This used to be a good Cheddars at this location and still would be if they hired Adequate staff. The hostess aside from just being downright rude couldn't help with anything and then went on and on about how short staffed they are and that they would not be able to seat me... one person... until right at closing time. I was here at 8:40 so I told her I didn't have a problem sitting at the bar and then she acted kind of rude about that. They had a ton of boots around the bar too and she wouldn't allow me to order from the bar with the bartender pay him and said that one of those. They weren't even busy and I wasn't looking like trash so not sure I understand the deal, but if you walk into this place and you get that rude hostess I suggest you go anywhere else even if it's Mc Donalds down the street because you'll have a much better experience than here. read more

My wife and I were in the mood for a nice steak dinner. We drove all the way from south Tampa. Ordered our steaks and I ordered a diet Coke and my wife ordered water. Everyfhing was going well until I ran out of Diet Coke. I asked for a refill. Never got one. I asked again. Never got one. My whole steak dinner was ruined because I never got a refill on a drink (that I paid for). Finally they called a manager over She thought it was ridiculous that I thought my meal was ruined because I didn't have a drink (that I paid for). Lots of flavor and a spicy kick. Onion ring app- nice presentation and again, a huge portion. Hubby and son like the country fried steak and chicken plates. I've just realized everything is done big here lol. Food, desserts and drinks. Def get what you pay for. Service has been good every time we have been in so far. Parking is ample and the restaurant is normally busy. Wait times for food are not bad though. They really sling some food out in the kitchen! If there is a wait to be seated, they give you a buzzer to notify when table is ready. A worthwhile stop if you are in the area. I have been to this restaurant three times now and I honestly can not say whether or not I like it. The food has been so mixed that it leaves me confused as to whether or not the chef(s) can cook. Mine was extremely sour and tart and had almost no strawberry in it) See what I am talking about? At the last meal I couldn't drink my Texas Strawberry Swirl and my husband couldn't eat his Pot Roast. We ended up ordering the Chocolate Chip cookie just to fill him up (I forgot to mention that above, but it really isn't worth mentioning. If you want an amazing dessert cookie cross the road to BJ's). Service has also been mixed but more towards the poor side. The waitress we last had was an airhead and you had to actually show her on the menu what you wanted because when you said it she looked at you like a deer in headlights. Great place to come with friends and family. The service is a hit or miss depending on how busy they are and what day and time you go, but the food is absolutely delicious and the prices are very fair for how big the serving sizes are. The alcoholic drinks are great and I recommend a Texas sweet tea if you are not driving home and their honey butter biscuits as an appetizer. All the servers had a sense of humor and were prompt in taking our orders and getting us out the door in time for a doctor's appointment. Everything on the menu is fairly cheap yet tasty. The good: Definitely try their Honey butter croissants. 3 for $2.49 straight out of the oven! So good! -their onion rings are deliciously crispy and come in a large portion for only $3.99 -The monte cristo was like a turkey and ham sandwich in a doughnut! We are big fans of cheddars. This is the closest one to my house and we went early in a Saturday night. We like to sit in the bar as we are football fans. Good tvs in there. But strange when we sat in a booth it was as if we got scolded that we sat there. We were told that any other time we wouldn't be able to. There were about 8 patrons on the bar area. It took a very long time to get our drinks. Good selection of beers but other people recorded their drinks and apps before we even had our drinks. ?? Food came out hot and fresh. Once I was able to look at the menu, I decided to order the edamame, and it was as I expected, though they did offer dipping spices, which were pretty tasty. Our meals that were ordered were surprisingly large.. well my friends was anyway. I ordered off the 7 below 700 menu, I got the parmesan crusted steak, and while it was tasty, I wished they'd served the steak and salad on seperate plates. A bloody steak does not pair well with your bleu cheese salad dressing. However, the shrimp and chicken fingers plate? So much better than the Clearwater location, there were a lot of tables open and we had no wait time while they patiently waited for me to finish a business call that I had to take and my guest that was on the way. I ordered the Monte Cristo and was like, welp guess my tummy will hurt later but at least it will be good! Shockingly it didn't upset my stomach later which is what I experienced when I ate the same thing at the Clearwater location on Ulmerton. My mom was satisfied with her meal which was the New Orleans pasta. It tasted exactly like a dinner she made for me when I was pregnant. The server did a wonderful job and on a previous occasion when I was here with a lot of my family to celebrate my birthday and another time my mom's birthday the server did an excellent job and had such an awesome personality it added to our dining experience in a positive way which was great since we were there celebrating birthdays. I do wish they had healthy options that taste great and would be more vegan friendly. I did order broccoli as my side and it was very tasty. Overall, for both our meals of two adults and my daughter who had a kids meal it came to $24 which was a great price in my book. Most restaurants bring out bread while you are waiting for your meal and there was no bread here, but that is okay. It's nice to go out and not break your pocket on a random weekday evening. My experience here makes me want to avoid their Clearwater Ulmerton Rd location like the plague due to the ridiculous wait time no matter when you go. read more

Had a family dinner there back in early May (6th, 2016)...along with my Brother and his family. Actually tried to get in to BJ's across the street, but their wait was over an hour on that Friday night. We were all looking for a family place, as we had 3 year olds, teenagers, and adults (that act like teenagers,) so a place like this was perfect. We're all not from Florida, so Cheddars was new to us...and overall, it was an A-OK dinner. After a little confusion as to where to sit...we finally made our way to a large table to handle all 9 of us. The service was excellent, the drinks good, and the food was OK. I'm so glad that I do not have to travel to Clearwater to go to Cheddars anymore! What a great alternative to Applebee's and Chili's. It's fairly new so it's clean and updated inside. I like how the bar is separate from the restaurant. I think it helps with the noise level. I always order the same thing and it never disappoints. I get the veggie plate. It comes with a side salad, four sides, and a croissant. I get the side house salad with the balsamic vinegarette and it's always fresh. The soft buttery croissant comes out with the salad and it literally melts in my mouth. The four sides that get are the red beans and rice, baby carrots, green beans, and broccoli cheese casserole. The red beans and rice also has sausage in it and it has just enough spice. The baby carrots are tender and sweet. The green beans are never soggy and are full of flavor. The broccoli cheese casserole is perfect because it's not too cheesy or dry. It's scrumptious! The service is always great. One day, I'm going to try one if those fancy alcoholic drinks where there is a limit in how many you can have. read more

Cheddar's I typically only come here with family when they request it. We ordered the Wisconsin Cheese Bites. Lightly breaded, but not with a thick clunky batter; they are deep fried and were served with a side of warm marinara. While the cheese had a nice flavor the marinara needed work, tasted very generic. For my entrée I ordered the Dijon Chicken and Mushrooms. My chicken was served on a bed of not seasoned rice and came with two sides and a croissant (upon request! -Do request it though, very soft and buttery drizzled with warm honey-butter. Certainly not made fresh in house but overall good!). For sides I chose the broccoli and cheese casserole - my ultimate favorite from Cheddar's, however, since everything went corporate I have noticed a decline in the quality of food and an increase in price. The broccoli cheese casserole is very cheesy and topped with a sprinkle of breadcrumb. The chicken was pretty good, I wish the mushrooms were cut in half, or sliced at all, and cooked for a little while longer. The Dijon sauce that my chicken was amply coated with was very tangy with mustard but I felt it was lacking a bit more Dijon bite. Cheddar's is a chain restaurant - I would group it with Chili's and Applebee's. Convenient, quick, familiar, close, but not mind-blowing. read more

This pleased me as I hate being in the middle of a bunch of people who are talking way too loud. Our server was kind. She took our drink orders. Provided waters for all of us. Delivered the drinks quickly even though they were very busy. (Plastic straws need to go!) She took our food orders. I had to go with the salmon dinner portion with mac n cheese and broccoli casserole. All delicious. My husband had the 20 oz. bone in ribeye, mac n cheese and corn off the cob. He loved all of it and they cooked it medium rare as he asked them to do. Partners ordered the half rack of ribs and something else plus onion rings. Wow, holy huge portion. Other dining mate ordered the shrimp and sweet potato. Loved it. Our waitress kept our waters full and was very attentive. Our food was all wonderful. We were impressed entirely. We would definitely return and we are people that don't usually do that. There are too many good places to try to redo something. Like all Cheddar's SK's, the atmosphere is upscale with dark moody lighting, stone wall features, deep booths with leather upholstery. We came at 6pm on a Sunday evening and were seated immediately as a party of 5. They do not take reservations. (Note: by the time we left at 6:45pm there was a 1.5 hour wait). We advised the wait staff that we were in a bit of a rush as we had a plane to catch and they were very accommodating. Food was good. It's not fancy. It's large portions of comfort food. We tried the country fried chicken (lunch portion -- which is 1 chicken breast instead of 2)...and really, who doesn't love country gravy? For $9 it's a steal. Although the "dinner" portion is only $10, so maybe a better deal if you like leftovers. Also had the BBQ chicken platter (2 chicken thighs and drumsticks) & the 1/2 rack of ribs. Having never tried this place before, I figured I would give this place a look. I think overall the atmosphere and service of this place was good. The restaurant was well kept and the server's were attentive, keeping the drinks filled and making sure we were happy with our food. The meal to me was ok though. It didn't really blow me away. I think it's your pretty typical middle of the road restaurant. I got the country fried steak for dinner. The baked sweet potato was pretty good, especially the cinnamon butter. The country fried steak, although decently seasoned, I thought was a bit too heavily battered. Oftentimes, there was more fried coating than steak, making the meal feel heavier than it could have been. Overall, although not a bad place for a meal here and there, it might not be a place I would go out of my way for. Maybe I just haven't found a better dish yet. It had been quite some time since I've been back to this restaurant. (I actually went to a different location- but you know what I mean) We went for lunch after church. I believe the other parties were greater than 6 so that's why they had to wait. We ended up at a booth and had a nice waitress. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and also accommodating, as we had our 1 year swirmy boy with us. We tried the spinach artichoke dip and cheese bites for starters and both were very good. I did let myself have a drink and got the 'Texas Tea'. It was one of the cheaper drinks on the menu but ended up being bigger than the rest of them. She handed me a goblet of tea much to my surprise. It was very good and got a little buzz to get through lunch and a whiny baby. Their menu items are varied and it seems like there is something for anyone and everyone. I got the bourbon glazed salmon (yes I know the bourbon is cooked off lol) for some odd reason the Hubby got a steak and my MIL got blackened tilapia [I did say to her 'You won't like it because it is spicy... but the waitress insisted it was not 'spicy'. I am used to not being listened to so...] The salmon came out and it was bit dry but the rice, broccoli and mac & cheese (for jr) was ok. Hubby's steak came out nicely and knowing that it wasn't 5 start worthy was still good enough at that price point... As for the M.I.L. (Mother In Law) she complained the whole meal through that it was spicy etc etc- so on that point they did kind of just pour a whole lot of spices on top of the fish and cook it. We ended up with her leftovers so when I had it the inside of the fish (that had no seasoning was ok) but ya I myself am not a fan of blackened food and just took off the spices and ate around it. Dessert! Yes we actually made it to dessert with the kids! Whiny but when Jr had a taste of the HUGE (it was the size of my head) chocolate fudge cake- he was good to go. It was delicious... at tad too much fudge and not enough cake but regardless a good way to end the meal. The waitress did tell us they 1) don't have or do candles 2) don't sing. SO she just dropped off the slice and went about her business. I would go back. Last weekend I ordered the corn meal breaded fish / fried. All the food comes and my husband starts inhaling the onion rings. I spread lemon juice all over my fish and pull off a bite. It kind of looked funny but I took a bite. It was runny! After further inspection it was pinkish and clear. Not cooked and this was an edge bite. So finally we got our server's attention and she promised a new plate of fish. My husband ate all his food. I nibbled on my broccoli and the new fish came out just as I was ready to walk out. It was BURNT. Really? You replace uncooked fish with burnt? Not a little burnt - dark brown and black. Naturally I complained but I wasn't waiting for yet a third plate of food. We were ready to go. The server said she was going to get it comp'd. She came back with our bill and the fish was comp'd. She came to get our money and didn't have a $5 change. So she leaves and is gone for 15 minutes. OMG - worst night ever. I was going to give her a great tip for trying, but that feeling went away after 10 minutes. - p.s. We both ordered iced tea and were served two classes of tea with NO ice.
