I arrived in Beaumont TX today after battling traffic from San Antonio. With the I10 closed that caused a problem but I made it. It's was time to find somewhere to eat and We We hadn't had Cheddar's In a while ao Cheddar's it is. We decided to call in our order and go pick it up. The place was packed as usual not many parking spaces available so we parked in thw pickup slots. Once we arrived we had a short wait for our order. The cashier was friendly and courteous. As we paid for the order we noticed the steak was well done instead of medium well but that was okay not a big deal. Once we got home everything was delicious. I got the Chicken Fried Steak with Corn and Red Beans and rice. The red beans and rice were delicious. Well seasoned and tasted like homemade. The Chicken Fried steak was huge and The corn was also good. We got a order of onion rings and they are always delicious. My Fiance got the 6oz steak with green beans and French fries with a order of Croissants. Everything was absolutely delicious as always. We arrived at 2:45 on a Saturday we wanted a bite to eat before we went to see John wick 2. The place was packed so we sat at the bar. Keith was are bar tender. Holy-Caloritic-intake-Batman! Cheddars is one of those places that a chubby fella like me who's trying to watch his girlish figure has to be careful. Cheddar's is one of those chains that doesn't disclose their nutritional info on their website, and with good reason. I was looking for a light meal so opted for the Asian chicken and shrimp salad. Imagine my surprise when I googled the calorie chart later to see this is a 1,250 calorie salad!! Holy Shit! I could have ate a Monte Cristo( a deep fried ham, turkey 2 cheeses, raspberry preserves dusted in powdered sugar) and only had 1125 calories! WTF! Now granted they give you 3 dressings and I don't eat all of those but still. Gotsta be mo' careful! Anyway most people may not care about that and if I hadn't been a lazy turd recently I wouldn't either. Other than my fat boy rant, I find this Cheddar's solid. I've never been to any other one. The place is cheap. Today I got the Hawaiian Chicken Salad(525 calories) which comes with a buttery croissant(115 calories) for only 10.79 tax included. The salad is huge and could almost be 2 meals. The chicken is grilled and has a nice char to it, the pineapples and diced tomatoes are refreshing as is the honey lime vinaigrette. The to-go service is a little slow. "It will be ready in 15-20 minutes" is usually 30 plus. However when I have eaten at the bar, the service was adequate. My hotel is next door so it's convenient for when I'm in town. I'm not too much of a food critic but I didn't have the best experience at this restaurant. I was impressed at first with how fast we got to our table which was clean and ready! But when my friend had his drink brought out (Jim Bean+ Diet Coke) the whiskey and the coke were SEPERATED and not mixed in together which it was supposed to be. We then got our food brought to us and my friend didn't have any complaints with his New Orleans pasta. We showed it to our server ( SHE WAS AMAZING) she told us that she showed the manager before and he said what do you want me to do?? Was in town for work and stayed at a hotel nearby. I called in an order, went over to pick it up in the pouring rain. When I got there, the hostes was standing there, and someone was speaking to a possible new employee or hiring them? Not sure, but stood behind them until they were done and finally was greeted. They sent me to the Togo counter, and they didn't have my order. They asked how it was placed, so I pulled up my phone to show the number, time I called and duration. The food was good, as usual, although the portion sizes seemed smaller than normal. The server was very nice. We felt bad for her, because she was tasked with telling us what they didn't have available. After we had our first glass of Coke Zero, she had to tell us they had ran out and couldn't do refills. We had a training waitress who was amazing and worth the $15 tip and our food was only $25. The spinach dip appetizer came out quickly and was delicious - it's served with a small salsa on the side and has nice flavor. Usually this is one of our favorite places to eat. Today that was not the case at all. We had to wait over an hour and a half just to get drink refills. After our waitress had brought our original drinks she was nowhere to be found. It was only after complaining to a manager that we received our drinks and then not all of them. It would be understandable if the waitress was about helping other people but to not be seen at all is horrible. No. However for what it is, it beats the pants off the larger/similar style Applebees and Chilis of the world for value. I generally love Cheddars, Not so much this location. I know it's Beaumont and it's humid and bugs but there really should never be giant outdoor roaches in the restaurant. All restaurants should have exterminator services. I had the chicken strips which were okay but I was surprised by the flavorless red beans and rice. I tasted one of my dining companions green beans and they tasted like they had sugar in them, yuck. Food was adequate-- not terrible, not great--which is exactly what you should expect to get at a Cheddar's. So no points off for that. Silverware was dirty, fork tines were badly bent. Service was slow in general, plus my wife asked for butter for her baked potato, and when it didn't show up after a long while, she gave up and ate it with no butter. They are not consistent at all. It's one of the common places to go in Beaumont. Good food at good prices. It's always a hit or miss though. I usually try and get different items when I go. There's a decent variety on the menu. Don't pass up the croissants and ask for them fresh! Your dining experience here usually depends on the attitude of your waitress. If you get an entree like ribs or a casserole it's better at lunch because I believe they make batches at one time daily. I always get chicken fingers and can rarely finish the meal and the sides given the ridiculous portions. My only gripe with the buffalo chicken fingers is the ridiculously small amount of ranch dressing that you get on the side. I always have to ask for a backup. They needed some acid on them to cut the cloying sweetness. The bad. The tap water was nasty. I couldn't drink it. It had a foul, musty taste so I asked for bottled water. They said they had Dasani (which is fine), but then returned to say that they had none in stock. Maybe a lot of others have been ordering bottled water! After lunch I had a cup of decaf, and it was okay, except that it had a strong hint of vanilla bean. I'm not a flavored coffee fan - I like my coffee plain, dark, and slightly bitter, and I don't appreciate getting a flavored coffee as an undeclared default. The portion control is out of control here at Cheddars. We ordered a dinner sized portion of chicken fingers and split it. We were swimming in fingers by the end of the experience--plenty to share. We sat in the bar, "a clean, well-lighted place." The best part was the bartender who was absolutely delightful and happy to make us happy. It does not happen often, so I relish it when someone that outgoing wants to serve well. House Pinot Grigio was better than the Pinot at the Carino's next door.
