Skewers

Venue: 4/5 Street Grill is tucked into a corner spot in the no frills plaza near Seneca (beside the Service Ontario), so it's pretty easy to find and convenient if you're in the area. Since it's open late, it draws a lot of international students and late-night crowds, which is great for the energy, but it can definitely get noisy at peak hours. That said, there's plenty of space and it works really well for larger groups. Service: 5/5 Service was excellent. The staff were friendly, informative, and actually helpful when it came to explaining menu items and specials. Even when it got busy, they kept things moving and made sure the tables were cleared. They also speak Cantonese and Mandarin. Menu is in both Chinese and English. Food: 4/5 Portions are generous, and they've got solid beer and drink options to offer. The late-night specials on certain meats are a nice bonus, especially if you're coming in after usual dinner hours. Overall, great experience and a reliable late-night option uptown (last call 1h before close). You can also choose spice level for some of the skewer options and sharing is encouraged!

A variety of Northern Chinese-style skewers

Street Grill North York is BUZZIN'!! Now we know why they are so popular. The food is fantastic, the staff are all very friendly and accommodating and the service is fast. We tried a variety of Northern Chinese-style skewers, Crispy Shrimp with Mango Glaze, Sweet Potato & Cheese and Tomato & Beef Brisket Stew. Everything was flavour-packed and in generous portion. I must say that this is our new favourite skewers spot! They are definitely worth a visit. The restaurant is spacious and has a lively atmosphere. They also have a designated spot for different drinks which we find so cool. They are located in a plaza and have plenty of parking spaces.

The food was definitely unique and had some great flavour, but some of the food items also missed its mark. As for how quickly servers responded, it was decent. The overall atmosphere can get quite loud, especially with birthdays being announced with a lot of cheering and a song!

Be prepared for a bit of a wait when you come here. Even with a reservation, we had to wait an extra 30+ minutes. It's quite noisy and popular here. Food was quite oily here so just be prepared for that. We tried a few dishes and I'll go into detail below. I love that we can ask for the spice mix on the side to dip the meat into. Here's the breakdown with skewers first and side dishes last: Teriyaki beef skewers 5/5 - lovely and sweet! Very meaty and loved the sweet spices on top. Reminds me of those sweet little taiwanese sausages. Lamb Skewers 3/5 - really small pieces of lamb and more fat than meat. Didn't have a strong lamb flavour, but the spices were nice. Beef chuck 4/5 - meaty and well seasoned. Nothing special Pork belly (I won't rate this cause personally, I can't handle how fat it is) - tasted fine but I will say these were very tiny pieces Pork sichuan 2/5 - not really much in the spice department and meat was very small again Cold noodles with braised beef 10/5 - I LOVED THIS! Super chewy noodles in a refreshing, vinegar-y light and cold broth. This was so yummy I could order this over and over. I would come here to literally eat this and I was sad we had to share it haha! Fried dough with cabbage 5/5 - this tasted like shanghai fried noodles to me, but with a chewier texture. It was lovely, but it is very oily. Garlic eggplant 4/5 - SUPER oily but tastes yummy. With a MOUNTAIN of garlic on it, you may feel things later that night haha. But it was delish. I wouldn't say I tasted anything all that special and it was a very small eggplant for the price. Over all the value was okay. I think they could provide more meat and less fat pieces and give you more to eat on each skewer. Feels a bit skimped out on. The side dishes were bang on. I would say that if I did want to come back, I'd order a side or noodle to eat as a main and skewer maybe as a snack. I think most people come to eat mainly skewers and everything else as a side. Would definitely be open to coming back if I don't need to wait as long.

Not only was the food delicious, the ambiance was on point and the service was great!

Came here for a late night dinner. We got here about 9:20 pm on a weeknight but didn't get seated until about 9:45 pm. We ordered some skewers of cabbage and beef tongue and the stir fried clams and eggplant. We were also able to order the 10 pm special which was the beer pitcher and the beef skewers. Good price. Food tastes good but too much cumin spice in a night. You can't eat too much of this. The clams were good and the eggplant was good and the cabbage was good. The beef skewers and the beef tongue skewers were ok. Service was ok- what you would expect at a late night place.

Great skewers, great food, great vibes. Crazy wait though. You've got to check this place out. There's nothing super unique about the menu but everything is just executed really well. Will be back.

Sweet n sour pork

Located in a stripped mall wasn't expecting that parking would be that full and the place is packed with people. Came by around 6:30 pm but was not able to get a table till 8:15 pm been waiting for almost 2 hrs because the host is jumping the lines. He noticed that I knew what was happening so he trietto bribe us with drinks on the house. Food is good nothing from the ordinary tasty smokey and not too oily. I find the food very pricey you can judge by the photos I have added for 4 skewers it's approx $12. The sweet n sour pork is good but with paper thin meat. It's a drinking hole or a dating place not recommended for a quiet family dinner.

Unbeatable value and taste for a Chinese skewer place in the GTA. This is as close to $1 a skewer you'll get, and for decently sized meaty skewers as well. It's tucked away in a nondescript plaza in the Finch and Don Mills area, but once you walk in you're transported to a different place. The renovations are very hip and there was a busy vibe despite my visit being on a Monday evening. We went a bit crazy with the order, since everything was single digit prices except the veggies. For example, the lamb skewers were $6.99 for 4 - a great deal, and super delicious. I'd definitely recommend the cabbage (everyone was ordering it) and eggplant for side dishes. We spent $45 each inclusive of tax and tip, which is great considering the amount of food and drink that we ordered. Definitely could scale back next time. They have a decently generous cash discount.

One of my top-listed skewer restaurants in Toronto! The interior design is stunning and full of character, every detail feels thoughtful and beautifully designed. From the warm wooden counter to the soft, classic Chinese-style lighting, the atmosphere is stylish and full of good vibes. The skewers were fantastic, perfectly grilled with that delicious smoky aroma and juicy flavor, plus the portions are generous. They also offer some really unique specialty drinks! I ordered a passion fruit special, and it was not only super refreshing but also beautifully presented, such a lovely surprise and perfectly matched with the skewers. The service was excellent, and the staff were all friendly and attentive, especially the male manager, who was incredibly polite, welcoming, and professional. His warm attitude truly made the whole experience even more enjoyable. On top of that, the prices are very reasonable for the quality and atmosphere you get. Great spot hanging out with friends and family, this place is a true hidden gem. Definitely coming back again soon!

Fantastic skewer bbq! Busy place with a long wait time even though they have two floors for seating. The ribeye beef tendon was seasoned really nicely. The juicy chicken pieces were crispy, tasty, meaty and definitely juicy! Their lamb shoulder was slightly crunchy but meaty. All their skewers were seasoned well and you can ask for different spicy levels. Their stews are huge and a good portion size! They bring out each item slowly. Their side dish foil packets are also good portion sized with heavy garlic flavors. There are so many items on the menu, I would go back with a larger group to try more items! Ps they have birthday specials!

I've been here four times now, and it's definitely one of my go-to BBQ places! While the food is always great, the only downside is the long wait time since they don't take reservations unless you're with a large group. Tip: arrive early to avoid the rush! Food Highlights & Must-Try Dishes: Cold Noodles - Great texture and super refreshing; helps balance out the salt and spice. Spicy Clams - Full of flavor and a generous portion for the price. Cabbage - Simple, well-seasoned, and surprisingly tasty. Shrimp Skewers - Always a crowd favorite. Crispy Buns - Crunchy, flavorful, and definitely a must-try. Drinks - We had two small cocktails and a large party drink. The alcohol isn't too strong--tastes more like iced tea, which makes them really easy to enjoy. The skewers are heavily seasoned, so if you're sensitive to salt, ask for less seasoning. If you don't eat spicy, make sure to let them know in advance. Add cold sides or drinks to help balance out the bold flavors. Also, the corn Cheese with Candied Sprinkles & Raisins was... interesting (I didn't like it). The mix of sweet and savory didn't work for me. If you're curious, eat it hot it becomes chewy and overly sweet once it cools down. Not bad overall! Give it try!

. we often come here after work for late dinners with everyone (around 11-1:30am) . always super welcoming and ready to serve our normally big tables . food comes out fast and servers are very accommodating . my table is usually loud so appreciate the nice open environment . the interior is really prettty i especially like the little second floor for more privacy etc . food is okay mostly on the spicer side (i cant handle spicy) so im always here to test my taste buds . if my coworkers always come back then this place got to mean something right . also their cocktails are yum! on the juicier side dont even taste the alch :)

For appetizers- corn is incredibly creamy & deep fried chicken is so crunchy. Definitely try their house drinks, I tried the one with coconut and I loved how it complemented the spicy noodles. Another must try is their cucumber peanut salad & all these options are pretty affordable(appetizers under 5$) The portion size is great, I could hardly finish a plate of noodles. Another must try is their fried milk. Honestly the place looks amazing for dates too, plus they have free underground customer parking!!

Cantonese food is my favorite cuisine and of all the restaurants I visited in Toronto this year,…read morethis was the most memorable. I wanted to try Peking Duck and got clued into J&Y as one of the best options to try which did not disappoint. The Peking Duck was so tender, so flavorful and so wonderfully succulent. It was perfectly prepared and sliced with the fat rendered and thinly sliced. The wraps were not the monstrous steamed buns but traditional translucent wraps which are super thin, soft and pliable. Scallions, cucumber, hoisin sauce completed each wrap which highlighted the duck. Definitely the best traditional Peking Duck preparation I've had in a very very long time. The remains of the duck were used for make a duck fried rice and duck soup, again both were amazing. It takes a certain skill to make fried rice cleanly without an excessive oily coating on each grain of rice. This was one of the best fried rices I've ever had! No gratuitous mushy frozen peas needlessly added either. Well seasoned fried pork ribs and veggies completed the courses I had, everything was truly wonderful and I hope to revisit again.

Btw the red bean soup was so seriously diluted! Overall poor service and too much upselling by restaurant made for a bad experience

I forgot to take pics, but their portions are very generous for the price. Their noodles are hand pulled and you can really tell the difference in the quality. It's more bouncy and filling as they have more substance to them. Their service was very attentive and quick, and while the space of the restaurant is fairly small, there was no wait for 2 of us at 6:30 on a Saturday. Coming with a bigger group may be tougher considering the space. My total bill came to just under $26 after tax and tip, which is very reasonable for the amount and quality of food I got. The main portion of the dish is super tender braised pork knuckle (not as weird as it may sound) on a bed of white rice glazed with a house Chinese BBQ sauce. It comes with sides of pickled "sour" veggies (酸菜), cabbage, tofu, and hard boiled egg. The pork knuckle almost melts in your mouth and is so decadent with the BBQ sauce. The sides give nice textural contrast and palette contrast. VALUE (5/5) The pork knuckle rice altogether is $10 plus tax and leaves you full and fulfilled. Great portions and is balanced with good proportion of meat, rice, and veggies. They only take debit or cash.
