Came here with my family and didn't have to wait that long for a seat. The seating were kinda cute with mini hut seatings for groups. There's plenty of seats as there's an upper level too. One complaint I have about this restaurant is that the lighting is so dark that I can barely see the menu or the food I'm eating. When we first walked in, the atmosphere and design of the place was very unique and different than many other restaurants I have been to, and I personally loved the rope lightbulb aesthetic. As for the BBQ, there were a wide variety of options to choose from and included a beef tripe soup with 5 skewers you can include in the soup. This ones definitely a lot bigger as they have 2 floors, plus I feel it's generally busier as well. Just a heads up is that there is no free parking so you'd have to pay for parking. When we came, it was busy but luckily we didn't have to wait long since it was for a table of 2. The upstairs have more private booths and rooms for bigger groups which is nice. The only thing I'd say is that if you're planning to come take Photos, you should bring a light as the space upstairs is dimmer than downstairs. Their menu offers an expansive selection to skewers and cooked dishes, so definitely something for every palette. For some food items, you can choose and adjust your spice level. After taking your order, they would light up the candles on the mini stone table where it'll keep the skewers warm. The food came fairly quickly after ordering you don't have to worry about waiting. Atmosphere & Service: Chat bar stood out from the other Chinatown restaurants. Dimly lit and wood paneled, it exuded Gen Z hipster rather than mom-and-pop shop vibes. After taking nearly a century to buy a streetcar pass, we were hungry and ready to settle down. We were promptly seated in the cushioned, Japanese-style seating room, the first time I've ever experienced eating without shoes on. Our servers lit two candles under a stone warming plate and presented us with a paper menu and a pen for ordering. Our server was new and inexperienced, but clearly devoted to getting things right. The team of staff was also clearly devoted to top tier service: they all greeted every customer when they walked in and as they were leaving. Food: Now for the good stuff. We ordered lamb skewers, pork belly skewers, oxtail soup, eggplant, and Chinese buns. One thing to note: chat bar is essentially Chinese food tapas, as even the oxtail soul came in a relatively small bowl. The lamb skewers were tougher than the meat I had at Moguoyuan Hand Pulled Noodles (on Dundas), but well seasoned. The pork belly was more flavorful and paired perfectly with the seasoned Chinese buns. The buns were pillowy and soft but toasted to perfection to add a nice crunch. We ordered both the sweet and salty buns, and while both were delicious, I'd recommend the salty buns for more flavor dimensions (I think they use the same seasoning on it as for the lamb skewers). My favorite dish of the night was the eggplant, which was seared and spiced to perfection. It was tender, gushing with juice, and beautifully presented. Think ultimate barbecued eggplant inspired by more traditional stir-fried eggplant (红烧茄子). Overall a great place to catch up with friends (I noticed it was very popular among teens and young adults), and quite a different vibe from what you'd usually find in a Chinatown establishments. Been to this restaurant a few times in the past but first time at this location. At first sight place looks small and seats limited but then apparently there's an entire 2nd floor that seats more. If you like spicy (mainly cumin) skewers then this is a place is for you. Menu has huge selection of various meat/veggie/cartilage/intestines skewers and seafood options including oysters and clams. I enjoy this cause I really love the taste of cumin spices. Portions and small but shareable and skewers normally come with a few to share as well. Great tasting place but don't expect overfilling amounts in your tummy. As usual lamb is my favorite but other skewers like pork and chicken was very tasty. The clams were surprising good with tons of garlic flavor. Mushroom and Cabbage was tasty as well. If you enjoy bbq skewers this is a definitely a good place to try.
