Are there better Chinese restaurants in the area, yes but this place is reasonably good for what it is. We have ordered both the dinner for one (if we don't want leftovers) and main menu. Dynamite food, quick delivery, quality ingredients, and all-around pretty great 'Canadianized' Chinese food. Minus 1 star for the prices, which are about 20% higher than many places, but that is largely made up for by really good quality, and some pretty solid daily specials, like the Wednesday beef and broccoli pictured below. I admit I love their "spicy szechuan beef rolls", which aren't all that spicy, nor szechuan, nor a healthy choice, but are really delicious spring rolls filled with what tastes like a real deal Philly cheese steak filling, which tastes very beefy and cheesy, with just a hint of spice. (Note: NOT like a Canadian style Philly, which is typically just boring roast beef loaded with green peppers, LOL). Also addictive, & absurdly overpriced are the appetizers they call "deep fried Cream Cheese & Crab wontons", which is their take on traditional American crab rangoons. Interestingly sweet, with nearly undetectable artificial crab meat inside, and folded to yield the least possible filling, yet absolutely delicious and addictive and another decadent must-have on all my delivery orders. Other recommended items from recent orders include tasty Singapore noodles, shown here with the shrimp and char siu pork hiding under the noodles, lunch special General Tao chicken served on steamed rice, and of course their delicious specials of the day, Wednesday's Beef with Broccoli, and the Saturday special Crispy Ginger Beef, which was devoured before that picture could be taken. All in all, a really solid local takeout and delivery joint that only suffers from prices that are a higher than they should be, but delivers solid, tasty, Canadian style Chinese food. read more

I called the restaurant several times and was told that they would call me back to update me - however this did not happen. I had to call the restaurant to get "feedback"...there was none. On my 2nd call back to the restaurant, the female attendant again could not update me on where my order or driver was. My order was scheduled for 6.55 pm, however it arrived extremely late (7.30 pm) and it was stone cold & bland! I tried to call the restaurant to inform them that my arrived cold but again I was told that I would get a call back...again I did not hear from them! Updated Review September 2018: I really can't stand places that advertise falsely. They claim you get a free order of wings when you order $40+, but then they called us to say that the wings were not in fact included. You don't need to offer free stuff, but if you do? Stick to it. Spring China House has recently opened in the location that used to be Hong Yu, which if you had the pleasure of trying or want to read the reviews you will disocver it was pretty awful! I was excited to see a another Chinese restaurant open up and take it's place. From searching on Yelp I noticed that Spring China House already has a location on Eglington with only two stars... I was still willing to give it a try! First off, the prices are a little higher then your average Canadian Chinese food but I needed to know if it was better then Hong Yu. I would have to say Yes! The dinner for two was great, there are two options one with beef and one with chicken. We picked the chicken option which comes with chicken wings, sweet and sour chicken, chicken chow mein, chicken fried rice and two egg rolls. The only thing I would change is the sweet and sour sauce. They do not give you alot, only half a container full. Overall the food was good, I am happy to have a simple Chinese restaurant open up close by. read more

This was a cute and comfortable restaurant with the option of dine-in and takeout. The setting included 3 square tables and a large comfortable couch for dine in customers. I was greeted very nicely by the manager when I arrived, and for the food prep - it was very fast. The food itself was very delicious! The sweet and sour sauce went well with all the fried components - from cheese wontons to spring rolls and chicken balls! (They're must haves if you go!) The food was okay, nothing too spectacular. The spare ribs come breaded, which was a little disappointing but it was ok. The portion Ia good. This small eatery is located near Willowdale and Sheppard, and today was the second time I got take out from there. There are two tables inside so take-out, pick-up and delivery is mainly what you can order. No complaints with that. I think the last time I got a Mushroom Fried Rice and one of the fried noodle dishes and maybe the spring roll. Today I got the Spicy Szechuan Beef Roll appetizer, Cantonese Lo Mein, Ma Po Tofu. Had the Lo Mein and Ma Po Tofu earlier. Both taste good together. Will try the beef rolls later. The flavor is agreeable and the yeah the ingredients taste fresh. The fried rice was not as greasy as other Chinese restaurant, which was to my liking. Portion size was slightly bigger than normal for the price. However it lack much taste. I will never order from this place again. The food is not bad, nothing spectacular but decent Chinese food. Here's the problem...the first time I ordered for pick up, it was indicated you get 10% off for paying cash.... so I stopped by the bank machine, got the cash, and was told on pick up...oh, it doesn't apply because you ordered Dinner for 6... all the "dinners for #" are already specially priced so no further discount.... so, if you do read the fine print, they exclude it, but very hidden. So yesterday, I ordered $155 worth of food for delivery. I chose "cash" option and went to the bank machine to have enough cash for the guy when he arrived. I calculated it should be then $140. When he arrived, he tells me no, you ordered the free pop... I'm like yeah, I was given the choice to use a promo code to order a free box of overly greasy chicken wings, or pop.... nowhere did it say I was giving away my 10% cash discount if I did... but apparently, they just like to scam you like this. Had I known, my 10% cash discount on $155 was almost $16... obviously I would have taken that instead of 6 cans of pop I could buy at Metro for $2.99. This was able to feed two people. The food was exactly what I was craving for - greasy (in a good way), filling and addictive flavouring. Comfort food at its best. Just ok Canadian Chinese food. Ordered a #201 for one with an extra egg roll for my first order. This order came with all of 3 sweet and sour chicken balls, a mound of chicken fried rice and beef + veggies. Firstly, 3 chicken balls is not ok- it's the best part! They were delicious though - definitely the best part of the meal. The egg rolls are stuffed with bean sprouts- so they are impossible to bite through without taking all of the (mediocre) filling out all at once. I definitely won't be back. read more

I ordered from this place on UberEats and I don't know if it's because restaurants don't put the same amount of effort into takeout orders as in house orders or what, but the food was honestly disappointing especially for the prices they charge. The only good thing in our order that I enjoyed was the 'Kung Fu Soup' everything else was either disgusting/not tasty or was just prepared poorly. We ordered the szechuan chicken which was already a poor experience because somebody put "Kung Pao" chicken instead in our order, the dish has peanuts in it & if somebody was allergic that wouldn't be a fun experience for them. The Kung Pao chicken itself tasted very mediocre, there was shrimp in it for some reason & there wasn't any flavor to it at all. The sauce it was in had no flavor whatsoever. Then we got two orders of the soup which was the only dish we enjoyed and tasted great, the kick from the spices was great. I ordered the sweet & sour breaded shrimp, the portion size I admit was very generous so I don't have a problem with the price for it because you get a bang for your buck with the amount of shrimp they give you. The food itself wasn't anything special & was just "meh". I also ordered FRIED dumplings & was appalled when I picked one up and it was soggy? Fried dumplings are supposed to be crispy around the edges & a nice golden brown, I've ordered them many times at other restaurants & I've never had one presented to me soggy. And they didn't come with a sauce? Lastly we decided to try the crab meat & cheese wontons and it was absolutely disgusting. I'm sorry but I didn't taste any crab in it all, it was very soggy & it just tasted like it was filled with cream cheese and something gross that had the taste of feet in it. It was absolutely rank. I couldn't even swallow it because the taste was so off putting, it tasted like somebody's feet were in my mouth. Honestly the whole experience was just disappointing & fell somewhat flat. I paid $80 for only one small bowl of soup that I thoroughly enjoyed while everything else just fell flat. Pretty disappointed when they charge some pretty high prices for some of the dishes & then the dish just ends up being disappointing. I had high hopes because people gave this place a really good rating. Not sure what the deal was, maybe restaurants just can't be bothered with people that order take out. I didn't realize that I was entitled to complementary cans of soda, and was pleased that an employee took the time to call me, to ask what kind I would like. The delivery driver was extremely polite. Horrible Horrible food. Ordered chicken fried rice, spare ribs, general tso chicken, sweet and sour pork. Both sweet and sour pork and and general tso chicken were some deep fried "meat" with a dollop of the same sickly sauce spooned into the middle ( I think its that red jelly you dip chicken balls into but... off). Every, sorry the spare ribs I tested, had shattered bones and tasted so dry that leathery would be an apt adjective. The chicken fried rice was okay. Anyways stay very very away. read more
