This place does not take reservations but does get busy during the weekends at peak times. We came for 5:30 and we got seated right away, group of 8. They have tables and booths as well. The service is fast but noticed there are just two cooks in the back so service got slightly slow, we ordered a lot of food, many skewers. The chicken is very good, mushrooms were not bad, enoki mushroom has a lot of aroma. Each order comes with 4 skewers pricing is about $7-9 so your bill can rack up. You also get the choice of spicy level. You order on the app and pay in the end. Corn was not sweet at all, disappointing on that part. Parking is at the front but paid, you can park behind H mart or across the street at the side streets. I would come here again. read more

Came here fo their winterlicious special. The most amazing their about this place is the service. The waitresses are all so nice and almost run to ur table to fill your water and clear your plates. Skewers were really good.the chicken cartilage and pork belly were the best in my opinion. The only thing I did not like is that th hot plate they put on ur table to keep ur food warm is not actually warm. Coming here in the future I will eat faster. read more

This was a nice place to have some skewers! The portions were generous, and all the skewers were flavoured nicely with chili peppers or cumin. I really enjoyed from first preference to last preference: chicken skins, chicken cartilage, lamb. Would order any of these three again. The one thing is that these skewers are very very salty. I went home with what felt like an inflamed throat after eating only 10 skewers ($~25) and drinking 3 cups of water at the resto. read more

There is one thing that should make Chat Bar your go-to spot for skewers. We ordered 5 different kinds of skewers and 3 side dishes for 2 people. Every. single. one. was delicious. Prices are the same compared to other restaurant of its kind, but what truly made it shine was its service. Amanda was the most helpful waitress I've had in years. She took the time to describe to us all her recommendations according to our favorite flavor profiles and even offered to adjust the seasoning of the dishes depending on how we found the ones that were served first. Ordering is easy as can be using their QR code, with nice pictures for every dish in case you're unfamiliar. Food also came lighting fast, around 5 min after putting the order in. I am almost glad I don't live close by because I'd spend way too much time and money there. Definitely recommend it. read more

Late night vibes here are great to have some drinks and Chinese BBQ skewers. Prices here have gone up quite a bit over the years, but the food was great. All the items we ordered were bomb and decent in size, but the chicken skin and the rice cakes were our absolute faves. Hands down a must try! The service is great here. Everything came out pretty quickly and served with a smile read more

Came here with my family and didn't have to wait that long for a seat. The seating were kinda cute with mini hut seatings for groups. There's plenty of seats as there's an upper level too. One complaint I have about this restaurant is that the lighting is so dark that I can barely see the menu or the food I'm eating. For the skewers I got lamb, beef, chicken wings with garlic sauce, grilled sausage and pork knuckle. I also ordered the eggplant with garlic sauce, cheese corn and the charcoal grilled oysters, clams and the ox tail and tomato soup. For standouts, I really liked the grilled sausage as It was slightly sweet. The oysters were also really good and pretty decent sized (just watch out for the chilli pepper). The chicken wing was also okay The ones I would definitely avoid is the cheese corn. Honestly the cheese kind of hardened up so it wasn't worth it. Overall, I think the skewers pretty much taste similar based on the seasoning powder. I docked stars just cause although the food was okay overall, it was pretty much already prepped and not too hot. Like I felt like the candle lighting was more of a gimmick. The service is also not bad, it did get kind of confusing cause different servers brought our food and when we ask for something we'd have to wait for a specific one. They did ask for feedback at the end which was nice. read more

I went here for a quick bite with two of my buddies. We were seated in the back patio. There is an underground walkway to get the back patio, which is spacious with plenty seating. Our Waiter was wonderful & we received all our bites within great timing. Food was very flavorful, especially the King Oyster Mushroom. Definitely recommend to try it. I'm definitely going back soon to try other bites on the menu. read more

Amazing authentic Chinese BBQ place in Toronto! It is my go-to place when I'm crazing for BBQ. I have been ordering from Ubereats couple of times and finally got the chance to dine in yesterday night. -vaccine passport and ID check - the food is amazing and fresh-made -the service is friendly - the vibe is good for friends gathering/meet-up - close to TTC ( may be difficult to find a parking lot on busy weekends) In general I like it and will be back soon with friends. read more

Decent sized restaurant with booths. Street parking available in front of the restaurant. Food: not the best compared to their other locations. The food was pretty good. Love how well everything is seasoned. They have a hot plate with a candle at every table to heat up the skewers. Have been wanting to come here for a long time since I really like skewers :) I came here with a group of friends and ordered lamb skewers, beef short ribs, beef skewers, pork belly skewers, king oyster mushrooms and kimchi fired rice. The mushrooms, lamb and pork belly were amazing! Very well seasoned and charred just the right amount. Definitely recommend giving these items a try. The other items we ordered didn't stand out to me as much. The kimchi fried rice especially had no flavour. All I tasted was sesame oil and a tiny bit of gochujang. read more

I came here with a group of friends (8 of us). I was happy to see that this location was larger and had more seats upstairs. The ambiance was the same as the Scarborough location, so no complaints in that aspect. I'm so happy we went in a larger group which meant we get to order more varieties to share. Since my last visit at the other location, I was definitely excited to try more dishes. We ordered a bunch of different meat skewers (not all are shown as I was too busy eating), okra again, edamame, cheese corn, oysters, and clams. The clams were really tasty, so we had to get another order for the table. It was a fun time and our bellies were full. I was happy to return with a larger group of course, and I recommend coming here with your friends so you can eat all the things! read more

This is my first time I ever been to Chat Bar. I know since this is their third location and the other 2 in Markham and Scarborough, how come I never been to any yet??? Chat Bar is great to come with friends not alone. I have been waiting to visit with someone that enjoys spices and meat sticks. I am so glad that finally some one asked me if I want to have a gathering here! I could not miss the opportunity. The selection here is great. I like all the meat option. I got to try intestines, heart arteries and some others I never would have if not because my friends wanted to order. Seafood: Garlic Clams was so garlicky (a little oily) and I love the squid. Vegetables: Chives and Mushrooms can be so yummy as well. Warning: Almost everything has a strong seasoning of cumin. So if cumin is not your thing, then you might not enjoy the food here as much. There is a dive bar vibe with all the darker wood furnishing, dim lighting and music pumping in the background. There are also a second floor with extra seating. Service was excellent. The staff checked on us regularly. They still waiting for their License for Alcohol during my visit. It would have been perfect if we can have a pitcher of beer to wash down all the food. read more

When we first walked in, the atmosphere and design of the place was very unique and different than many other restaurants I have been to, and I personally loved the rope lightbulb aesthetic. As for the BBQ, there were a wide variety of options to choose from and included a beef tripe soup with 5 skewers you can include in the soup. Sadly, there's only a selected number of options to choose from to add to the beef tripe soup, which doesn't include much of the meat choices. We had decided to get the beef tripe soup, which came in a huge pot that was unexpected but was pretty flavorful with the skewers we got! Also, the beef tripe soup doesn't actually come with tripe, which is kind of unfortunate. Aside from that, we also got the Lamb and Pork Belly skewers which were fantastic! The Chicken Wing skewers were kind of dry and could have had more flavorful, but overall I would definitely come back to this place for more Chinese skewers! read more

Came to Chat Bar with a party of 10 on a Monday night around 6pm. We decided on the spot last minute so we had no reservation, but they were able to accommodate us in the upstairs space. We were the only people upstairs but by the time we were leaving the rest of the upstairs was also full. What we ordered: - Lamb skewers - Beef skewers - Grilled sausage skewers - Beef short ribs skewers - Pork belly skewers - Grilled mackerel skewers - Grilled Squid - Corn Cheese - Spicy beef tripe pot with: - Beef tripe - Lotus root - Enoki mushroom - Cuttlefish balls - Yam noodles - Braised pork on rice - Kimchi fried rice - Grape Suntory My Favs: - The lamb skewers were the most flavorful of the meats for me - The grilled sausages had a hint of sweetness to them that was nice - The rice dishes were a good side to all the meat - Corn cheese was nice and cheesy Final Thoughts: Fun experience having a mountain of skewers to feast on, but the seasoning had everything tasting kind of the same after a while. The skewers also get quite salty and oily after a while so the rice dishes were a nice way to break up the meal. Service was a tad slow with our party having to ask for napkins and utensils multiple times. The seasoning wasn't to my personal taste and I think you can get better value for the price elsewhere, but still a good place to grab a meal with friends and I'd come back. read more

Summary: Hip and modern place for skewered meats. Heavy on the cumin and salt. We came here as a group of 12+ for a friend's bday party. Located on yonge, lots of parking in the small streets after 6pm in the area. Service: Really good for an asian place. I feel like they were pretty attentive to us and met our requests quickly. 5/5. Food: Lamb and beef skewers were fantastic - very tender. Pork belly skewer was great. Bbq ribs were juicy and tender. All 5/5 if you like cumin flavor. If you don't, you may be disappointed by the monotonous flavors but all the meats are cooked well. Chicken gizzard was good but I felt was perhaps a bit small and overcooked? The tendon and bean curd cold dish was a different - the tendon appears to be sliced up thinly and mixed in. Initially, the dish didn't have much tendon so it was sent back to be re-made. I'd say pass on this dish. The tripe cold dish was quite spicy but really good. Would definitely order again! The sausage skewer is just longanisa - has a nice sweetness to it which is nice. The korean rice rolls were an item of contention within our group with the Koreans having severe disdain for it while the non Koreans feeling it was fine. The braised pork rice dish was great! Tender pork, crunchy sweet daikon and kimchi on a bed of rice. The pork intestine with peppers was also really interesting - definitely worth trying if you like internal meats. Price: I'd say this is a moderately price place, not an every day thing but great for occasional weekend outing. read more

Good place for skewers. Relatively decent price for skewers and the amount I usually go for the Markham or scarb location but this time my friend took me here. So, heres a review for this specific location. The skewers came out pretty fast but do keep in mind we came on a Thursday night. There wasn't a lot of tables , but there was a lot of staff. So we would be approached many times during our time there to either; take stuff away or standing nearby to see if we were ready to order / order more. It a little uncomfortable as me and my friend was trying to have a decent convo without being interrupted. Skewers came out good and cooked well. We had sausages, pork belly, beef, chicken wings, cheese corn. All were flavourful and marinated very well! I would prob stick to my normal locations but this location was nice to see! read more

Came here on a Saturday night to catch up with my girlfriends.. luckily there was only one group ahead of us and we waited about 15 minutes before being seated None of us had been here before so we took a little extra time to really review the menu.. there was so many choices to choose from from different proteins, appetizers, seafood and vegetables! We ordered a bunch of different skewers and vegetables to offset the meat and it did not disappoint. We got a little complimentary plate of broccoli which was blanched nicely with spices.. everything came quite quickly!! Service was honestly one of the best I have had in awhile.. the follow up is amazing.. the intro, the patience to explain everything.. the honesty in explaining things off the menu to us.. they made sure to check everything off our list and verbally verify it with us.. the servers literally made sure we never ran out of water.. they informed us of every item as it arrived... Honestly im obsessed with the food, ambience and service.. I could have stayed their all night! My top recommendations: Cheese Corn Rice cake skewers Lotus root Baked clams Chicken skin I loved everything.. minus being under whelmed by the sliced potatoes my friendly accidentally ordered but would highly recommend this place! read more

Great little chinese skewer and tapas place. Staff were friendly and food was delicious. Definitely enjoyed the lamb, squid, and chicken skewers. They had alcoholic drink options but only in bottle, as nothing was on tap. That was fine for us since they had a good selection of Asia imported beers. Went to Chat Bar as it was a recommendation during a trip to Toronto last weekend. It was such a cute place with skewers galore. We ordered the lamb, beef short ribs, shrimp, beef and chicken skin. Everything came out cooked already, and it was all kept warm by the heated slabs they provide each table. That was pretty cool. We also ordered the charcoal grilled scallops and charcoal grilled oysters. I didn't try the oysters, but the whole table said they liked them. The grilled scallops were tasty. They were topped off with some vermicelli noodles and some kind of sauce that made it pretty flavorful. This place had a pretty chill atmosphere suitable for just kicking back, relaxing and enjoying a drink (they just had beer) and some good food. I've known chat bar since their original location in Main St. Unionville so I was excited to try the new one in North York. This ones definitely a lot bigger as they have 2 floors, plus I feel it's generally busier as well. Just a heads up is that there is no free parking so you'd have to pay for parking. When we came, it was busy but luckily we didn't have to wait long since it was for a table of 2. The upstairs have more private booths and rooms for bigger groups which is nice. The only thing I'd say is that if you're planning to come take Photos, you should bring a light as the space upstairs is dimmer than downstairs. Their menu offers an expansive selection to skewers and cooked dishes, so definitely something for every palette. For some food items, you can choose and adjust your spice level. After taking your order, they would light up the candles on the mini stone table where it'll keep the skewers warm. The food came fairly quickly after ordering you don't have to worry about waiting. My personal favorite is their lamb skewer because it's so chewy and flavorful. Overall, all their skewers and dishes are fairly seasoned so it's very tasty! I recommend coming to any chat bar if you're looking for a quick snack, or hang out with friends! read more

Atmosphere & Service: Chat bar stood out from the other Chinatown restaurants. Dimly lit and wood paneled, it exuded Gen Z hipster rather than mom-and-pop shop vibes. After taking nearly a century to buy a streetcar pass, we were hungry and ready to settle down. We were promptly seated in the cushioned, Japanese-style seating room, the first time I've ever experienced eating without shoes on. Our servers lit two candles under a stone warming plate and presented us with a paper menu and a pen for ordering. Our server was new and inexperienced, but clearly devoted to getting things right. The team of staff was also clearly devoted to top tier service: they all greeted every customer when they walked in and as they were leaving. Food: Now for the good stuff. We ordered lamb skewers, pork belly skewers, oxtail soup, eggplant, and Chinese buns. One thing to note: chat bar is essentially Chinese food tapas, as even the oxtail soul came in a relatively small bowl. The lamb skewers were tougher than the meat I had at Moguoyuan Hand Pulled Noodles (on Dundas), but well seasoned. The pork belly was more flavorful and paired perfectly with the seasoned Chinese buns. The buns were pillowy and soft but toasted to perfection to add a nice crunch. We ordered both the sweet and salty buns, and while both were delicious, I'd recommend the salty buns for more flavor dimensions (I think they use the same seasoning on it as for the lamb skewers). My favorite dish of the night was the eggplant, which was seared and spiced to perfection. It was tender, gushing with juice, and beautifully presented. Think ultimate barbecued eggplant inspired by more traditional stir-fried eggplant (红烧茄子). Overall a great place to catch up with friends (I noticed it was very popular among teens and young adults), and quite a different vibe from what you'd usually find in a Chinatown establishments. NOTE: They only take debit cards or cash, so if you're an American, make sure you get some Canadian bills before coming here (otherwise, you'd lose money on the 1:1 exchange rate restaurants use for USD). read more

Chat Bar is the latest in a growing number of chinese bbq skewer spots in the area. Went here for lunch and got: - Chicken Wings with Honey Sauce: Great and strong flavour, as the sweet honey balanced the hot wings - Beef Short Ribs: Tender ribs, good smoky flavour - Charcoal Grilled Oyster: Standard flavour, good portion size, though a tad pricey - Squid Tentacles: A bit disapponting as it was a tad rubbery - Cheese Sweet Potato: I loved it (super cheesy, good mash of the sweet potato), my wife thought it was meh - Bread: I liked the grill on it but my wife thought it was a bit burned - Pineapple: A tad too soft and not as grilled as I would have liked Service was friendly and efficient. The place was clean, though a bit cramped (first floor). Overall, Chat Bar is good addition to the neighbourhood. read more

Lately I've been wanting to eat Chinese BBQ skewers. When I found out that Chat Bar was opening a new location in North York, I knew I had to visit. When I went, it was only their soft opening (Cash Only). The restaurant interior was much bigger than what I expected. They have two floors which allows for greater dining space. When you're at Chat Bar, you must order the skewers. I ordered (+ rating): - Lamb (4/5) - Marbled Pork (2/5) - Chicken Cartilage (5/5) - Chicken Wings with Honey Sauce (4/5) - Gluten (4.5/5) The lamb skewers were nicely seasoned while the marbled pork just tasted very salty and dry. I highly recommend the chicken skewers. For both the cartilage and wings, seasoning was on point, giving it a nice sweet and savoury flavour. The gluten was very nice and chewy, and covered in a sweet and salty sauce. We also ordered the Charcoal Grilled Scallops, Cheese Corn, and Baked Clam with Garlic. The scallops were topped with bean thread noodle, herbs, and a savoury garlic sauce. It is not too salty and very delicious. Although the clams were super tiny, I loved the garlic sauce that came with it. The cheese corn was my favourite. It was creamy and sweet. The service here was phenomenal. The staff always asked us if we needed anything and food was brought out pretty fast. read more

Went in around 7-8pm yesterday and the place was packed. We waited for a good half an hour before getting a seat. The food was great. I really really liked the corn cheese, the buttery taste of the corn with melting cheese on top was amazing. My friend was still scrapping the little pan even after we finished it. The skewers were seasoned perfectly. Since our friends weren't the biggest spice eaters, we went with little spice. The spice level was well controlled so it was tolerable but also gave a little bit of kick. The skewers also had a lot of cumin and other seasonings but weren't overly salty. We ordered lamb, beef, tendons, pork, so many others the entire table was filled - the bill rounded up to around $50+ per person, but we did have around 3 boxes of leftover take out which explains the price. (The smell of the skewers was so good we forgot to take pictures haha) read more

Been to this restaurant a few times in the past but first time at this location. At first sight place looks small and seats limited but then apparently there's an entire 2nd floor that seats more. If you like spicy (mainly cumin) skewers then this is a place is for you. Menu has huge selection of various meat/veggie/cartilage/intestines skewers and seafood options including oysters and clams. I enjoy this cause I really love the taste of cumin spices. Portions and small but shareable and skewers normally come with a few to share as well. Great tasting place but don't expect overfilling amounts in your tummy. As usual lamb is my favorite but other skewers like pork and chicken was very tasty. The clams were surprising good with tons of garlic flavor. Mushroom and Cabbage was tasty as well. If you enjoy bbq skewers this is a definitely a good place to try. Unfortunately the only downside with our visit was that they were still in the process obtaining their alcohol license but that will come soon. read more

This place was alright when it comes to skewers and mini dishes. We ordered several types of skewers but nothing really stood out. Great service and great food! I heard about their grand opening on Instagram and lined up for a free skewer set (included lamb skewers and a grilled oyster) and was served complimentary hot tea while waiting in line for the promo and seated shortly after. For skewers, we went with lamb, beef, short ribs and pork belly. Everything was perfectly seasoned and not too salty. Also pictured is the braised pork on rice, and shrimp and egg (seasonal special). I would recommend the grilled oysters that came with the grand opening set, and the pork belly skewers as those were my fav. Overall the location is very spacious, has 2 floors with a nice rustic vibe and a cool "wing" wall where you can take some pictures. Plus the service was phenomenal -- I would definitely recommend this place and come again. read more
