though they said the wait was about 3 minutes. Our server was good. The draft selection was a disappointment (3 options), but the mixed drinks looked huge! One is even cut off at 2 per person. One in our party ordered a diet with lime and was accommodated, which often is not the case. We ordered and shared the queso and chips appetizer. Those who partook thought it was good. The rest of the meals ordered included the fish tacos, Sheppard's pie, braised pull-apart roast beef, and world class chicken. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The fish tacos were some of the best I've ever had. The Sheppard's pie and braised pull-apart roast beef were very large portions. My husband had the world class chicken and said it was good enough to order again. What I find impressive is the fish tacos come with a choice of side dish. I saw edamame on the menu under appetizers, but we did not order it. I asked if it would be possible to have that as my side rather than the regular options. The waitress wasn't sure, so I ordered broccoli just in case. When my meal came, I had a nice side of edamame. I was impressed. It wasn't on the side list, but they gave it to me anyway. I will say I had to add my own salt, but other than that, it was tasty. I thought the menu had some really good options, not the same ole same ole you see in the area. The pricing is definitely a plus, as the fish tacos were only $6.99. As we left, both my husband and I said with pricing like that and the menu we will be back because it's not the same chain food you see throughout the area. I will say though, the place is noisy. I'm not sure why, but the restaurant is just loud. Sometimes you say that because there's a large group near you or a table with a bunch of kids. None of that. It was just a really loud place. I'm assuming the acoustics weren't done correctly. I would say that is the worst thing I can think of to say, but for people who have hearing issues, it is something to consider. read more

Gotta give them a 5 star rating based on my experience last night. In town on business and they are located near my hotel. Walked over sat at a bar table and got exceptional service from my server and the bartender. I asked for a special margarita and the bartender came out just to confirm. She made a fantastic margarita! Fresh mix not too sweet! I had bourbon glazed salmon which was also very very good. Definitely recommend this Cheddars. My overall impression of this restaurant is they're projecting an upscale image with weird ceiling fans, stonework walls, and dark wood decor, so it's a surprise that menu prices are actually lower than other chain restaurants like Ruby Tuesday. So the food, at least, is a decent value and I was actually not disappointed with the taste either. Where everything fell apart for me was the service. It was very slow and the server seemed to disappear for long periods of time. When he did show up, he was polite, although his manner was very, very strange to me. Actually, they (the host, the food runner) all had strange affectations, so perhaps I'm just not used to Central Pennsylvania. read more

Dropped by late Sunday evening with my boyfriend. We had never eaten at a Cheddar's before and decided to give it a try. We had a 20 minute wait which is par for the course at a sit down restaurant. The decor is lovely. Really enjoyed the ambiance. We are seated near the bar, which was quite noisy, but I expected it to be loud considering how many people were there. Our server was very friendly and attentive. My boyfriend ordered a burger and I got a lunch portion of blackened salmon. That is a plus: can get smaller portions any time of day. It was a small fish but at 7.99 and a lunch size it was fair, and definitely tasty. The croissants were a hit, we both enjoyed sides of corn. He had a mild complaint about a bit of onion in his burger that shouldn't have been there, but said it was better than most sit down restaurant burgers. We don't have a Cheddars close to home so whenever I see one when we are on a roadtrip I make it a point to stop. After a long day at the Apple Festival I was really looking forward to having dinner at Cheddars but when we arrived the place was packed (homecoming weekend for local PA schools apparently). Hubby knew how disappointed I was so he suggested we at least call to see how long the wait was and as luck would have it, the wait was only about 20 minutes. We went ahead and put our names on the list with the very helpful hostess but ended up finding a couple of stools at the bar and boy am I glad things worked out like that. Nate, one of 2 bartenders working that evening, was very nice and attentive, awesome service from start to finish, far better than we usually receive with table service. I had the rib/grilled shrimp combo with rice and green beans while hubby went with the New Orleans Pasta and both were delicious and hubby's portion was so large that he had half left over for lunch the next day. Even though the place was packed the bar area wasn't noisy at all and the service we received was exemplary, we will definitely be back (hopefully on a day that Nate is working). read more

Love this place! First visited when I still lived out of state and was very impressed. Now that I live here again, I go about twice a month. Service is always great, and food is delicious! And you can't beat the prices either, very good value for what you pay. My favorites are the key west chicken and shrimp, and the salmon with bourbon sauce. Both are very good! And the chips with queso (and free beef if wanted) are a requirement every time I go. I would definitely recommend Cheddar's if you're thinking about a great meal at a great price. read more

We have eaten at a few different Cheddars across the states. Think the Cheddars in York offers the same reasonably priced and tasty food. The difference between this estrablishment and the others we have eaten at is the attitude of the receptionist and wait staff. Stopped in Saturday night at 8:30. Plenty of room in the parking lot, saw loads of empty tables through the windows, so I figured our crew would grab a bite. Went in and saw two people waiting inside, asked for a table for 5. We were told the wait was two hours by a hostess who could obviously care less whether or not we ate there and just wanted to get rid of us. Wouldn't give any explanation for the wait or the empty tables. I could see if they were packed, but you would think they would treat people better if they were doing so bad on a Saturday night. read more

So, I read a lot of bad reviews about their service when Cheddar's first opened so I waited. I have been there three times so far and have been happy each time. Food and service are great. Salads are fresh and have a good variety of veggies, steak was cooked correctly and was tender and lean, salmon with addictive bourbon sauce was prepared perfectly. Buttery sweet croissants are sooo good. Wait staff is friendly, courteous, helpful. I haven't experienced a problem with them being out of food. The prices are lower than similar chain restaurants. I wish there was more of a variety of restaurants in York and I admit I wasn't thrilled to see another chain move in but Cheddar's is good. read more

Cheddars, Casual Cafe We visited this restaurant on a busy Tuesday night just before what I would consider dinner time. We had 7 people in the party, and were seated almost immediately. Design and decor, was very nice! As I made my way to the table, I was greeted by another server. I sat down and began browsing the menu and prices. The prices didn't look all that bad. A few notes on our experience. Somel items on the menu were not available. (bacon bits on our cheese fries) This would not have been as bad, had we known that before our order was brought to the table. Also one of the entrees was forgotten about. We had to constantly remind our server of things that we needed, including the coffee I ordered toward the end of the meal. It is clear that they still need to work out some service issues. The food quality I though was pretty good. I especially enjoyed the cookie dessert at the end, which apparently they bake just before preparing. I would highly reccomend this dessert. Atmosphere was good. A bit loud, but was to be expected. It was asked on our card, if the manager visited our table, and I saw the manager periodically coming around the corner, but he never did make it to our table. QUALITY-GOOD SERVICE-POOR ATMOSPHERE-GOOD I will return to this location, considering they are fairly new, but definately need to give them some time. read more

When driving through York on our way home from points South, we generally stop at Cheddar's. It is surprisingly good. My husband is a meat eater and enjoys their steaks and ribs. They are tasty and moderately priced. As a pescatarian, I can always find something good to eat. My only complaint is their "sides" list is very limited and there aren't enough actual vegetarian sides (I ordered rice and red beans, but sent it back because it was loaded with meat.) The green beans, again, bacon so it is difficult to get a veggie plate that is actually vegetarian. The place is large and the staff is professional and friendly. Worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant before. Servers eating food (potato chips out of bag) at a table in bar area. They were still on clock and still serving tables in the bar area. There were a group of four just standing there eating, not washing their hands and then walking three feet to their tables. They were too busy chatting to take care of their tables. I thought this was a bad day so we attempted a month later. This time we walked in and the host team were too busy on their phones laughing to even acknowledge us. I had to say excuse me to them to even get their attention. They then walked us to three different dirty tables, while walking by kitchen we could see the manager throwing food at a server! Then we go over to the table and the host goes: " wait this is a closed section" he then just walked away and told us to wait. At this point we were walking out extremely disturbed. This place is amazing and the portions are so big we go a lot and have had many different people wait on us. Never have we been disappointed and the one time we had a small problem they took care of it and it was even better the managers are so friendly. The only thing I would suggest is picking up w making people wait when tables are empty other then that amazing food read more

So we've been waiting to come here and well we finally did this will probably be the only time .. There food always looks so good on commercials .. And while it wasnt bad it also was not great .. I ordered country fried steak with mashed potatoes and fries also got a side of broccoli cheddar soup , my wife 8oz steak with buttered corn off the cob and broccoli cheddar casserole .. My steak was good while the fries where not .. They were very greasy and some over cooked .. My wifes steak over cooked .. The " corn off the cob " was canned corn sitting in its juice with no seasoning or even butter . The soup was basically just cheese soup ive had better at subway honestly .. We also ordered dessert to go choclate Raspberry cake .. Got home to find the cake and choclate sauce didnt even have the cherry then we split it only to also find it was just a damn chocolate cake they didn't even put the raspberry preserve in it total waste of money ... The service was not good at all we only asked for water and it took like 5 mins plus to even get that .. 1 refill after we pushed our glasses to the very edge of the table and waited still .. Cheddar's is a good place to go with your family if you are on a budget, I was surprised at how inexpensive both the dishes and drinks were. The food however, is mediocre. I ordered chicken with rice and broccoli and you could taste that the vegetables were frozen. The rest of the food was bland. Service seemed a bit slow too as we had to retrieve a waitress five minutes after being seated when we were told they were going to bring us a high chair. Another 15 minutes later our drink order was then taken. The atmosphere is actually really nice, and you would expect better food by looking at the place. Very open and inviting, there was a huge tropical fish tank by the bar and beautiful bamboo ceiling fans. Again, good place to go if you're looking to not spend a lot but with the quality of their food I would just stick to eating at home instead. read more

Went with family of four on a Friday night at 5:30 and we were seated immediately while the restaurant was already pretty busy. A little noisy, given the crowd, but not overly so - we were fine talking in our booth without yelling. The place was clean overall, and a quick look at the menu confirmed the kids were covered and the adults could try something new or stick to old favorites. Service was amazingly quick, especially with a full house. Food was pretty good, and all meals were reasonably priced for what we got. Two knocks on the experience would be my sons side had to hairs in it (addressed quickly by the staff and followed up on by managers), and I ordered a blue moon beer without realizing it was a bottle priced at $5.29. That's more than many of their mixed drinks. Daughter says to make sure they get two thumbs up for the legendary giant cookie dessert. We would eat here regularly if we were local. We were seated promptly upon arrival. I ordered the bacon cheddar cheese burger. My waiter suggested adding another patty and cheese for a nominal fee. I am glad that I upgraded my burger.
