Where to start... On a very slow day, slow enough to see employee's just standing around, possibly the host's. My wife and her friend waited well over 20 minute for service, what's worst, is sitting in a bar area where there were only 4 people total... Some girl with with long dark hair certainly went out of her way to avoid us,(she only had 2 tables) when my wife's friend finally flagged the host down and got us a server. He certainly was redeeming, he was prompt, food came to us quickly, and he was extremely professional. Don't know his name, Some white guy with short brown hair? Anywho thanks to him he saved the night was redeemed. Pretty good food, I ordered the chicken strip platter or something- idk exactly what it was called, but it was pretty good. It was just basic chicken strips and fries. Only complaint is that they didn't really put enough fries on the side as I think they should have. One minor thing to note is that they did forget one of the parts to my friend's meal, however when we let them know they were happy to bring it straight to us- no questions asked. I also want to give props to my server, James. He was very kind and a funny guy all around. Very generous as well- don't tell anyone but he liked my group so much that he got us free chips and queso+salsa! Despite the minor errors on them they definitely deserve 5 stars. read more

I have never been to Cheddars before and my experience was great! I wasn't a fan of the food but the manager and our server made up for it. When we went it was a busy day and the server forgot our chips and queso. They apologized for the service due to having bigger parties. They paid for our meal and covered anything. I honestly can say it's amazing when someone notices how they aren't giving you 100% and take care of the issue before you have to say something. The manager was very courteous and polite to us. Our server was wonderful and I can understand the other parties being so large. It's a lot to manage when your trying to be in different places all at once. While the service at this Cheddar's location has steadily gone down hill, today was the worst and we didn't even make it past the hostess. When we asked for a table for 8 ( 2 adults and 6 kids ranging from 7 to 16) the hostess immediately became snippy and stated it would be at least an hour wait. When another employee came up and stated they could seat us, the hostess asked to speak with them. They walked away and a minute later the hostess came back and rudely stated it would still be an hour wait. Looking around the dining room the restaurant wasn't even booked and there was no one waiting to be seated. Please note, it wasn't so much the hour long wait that resulted in the 1 star, it was the lack of service that the hostess provided. Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen was such a lovely, delightful change from all the other dinner spots out there. I was so blown away by how the food was presented via the menu. Deciding what to eat was actually hard, everything looked so good, it was definitely hard to decide... but in a very delightful way. *figure that out LOL* Imagine my surprise to discover how wonderfully flavored all the food was. I didn't have anything that wasn't top notch. I order a lovely dinner of Steak and Shrimp... that was divine, it truly was. The croissant with the melted honey butter was far and above the best I've ever had. The shrimp was so so so tasty, but so was the steak! I have to say, now don't laugh any of you out there, but the salad that came with the meal as a "dinner salad" was freaking amazing!!! The ranch dressing is the one I love and can't find at the store, it had everything, lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, onions, and cheese with the best Ranch dressing on the planet served on the side. It also came with a baked potato which was out of this world in flavor!! Gads, it was all I could do to eat the salad, the vegetable (corn on the cob sans the cob... MMMMM good!!!), the croissant, everything. But when I did finally turn my attention to the steak and shrimp I was absolutely bowled over!! The shrimp was cooked to perfection, nothing rubbery or springy about that shrimp and the flavor was AMAZING!!!!! It came with a Mango Chutney (a bit too spicy for me but soooo good) with the shrimp on a bed of white rice. My steak was cooked to perfection according to my order which was med rare, and the flavor was absolutely divine. I only made it half way through my steak, ate only half my salad, ate half my potato, my corn was gone (I really really love corn... any style) and the shrimp was gone. The next day when I heated up my steak, I sliced it in half longways, put Organic Avocado Oil Mayonnaise on my whole wheat bread and it was so amazingly good! I also heated up my potato and added fresh sour cream then devoured it. My salad I simply stirred up after adding my own grape tomatoes and the shining item on my lunch menu was... *drum roll goes here* my salad!! But of course it was, as it had been the night before at dinner. I was so taken with the number of ingredients but the salad dressing just blew me away. It's my absolute favorite, though I can never find it at stores or anywhere online, nor can I find the right recipe. If anyone knows it drop me an email I'll be indebted for life! I guess what I'm trying to say is go to Cheddar's I'm sure you will NOT be disappointed. From entering to leaving everything was wonderful. Went there Oct 5 with a $50 gift card bought at that same Cheddar's. They did not honor the card, because Cheddar's had changed its name to Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen. Wrote the company - no response. The service was extremely slow, disorganized, and amateurish. A simple dinner took almost 2 hours. The food was good, but hard to enjoy given the rest of the experience. Three people - $55 w/o drinks. For that, we'll try other places that do honor their gift cards and monitor their servers. UPDATE: Took a few days, but they apologized and sent a $75 gift card to replace the $50 gift card. I'll try them again and hope for a more experienced staff or at least closer staff monitoring. I will start off by saying the food here is amazing. I've had the monte cristo and the chicken fried chicken and both were soooooo good. Regarding sides, the fries are just your average kind of fries but still not bad. Their mashed potatoes are good, as is their corn, green beans, but what stands out, what you absolutely have to get is the broccoli cheese. Seriously. Unless you hate broccoli, get this side. I don't even really like cheese on my broccoli and this side is a must-order for me. My boyfriend always gets the ribs and (grilled, though you can also get fried) shrimp combo and while he thinks it's good, he is always reminded every time we go that the amount of shrimp you get in the combo is kind of lacking. Just saying. The service is good every time we go. I've never had a bad experience with my waiter or anything like food taking forever to come out. The only bad thing I can report is one instance when I did come an hour before closing (so there was still plenty of time to eat), I was seated in the bar area. This in itself wasn't a bad thing. But we were seated at the booth right next to the exit to the patio area. Even though the restaurant was still open, the entire time we were seated, other employees kept coming in and out of the patio area. They'd leave the door open for long periods of time, talking to each other (not in a professional manner) as if no one else were around, all the while the cold air from outside was blowing on our food that had been hot until they started doing that. It was just incredibly rude and since employees started doing it a full 45 minutes before closing, very surprising since they were carrying on as if the place had already been closed for some time. Anyway, the other times I have been and haven't been seated in the bar area were much more pleasant as this wasn't an issue. I live out of town and don't get to eat here often. I get excited when ever I can. My broker called to take me out to eat. I suggested we eat at Cheddars. He agreed. As usual we had a a great meal of fried Shrimp, two sides . I had two Margaritas. We also had the big stack of Onion Rings. I won't go there unless I can get them. He ate most of the wonderful Crescent Rolls and I ate most of the Onion rings. Oh well.....so much for my diet. Maybe I will take my my wife back for a Mother's day meal. Called in a pick up order for ribs and broccoli casserole along with mashed potatoes. I'd been here before and had good experiences. But this time the food was not okay, the mashed potatoes were crusty, the croissants were crunchy and old as if they'd been sitting out all night, and the broccoli casserole was burnt and looked as if they served us the portion from the bottom of the pan. I'm not sure what they're food handling or storage practices are right now but I got very sick after eating it two separate times. Given the quality of the other food I'm willing to bet the ribs may have been contaminated or handled inappropriately as well. Save yourself the stomach ache and choose another restaurant. read more

For 21 blissful years, I never had the occasion to learn what a Cheddar's was. I always thought it was a suburban chain that served nothing but fried food doused in different kinds of cheese. I was thinking like a Golden Corral, but with everything covered in Velveeta. This is the stuff of nightmares. My 21st birthday found me in San Angelo, TX. Yes, I was in San Angelo. Yes, it was my 21st birthday. I'll allow you a moment to process this information, as I need a moment to re-process it for around the hundredth time in my life. If you're still wondering 'Why?", I can tell you I didn't just throw a dart at a map to see where I'd spend this occasion, and then forced myself on principle to travel wherever it landed, no matter how unfortunate. My best friend at the time Stephanie and her boyfriend Alan were sweet enough to invite me and take me out. First stop? Cheddars, for cocktails. For San Angelo, it was a pretty sophisticated venue. For me, I was too distracted by that relieved feeling of being able to (legally) drink in a bar. Seriously, my first legal drink was at a damned Cheddars? Major WTF. Did it get worse? Oh you better believe it. After my cocktail hour at Cheddars, the day devolved into an evening of rednecks, tequila shooters, and a 55 year old woman dancing topless on a table before I was carried home by my friends where I promptly puked up enchiladas on their neighbor's front lawn as they sat on the patio and watched with their mouths agape. Sweet, sweet memories. Anyways, I guess the whole point of that sordid story of San Angelo was to establish Cheddars as a restaurant that holds a place in my memory, however anachronistic in my tastes and preferences. Sort of. After my debauched evening at The Iron Bear last week, I woke up to the not-so-startling realization I'd left my car downtown, and I needed a ride. I called Jersey, who shocked the hell out of me by actually showing up at my friend's place and taking me straight to my car. Grateful, I sort of blurted out that I'd buy her lunch at Cheddars. I was hungover, and I needed that bland, comforting, starchy food that settles the stomach in ways my usual lunch of tofu-spinach wraps and carrot sticks just can't. We rolled in and were seated immediately. I was still sort of buzzed, and I think it showed. I know this, because I don't remember details about the waitress or the surrounding patrons as sharply as I usually do. It seemed like there were a lot of older people there, though. Fried chicken tenders sounded divine at the moment. I ordered a loaded baked potato for the first time in a year, and you'd have to be batshiat crazy to think I was gonna leave there without that delicious broccoli-cheese casserole. I requested an order of the croissants, but sans the honey. I prefaced this with "Yeah, I know I'm weird, but...", but thankfully the waitress says that's how she likes them, too. Even if she was lying through her teeth, that was really sweet of her. Jersey got something I don't recall, but let's just say she ate their "Spasagna"--only because I will never have another occasion to use this stupid word in any other capacity. The food was...food. Classic, mediocre, middle-of-the-road American suburban restaurant chain food. In a taste test, I wouldn't know if it were from a Texas Roadhouse, a Chili's, a Cheddars, or a frozen dinner from the HEB. Except for the casserole. I'd know that dish anywhere. As I sat across from Jersey before our food came out, I slumped in the booth in my designer sportswear, head pounding, tummy rumbling, sucking down iced tea like a beast and I asked myself why, out of all the places in the city at my disposal, I chose to patronize Cheddars. i am not generally a fan of the chains - especially the ones that to me are practically indistinguishable from one another like cheddars, chilis, bennigans, crapplebees...they are generally unimaginative and banal. however, i found myself there last night because i was tired and lazy and broke. i ordered the vegetable plate. this comes with a bowl of soup or a garden salad and then your choice of 4 sides. i had the garden salad and then my 4 sides were steamed broccoli, sweet carrots, southern green beans, and a baked potato. it was not spectacular or exciting or imaginative - but it was $5.99 and it was good enough and i did not have to cook it or clean it up. my partner had a mushroom burger with fries. also $5.99. very tasty burger (though a little weird that the shrooms are left whole - which makes things a little messy). he also had a sierra nevada bottle. so two of us left there completely satiated and the whole thing including tip was just under $20. i am giving them 4 stars not because they are up there with my favorite upscale places, but because for what it was, and what they are trying to be, they did a fine job. read more

went into Cheddars about a week and a half ago. Was told that we couldn't enter because we didn't have a mask. Talked to the assistant manager Chris Noech (sp?) and he was putting his mask on as he was coming over to tell us to put ours on or he was going to refuse us service. so we left. Prior to that he wants to tell us that Walmart, HEB and Home depot all make people wear masks. (Which is not true) and who cares what they are doing. I am at Cheddars to eat not Walmart, HEB or Home Depot. He then says its the law. (It's not the law) he said it was Darden's Law. Who put Darden in charge of Making law?!? He is confused at this point... Anyways we left as I am not going to wear a mask when as soon as you sit down the masks come off and people go to the restroom without their masks and they make a 1.5% difference as recent study's show per the CDC... I then proceeded to call the manager today Danny NUNEZ who was only interested in trying to tell me that I cussed at his hostess before Covid....what the?!?! HE wasn't interested in hearing about my experience as much as he was trying to convince me that I cussed at his hostess over a year ago. I have noticed that every time we go in there the past several months that there are less and less people in the restaurant. So it wont be long before the restaurant goes out of business. Based on that as well as the reviews have went from 4.5 stars to 3.5 stars in two months. So here is my a review of my interaction with the manger and the assistant manager. I am not interested in ever going back to this restaurant. I will only go back once it is out of business and there is another restaurant there. Which wont be long. I have now branched out on the menu besides the Monte Cristo. They have a nice selection of combos (ribs, shrimp, chicken, or steak) that are perfectly sized for sharing. If you're thirsty for a tantalizing drink, order up the Painkiller - it's a work of art that tastes great, too. And forget about using a straw; you'll definitely want to drink it straight from the glass to taste the honey-infused, toasted coconut ring. read more

Okay so I'm one of those South Austinites that rarely goes up north, well because it's up north. LOL I had a staff meeting and was meeting up with an organizer kinda last minute. The meeting set for 8pm. We got there, the staff was super nice and courteous, helped me get to my party no problem, no fuss! We had an excellent waitress, I wish I could remember her name. But she was great, brought out everything we wanted and was even awesome enough to suggested some really excellent combinations. We had chips, salsa and queso. I didn't have a lot of it, but it was very delicious. I had the grilled lemon pepper catfish with the rice, green beans and mashed potatoes. Yum comfort food! I enjoyed every bite, I even had some leftover to take with me to work for lunch! Me and my party had a blast while we were there and felt very relaxed and comfortable. What's more is that unlike Chili's, Applebees and such, they're actually decently priced and the service is pretty damn good. This whole experience kinda broaden my mind about coming up north. So haven't been here in a long time! And we went here today for a honeymoon lunch/dinner. Let me just say both waitresses were pretty nice one of them was kinda rude but not to bad . Also the whole place had a nasty smell to it , kinda threw me off a bit . Now to the food I ordered chicken fried chicken with mash potatoes and baby carrots . Although the food was just ok the service was horrible we will not be going back. But it is hard to hurt nachos. The Monty Cristo my boyfriend had was mushy and oily not that nice Cristo exterior that was expected. About 5 minutes after or food arrived we got silverware and napkins even though we asked when we sat down and asked the waitress again when she brought it drinks and then asked the people that brought it or food. This review in a sentence? Decent food for a decent price. Its not great, its not terrible, its just decent. We showed up at about 7:30 on a Saturday night (who's idea was that? seriously!) after being told there was an hour wait at another restaurant. We were seated within 20 minutes at a booth. This was the first time I had ever been to a cheddars but I was figuring Chili's, Applebee's, etc. I was surprised at how cheap the burgers were and everything else was a pretty reasonable price as well. I ordered the Santa Fe spinach dip as an appetizer and the New Orleans Pasta as my main dish. The spinach dip was decent. It seemed a bit too spinachy for me personally and the salsa that came with the chips was typical store bought something. The main dishes came out a little while later and I have to say I was somewhat impressed by the quality of the shrimp in my pasta. Normally I avoid ordering shrimp from anywhere that isn't a primarily seafood place but I figured what the heck and tried it. Not your typical shrimp but the chicken that was in the dish just tasted kind of... off. Something wasn't quite right. The sausage was alright but the slices were somewhat large and made it awkward to eat. There was a bit of confusion on the bill but that usually happens when you ask to do split checks but we just decided to live with it. One of the things that is not cheap here is the soda and tea. It's $2 for a glass with free refills. Higher than I seem to remember paying at other restaurants. A decent place with decent service and decent food. Will I go back? Probably not. But if I'm going with friends I'm sure I'll end up tagging along. read more

Overall I love cheddars. drinks are good and reasonable price. But every time my family and I have been we have had horrible service. Last time we went on a gorgeous day sat outside and no one came and served us. We waited 15 minutes. Went to the host 2 times and asked for a server and still no server then proceeded into the bar area and still had many servers pass is but no one stopped until I waved someone down. Then the girl forgot to ring in our food as we waited for 30 minutes then she tells us. She didn't even tell us her name. Worst experience. I would give cheddars more stars but I really can't.
